Agreed, I do enjoy watching a car refreshed in a good way. Mostly I enjoy full restomods, but I understand why that would take too much time and money to do often 😁
we watch a few shows on streaming services, but I rarely ever watch regular tv any more. So much is available on youtube and pepperbox, thats all I need.
Exactly! Parts add up very quickly. I’m fixing to start reviving my 81 Chevy Scottsdale pickup. Been sitting 18 years. Lot of cab work to do. When I parked it I had just put a rebuilt 350 with 350 hp. Hopefully the weather will cooperate soon. Can’t wait!
I absolutely love this stuff. My Dad was a mechanic his whole life ( self taught ) and he inspired me to learn how to fix cars too. He started his own business and built it around helping people for a fair price, not taking advantage of people. He named his business "Done Right Auto Repair". Nobody has ever heard of him before but he is a Legend. Sadly he passed away a few years back. He never got to see this show but I guarantee he would have LOVED it too. I just really appreciate what you do Derek, you are an inspiration to us all. Seriously Thank You.
Watching you two put an interior in together reminds me of the gold 70’ Chevelle back in Minnesota. Y’all ain’t changed a bit! Still the same good hearted people doing the same thing that got you to where you are now. I’m proud of you guys. The fame hasn’t changed you at all.
Just a bit of a tip if you are looking for black wood. Get a jar and put about 1/2 cup of vinegar and a roll of steel wool in and cap it off. Once the steel wool has dissolved you are ready (the finer the steel wool the faster this will happen). Dip a rag into the fluid and rub it slowly across the wood. It will probably only take an application or two to turn the wood a deep black. This is called Ebonizing. Good luck to you!
@@ViceGripGarage Another thing that works really well and is cheap, speedball india ink. Can get it at hobby lobby for just a few dollars. That makes a great wood stain.
I appreciate the fact that Derek provides us content while staying at home with the family during the Holidays. Thank Derek! These are just as good as revivals btw, wish everyone would understand!
Your message at the end is why your channel is so good and so many corporate efforts have failed. Always love your down to home honesty and relatability. Hope to give you a hearty handshake sometime when you're down in Bradenton should the planets align. From one old mechanic to another, thank you.
Seeing these old square body Chevy revivals takes me back. I'm a ford OBS truck guy now but, my first vehicle I ever had when I got my license at 16 was an 85 K10 Scottsdale with a 305. Square body Chevys are as american as apple pie. This brings back so many memories of my youth. I'm only 41, but seems so long ago. The girlfriends, parties, learning experiences I had in that truck. Thanks for keeping another one roadworhy for another 20 years. I may go back to a squarebody at some point.
Unfortunately I recently lost my mother. And of course it's been sad around here, but you just can NOT watch Derek and be left in a bad mood. Thank you vgg for all your time hard work and dedication
43:55 hey Derek! “Expert” woodworking tip here- alcohol based leather dye works phenomenally. I’ve used it on some guitars in the past. Most of the name brand stains, like valspar, don’t have a good black (or even a nice dark one, my coffee is darker than it for Pete’s sake!) but an alcohol based black leather dye will make that grain darker than the molasses used in actual grain!
Great idea, I bet it'll work. Gel Stain is another option as well. I used General Finishes on the Kitchen table I built, but it may not be available locally. You can layer it to get a more specific color or darkness. Dyeing would probably be the quick and easy way though.
My dad had a late 70’s, yellow 2wd Suburban that he used for logging and storing his tools in. He also taught me to drive in that rig. The thing I remember most was the heater that would melt your hands and feet if you weren’t careful. It was awesome!
A good solid basic work truck is a satisfying thing of beauty, and this one is just that. Thanks for taking us along for the ride, Derek and Bieri family!
I think this is the only channel I will sit through a 3 plus hour of video. Derek, your videos are very enjoyable to watch, even if I already know how to do what I’m watching. Sorry about your job loss with motor trend. But this means I’ll be able to watch you more often right here.
"Inspiration and hope." Derek is a great student. Kevin told him this was one of the more important things he was taught to remember to help and motivate people. This video is a masterful expression of this desire and a wonderful homage to a great teacher. I have always been an all or nothing guy and because of that, I no longer have a great project to play with. I hope I listen as well as Derek and enjoy the process to the destination as told through a great teacher. Great video!
