In War Thunder tandem warheads have so much pen they just bruteforce their way in. You'd need to check some niche ones such as BMP-3's Arkan ATGM which is Tandem but doesn't have that much pen.

The secondary seems more for tandem HEAT than huge raw protection. As seen on the vikhr in particular. The tandem warhead is probably something like 700+100 and the first tile eats the 100, the second one eats 635, leaving less than 100mm for the side armor and suspension to absorb. Edit: BRUH WHAT??? That tiny additional ARAT 2 panel can eat the sturmtiger rocket?

I've been fixing this mistake for a few months already leveling Sweden. I'm at rank 7 at the moment and having a much better experience with Swedish 10.3 lineup compared to American 10.3. It's like Germany but more and better. Hope 122s won't disappoint like SEPs. The only downside is CAS: AJ37 with only two mavericks is not comparable to what USA can offer at that br, but certainly better than German.
@@Madoyon.Oh don't worry, the 122 won't dissappint. They're incredibly annoying to kill. So, from my experience facing them, you'll enjoy them quite a lot. As long as you have a brain and do not show your lower plate and don't sit in one spot so enemies can aim carefully at your breach, then you shouldn't have any problems. Edit: oh and one other thing i forgot to mention, compared to the abrams, the strv is much harder to kill with HE due to it having less junk on its roof to catch the shell.
@@Juel92 The thing that matters the most is that strvs have stronger hulls as well, therefore, allowing you more room for error while playing hull down. It manages to bounce my 3bm60 from time to time. Not something to rely on, but it can save you sometimes. Although, i doubt it will save you if you're facing nato mbts because they have better penetration than soviet mbts. But the strvs have very high pen as well, so it can slice through armour like it's nothing.
Well 635mms is just not enough HEAT protection in that era/tier, maybe IRL vs urban handheld munitions, but not helos. But maybe part of it has to do with this being a 90s/very early 2000s (but I think the latest is 1997, or 2006 I’m not sure, I just know we literally have current day MBTs like the 2a7V aka 2024 which are coming into service) tank at best.

Well, handheld and infantry-portable munitions in general. The main benefit to the ARAT 2 on top is vs tandem warheads for such munitions. Unfortunately, vehicle-mounted ATGMs that can pack 150mm+ width warheads with 4x or more explosives behind their shaped charges than barrel-launched or infantry carried HEAT will brute force their way past any armor light enough to be used on the side of the vehicle at present. Which is part of the reason why there's so much put into active defense systems over trying to further improve ERA.

To be hair US ERA is mainly made to deal with RPGS warheads in urban warfare at close ranger something like a kornet will be able to break the ERA and problably pen. But of course its all on paper we still didn't see a situation like this on IRL.
ARAT was designed to deal with modern RPG warheads, including tandem warheads, that can penetrate about 750mm RHA, if not more. Just because it's handheld doesn't mean it's a joke - just ask Russia as to how well it lasted trying to deal with Ukrainian National Guardsmen with a bunch of RPG-7s (with modern warheads) and Panzerfaust 3s.
russian and chinese era are different they are using modern dual purpose era, china is using fourth gen era and russia is using fifth gen era while america is using second gen era, they are simply not experienced enough with this.

And that like in real life that era is only affective at angles so you could test that theory out. From a coverage point of view, arat-2 is better, as it covers more of the tank. From an efficiency point of view, kontakt-5 is better, as it stops both chemical and kinetic projectiles better. Overall, i prefer kontakt-5, as it does its job better.

The principles are different. Relikt utilizes two 35mm plates which are fed into the projectile. So the actual metal plates in Relikt, and even K-5 are actually thicker. The explosives in the US are bigger though. So Russian ERA can be more effective against both kinetic and chemical warheads, while ARAT is designed solely for HEAT.

The principles are different. Relikt utilizes two 35mm plates which are fed into the projectile. So the actual metal plates in Relikt, and even K-5 are actually thicker. The explosives in the US are bigger though.
So Russian ERA can be more effective against both kinetic and chemical warheads, while ARAT is designed solely for HEAT.
Relikt is most effective when placed at an angle, placing it straight will make it lose its effect.

The key reason for this armor package isn’t to necessarily stop tanks it’s to stop personal based anti armor weapons ie RPGs
Only the russians can handle the the adt of ERA

Angling ERA wouldn't matter because it explodes on impact unlike armor which actively holds its shape unless something busts through it or course.
