La chanteuse Véronica Swift vient s’associer à cette formation qui aime les exécutions parfaitement maîtrisées. Finally, finally we have a JAZZ singer. Amazing. I hope Ella is listening to this from heaven.
Ella is looking down with pride ☺️
@@JPGtampa shes dead , dont be silly
@@kipperkop Quality comment right there, Brian.
@@JPGtampa damn bro you didn’t have to murder him
who is ella
She is the greatest scatter I've heard, and she's just getting started. She has the vocabulary and harmonic awareness of a top level instrumentalist, plus soulful blues, mad swing and best of all, total authenticity.
When I first heard her scat, I thought I was listening to a horn player. I later discovered she is a trumpeter. So it made sense.
I would put her among an elite category of female jazz singers who scat. Not to compare her to anyone else, but one cannot overlook Ella Fitzgerald. She remains the queen.
😂
🎉
and the face of the bassist when she sings the bassline ^^
504 people obviously have never heard Ella Fitzgerald…sad.
She had the right music education
Both parents are musicians ( pros)
The right enrichment
And ofcourse, she practice the right way
This Swift deserves a legion of her own Swifties. Insane talent.
Scatting Cherokee while Wynton Marsalis stares at you from 2 feet away....difficulty level x100,000,000
For Wynton, of course :) :) :) (Look as he smiles while she scats ) :)
I had to scat impromptu on stage with Wynton Marsalis once, can confirm difficulty level one hundred percent
...and she nails it!
Yep.
@@neekonsaadat2532 wow you're lucky!
Veronica Swift has more bebop language than most horn players, and she's a SINGER. Insanely good
i couldn't agree more
With pitch to match.
Lord Have Mercy!
Absolutely!
She's awesome. Seen her live like 5-6 times. Stellar EVERY time!!! Highly recommended!!!
Veronica makes arrangement beyond terrific!! Her scat vocals duplicate the instruments! I think she is the best scat vocalist since the 1940s.
Annie Ross was stunning too :)
most bold of her to do 'bitter earth' placing herself amongst the pantheon of the greats before her. well done!
for a second i felt like i was in 1930s
The double bass player is the real GOAT here
Thank you George Collier for let me be here!! Amazing music #georgecollier #jazz
Me too!
Same here
same here. This music, wow.
Love how Walter used Wynton’s last phrase as a recurring theme through his first chorus.
Seriously. Love when soloist play off eachother like that!
thats what jazz is!!!!
Yes, brad! The best way to add coherence to a solo - largely forgotten in most jazz improvisation.
I just found out about her this morning, and now I can't stop watching all her UA-cam vids. Absolutely jaw-dropping jazz talent.
Same here.
Same here!
same here!
Rowan Atkinson did an amazing job on the piano!
😂😂😂😂😂
Was thinking the same thing!
Don’t do Dan like that
Dan Nimmer on the piano!
@@michaelbruchas6663 ;-)
one of the best renditions on this tune, everyone absolutely killed it but really loved walters sax solo, so tasteful
The entry to that scat literally took my breath away. SWOON!!!
I get goosebumps 😍
SAME
Took hers too, she had surprisingly good sounding almost artistic pauses between phrases so she could breathe.
The number of times I has to rewind 🎉
When she said "spibiby dap" I felt that
It's like a signature!
6:42
@@cjgreen4331 god bless
It's "speeded it up"
Double bass players don’t get enough credit, basically a second heartbeat of the song after the drums
Incredible bass playing...playing that amount of choruses on that big bass fiddle at that tempo is no joke!
Ans then there was this: 19 y o bass playing woman 'from another planet' as was commented. ua-cam.com/video/bvLheXI21lo/v-deo.html She kept up with Joel Frahm and everyone at about 300/min for 6:30!
@@alanlevin3003 that's extremely impressive as well!
Haha
This is nothing...
@@Zxx459it ain’t nothing
Just came across Veronica Swift for the first time on another channel. New hero unlocked. She’s INCREDIBLE!!!
Holy cow, that vocalist killed it
Yes, Veronica Swift is taking the jazz world by a storm
She’s amazing! I got introduced to her through a song she did called social call
oxygen!
Ive gotten the opportunity to hang out with her at some jazz festivals. She's a gem of a human being!
@@kadegainey5123 yes! that song is so good. Veronica and Benny Bennack III absolutely smashed it. one of my all time favourites now :) 💕
Cherokee and After You've Gone are eternally swinging tunes...I never get tired of either and this rendition KILLS!!! Madame Swift ROCKED an already ROCKED ROOM!!! THEY ALL PLAYED!!!
You can always judge the quality of a solo by the inspirations the following soloist draws from it: she nailed it, and Nimmer took off.
Jazz is just the most wonderful thing isn't it.
Yes
What more do we need? Well, pizza. And whisky.
Idk, have you tried chocolate milk?
absolutely
yes
The gorgeous Véronica Swift! Anita O`Day and Ella in one person.
