Patrick Bartley is simply one of the top dogs on the scene right now. He’s so modest I doubt he’d agree but I really can’t think of a cat on his level right now. In my useless opinion, I put him right up there with Potter, Redman, Reynolds and all the many others :).
His range and flexibility are there with Potter, Baptiste Herbin, and Donnie McCaslin. I don't feel that Reynolds or Redman are anywhere near the instrumental mastery of these three.
@@src9691 I guarantee you that if you went and listened to Redman’s recording of Remember off his Village vanguard album you would have a different opinion
i would never say Cohen and Bartley are derivative. but the intro answers the question, "how great would mccoy tyner and cannonball adderley have been together?" fucking great.
Pat is so brilliant to me because he has all the chops you could ever need and he can play circles all day but then he reaches into the deepest depths of his soul and plays a line like the one at 5:14 and just leaves my jaw on the floor. Seriously amazing musicianship all around
Anytime Patrick comes on it's like the Avengers are assembling!!! I would LOVE to see some performances with electric instruments like Rhodes keyboards, EWIs, Roland Aerophones especially with songs like Spain.
Absolutely phenomenal. First heard of Mr. Bartley through Adam Neely's channel, and have been a fan ever since. Thank you for sharing your extraordinary talent.
10:05 wow. It seems like you don't often hear horn players land big on the b9 like Pat does here. I'm relatively new and inexperienced, but I've never heard that before.
Emmet should do a session with Esperanza Spalding on bass, Aaron Burnett tenor sax, Justin Brown drums and Patrick Bartley playing Andrew Hill, Joe Henderson and Eric Dolphy tunes

I mean Bartley is like incredibly fun to listen to like come on he’s great, I agree is he’s on another level
and then theres james carter in a league of his own
Lamp must not be that low - this take is burnin
Mr. Nakamura is truly a legend. He gets recognition for it, but he always deserves more.
Absolutely.

I agree, his improvisation skills are unsurpassed ! EPIC !!!!
Its like the chords dont even exist, he just plays and it comes out naturally
Best Cannonball-style alto I've heard since, well, Cannonball.
Patrick went to high school at Dillard in Fort Lauderdale where Julian Adderly was the band director in the from 1948-1950.
I'm not really a Jazz guy, but this is dope! Glad the algorithm served this one up.
If you are a VGM guy you might like to check out Pat’s J-Music Ensemble - extremely listenable jazz based on VGM
@@cooldebt I'm not, but maybe that's because I haven't heard them yet :)
This is seriously one of the most beautiful and passionate jazz performances I've ever seen; Patrick Bartley's playing is fucking insane!
12/5/2022 - Any jazz performance qualifies as "one of the most beautiful." Why don;t you stop hedging and just say "this is the most beautiful."
You are so right!!!
As good as anything from the Blue Note era😊😊

Shout out to Pat and any other j-music fam. I'm still around.
they dont have enemies with tunes like this
That But Not For Me quote at 9:20 is brilliant. Yasushi is a monster
I'm not hearing it. Which part of the tune is being alluded to?
Sounds familiar…Whose version?
I came to the comments looking to talk about exactly this! So inspiring every time Nakamura plays the bass.
Ahmad Jamal - Live at the Pershing@@anonymoususer9616
@@moosome it's the bassline in bars 3-4 of ahmad jamal's version live at the pershing:)

A gem among gems
The piano solo on this is killing!! 👌
Yeah, awesome
5:54 I love the exchange of glances
That melody reminds me of Ravel’s Pavane for Princess
the song is based on that part of its melody
Emmet please never move out of this apartment.
what I wouldn't give to live below them lol
😂😂
Bro he shouldn't pay rent they pay him to live there
So glad I got this recommended to me! Everyone here is absolutely killing it, especially Patrick's and Emmet's solo sections.
J-Music fam 💪💪💪 What a great recording!!!
Insanely creative and melodic Patrick.
🙇🏾♂️Thank you for keeping traditional Jazz alive!
Absolutely loved this!
Saw Emmet’s group in NYC last year too.
6:25 no way he snuck the lick in there

Killer bass solo
Great Bassist!!!
And yet Patrick is going harder and further away, that's incredible

Amazing talent !!!!
I really love this. Does anyone know about other saxophonist that play as good or on the level of Patrick Bartley so i could add them to my playlist
Nice jam i really enjoyed it
Bartley, the 4th member of the Trio. Like the 5th Beatle. Brings music Miles ahead.
7:50 was pretty funny
does anyone know about the rhythm tag he pat initiates at 3:35 ?
Took me this long to release this is a ravel melody
nice....i'd like to hear more of kyle poole....
Guys ❤ 🎉
How did i successfully expect emmet’s playing in 4:10-4:11? Is that something? Were they intended?
i feel nujabes in here
The sound you get in a living room in great!
What do you record the alto with? Great sound!
Nujabes linked!
Dead Princess?? Big dig
Ravel?
What is the payPal credentials ?
Written by Maurice Ravel (as Pavane pour une infante defunct)
I can't help but think of Samurai Champloo/Nujabes when I hear this tune
Everyone is talking about Ravel, but I'm more interested in the nod to Pharaoh Sanders!

Patrick play the melody like if it was a game character in a old school plateformer videogame, jumping, running fast, grabbing coins... ^^
Red cap or blue cap
Très très chaud !…
I really miss Russel Hall 😭
Pensé que era Mohamed Sala
