@dave8837 I agree. I heard that first alblum and was hooked! I've really seen them 3 times. The first time, they opened for House of Pain at JJ WHISPERS Nightclub in '94, I believe. The other two times, they were the headliners. I would love to see them again.
@davidl7605 I'm really not trying to play catch up, but I saw them in between, Lol. Hell Yeah, and Five Finger Death Punch opened. Great show. I started with Follow the Leader, then went back.
I was not a big Korn fan, but I was in 12 grade when it came out, and it was like an undisclosed anthemed for my graduating class. Everyone from the goth kids, the preppy kids, the jocks, cheerleaders, nerds, geeks, etc, black white, asian, hispanic, everyone knew and would jam out to this song when it would be played. It was insane when you think about it, but it was cool for the times.

The music scene in Korn's hometown of Bakersfield, CA is fascinating to me. Nu metal is the second variation on a genre that city has given birth to. The first is the Bakersfield Sound variation of country music. Pioneered by Buck Owens, it has a bit of an edge you don't get out of Nashville. I think they amped the Western part of country & western back up a bit. Anyone reading this who is of a certain age and American may remember Hee-Haw, Buck Owens' TV show that promoted his sound and its artists. You seeing episodes of Hee-Haw would be priceless, Diane!!!
Korn is one of those Gem bands that are still going strong 20+ years later & still maintain that "Authentic Korn Signature Sound 🖤👌 Would love to see you react to either *A Perfect Circle - Judith* Or *A Perfect Circle - Down and by the river* 😊
Agree. I still listen to this day, even though I never considered myself a giant fan of theirs by any means. They’re just so unique and expressive that I find myself coming back a few times a year and listening to my favorite albums. It’s impossible to think you’re listening to anyone else when KOЯN is on
Korn is one of those groups where I would much rather just listen to the music than try to figure out wtf is going on in the video, and what it has to do with the song.
I love korn, and the music video adds to the music; but… I agree that it generally is better for many to listen to the music and not the visuals that explains the music further.
BEST way to do Korn is to Listen to the songs First, then RE-listen while watching the video!! That way you can headbang together with Johnathan Davis!!🤘😛
I always learn something new about every band with you on the music journey when looking up what the songs and music's about. I always enjoy learning with you.
I used the music of Korn therapeutic. I had survived 32 dark years of constant abuse. In this clip of Korn is a part of chaos but there is also a part of peace. With good pro help I found peace in my heart. Funny thing is I can fall asleep hearing Korn it gives me ... peace
I've heard Korn's freak on a leash before though I always enjoy seeing your reactions to the song on the music journey while jamming to the music video.
Diane once again your facial expressions says it all! Never heard Korn before and my reaction was the same. But it’s great that we all have different tastes in music. Diversity is life. ❤
ROFLMAO, Irish Girl! While I've heard this song many times before on radio, had never seen the video before. So, I've learned to go watch that vid first, then I'm not distracted watching your reaction. Your expressions are just uproariously entertaining, Diane! I really don't think my facial muscles are capable of what you can do. Just remember: "Duck!" always look to "dodge the bullet". Yes, those entertainment industries are similarly slimy. There are still so many artists to explore, and genres not even mentioned yet. This journey is just so much fun, looking forward to the next one. It's been a year now, 50 videos on and you've only picked up a "handful of sand from the modern music beach".
This is another enjoyable reaction video. Your reaction videos are certainly covering a lot of musical genres. I hope you enjoy making them. You certainly deserve to since they make so many folks happy.
KoRn was the soundtrack of my teenage years. I can't name another band when I remember the first time I heard one of their songs. Blind. From their 1st album. I cn tell you who was sitting in what seat of the car. The intersection when he pressed play. And our conversation when the into was playing. This band changed my life.
I was nine years old the first time I heard Shoots and Ladders on the radio and I was hooked. Sitting in the front passenger seat of my mom's car driving down Market St. 30 years later I remember like it was yesterday.
If you are feeling adventurous you should check out songs Gary Heidnik by SKYND or Seventy Thorns by Kim Dracula. Both songs feature Jonathan Davis the lead singer from Korn.
You know how there's the video game guitar hero with the guitar. An idea a new puzzle game for Chewie where the puzzle is a guitar that lights up where to play chords and Chewie plays the notes on the guitar correctly it gives him treats.