Ellita O'Datzgerald
Sarah Vaughan?
I prefer jazz singer Roberta G over Veronica. Roberta has more natural soul and a captivating stage presence. Swift performed at the Detroit Jazz Fest a few years ago and her presence was absolutely boring. We weren’t all that impressed. She comes off as a singer who copies and lives in the shadow of the greats instead of carving out her own innovative identity. Detroit knows music and know when an artist is not....
@@F0nkyNinja , not in anyway like the great Sarah Vaughn.
@@jampoles not in any way like the Great Ella !
La version de Clifford Brown reste encore parmi l'une des plus mémorables sans rien enlever à Wynton bien évidemment... Véronica est superbement articulée ! Quelle maitrise vocale et imagination! A ce tempo, c'est colossal !!!
All of them sounded incredible. This is world class musicianship at its finest. Man they are swinging!
This is one of the finest renditions of Cherokee I have heard.
Indeed!
You don't know nothing yet.
At 5:22, it sounded like a quote from the music of the Disney movie, “Up” !!
Yooooo Saxologic is here!
Good ear!
Disney Pixar
I lost it when he played that
HAGAHAAHGFAGHFHGAFHGAFHAF
I love seeing how the saxophonist looks at him with deep respect "asking" to go or to wait a little bit.
Just saw her live tonight sining a couple tunes in a Chris Botti show. Commanding. He had a legit male opera singer on right before her and I was like that’s gonna be tough to top but man her control on every little note is entrancing. She played Botti’s trumpet too a little lol. Phenomenal seeing such talented people focus their skills into jazz.
Veronica carries the torch well. She’s on fire.
well if you got set on fire you wouldn't be holding the torch that well
I love her voicing and intonation just lovely just like Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughn Betty Carter
7:35 cool blues quote. gotta love the tenor reaction
Wynton and Walter's reactions to Veronica's resolutions during her solo say it all.
This has to be one of the finest performances I can recall.
Outstanding solo by Veronica and love Walter Blanding and Dan Nimmer's solos as well. Also love how Walter was really listening to and digging his band member's solos.
wow shes incredible live. i didnt think much of her recorded stuff but im in awe at her abilities not just as a singer but as a performer
Wynton Marsalis was on 10 as usual.
Virtuosity at it's pinnacle!
00:38
Yeah but his lines aren't really melodic. Sorry
fuck wynton.
I included this time stamp to highlight how bloated and half assed his ideas are
@@andy_travis My Man!!
Ms. Swift has done her Ms. O'Day homework...
I think you mean ella!.......
@@Jazzmarcel I see Anita in her more than any other singer, but she does more complex lines and more 8th notes in general than Anita.
@@rolom3 Both are there with a little Annie Ross thrown in for good measure. She respects her influences!
@@Jazzmarcel I totally agree, I heard Ella coming through her so clearly! I would say Ella is one of her main influences and it's clear they love her!
She's got Anita down, with some Ella for good "measure"!
My jaw was open all the way. Incredible performance the whole 11 minutes trough. Also, everyone's enjoying themselves and you can actually feel it when you watch this video. So powerful and energetic. I love it !
This could have been two hours long and I would still be sitting here...first of all Cherokee is my favorite Bop song and second of all THEY PLAYED THEIR FACES OFF!!!
i cry at veronica's solo! how can someone be soooo good !!!!!
The combined brilliance of these performers create a superb glittering Wow!!
MERCI ❤️
QUELLE PRESTATION MAGISTRALE💜
GRATITUDE MONSIEUR MARSALIS pour les bonheurs musicaux que vous nous avez donné 🌹
ET VIVE LE FESTIVAL JAZZ IN MARCIAC☀️🙏
It's great to see Master Francesco Ciniglio on drums! Please put him in the description!
Right on, give the drummer some! He and the band were swinging!!
I second that
Batteries is French for drum
He sounds awesome!
@@jambajoby32 italian, from Napoli
That has to be one of the most amazing scat sequences I've ever heard in my 10 years of being a jazz fan.
Winton Marsalis is a great man and an awesome musician, i just love him..
Wynton, I remember you when you were young and playing with Art Blakey in Montreal
In the eighties. What I remember, ber so clearly and felt was the joyfull energy between you
Art and the other musicians, it by was truly a moment in my life I shall never forget
The place was The Rising Sun and you were all great and memorable❤️🇨🇦
Marsalis is inexhaustible💚
What a sextet! Unbelievable performance. Inspired by the music, the cats inspire each other entering beyond known territory. And once again Marciac is the facilitator. Thanks for sharing.
Swift gives you a SMIDGET of Sass, a SMIDGET of Ella and ALL of HERSELF!!! I love it!!!
I'm so glad I found her!!
