Jesse, Besides the money you saved on delivery, you're also able to keep the ICF's clean and dry by only offloading what you need for a given work day. Very smart!
Hey Jesse, to help slow down the rusting and protect your trailer a little. Take a gallon pump sprayer fill with diesel and spray any and all your rims and trailer beams. It will slow the rust down until you can paint or even replace them when fail. My Late uncle show that old trick to me years ago and had help me survive the salt cover road of Michigan for years.
I've got to say Jesse, you're becoming quite the nice documentarian, your video selections and narrations really give viewers well rounded insight into your story.👍
I used to live in NW Massachusetts and I did a lot of miles on the Pike. I miss the Northeast. This was fun. Thanks for sharing. I learn something new every video.
Just you made a great deal on that trailer and definitely going to save you money and you can make money after you build your house ICF houses so I definitely believe in what you did I think that's a great idea okay this is Bob from Vero Beach Florida God bless and have a great day
You're a thinking man Jesse! Always thinking about the future and planning. You rarely will go wrong being prepared. That truck and trailer were good investments!
good call on replacing the rivets with nuts and bolts. I've seen a few collapsed trailers where they tried to repair them with hollow pop rivets. Nobody seems to realize that the skin of the trailer is stressed and used to take some of the load. Those rivets have a lot of shear stresses on them when you have a load on the trailer.
Thanks for another great video Jesse, that trailer is a great purchase, see if you can get some delivery work when you head out for the next collection to generate some cash.
It's interesting to see the differences between the US and Canada. In Canada you would make it to the first inspection station and never be seen again. :)
If he gets stopped by NY DOT there is no way he will be driving away. They will find stuff to put him out Of service in a heartbeat. That’s why he mentioned it because he knows it himself
@@MookieMan1 He'll absolutely be put out of service. Those trailer wheels are shot. Did you see the delamination? When you have layers of delam falling off the wheel, you should be placed out of service.
@@MookieMan1 Most of that depends on the officer. It is possible to survive one of their roadside inspections. I did, and got a $100 bonus in the process. That made #4 (in a row) for that year.
@@pamike4873 A few thousands of metal rusting like that can look like a massive amount. The big things they usually look for are cracks and indications that the wheel is bent or loose, things that should be caught by a proper daily inspection.
Definitely a good deal on that trailer. Don't worry about cosmetics, cosmetics don't haul stuff! If it rolls, stops and don't leak, that's all that matters. Besides, it looks as good as the best trailer I ever owned!!
Thats good to hear. i really dont see alot of use for the trailer moving forward so there was not a need to get a better looking one. The lowboy I want to look good soon though
I've put some serious miles on that stretch of I-90. I was stationed in Groton, CT and came home to Saratoga county most weekends for over three years. Looking forward to seeing the house come together, keep up the great work.
Congrats on 100K subs. The trailer is a great asset. If you got the rig to pull it, the trailer is good to have. So many uses. Ya never know when it will come in handy.
looks like you have the docking routine figured out. It's nice to have a fairly easy spot to get into when you are unfamiliar with it. Some places dock with 6" between trailers, and you have to get cross wise to 4 lanes of traffic to get it in there. Not fun for a new guy on his first solo run. Empire Candle, in the Fairfax district of KCK is a fitting example of such a place. Places built in horse & buggy days (and outfitted for trucks ... in the 1930's) are a real treat 🙄 Yes, the appearance of your rig will make a difference. Keeping it clean and showing signs of recent work/maintainance even more. It tells them you are paying attention to the condition of the truck. One asset you may not have thought of ... having your son riding along on day trips. A smile and a wave from a child can do a lot to brighten their day. Even if you do get inspected, officers tend to be a lot more civilized when young'ns are about. Tend to be ... hopefully you won't find the exception to that.