I was 17 and a metalhead back when their first album came out. I remember hanging out at a buddy's house and he was like "Dude! You gotta check out this new band man!". I fell in love and have been a fan ever since.
Your reaction was priceless!...I've been a korn fan for quite some time, seen them live a few times....I think you'd get a better experience seeing them live! But pretty sure you'll need earplugs....man their last one was awesome with Alice an chains.....pretty loud show!😁🤘🤘
This is making me feel so old. I think it has been 20 years since I last saw the music video (a year or two after it was released?). This came out when I was around 12 years old and in middle school in a small US southern town, but I remember this band (and similar ones) being really popular with some high schoolers. Not my scene, but it was not a band I would not change the radio station if their music came on.
Not sure if anyone said it yet, but there's several Korn videos with this same cartoon style and they sort of continue one another. Worth checking out.
My younger sister had a big bird shaped tape player whose mouth would move along with tapes that came with it. My older sister put a Korn tape in it so big bird looked like he was singing along.🤣
Went to the concert when this came out. Was on the floor close to the stage. When Johnathan finished the scatt part and screamed GO! The entire floor erupted into a giant mosh pit. It did not matter if you didn't want to be part of it. You were surrounded everywhere. It was incredible! 🤘
Whilst Backpacking in Denmark I was talking to a bloke from Bulgaria about rock festivals and how the had spread all over Europe and popular Bands had developed Cult like followings. He was at a Bulgarian one that wasn’t fully established. He said they had all sorts of artists appearing on the same bill. He described a scene of a sedate Bulgarian Folk group just finished to polite applause followed by Korn where the crowd went adsolutly mental
Korn when they signed their first record contract they released this song. It was the Lead's displeasure at being told what to do, and being forced to the whims of the executives literally becoming a freak on a leash. They fortunately signed with a different company a year later and in the new contract they had full freedom to do what they wanted and release music on their terms. it was a new era of the stars dictating their contracts and how a record label could be happy with it.
I like @davidwillford3119's definition - Nu Metal. Never was a huge fan, but they popup in my workout music often enough because of the energy they give off. I was more into the 80s metal and then the 60/70s as I got into high school. Now I listen to everything from Amadeus to zydeco. Some days just require a Caribbean-vibe, while dinner is a nice background jazz quartet. Cooking (which I love to do) music is dependent on my mood but usually falls into the 40s big band stuff like Tommy Dorsey. Oh yes, sounds of my middle and highschool. Nu metal and Punk were my poison. A few bands to check out if you haven't already. Garbage, CKY, Deftones, Primus, HIM, Clutch, The Pixies, The Vibrators, mastodon, spiritbox, Jinjar, The Clash, Adamant, Dead kennedys, Butthole surfers, Chevelle, Type O negative, fath no more, seven dust, Incubus, Gutter Mouth, Fear Factory, turbonegro, F.E.A.R (one of 8 musicians and bands to be band from SNL). The dead milkmen, Flogging Molly. And Darkness. You have probably heard them before though. So wishing you a Happy New Year! 😊
First time I've heard a Korn song start to finish. I've known a handful of humans who were into Korn, every last one of them has gone through unspeakable depths of suffering. Moving on, otherwise I'll tear up. Since there's nothing better to do, here comes a suggestion for another one... "Beyond The Mirror" by Pain Of Salvation. Over 8 minutes of balls to the wall, emotionally deep and also dark as f***.
My first listen to Korn was in Catholic grade school when a friend of mine brought in Life Is Peachy and we listened to Twist all the time. This was in 1996 wjen they were basically brand new with a couple years under their belt as a band. Twist displays all of Jonathons scat vocals. Really cool track.
Korn has been my favorite band since I was 12! They helped me through a lot during my teenage years, so they have always held a special place in my heart. Glad you gave them a good listen, from your fellow "plastic Paddie" 😂
I first got exposed to Korn form one of their songs Twist. I was like what the heck was I listening too. But as time went on and I started listening to more Korn songs I became hooked by their music. Lorna music sounded like a mixture of Hip Hop and Metal, and it blends in perfectly, much like Limp Bizkit or Slipknot. One of my favorite songs from Korn is Here to Stay. Check out the music video of Here to Stay, it is awesome.
