Emmet Cohen - Piano
Gilad Hekselman - Guitar
Russell Hall - Bass
Obed Calvaire - Drums
hands down best use of muted piano i've ever heard. 0% gimmicky, just 100% serving the style and sound of the solo. Incredible group overall!!
I don't know what all genres the drummer plays... i just know he's the right man for any gig
Obed is an insane drummer. Plays with the JALC orchestra. He’s even better live!
@@unterklingen1wait but isn't this already live
@@liuzh1han good point. I meant in person 🥸
@@unterklingen1 oh..
Lol
4:08 Gilad surprised Russel with his lick
How about the almost lick at 6:28 🙃
@@cooldebt that was my FAV part of the solo!
The drummer is having a blast just like everyone else it seems, even more so than usual. Love to see such talented musicians having so much fun
Blast is exactly why they’re doing it 😉
something about the guitar tones and the drums and the muted piano and the basslines just make me feel like some earthen excitement has been awakened by the music
Emmett you muted string piano solo was amazing! You always surprise me with your playing!
the octaves section following this is beautiful too!
I've come to learn that a friendly smile between two vibing musicians is only beaten by a smile from your child or loved ones, it's that strong.
Emmet's solo is a masterclass on the effect a wonderful rhythm section (particularly a drummer) can have on the feel and story of a solo! Amazing.
keep coming back to this day after day, week after week - pure joy
how is it even possible to keep a smile for 14 minutes? well, this song has managed to do so
man y'all got me smiling 😄
12:41 onwards
look at the faces, thats what music is about and Emmet never fails to deliver that message through these videos
I love the way T42 evolves in this quartet version: Starting off with Emmet Cohen's piano playing of the verse (brought me back to Frank Denke playing "Tea For Two" at the St. Francis Hotel as one of my father's most popular requests - he'd also begin with the verse, then go into the main body of the tune all in his LH) - the first solo chorus being stop time comping with drummer improvising fills (reminded me of Dad playing stop time chords while Mom - a former dancer - tap danced on a rolled back carpet for after dinner guests). A guitar solo with a Latin/Cha-Cha beat laid down a danceable groove. The contrast between muted piano strings opening up into a very tasty solo, later with chromatic chord modulations (how did bassist Russell Hall know to do that?) was a delightful surprise! A bass solo, and swing ending of Tea For Two by these 4: Loved it!
@@willfulkersonmusic Probably so - intuitive musicians can pick up on subtle cues (could be a note or chord quality change, or a glance from Emmet to Russell to indicate "go to these alternate set of chord changes" - I call this "Giving the Hairy Eyeball" to my music partners and hope they catch it) but it seems like the Cohen/Hall combination is incredibly intuitive!
@@DebbieDenkeMusicActually, I think Russel just reacted quickly. Pay attention to the moment Emmet first starts raising the ii-V. Russel pauses to process, then catches on. This probably isn’t the first time Emmet has used these exact changes on this tune, though. It’s certainly not the only time.
@2:50 I've never seen that technique! So nice.
i have listened to this over 100 times
If I ever have a bad day ever again, this is the first place you'll find me. THE JOY THAT THIS VIDEO RADIATES
I love when how they in the moment decide to do the head out in swing.
this just looked like so much fun. life doesn’t get much better than this.
Lord . Amazing . Love them all . Thank you for a beautiful music ❤
Some of my favorite guitar licks! *chef's kiss*
Absolutely hysterical in all the right ways
So many good moments in this brilliantly fresh take on an old tune. My favourite is the L I C (just short of it 😉) @6:28
This was incredible. Thank you so much emmet.
absolutely beautiful
Love the patience in this take. Incredible.
what a fun arrangement. had me on the edge of my seat, literally. loved it.
what a group ! thanks fellas~!
What a place it is, so much room for space in music.
Wow! Such a fresh and creative version! This is my favourite music channel 😀
As good as it gets! A very happy place!
i cant stop smiling
this has brought me much joy
Every video is a master class!❤️
C'était vraiment super! Merci.
