I definitely struggle with these, hopefully this makes a major difference & gets my TD game effective.
Get low for a minute and then next time 2 minutes and so forth
Think of it like a graph. You want that smooth flow of energy moving forward (with proper posture) til you crash into your opponent. If you fail, the ankle pick is usually still there with some extra effort lol.
Great example, we often drill “duck walks” in wrestling. Which is just continuing that motion with the other leg, and repeat until you’re smoothly gliding with power and direction. Then incorporate your hands while shooting also
Hey bro thanks for the info nugget. When you’re doing the duck walks are you kind of moving laterally at all when you change legs? Or trying to keep mostly forward momentum?
@@mattmyers1655 there will be lateral movement in the hips and knees, but you wanna keep your momentum moving forward. The lateral movement can be very helpful when lowering your stance, and trying to create an angle on the opponent
@@travisjones1481 okay awesome! I was just trying the duck walk outside in my front yard and was going a bit too far side to side. Thanks for the fast reply!
@@mattmyers1655 get those hips low! You hips should drop below your knees, and your trail/step up leg, should be placed to help drive your momentum forward. It takes time to master, but shadow wrestling, working “stance in motion” all that kinda stuff will help a lot.
@@travisjones1481 awesome, thanks again! Hit my first decent single leg at practice a few days ago, thanks for the help man!
Couldn’t agree more! Can’t blast a double if your kneecap shatters
Wow! Absolute Eureka moment! Hopefully I'll stop taking the skin off my back knee now. Thanks for posting.
I remember watching a vid with Andrew Wiltse who has a pretty good penetration step. He mentioned that if your knee touched the mat you FK up, he said you want you back leg to come 'rushing up' to plant its foot down just before the front knee lads. This helped me allot.
Can you link video pls
Another tip: instead of dropping to your knee and sending all your speed and momentum into the floor it should be straightforward and your knee will drop automatically
Yeah...my coaches always say that it's not a lunge. You're not falling forward. It's smoother. Bring your back leg up. It should be fluid
If you have knee instability due to injury use it as the back leg for power and the stable leg to steer the direction of the shot.
I used to try to double let the mat instead of my opponent too 😂👍🏼
Ohhh Okey thank!!
I learned wrestling by sparring the guys on the wrestling team and basically discovered bjj as the smaller guy in the guard position most of the time. So my double leg is like this because I was never taught to put my knee on the ground
Sounds like it never happened. Why did you make this up?
Great advice
i keep tearing up my back foot against the mat lol
Wear shoes
I’m 6ft6 218 lbs and something about dropping to my knee just doesn’t feel right to me, I like how you show the alternative penetration step
I can feel the mat burn
time to oil up
We called it "kerplunk" in wrestling so naturally I brought it to jitz. NO KERPLUNKING!
If your knee hurts, you're not low enough.
when you try this at home and your knee hits the floor 🤕
bro mat burn hit so hard, my legs and feet have been bleeding for a week and still have scars, how do i prevent this shit? it only happens to me, not for the other students
Wear knee pads and tape the top of your feet (with something like gauze under the tape). Moisturize the skin when not training. It will get used to it and you'll develop thicker, tougher skin
Put a pillow on the ground until you get used to the movement. You’re welcome
Yep, I’m a dumb jiu jitsu guy that does this. Always hurting my knee, always killing my shot.
THIS.
I can do that but with being active and faints im completely exhausted in like 20 seconds 😢
This actually helped thank you
You don’t want to enter the shot upright, you’re easy to stuff, you want to get upright when you get to the legs
What about for practicing it?
Cancel that with a dash and you've got an easy wavedash
Bro taught us how to slide cancel
You’re getting 0 explosion from your trail leg which is essentially killing your shot before you even take it. This is not good form, sorry.
Spread Glutes Not Racisms❤️💯