Veronica, please keep doing what you're good at and what feels right. No need to be like CMS. She can do things that you can't, but you can do things that she can't. No one else on this planet can scat with your horn-like harmonic, melodic and rhythmic inventiveness. Do what you're good at and what feels right, whether that be opera, goth rock or country. (As if she would ever read this lol).
Excuse my ignorance, but who is CMS?
@@RocketCalcutta Cecile McLorin Salvant. She's great, but in a different way than Veronica. Cecile doesn't scat and outline chords, but she has a more resonant and dynamic voice than Veronica. Cecile often sings with an amazing pianist named Sullivan Fortner. Check out her album titled Ghost Song.
This concert is great:

@@troldhaugen thanks for the info 😁👍
Real musicians playing real music... :)
Surely Swift is the best Jazz scatter of our time. Not only the wealth of ideas, but also her pure singing technique is excellent! - Veronica Swift should be at the top of the jazzsinger charts - and not Krall or Gardot.
Veronica Swift would be great for a biopic of Anita O'Day. She looks like her younger self and she improvises amazingly well!
She has said herself that Anita is her hero :)
Excellent version by the singer Veronica Swift with brilliant scat-song and the Winton Marsalis Band ! A wonderful performance of the wonderful evergreen song CHEROKEE !!
Veronica Swift rocks!!!!!
Veronica Swift is impressive! Just 24 years old!
Was taken in so well, what talent and precision.
She is amazing and only 24 years old and you can tell Wynton is loving her scatting!
That sublime wandering Wynton does at 10:10 blows my mind - not to detract from all the amazing performances here!
THIS will go down in history as one of THE GREATEST PERFORMANCES BY A FEMALE JAZZ VOCALIST of all time!
I discovered her a few days ago and I am totally impressed with Veronica. What a great, sensational, fantastic, amazing singer, performer.
The drummer is so good I often forgot about him. Nice work, man! What a great collab.
Oh Veronica Swift PLAYED TOO! She was flawless. She honored Vaughan & Ella just being her natural self. They peeked out every now and then but it was all her. Priceless.
Oh my G-d I haven't seen anything like this anywhere! She lit JALCO on FIRE! What a voice, what a super talent and what magnificent singing!!!! BRAVISSIMO!!!
So hip I meant to say Red Garland. Wynton has taken over the mantle of Art Blakey. 🤗🤗 love him for that. Bringing young jazz musicians to the fore and mentoring them. His dad Ellis is resting in peace God bless his soul with the knowledge that his son is carrying on his legacy Branford as well and Jason
That singer made me cry. Thanks Véronica Swift
X2 mano
Veronica gave me the chills. Stupendously Stupendous!
Wow. She is really good. Being a trumpet player helps to understand the harmonics. And she is pretty as well.
I f***ing adore the phrasing from 6:35. like the spirit of Ella resides in her. Magic.
she's so soulful even on the short notes its weird, I´m getting hooked to the phenomena
Veronica Swift is AWESOME!!!
Beau souvenir, et Véronica est super!
Wow!!! This is not humanly possible, they are all masters at their craft
my goodness this woman is amazing!!!
Fantastic singer!
Hello Wynton, we will never forget the live concert in Berlin in 2001 acc. to our 25th jubilee day. Thank you so much. Today i have heard for the first time of Veronica during "Skain’s Domain: An Intimate Weekly Conversation with Wynton Marsalis - Episode 2" which i selected more randomly, 'only' reading the name of Wynton Marsalis. She is a very extraordinaire talent in singing. Wow, what a voice. Thank you for uploading this video.
UNbelievable band and great to see and be a part of the fun they are having. Veronica, great.
This dress is very adorable and her voice is from another planet not to speak how beautiful she looks!
Exceptionnel, tous ensemble. Une dinguerie du jazz cette vidéo. Merci Jazz in Marciac d'avoir créé ce moment suspendu.
real musicians all around !!!!.......wow what a blast
Wonderful performance! 👏👏👏👏👏
Merci Winton et tous ses musiciens avec la grande Veronica.
Un moment de pur plaisir.. Sur mon écran, je regrette de ne pas avoir été à Marciac l'année dernière.
Robert
I tear up with this masterpiece
Damn, when Wynton open his horn up the last couple bars… crazy cool!

She's fresh. Good work!
Absolutely amazing!!!
All the musicians are absolutely amazing
Excellent as usual.
absolutely amazing voice.
Veronica is astounding!!
what a great young singer!! of course they are all great! flat five forever!!!
I try not to comment every time I watch this but this is just perfection...after all that jamming here comes Swift with the Scat verse of LIFE!!! This is the best 11 minutes 11 seconds my ears have ever opened themselves up to!!!
A Jewel ........... To listen a thousand times
Fantásticos músicos, inspiração, bom gosto, elegância, show maior !
I have never heard anyone scat with such gorgeous tone. Easy on the eyes too.
i will listen to this one million times
absolutely fantastic
Damn... revisting this video. Veronica is just spectacular. What an amazing solo