Man that was the cutest drum solo ever... And i mean that in the best possible way
One of the best drum solos of all time. The hits!
So so good!!!
Wonderful performance! Greetings from Sweden.
Beautiful!!
Fabulous session
Love this! 🔥
5:43 gilad quotes corey henry's lingus solo
You might be right! He does play a lot of melodies in progression though so might be a coincidence.
no wonder it sounded so familiar
To me, sounds like people are seeing Cory Henry in their soup. The cold and logical AI that has replaced my heart approximates to 0.00001% the chance that Gilad was actually quoting that by playing these notes.
Great. Absolutely great. Thänx.
Awesome 👏
Great performance.
Thanks!
Lifts me to a higher place full of joy and wonder
Tea for four ... 😉
Absolutely excellent . Thank you 🎼
This is the best and most musical drum solo I’ve ever heard
surprises & delights
In the pub, pint in hand, swinging, marvellous!!
Call us one, Dave
Love seeing the guitarist incorporating his pedals, we don't see enough jazz guitarists utilizing pedal boards.
Lmao 😂
Go head Emmet!!! Take me there!!
obed has got game fo sho....love that brush work
Bravo !
I think it's my favorite version of this tune now :)
Wonderfull!

I'm not sure what you guys put in your tea but after two sips everything makes a lot more sense!
Dummer loving it the whole time
Amazing
Magnifico,stupendo e,forse...insuperabile!!!
Infinite source of sounds 😀.
very creative drumming ! very creative piano playing ! very creative guitar work!
Loved you in Jerusalem man good stuff!
Obed drums for Wynton. This is a total joy!!
Love it sounds like John scofield from a different dimension
I love the sound Emmet gets when reaches into the piano to deaden the strings! Beautiful playing all around.
I like how your outro is also tea for two
Loving all these performances. Please get Adam Rogers in here. 😊
Wow!
Holy crap!
U guys please play on my wedding someday !!!!
Maravilha de quarteto !!! Todos craques !!! Adorei o batera !!!😃😃😂😂😋😋😇😇
Just wonderful... don't have much to say.
3:36 awesome lesson!!
Fantastic musicians, come to Brasil...
Emmet Cohen é um gato 😽!!
Outro hits even harder this time
Having fun...that's what it's all about
Man I love Gilad's playing. Everyone is killing it on this!
信じられないくらい良い
Love them playing around with the conventions here. What is jazz if not spontaneous experimentation?
GILAAAAAD
8:52 Is from the firebird suite by stravinsky
Emmet's place is where jazz and smiles meet.... the result is pure joy. Thanks for this bro....
Tap dancing with that drum kit, pretty damn cool.
The drummer omg
At the end of his intro, he quotes one of my favorite tunes, if you could see me now
This has to be the craziest thing I’ve heard in a while, the guitar tone and the piano man it’s just amazing tamber and music man it’s amazing to watch too 🔥
i cannot help but grin
MEGA Drum-Solo !!!
Guitarists name is Gilad Hekselman. And all the rest great !! By the way Emmet solo always suprises me.🙃
Do you know what kind of guitar he plays?
@@koula901 Some kind of Moffa guitar I think.
Finest T!
👍👍👍👍👍🙂 -.- very very good!!! -.-
이 노래를 이런 연주로 듣다니 감사함니다
캬
That Laura quote at 7:46 though... 🤯
What are those black sticks Obed is using. Great drummer!
Beautiful! love to know the pedals Gilad was using for those sounds.
I messaged him and asked and he and he was kind enough to tell me it's a Pigtronix but he couldn't remember the name of the model. I'm pretty sure it's the Pigtronix Octava. You can see a little red pedal on the board that looks like it at 4:00 and if you check out the demo on the Pigtronix channel they have a similar tone dialed at the end of the video.
@@doogbazzard damn you are the hero we needed
Nerd ;)
@@doogbazzard Thank you !
Definitely some kind of octave.