G'day mate sweet deal on trailer all she needs now is to just pretty up the rims and the prime mover rims make a big difference .your a goer that's for sure best wishes buddy 👍👍🇦🇺🇦🇺
That's not too bad of a trailer, I've pulled one's in the past that were very sketchy. Trailer Tip: use a spray on rust converter on those slider lock pins, then use some motorcycle chain lube on the pivot points and especially the pins. Don't use heavy axel grease, in extremely cold temps it can hamper the movement of the slide locking system. Also keep some rubber bungee cords with you at all times for when the the slider handle will not unlock properly, take two of the rubber bungee cords, remove one of the hooks and slide that one onto the hook on the other bungee cord. Rap that around the handle and hook it too the frame somewhere, make sure it's a fairly tight pull on the handle and get back into the cab, set the brakes on the trailer and rock it back and forth, the pins should release. I know it sounds like a very obvious thing to do, but you would be very amazed how many driver's don't know this.
Sounds like a solid deal and I know it will look great when you get done fixing it up. All the best. Peace and good fortune and good health to you and your family. ❤
With the way you handled the acquisition of the truck along with getting your CDL, combined with the methodology behind the purchase of the trailer to use to get your ICFs, I'd say you've hit a grand slam. In this day and time it's critical to think outside the box unless you just have money to burn. WTG Jesse!
Had to be a very good buy for a trailer with hub pilot wheels, great brakes , decent tires and rear doors. A few minutes of touch up work and you have something very useful for a long time or to sell with no problems at all. Great investment 👍 🇺🇸🦅🌏⚓️🇺🇸
I think that was a very wise choice on the purchase, Jesse. Your idea of a little cosmetic cleanup on it are good, too and I'd suggest you might want to spray the underside of the trailer with Woolwax (like Fluid Film but better) - that'll stop that rust dead in its tracks! Wish I had discovered it years ago. Looking forward to the cleanups and repairs. Great music on the videos, BTW.
An interesting and enjoyable video Jesse. Great camera work by Pat, he picked up great details on reversing and around the doors. The truck is well worth sorting out and you are right about the D.O.T., if they see you making an effort they tend to leave you alone. Looking forward to seeing how these forms work out as in Ireland they would be a rarity. Great video, thanks for sharing.
Love that Eaton two speed splitter Jesse, it takes me back to the late 50s early 60s at Craddocks Transport, Westport, NZ. Trucks in those days were pretty much gasoline powered, hence, no exhaust brake as with a diesel.
Jesse! You sure got a great head on your shoulders. I have been watching you now for a couple of years. Buying the trailers and Tractor and hauling the supplies you need will save you big bucks. Those skids are worth dollars unless they are throw away ones. If you return them they should give you a few bucks back. Next time you have brake shoes sticking to the drums just put the air to them and take a hammer give the drums a few taps, they will let go.
I for one will be looking forward to the paint and polish of the fruit can. I have a lot of respect for those trucks. Were they not out there, a lot of guys starting in trucking would never get past the first trip. All the same pieces and parts make up a freightliner truck with some exceptions as to conveniences and chrome. I will save some of my usual line of tips on how to on this as you will be flooded with it anyway. I would of killed to have one of those power multipliers for getting rims off. Good luck with the rest of this venture
When you were backing up to free the stuck axle, it seemed to move back and forward on the frame quite a bit, might be worth checking the mounts and frame......
Not bad, I bought a trailer that 3 out of the 4 brakes were completely locked up, wouldn't release no matter how much hammering. Had to get it hauled and then air hammered the crap out of them back at my shop for them to finally pop.
All them supports under the trailers like the ones your drilling n putting bolts in Great Dane used to send them n big bundles of like 120 beams n we got dip galvanized them at AZZ galvanizing
Good Buy Jesse. I think a makeover for the truck and a wire wheel on the rims and some nice paint will make her look pretty again. Try to avoid attention of DOT at all costs. Money better spent on Truck.
I have that same 2 wheel dolly I bought for $19.99 from Lumber Jack before they went out of business. You can buy the entire wheel, tire and tube from Harbor freight for less than a tube from “Hummer Depot” (as my grandson calls it)😀

Great deal 👍🏻 Can't wait for the next upload, thanks
Not having the stress of having to unload and return a rental trailer straight away or keep paying for it is also good.
Yea I can keep these icfs out of the sun until I need them too
Sand blasting and painting those rims and a good wash job on the tires will help a lot. I’m an ex owner operator, and as long as it don’t look to ratty, they won’t bother you.