Ah Korn. Middle school/high school nostalgia! Luckily you went with this song and not “Daddy”. That was is…uh….traumatic for the listener as much as the singer, whose name escapes me at the moment since my brain is still asleep.
@@DianeJenningsIt's a powerful, disturbing song with message. I wouldn't recommend an on-line reaction, but you could listen on your own. Have tissues at the ready.
I'm fairly certain that a coworker was listening to this song the other day. That video is great. Agreed, the band member are probably living in very nice houses now.
looking up nu metal bands on Wikipedia I found a lot of bands I did not even know where nu metal bands. I guess that are kinda a mix between metal and rock band. You oughta take a look at the list.
KoRn debuted in 1994 and was a natural progression of the 90's angst rock music by Nirvana & Alice In Chains... except KoRn fused hip hop influences w/ heavy rock - they de-tuned their guitars and added funk grooves to create something unique and energetic. Their lyrics were controversial for invoking experiences of child abuse... loss of innocence... mental anguish... Things that people did not put into music back then... It gave a new generation of rock fans to get their anger and frustrations out into something positive. Jonathan Davis (vocals) joined members of an Oakland, California band L.A.P.D. around 1993 and KoRn was formed and signed to indie label Immortal Records for their debut album in 1994 w/ distribution by Epic Records... The band featured Brian 'Head' Welch and James 'Munky' Shaffer (guitars), Reggie 'Fieldy' Arvizu (bass) and David Silveria (drums)... MTV put the band's videos on air in 1995 and the debut album eventually sold gold (half million copies) in the US... w/ singles like - 'Blind'... 'Clown' ... 'Shoots and ladders'... 🤘🤘🔥🔥 KoRn's 2nd album 'Life is peachy' was a darker, hardcore record and went gold even faster than their debut album. This was KoRn's 3rd album 'Follow the leader' which charted at #1 in the US and sold 5x platinum in the US (5 million copies) and made #5 in the UK... KoRn was definitely the biggest band of their 'nu metal' genre in 1998 and they followed it up w/ another #1 album 'Issues' in 1999. However, drug and alcohol abuse was taking a toll on the members of KoRn... After a major set at the Woodstock '99 Festival, KoRn was getting bigger and bolder musically... but falling apart under pressure behind the scenes... Guitarist Brian 'Head' Welch ended up quitting the band in 2004 after 2 more successful albums... Drummer David Silveria left in 2007 just before KoRn performed on MTV 'Unplugged' w/ Amy Lee of Evanescence performing a stellar acoustic version of 'Freak on a leash' w/ the band... KoRn released the electronic influenced 'untitled' album in 2007 and recruited Ray Luzier (drums)... but never replaced guitarist Head officially (Brian 'Head' Welch got clean and embraced Christianity... but his troubles the band persisted as he struggled to raise his daughter as a single father) By 2011, KoRn was still successful, but rather creatively stuttering... They released a 'dubstep' album 'The Path of totality' and would finally reunite w/ Brian 'Head' Welch in 2013 for the album 'Paradigm shift'... KoRn was back on track and making new music, but in 2018... tragedy struck singer Jonathan Davis... His 2nd wife and mother to his kids Deven Davis lost her battle to drug addictions and passed away. Davis poured his grief into the 2019 KoRn album 'The Nothing'. After the pandemic, KoRn were back w/ the album 'Requiem' in 2022 and on tour again. Other KoRn classics - 'Got the life' ... 'Need to' ... 'Here to stay' ... 'Make me bad' ... 'Falling away from me' ... "Y'all want a single" ... 'Coming undone'... 'Hold on' ... 'Never never'... 🤘🤘🔥🔥
I love KoRn. I have seen them in concert 5 times. They never disappoint. They are considered the Fathers of Nu Metal. Jonathan Davis plays the bagpipes and can do things with his voice that should probably be illegal!! 😂
Ova here man!👋 I've been a Korn fan since there first self titled album came out. '96 "Life is Peachy" came out.... Then Albums kept coming out!!!🤘💿💿💿💿💿
Happy Thursday Diane. Another good reaction. I just never have been able to get into this genre of music lol. I was snacking on some Fritos BBQ corn chips when I saw a new vid pop up. I remember on one video you said that you liked the Fritos corn chips. Corn chips have always been one of my favorite snacks. If you haven’t tried the BBQ flavored ones, they are good. Fritos quit with the BBQ kind for a long time, now they have brought them back, at least for the time being lol.