I really appreciate how you and Jessica refurbish stuff and don´t just throw new parts at the truck. Makes the truck more genuine and retains its personality. Kudos. 👍
When I redo clusters, especially Chevy of this era, I spray the faces with clear coat. I have found the letters and numbers turn into powder on some, and you touch it, it is gone. So clear coat seals them in place. Outside of that I do everything else the same. I also replace the bulbs for good measure and clean the contact pads and shoot a little lube into the speedo where the cables comes in and spin it with a screw driver to get things freshened up.
not only a great video with a lot of good common sense ideas but truly a heartfelt truthful message at the end. remember,if your not moving your feet, your not going forward. need to put that on a shirt
I remember my dad purchased a 76 gmc 1/2 ton, 6 cyl, 3 on tree standard, 2x4, vinyl everything. New in 1976 for 3500$ canadian love the sq bodies. Love your show. Happy new year to you and your family.
Remington is my all time favorite project of VGG! The same year and model of the farm truck I learned to drive in, hauled countless wagons of hay and silage, cattle trailer and gravity boxes of corn to town with, and feed home from town in. Truly was/is the "heartbeat of america" IMO!
I love how Remmington looks now. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time! It's the little things done here and there that can really bring an old rig back to life. Thanks Derek for showing us how easy it can be done, by doing a little bit at a time!
You know your message at the end there is a real gem. The 73 dodge in my picture is my project. Bought it back in 2017 and didn't get to do a whole lot with until recently. Thought about selling it a few times but never could leave it posted for sale even though I had a lot of interest in it everytime. Now I just got a complete brake system put in it. New Master, rear drums and shoes and all that, converted it to front disc with parts from an 87 dodge, and even got to try my hand at running all new hand made brake lines. Now I'm about to get the stuff to rebuild an edlebrock I picked up for it so it will get a 4 barrel swap, then it's on to exhaust. Interior and body work will be the real challenge but man I'm having fun tinkering with it. This old stuff is so much more fun than modern automotive repair. I know because that's how I am funding this truck haha. I would like to end up in a situation like yours one day. A classic automotive repair/restore/sales type of deal. These things are just too much fun.
I had Jackman wheels and Norseman tires best mud and snow tire ever. I have look forever for another set. Thank you Derek letting me know about re pops.
Remington is one of my favorite trucks Derek has, followed by the cat farm crew cab, blue 81 GMC Sierra grande k15, and the recent two the Saratoga silver and frost gloss white 78 Chevy C10 Silverado and the 75 Chevy k20 Cheyenne super Hawaiian blue and frost gloss white i used to have a 79 Chevy k10 Scottsdale long bed with the same paint scheme factory..

I m not a chevy guy what I like about the truck it has a 4 speed manual and you done a great work on the inside of the truck really looks good and the wheels looks good
I've been using the appliance paint for years on dashes. I have found that it works best with lots of thin coats. I will lightly fog it, wait 3-5 minutes and repeat.
Thanks Jessica for keeping the Bieri boys in line, and thanks Derek and fellers for keeping us entertained every Friday+. Glad to have you good folks bringing us good wholesome content for another year.
I’m sure Derrick won’t ever see this, but it might help some of y’all. When he starts trying to do the chrome ring around the dash cluster cover at 54:04, it looks a lot better and is a lot easier if you buy chrome paint markers. You can use a fine tip and they’re one of the only things that turn out looking chrome, most other things just look silver and dull.
Derek, I had the same truck. bought it in the 90s and decided to give it to my brother it was a great way for a feller to move most anything from one place to another. Miss that ol rig !
Hey Derek, just a trick about painting the bezel silver, while on the inner web I saw this trick , just use silver sharpie pen , works great, easy and cheap. Keep up the good work .
Working on that bezel, sharpie makes a metallic silver marker, that looks awesome, and if you spray your Bezel black, use the sharpie to replicate your silver trim, and then clear over the top, it looks brand new If you mess up with the sharpie, you can wipe it off with alcohol and start over, but it’s really easy to do with the fine tip that it gives you I figured a guy would bleed bloop that for a feller.
Growing up my dad had an 81 C10 Custom Deluxe, dark brown and the same brown dash and tan interior. We put a lot of miles on that truck cruising dirt roads and back roads in Northeast Georgia, and seeing this interior come together has a feller feeling a certain nostalgia tonight. Thanks, Derek.
