- In this video, I replace the exhaust manifold...after many attempts to extract the old bolts. I also fix the hood and get the truck inspected and ready to replace the international 4700.

Yes I like this guy, because he’s not afraid to use a wrench. Over an impact wrench or a regular ratchet. As long as he does it right , don’t be afraid to turn a wrench.

You impressed me twice. First, how you got the manifold bolts out without throwing tools across the yard and having to bleep out every third word, I'll never know. Congrats on your extreme level of patience. Second, I didn't think there was any hope for rebuilding that hood and you managed to pull that off as well. Nice work.

You are such a good father to your kids. I love seeing that you take the time no matter how busy you are to play with them, teach them how to do things, or let them help you do work. Reminds me of good memories with my father when I was growing up.
Don't take these moments for granted because they are only young once. The next thing you know you blink and they are all grown up.
Growing up, stepdad thought that some tools were just too dangerous for us kids... no welder... or grinders.... Sure we knew what a wire wheel was, and a plumbers butane torch... but we couldn't try the weld a nut on solution... it was drill it out and retap every time. I am so glad to see you teaching your kids and letting them participate. I really REALLY wish someone had the patience to teach us welding earlier... I was 25 before I knew a grinder or a welder.
I had to pause the video at 4:18 and give you a thumbs up for your beautiful little driver. What a delightful smile. OK, back to the show.
Truck repair/ mechanical videos, are my thing. House building, excavating, plumbing, stuff like that I don't watch, but you do a good job on these repair vids.

Man, I think I was more excited to see that last exhaust bolt come loose than even you. I was hootin' and a hollarin' out loud when I saw it really start turning. Didn't have much room left for welding it. SWEEET!

The secret to removing a stud after welding a nut on, is to walk away and let it cool. When you come back odds are good it will back right out.

Well the fiberglass saved money and this one is done for while.. It such a great job you can’t tell it.. As for the exhaust manifold you were lucky to find the right part and all is good.. Great video. Keep it going forward..☺️👍
Great video Jesse! For areas where you need to put fiberglass with no backing, I usually put aluminum sticky tape on the back side - it sticks to the surrounding area and has some rigidity to keep its shape until the fiberglass solidifies.

You had a lot of perseverance in getting your outcome and you did a wonderful job
After welding the nut on quench the bolt threads with 3 n 1 or cutting oil till it stops smoking. Then you'll stop breaking the nut off. It's because the bolt has expanded in the hole and lubrication has been burned off it needs to be cooled off and re lubricates.👈😎👍 Hint WD40 doesn't work. 😍👉Awesome job on the body work and fixin the old girl up.

Well impressed with the Fender/hood/ light house repair Jesse. I love that you keep your videos real. Anyone can throw money at a problem or get someone else to fix things if they have lots of dosh.Most of us cannot afford that luxury and its great to see someone with real talant and a great skill set making it happen for themselves. I was very similar as a young man. Now I'm nearly 70 and I dont have money issues any more but - old habbits die hard. Looking forward for thenext one 👍🗽
thanks. yea even if you have the money it is nice to brush up on things when you can because you never know when you will be stuck on the side of the road where money and a cell phone might not do much for you

6/18/22..just watched you do 2 very different but absolutely necessary projects: replaced yur exhaust manifold- incurring many frozen bolts 🔩 but overcoming the welded-like conditions of those bolts...then saw you sclupt/fiberglass & bondo-shape the right front headlight housing...matching the undamaged left side ! You are a man of many talents, great to watch you tackle your project with minimal supervision from your beautiful kids..that little red head of yours trying to drive & reach for that air horn strap...very warm & wonderful to see you bring them into these videos...Great stuff Jesse! This particular video, I could nitpick a few things on the front end repair, but, probably things happened off camera.... You got there in the end, and it looks 92% good, in the video shots you showed..... WAY better than most attempts I've seen..... For a non professional, working in his gravel driveway, with aerosols, I'd call it amazing....

Lil fella walking up with a boot on his foot and one on his hand was hilarious. We used to cut and mold headlight panels out of older 80s vehicles and mold them into work truck hoods thats been busted out, had an old Brockway with a mid 80s Pontiac Bonneville headlight buckets in it. Worked great and later put LED outer high/low beam and off road LED flood lights on the inner lights for late night open road deer spotters

having just pulled and fought with a rusty exhaust manifold myself today, That's a heroic effort you've made. arguably one of the worst jobs on any salt belt vehicle, the combo of heat and rust practically welds the parts together.
You are a master Jesse. Anything you do , you do with pride n precision. One request for this truck for now. Even a short video. 2 cans of black paint and wirebrush for the bumper and some silver paint for the steps. Truck looks awesome. Once you take those daytons off this truck is a keeper for life with regular maintenance.

New studs are cheap, so are new gaskets. Doing it right the first time saves doing it a second and third time
those studs are $17 a piece and they said a few weeks to get them. gaskets same thing. It wasnt the money that stopped me it was the time
@@jmuller86 An aftermarket stud kit and some Fel Pro gaskets are always a good thing, with plenty of copper coat. Smile

I admire your persistence in pursuing the welded nut method of bolt extraction. You must keep a large supply of nuts on hand.
Sometimes when trying to get a short broken stud out I weld a washer on first and then weld a nut to the washer it's easier to get a strong weld on it with better penetration, CHEERS I love the longer vids...

Great fiberglass work Jesse! I remember making my first set of speaker pods with epoxy and t-shirts.
You've got to get a mini angle grinder and some follow disc. Every where fiberglass or bond goes has to ground. When you put fiberglass on paint it just comes loose.
I'm not criticizing I applaud your effort. Get your self a DA sander and a viking air file and a mini vike.
I'm old and I learned a long time ago sometimes you just have to have the right tools.

Nice job on the hood. I will admit that I was a bit skeptical at first but it turned out great.
I shouldn’t be watching you battle broken manifold studs i should be down in the barn getting the one last broken off manifold bolt out of the crv, its such a royal pain. It’s inspiring to see a master of patience tho. I’m also in the middle of reading that book Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. In the section about Gumption he talks about how necessary it is to walk away once a hang up or set back has started to drain you of your gumption. Persig says the internal setbacks involve Value traps, Muscle traps, and truth traps. The external setbacks involve out of sequence reassembly, intermittent failure, and parts problems. So many a ha moments in there. Stuff you definitely dealt with before but never heard it put together like that. Really cool. Great work as usual

Jesse I gave you hell once about your music montages everywhere. I have to tell you that this is some of the best editing (in my opinion) that you have done yet. The sound of the work with the kids and the animals in the background without the music is so great. Really, really well done, man. That repair work was extremely enjoyable to watch.
thanks. sometimes I want to fast forward alot so music is the only way to make it less awkward when the sound is gone.
