The best bass solo I've heard in a while. Doesn't loose himself in runs, keeps you listening with irresistible, deeply rhythmic licks. Takes the limelight from Patrick Bartley for once. Great stuff.

1:06 "Shake dat ass!" 1:20 Patrick called for it, audience failed. 1:52 One of the best bass solos of all time! 4:01 Patrick's alto sax solo. 8:00 Emmet's piano solo. 9:02 (Shiny Stockings Shout Chorus) 10:00 Being a pro means being able to get up and play after all these other masters had their turn. Nice Fabien!
As a bass player, I'm totally blown away by Philip's solo. Amazing. I'd like to give a shout out to Emmet and Kyle for very tasty comping behind his solo, which always accentuated and never detracted from it. Bravo!
1:52-1:58 When a jazz virtuoso responds with a head shake and a shout of joy to what you just played (Patrick Bartley's response), you know your solo is killing! Hats off to Phillip Norris! ALL the solos and accompaniment were awesome during the entire tune!
The dynamic changes throughout are crazy. Like they get real loud and exciting and then pull back all quiet and laid back and then just starting going crazy all over again
My goodness that bass solo was calling down angels from heaven 😂 I felt like he got the message that Art Blakey & the Messengers were trying to tell the world.
Love the humor & playfulness EC3+horns put into T42 (Phillip Norris' bass solo is soooooo gooooood!!) Effortless mastery by all 5 on this classic number - Bravo! Patrick's double time high energy Latin/Swing solo is incredible. (Dig the "Shiny Stockings" shout chorus, then a segue into bit of "High Fly" during Fabien's solo, and back into T42.) Kyle is right there, ready to switch from Cha-Cha to exciting fast paced Latin groove into double time swing into medium swing, and Emmet's solos & stride piano always please!
Lately I have enjoyed a lot of Emmet's clips on YT. He is a very talented pianist, bot more important: his personality brings such a lot of friendliness and pure joy that influences every musician he works with. I wish I was good enough to play with him!
Hahahaha, this is SO GREAT. Patrick comes in after that bass solo like "wait, wait, wait--we gotta cool down for a second, too much fire on one stage." And then proceeds to also burn the house down. Killing band. Thanks, guys!
Patrick just kills it on every solo he plays really. I have listened to this so many times. Everyone is of course monsterous in their own right but Patrick is truly one of the greatest saxs to live
What a Band! Impressing for virtuosity and finely fun too. Love the arrangement and the solos. Love the Hi Fly quote on the trumpet solo, Randy Weston would be pleased.
Great playing overall. Patrick great as always but this bassist is a unusually good soloist. Good sense of pitch, rhythm and melodies. Will watch this many more times.
SUPER !! Music and Jazz in general still has a lot of future ahead of it, with these young motivated and talented musicians. Let's hope that a maximum of people and young people also come to it. With these quality videos the right way seems to be found! Bravo to all and thank you Emmet
I do like this altoist, Mr Barclay - his beautiful tone, fluidity and melodic invention seems to be a blend of a whole range of predecessors including Johnny Hodges, Sonny Stitt, Sonny Criss and others. He plays with a magical blend of fire, fluidity, spirit and the pure joy of making music. Wonderfully accompaniment here from all concerned. My thanks from the UK.
Check out emmets sesh with Gilald Hekselman. They played this same standard with an even more killer groove, and the same shake the ass break after the first A. I vote it be written in the real book
That bass solo could end the war
Whos gonna tell him?
All wars!
Yup there’s hope for world peace with this solo
I get it. ❤
My bandleader told me to watch this bass solo when I asked him how he wants me to solo
Bassist is really killing it.
the lick at 1:53. too good
Juilliard mega chad
The best bass solo I've heard in a while. Doesn't loose himself in runs, keeps you listening with irresistible, deeply rhythmic licks. Takes the limelight from Patrick Bartley for once. Great stuff.
This video deserves the After You've Gone treatment... masterful playing all around, but Patrick just dropping another classic!!
맞습니다. 에멧코헨 한국오시면 불가능할것 같은 남북통일도 가능할지도...재즈로 대통합.

rly love when soloists don't just rip runs and runs. build ur solo!
Well yes, but it was more like foreground blueish/sprinkles of greenish/hints of purpleish/ with yes an overall permeating light lime glimmer🤔