I have an 81 Scottsdale I’m working on at the moment. It was my first vehicle that I bought back in 91. I’m the second owner. Originally had 123 k on it. I’ve got over 450k now it. The old 305 cam lobes went flat. So threw in an old 78 350 with 350 hp. What a difference it made. That 305 grandpa motor was tired! 😊 it did go another300 k . Can’t complain too much. I’ve only broke down maybe 3 or 4 times, if that many. These old trucks are super reliable! As long as you maintain them for the most part. I change my oil religiously.
It's awesome how much love you put into these projects, my wife now wants to help me recover my 78 F100 seat this spring! I did start yelling at my tv when a feller was trying to get the tire off lol, the bead wasn't pushed far enough into the drop out to let it come off. But that's one of the things I really respect about you, you are a real human doing things like the rest of us and learning as you go!
Glad I'm not the only one that uses rivets. My floor had a few holes were the driver's heel rests. I used a heat shield removed from one of our racing lawnmower to form to the floor and seam sealed, riveted and the box linered over top of the patch panel.
It doesn’t matter what you’re doing I always enjoy your videos! I enjoy the rescue-drive home & the shop videos the best, but I really wanted to say my hats off to you for your humor, consistency & Love for your family, friends & country! Well done! Thank you!
Fantastic content as usual. We appreciate the hard work with not only the revivals but also the editing of so many videos on a regular basis. A feller is making the world go 'round. As the great philosopher Joe Dirt once said: "Life's a garden: dig it."
Thank you sir for sharing your toys and your life with us. My boys and I have been following you for many years. We are not in the US, but we enjoy what you do. Thank you again.
The other truck that was a gm square body i like of Derek's there's two that primer grey 78 GMC Sierra, and the green 79 Chevy c20 0l regular cab long bed stepside
And then there's a red crew cab like 1990-91 Chevy dually he has in Minnesota it's in the 75 Chevy k20 Cheyenne super Hawaiian blue and frost gloss white revival video
Derrick, I have watched you for a couple now, never commented. I enjoy the way you present everything, the process you take to repair, and getting these great old cars on the road where they belong. Even learned a couple things along the way. Keep up the great work.
Great message at the end of the video Derek. I just recently put new carpet in my 94 Isuzu Amigo and it really turned the truck around ride comfort wise. It has taken six years just to do this upgrade. I'm going to use your tip on the foam for my captains seat. Every good thing takes time, thanks for another great video!
dang bro! You shouldn't be breathing that spray and metal dust! People watch this might think it's ok to breathe it! great work as always, just concerned about your long term health and thought it's worth mentioning.
Hear that, love how this feller can make you fall in love with any of his clean ups. The last one , the silver Chevy was fun watching it come to life and yes I would kill for a truck like that one for my collection.
I grew up with my Dad buying 2 brand new square bodys and it was the first vehicle i learned to drive. love seeing you working on them. brings back some good memories and makes me want to get another.
i really wish people had not traded there older cars in, in the uk when the scrappage scheme was unvailed .. it really made it hard to get a rescue case older vehicle for cheap.. im glad that you can still get parts for older vihicles in the USA it makes a difference :) great show Dereck :)
So nice that Jessica is right there beside you working. Having a supportive spouse is so wonderful. You guys are great! Thanks for sharing your adventures on youtube!
Going to be starting my own square body truck this summer. These videos are so motivating because i don't necessarily want to spend thousands but still want it to look nice. Thanks for these!!
Man your videos have made me determined to rescue my grandpa's 1989 dodge d150 so happy for all the family content you make my kids and wife can always watch your videos thanks again Derrick
53:40 they makes chrome or silver pen/marker that you can literally do that bezel chrome in seconds and looks great. It’s in the arts and crap section at Walmart. Find anyone wearing blue they can show you where they hide them
Thank you sir for another great video and thank you for the special message at the end. Some of us need to hear it. We need the push to finish up our projects!
I had the same wobble on a set of factory wheels on my BMW 325 and what it turned out to be was a tiny concentric ring left from the previous aftermarket wheels. Because the aftermarket wheels had been on so long the ring just became part of the hub and you couldn’t really see it. Once the rings were discovered and removed the factory wheels seated and the wobble went away.
Best part of the weekend starting is a new Vice Grip video dropping. Watching while I get my 92 SVX fired up for the first time in 5 years. Never give up on them!