Unix guru David Korn is often sean giving talks wearing KoRn shirts. One of David's books on Kornshell is signed by the band. The appreciation for the band has some interesting circles.
Wouldn't consider myself a fan, but they were a part of my childhood in a way, as it came out when I was somewhere between 5th and 8th grade, and we all got to collectively experience the song. My Ukrainian mom was very strict about music and Korn was the type of thing I wasn't allowed to listen to. I got ahold of one of their cds and would listen to it under the blankets at night when i was supposed to be asleep. I only liked maybe 1.5 songs on the album, but the taboo made it more appealing, and I would replay the tracks or parts I liked in secret along with other things I wasn't allowed to listen to like any kind of rap, especially Eminem. It's probly the first thing that lead me to being a a night owl 30 years later...
Early Korn was great, but after awhile they changed. As they got more popular the music got weird, egos exploded, the band broke down, that whole thing. Sometime take a look at Type O Negative - Love You To Death. Alot of their music might not be for you, but that song is amazing.
The next time you go out of your “comfort zone “ of music, try Marylin Manson, Tool, Plasmatics, Sloppy Jane or G.G. Allin (good luck). Luv to watch these music shows with your “wtf” look on your face…Happy New Year to all!
I believe Korn is considered nu metal, similar to Slipknot, Limp Bizkit, and Linkin Park.

That’s sad
Interesting comments and I agree with your take on the industry and his . Bit nybttpe of music though.
Yes, true. Johnathan himself was brutally abused as a child
I'm 68 years old and I love that song
If we don’t see you post videos in the next few days, Happy New Year
Same to you!
😮I can only imagine
@@DianeJennings No. You cannot imagine.
Absolutely 😂
looking up nu metal bands on Wikipedia I found a lot of bands I did not even know where nu metal bands. I guess that are kinda a mix between metal and rock band. You oughta take a look at the list.
Someone dodged a bullet!
😂😂😂
Yes I wondered about The Doors as we saw it a few weeks ago. Lets go!
KoRn's 2nd album 'Life is peachy' was a darker, hardcore record and went gold even faster than their debut album.
KoRn released the electronic influenced 'untitled' album in 2007 and recruited Ray Luzier (drums)... but never replaced guitarist Head officially (Brian 'Head' Welch got clean and embraced Christianity... but his troubles the band persisted as he struggled to raise his daughter as a single father)
By 2011, KoRn was still successful, but rather creatively stuttering...
nice to see you enjoying the gentle hymns of my youth ;P
I love KoRn. I have seen them in concert 5 times. They never disappoint. They are considered the Fathers of Nu Metal. Jonathan Davis plays the bagpipes and can do things with his voice that should probably be illegal!! 😂
I love this song. Korn is a good group
1:52 I remember this video, enjoyed the concept
4:40 Reminds of the blue guy in Guardians of the Galaxy
😅
Ova here man!👋
I've been a Korn fan since there first self titled album came out. '96 "Life is Peachy" came out....
Then Albums kept coming out!!!🤘💿💿💿💿💿
Falling away from is the continuation of this song. Good music video too.
This takes me back to high school😌
LOL. John Davis. Glorious.
As a FYI, he goes by Jonathan.
How is it possible to hear this for the first time? 20+ years this band had been on the radio referred to music used I'm movies and started Nu metal.
My favorite band of all time
a clip that is not easily forgotten!.. 😊
0:52 I already knew you didnt see that coming :D
I can see Dianes third eye opening as she watches and listens ❤ 😂
Korn's Falling away from me is a sequel to this song cos it started where the kids started laughing running away from the cop in that ending!!
Lol, that "wtf" was frozen on there the last 2 min! 😅
I remember blasting this driving back and forth from high school thinking I was cool
How mistaken I was
Maybe you were cool, but just not as original as you thought you were
😂
This my favorite song, from korn!!
Korn - here to stay
My dear friend Editor Diane, I hope you're well. I remember when that video came out (yeah I'm old).
"Oh , beatbox!" Adorable
One of their best songs was This Town, a collab with K.I.T.T.E an all female Canada metal band.
Legend says that bullet is still travelling the world today 🤔
Currently got the whole life is peachy album on replay