@@aerchys4779actually probably not. Synesthesia makes different colors for everyone lmao
Taking the limelight maybe but both are so egregiously amazing that it’s hard to sub-rank another

Like he's no master
Thank you so much bro I just listened to Shiny Stockings and was like where did I hear that before omg
@@balroggambit I liked his solo the most, reminds me of chet baker with some of his phrasing.
I’ve never been a fan of bass solos, but this one makes me finally understand how enjoyable they can be
Patrick is one of the best alto players of our day
Love bassists like this guy! Clear tone and pitch, rhythmically active and intentional, and melodic playing. Bravo! :D
Ain't nobody talkin during that bass solo though!!
As a bass player, I'm totally blown away by Philip's solo. Amazing. I'd like to give a shout out to Emmet and Kyle for very tasty comping behind his solo, which always accentuated and never detracted from it. Bravo!
Emmet is my favorite Jazz piano player alive today
At some points Patrick sounds like a viola! Such a unique sound(:
After reading your comment I noticed how right you are! He sounds so much like a viola it’s crazy
what the hell, if i close my eyes it totally does
Exactly what I came in the comments to write!
everybody pick up your real books and pencils, there's a "shake that ass" missing
It’s there, 1:06
one of the coolest bass solos all time

That trumpet solo keeps me awake during the night. Wow! Bravo
Shiny Stockings!! You're a legend Emmet
The dynamic changes throughout are crazy. Like they get real loud and exciting and then pull back all quiet and laid back and then just starting going crazy all over again
Trumpet solo is low key fire
My goodness that bass solo was calling down angels from heaven 😂 I felt like he got the message that Art Blakey & the Messengers were trying to tell the world.

Man, that opening was elegance and beauty in sound form. Surprised more people aren’t talking about it.
Love the “Shiny Stockings” Tea 🫖
Fabien Mary au sommet de son art avec un son et un lyrisme à la Kenny Dorham. Bravo à tous pour cette musique magnifique.

Such sweetness! Patrick B. was channeling Sidney Bechet for this French audience! Superlative playing all around!!! Tres bien, merci! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I love the cameo of High Fly at 11:11
Can’t get enough of ‘Tea For EC3’ - every time they play this tune they really go off!
The good vibes the swing and the groove were unbelievable. Another jewel for your collection of awesome performances!
Patrick just kills it on every solo he plays really. I have listened to this so many times. Everyone is of course monsterous in their own right but Patrick is truly one of the greatest saxs to live
Amazing rendering of one of my favorite song... great fox trot-cha cha -jazz-swing played by skilled musicians...
Chills.. I cannot believe how impeccable this is, everything was done greatly. ❤️
What a Band! Impressing for virtuosity and finely fun too. Love the arrangement and the solos. Love the Hi Fly quote on the trumpet solo, Randy Weston would be pleased.

The best ‘Tea for Two’ I ever heard!! Love it!
Man that bass solo was otherwordly. Never heard the bass played with such finess before in my life.
very nice, like the trumpet solo a lot
Great performance... with such humour!
Philip Norris kiilin it on the bass!
Un grand moment de jazz avec des supers musiciens
Best "Tea for two" performance ever! Congrats!
Great playing overall. Patrick great as always but this bassist is a unusually good soloist. Good sense of pitch, rhythm and melodies. Will watch this many more times.
Imagine playing a solo so good, it overshadows Patrick Bartley's. Brilliant stuff

Patrick Bartley il miglior sassofonista di oggi.

The alto sax is on fire 🔥 love this
Ι absolutely l;ove the way he plays saxophone
Is no one going to talk about the patented Christian McBride giggle at 2:36. The gig was won at that hahaa Phillip absolutely killed it
Cohen and Bartley are great musicians and band leaders!!!

Wauuuuuu!! Excelentes todos!!
PATRICK BARTLEY YYYYYOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Yeah, bouge tes fesses !!! :)
I loved the bassist's solo which was hilarious and exuberant!
However, I think the drummer even more impressed me.
Wow - Phil Norris
Did Patrick really said "shake that ass" at the beginning or am I tripping ?
Check out emmets sesh with Gilald Hekselman. They played this same standard with an even more killer groove, and the same shake the ass break after the first A. I vote it be written in the real book
2:44 Was philip referencing pat's solo of after you've gone? You guys took that old standard to SPACE
possibly, but that's also just a common jazz rhythm pattern.