@@ViceGripGarage Update: It's alive! Purring like it was parked a week ago. Watching your vids really helped make it go as smoothly as possible. I can't thank you enough.
That Appliance Epoxy is probably the best paint I've ever used for longevity on parts. I painted a trailer tongue a few years ago with that and it still looks like I just painted it. The rest of the trailer I used regular black and it's all faded out and looks rough. So, use it the next time you have to paint something and you'll be impressed! Looks like the best place to find a wobble pop holder for the bench seat is Amazon these days!! That is a really good makeover! The truck looks absolutely perfect for a good shop truck!!! She dolled real nice!! AWESOME video as usual Derek!!! GOD bless y'all!!!
The first time I worked on the interior of my 67 Mercury Cougar XR7, I used rattle can semi gloss black paint, Testor's gloss silver paint, and gloss rattle can silver paint. Got a cheap auto carpet pad from Walmart and cut it to cover the worn out dash pad and "Bam" new interior. Darek, you are correct, one does not need to spend alot of money to make your car look good. Keep up these great video's and Blessings to you and your family.
Dang it, Derik... I saw those wheels in the thumbnail and immediately thought, "Ooohhh someone is making old-school spoke wheels?" Nope. Read the words. Love the vintage wheel choice!!! 🫤 😊
That went well, & it looks great! I'm sure that little things like this will improve the driving experience, even in a work truck. BTW, I'd like to extend my congratulations to Jessica! The very fact that she's given birth to 3 sons & still retained her girlish figure is a huge deal & is astonishing in my book. I've only witnessed that once before, with a lady that was our supervisor, & I was just as astonished she had 3 grown kids. It's always heartwarming how well you two work together, both working hard, & your love for one another. Well done, & thanks for sharing your content with us!
Life is like a dance. Sometimes you lead and sometimes you follow. Love the old sayings that are brought back to light from a simpler time. Hope you enjoyed your holidays and new year. Same with your followers. Always look forward to your videos, cheers Derek 🤙🏼
Hey Derek. I am glad you discovered the appliance epoxy. I have used it so much over the years. I actually painted an entire 1987 Firebird with the white. It levels so well. It is hard and shiny. It actually lasts well with the UV too. Good on you bro.
Many moons ago I had an 83 blazer. Midnight blue, had a 395 in it. Had it for 8 or 9 years, even repainted it in my garage. Wish I had it back. Loved that truck. Actually traded it for a 69 c10 short step side I spent 2-1/2 years restoring, had it for 10 years. Wish I coulda kept them all! Doing all the work myself and was very satisfying to say I did.
I stumbled across vice grip Garage whilst watching some car shows in the uk UA-cam, now I can’t switch this off. I’ve watch most of your content now. My wife said I’ve got a problem ha ha ha. Keep up the good work Derek 👍

@@DieselBadger60 thats the one! I was very happy with them. My 76 Monte Carlo has chrome edge on the gauge bezel and dash vents
Working on that bezel, sharpie makes a metallic silver marker, that looks awesome, and if you spray your Bezel black, use the sharpie to replicate your silver trim, and then clear over the top, it looks brand new
If you mess up with the sharpie, you can wipe it off with alcohol and start over, but it’s really easy to do with the fine tip that it gives you
I figured a guy would bleed bloop that for a feller.
I change my oil
religiously.
Never seen anybody else who knew about Jack man wheels!! I have an original set as well polished on my 79 f250!!! Got a feller fired up
Wish I could find a set...
Thank You Sir, for the wonderful episode of Vice Grip Garage. The 83 Square Body Chevy Farm Truck looks fantastic.
Derek i used a laquer pen paint pen to do mine. Great video. You only have to make yourself happy.
Thank you sir for sharing your toys and your life with us. My boys and I have been following you for many years. We are not in the US, but we enjoy what you do. Thank you again.
That Appliance paint works fantastic! We use it all the time and it holds up super well!
Your voice reminds me of Bob Ross just so calming and easy to listen to
Thanks Joe
He's the Bob Ross of the car world!
Will Ferrell 100 %
The other truck that was a gm square body i like of Derek's there's two that primer grey 78 GMC Sierra, and the green 79 Chevy c20 0l regular cab long bed stepside
And then there's a red crew cab like 1990-91 Chevy dually he has in Minnesota it's in the 75 Chevy k20 Cheyenne super Hawaiian blue and frost gloss white revival video
These budget dress'em ups right there in the shop are the best kind of videos
Thats a awesome looking fire chicken back there in the back 40 of the shop. Love the channel 🤘
Derrick, I have watched you for a couple now, never commented. I enjoy the way you present everything, the process you take to repair, and getting these great old cars on the road where they belong. Even learned a couple things along the way. Keep up the great work.
