    Hector sealed his fate when he told Nacho "I don't trust him." He essentially told Nacho to his face that he was going to kill his father. There is no way Nacho (or anyone else) wouldn't act on that threat.

      That's why their survival of the fittest, fear, and threat can only go so far till people had enough to overcome their fear to act logically? 🤔

      Who can blame Nacho for trying to protect his father. Sure, Gus would have had to move on Hector eventually but that probably wouldn't have been soon enough to save Nacho's Dad. The Salamancas we mostly see aren't exactly the chillest people.

      So great as Hector Salamanca that even Jonathan Banks himself said on one of those television interviews that Margolis was so intimidating in character that it informed how Banks played Mike & having to act even less impressed.
      And, of course, very polite & professional out of character as a lot of actors who play great villains often are.

    • @SuperJutah
      @SuperJutah 3 місяці тому +13

      The subtle smile is one of my fav Gus moments!!
      He completely outplayed Hector… He ALLOWED hector to bully him to carry his product over the border..
      Gus and Hector got about the same amount of product however Gus made about 5-10x more money for Eladio (The Ice Cream Scene) Eladio allowed Hector to continue as they were old friends who built this up….
      Gus lied and said he was at capacity (He wasn’t) so now Gus is making Eladio ALL this cash so to give Hector back his share would be to screw himself over for no additional benefit….
      Also if Hector didn’t get a stroke at this moment.. He woul’ve went to war with Eladio!

    Fring's real mission was not wealth or power as ends in themselves but as a means to the end of revenge against Hector -- and Hector sensed it. This is why Fring resuscitated Hector. Fring wanted him to suffer total defeat, not to die. The degree of hatred these two have for one another is intense.

      I’m not sure of that being the case. I think the writing implies that Gus cares more about business than he does about personal stuff. Gus knew he has an in through Hector and it’s better for his profits. Gus was always a very pragmatic character, so I think he resuscitated Hector to make more money. Then again, I haven’t watched this show in a long time so maybe my memory isn’t 100%. Let’s call it a fugue state 😂

    I really like the protrayal of Hector, he likes to act like the town boss, which works with normal people, but when it comes to the cartel and it's members he's treated mostly as a nuisance and only respected for being from the old guard.
    Hector was just an insecure druglord who wanted to regain their old prestige, but, it clearly was just a sad attempt at it, after they all died, nobody cared, in fact everyone was better without them.

    Only Bolsa speaks Spanish naturally.
    Mark Margolis was a good method actor and he almost makes Don Héctor get away with his phonetic pronunciation.
    But Giancarlo Esposito can't speak the language at all. I need to read the subtitles to understand what Gus Fringe says.

    • @angmatalv
      @angmatalv 3 місяці тому +36

      As a native Spanish speaker, one of the few things I dislike about the Breaking Bad universe is the inaccurate Spanish throughout. Gus’ true mobster personality should shine through his Spanish (he’s Chilean after all, and Chileans speak Spanish as their mother tongue), yet when he speaks broken Spanish he loses almost all his might. It’s really a shame because Giancarlo is a formidable actor otherwise.
      Funnily enough, the actors that play The Twins are native Spanish speakers yet they barely have any lines in the franchise.

    Mark Margolis plays an excellent prototype of Don Hector in both Scarface and 1492 Conquest of Paradise
    That being said, publicly bullying people in a fast food joint and his temper tantrums puts one in mind of a lower level capo at best or likecthe character from Godfather 2 who the young Vito takes out - Don Fanucci

    The Hector that talks to Mike seems like a totally different character. He speaks in a fairly pleasant, soft voice, as opposed to his normal dragon voice, and his mannerisms reflect those of a civilian, not a constantly angry drug grandpa.

    There was literally nothing "boss" about Hector Salamanca. He was a perfect foil to Gus's cool, calm and methodical approach and demeanor with his perpetually angry sloppyness and thinking that he is better than the others.

    Come to think of it, maybe the Don really wanted to see Lyle's balls. That is, if he had big enough to stand up to him. Lyle passed, as shown by the approving pat.

    The interesting thing about this show is that there are so many little Easter eggs a various items from all over the country. One I noticed was the Zippo witches from the complete opposite direction open New Mexico. Which leads me to believe Don Hector is way more worldly than he lets on old school Zippo that old men like him rock.
