    They use alternative tunings for their guitars, and for the bass. Jonathan Davis, the lead vocalist, is HEAVILY influenced by Rap music, and considers Korn to be something of a fusion of Rap and Metal and other styles. I would strongly suggest taking a listen to "Got the Life" as the disco beat is a completely unique addition to any form of metal. I saw Korn in El Paso, and they sound just as chaotically polished and intense live as they do in studio recordings. Jonathan Davis was personally influenced a lot by Electronic Dance Music and New Wave Music from the 1980s. He was a huge fan of the band "The Cure." There is also a really cool interview with co-lead guitarist Brian Welch (ua-cam.com/video/QMdEG1-jY3Q/v-deo.html) where he discusses the origins of the band's sound. Glad you're flowing natural again! Peace out!

    Thanks for the reaction like seeing how young people react to a song of my 20's, released in 1999 this video was very unique for the cinematic style for a hard rock and heavy mental band as no other added that hip hop beatbox style before a very uncharted territory for that style of music, Korn is one of the most artistic and great rock bands still touring just not during Covid, their lyrics have meaning and can be extremely deep and personal like the song "Daddy" brutal honesty and pain the lead singer Jonathan endured as a child the song is brutal and raw and none of it at the end is fake actual studio recording left in by them where he has an emotional breakdown while recording the song. They are the most unappreciated rock band of this generation but hopefully through the younger generation discovering them and listening to their music they will get the respect the deserve for this genre there is also another video that is a continuation from this song if you haven't listened to it yet called "Falling Away From Me" you will see the animee live action again.

    Chorus and tremolo. Phasers. 808s. You got a good ear. This album has some of the coolest pedal effects on guitars and vocals, a couple years before everything in music went digital. 94-98 Korn was all analog recording tape, pedals & 808s. After that there is a lot more of an electronic aspect

    That face at 4:23. Haha, I 100% can relate. They tune down a whole step to get that deep guitar sound and the bass player uses a quasi slap technique so the strings hit the fretboard to get that clicking sound. I think he boosts the highs and the lows and drops the mids too. Good ear, dude.

    • @ac9062
      @ac9062 3 роки тому

      Tuned down 1 step on a 7 string guitar though. The low string on 6-string guitar is usually tuned to E. The low string for Korn's guitarists are tuned to A (3.5 steps lower).

      Fieldy is a unique bass player for sure. Have you checked out Louis Johnson? He was a pioneer in slapping his thumbs. They called him Thunder Thumbs because he would always break the bass strings with just his thumb. He does a fantastic tutorial (it's dated) here on YT. Just put his name in the search and it will blow your mind and your ears.

    Hey man, I know this reaction been out more than a minute, in fact until last week, I've never watched a reaction to this song at all, not because I don't like it, but it was so huge when it came out in all the circles I ran in, it became one of those bangers you get tired of, but then revisit it 10 or 20yrs later and are like....Damn!! I forgot how friggin' good this song is. So I've consumed probably 50 or more reactions this past week because I absolutely love seeing people react to the break and then the drop.
    BUT....what I popped into say is, For one, my algorithm hasn't been bringing me your channel lately and I'm glad to see ya still doing your thing, and grindin'. Second, your reaction showed me you're still the best reactor in the game, or at least top 3, no cap! I think we chatted after an RATM song, about a year ago, about some effects or something, that I was amazed how accurately you called the technique in the studio or something like that, I'm the dude that used to apprentice and work part time at a sound studio before going into firefighting. So on this song, of all the reactions I saw this past week, you're the only one that questioned if that very first subtle bass tone was an 808 or just a smooth first bass pluck with some effects, maybe compression, on it. I thought the same thing, and still don't know which. You're also the only reactor to describe the weird interlude before the hard drop with the word scat!! I've debated with friends in the past, and said I personally feel like that part and after the drop is all like a fusion of beat box and scat set to crazy backing riffs, then super sweet crunchy chords. Gotta be in the top 10 all time epic drops.
    Anyway, hopefully watching this will get back in the algorithm, if not I'll seek out more reactions of yours.
    NOTE: Not usually one of those "do this or that song next" guys, but about 6months ago discovered this dude Tobe Nwigwe (Nigeran, pronounced toe-bee en-wig-way), you might have heard of him, but you don't have any reactions on your channel, he is sooooooo what hip hop needs, he's from H town, represents Alief projects, almost went pro in football, career ending injury senior year, ended up homeless for a while, started a ministry working with troubled youth n stuff, started rappin for fun with the kids, and they told him he was better than half the rappers out there. (paraphrased a lot of that) Anyway, his cousin Nel does his beats and his wife wraps in a lot of his songs, he also does occasional performances of his rap songs, with his crew, full band, keyboard, bass, drums, backing singers, it's like a modern version of MTV unplugged, sounds like completely different song, whit same message and lyrics. and when he was comin up he released a freestyle every Sunday for free on UA-cam, for a couple years straight, called them twisted Sundays, That's how I stumbled on him, he just sits on the floor with Fat, his wife, twists his hair. Song is called Tribute to Rakim and Z-ro, I swear I got 3 stacks vibes from that song, and I've heard others say the same. Anyway, not worried about a reaction on him, be dope if ya did, but man I'm telling you, I can think of a reactor, if you've never checked him out, that this artist was made for more than you, so even if its off screen check him out, he's the real deal. ✌️💚

    While I'm glad to see people still discovering Korn, I'm also bummed it's not as popular as it used to be. Some people like to mock Korn nowadays, but they were one of the top bands of the 90s, due to their style of blending Grunge w/ rap style lyrics (at least in some of the later stuff). Their last good song was "Got The Life" from the end of the 90s.

    What a great tune, Korn does some really good stuff! I will WARN YOU, don't get too curious about the origin of the band's name, you may not like what you discover. I saw Korn open for Rob Zombie many years ago in San Diego and it was off the hook! "Spittin' voodoo incantations" LMAO!!!! More stank face too! Great reaction and breakdown, Jonathan Davis is the singer...I would SERIOUSLY suggest doing Got The Life next, thanks!!

    I have read all the things that has been said this song is supposed to be about. But music is free to be interpreted to whatever it means to you individually. That being said, I have never seen this song as music...To me it is ART!!! much like Bohemian Rhapsody, Stairway to Heaven, I would do anything for love (but I won't do that), etc .. just my own humble opinion

    Korn is very lyric heavy. If you like those guitars then check out their song Hater or checkout something more recent from the like Cold and you’ll never find me. You won’t be disappointed!