Years, couple years. Lol.
Friend of mine in college taught me to use nail polish to highlight basil rings and pinstripes, easy to remove and tons of colors to choose from
Glad to see I’m not the only one who struggles with steering wheel installation, you gotta be a wizard to get those on the first time
I had to use a pry bar to get it on the first time!
FYI. Clamp the rim from the outside on the bottom. It makes it so the rim won't slip or come off the clamps like it did.
Vice Grip's Friday uploads are always the best way to wrap the work week and relax watching... God Bless!
Your message at the end summed it up perfectly! A little goes a long way! My kind of channel!
I love watching old trucks or cars. Thank you for being it back to life. Give it a second chance.
I like how the shop lion is always close by doing quality control 😊
He makes sure things are done right!
😂😂😂 right!! He’s the boss man!!
I could watch Derek all day, but this channel gets even better when the little humans and or the lovely human helps out.
I like it also when the family gets involved
Hear that, love how this feller can make you fall in love with any of his clean ups. The last one , the silver Chevy was fun watching it come to life and yes I would kill for a truck like that one for my collection.
I grew up with my Dad buying 2 brand new square bodys and it was the first vehicle i learned to drive. love seeing you working on them. brings back some good memories and makes me want to get another.
Hi Derek, this is one of the better episodes very enjoyable.😂
I’m wetting the inside of my neck. Great video folks. So enjoyable. You’re all inspiring
Appreciate the kind words, and thanks for watching!
Spending my birthday watching a rattlecan rebuild. What a great day !
Cheers! 👍🏻🍻
I’m getting ready to fix up a 78 2wd pu and a 78 ¾ ton suburban. Learning a lot about square body design
i really wish people had not traded there older cars in, in the uk when the scrappage scheme was unvailed .. it really made it hard to get a rescue case older vehicle for cheap.. im glad that you can still get parts for older vihicles in the USA it makes a difference :) great show Dereck :)
Great episode. Love the message at 1:50:58. A truly wonderful channel.
Putting the horn on at the end killed me. Thanks for countless hours of laughter.
'It's raining like cows and parrots out there!' Wonderful! Happy New Year and thank you to all at VGG!
20 minutes until bath time for my grandson, Perfect timing!
Find anyone wearing blue they can show you where they hide them
Went looking for that section, only found 'craps and farts' 😅
I’ve seen him use a silver sharpie before and do that
Thank you sir for another great video and thank you for the special message at the end.
Awesome!
@@ViceGripGarage Update: It's alive! Purring like it was parked a week ago. Watching your vids really helped make it go as smoothly as possible. I can't thank you enough.
This is the kind of thing that brings joy to my heart.
Glad you like it!
U got an awesome rat catcher 5000 there bierris!!
Said it before and I’ll say it again, nobody’s dropping more automotive content than this fella.
Dang it, Derik...
I saw those wheels in the thumbnail and immediately thought, "Ooohhh someone is making old-school spoke wheels?"
Nope.
Read the words.
Love the vintage wheel choice!!!
🫤 😊
Thanks!
The new style white spokes just don't do it like the old Jackman wheels.
Love ya man!
I loved a guy’s pep talk at the end. Inspiring! Can’t wait to get an interior refresh going in my 65 Bel Air 👌
Life is like a dance. Sometimes you lead and sometimes you follow. Love the old sayings that are brought back to light from a simpler time. Hope you enjoyed your holidays and new year. Same with your followers.
Always look forward to your videos, cheers Derek 🤙🏼
I dig the revivals, but I've really enjoyed the last couple weeks Derek! I like seeing them old trucks get refreshed! Keep up the great work!
Appliance epoxy is great stuff, I used some to paint the fork legs on an old motorcycle, even with no front fender it held up great.
Another great video , and your right we all get caught up with it has to be mint but thats a sweet looking ride. Happy new year to you and your family
I stumbled across vice grip Garage whilst watching some car shows in the uk UA-cam, now I can’t switch this off. I’ve watch most of your content now. My wife said I’ve got a problem ha ha ha. Keep up the good work Derek 👍
