As an old forester who knows trees and wood those are the most beautiful spalted maple cabinet fronts I have seen. I am sure you have your eye out for another dead and down maple tree for your ICF kitchen. I made kitchen cabinet doors, raised panel, and drawer fronts out of Black Walnut trees from the farm 40 years ago. Love your channel!!

Jesse.. I tend to watch your videos mostly to see your ability to fix equipment…. Your mindset of anything is possible impresses me the most. That said, this video of you sharing a bit of your life story is very helpful to understand who you are and where you’ve been. Often, some of the other channels stay away from showing the private stuff… Unwilling to share and open up. You will do great things in life, you have a beautiful family and the opportunities will come!

It’s more work to renovate and rebuild a house or garage than to build a new garage or house because you demo and build back when a new construction home is just built! No demo! I renovate old houses in Wayne County Michigan for 30 plus years and work a full time job 100 hours every 8th day! The work will after 40 years break you down so be safe and always have two extra hands for extra safety!

Jesse, enjoyed the video. Watched you build the addition and heating system in the basement. I’ve watched you, Andrew, your parents in the NY area for a long time, I guess back when AC was starting his castle. I was married in 66, money was short, lived payday to payday. Like you I learned as I went never paying anyone to do anything without trying it first. My cousin built a chimney on the back of our house, I had dug a basement by hand and then build a wood stove to heat house and domestic water. It was a hard life but we enjoyed it. I worked she reared the 2 children and later helped rear our one granddaughter. Today kids want everything but don’t think about the cost for interest. They don’t want wait until they can save the money or build as they get the money. I’m waiting each week for the video on your new house. I’m not able to do any of this work but I enjoy watching others do it. I’ll be commenting again take care, Stay Safe.

My first house was a disaster, although my dad was able to help me buy it, and loan me some money for materials to beat it into shape. I had a completely different sort of full-time job as a scientist at a government lab, but every weekend and night, for years, I worked on the house, and learned carpentry, plumbing, wiring (thanks to a very tolerant building inspector, who recommended some books after he saw the mess I made on my first try!), concrete work, and a few other things. But then I got married, and my wife wanted to move to Silicon Valley, so we hired all the remaining jobs done, and then sold the house (giving my dad the profit, even though he wanted me to keep it, so he got a reasonable return on his loan). After that, my salary (and my hours at work) went up so much, we just hired everything done. Now I'm almost 70, retired, and instead of redoing a bathroom or pouring a patio, I watch videos of people doing those things. It's not as satisfying, but it's easier on my back...

Great work on that house. That kitchen is really nice. What surprises me about houses in America in general is the lack of privacy or fencing. Your neighbors can just look in and see everything if they wanted. In Australia, especially Melbourne privacy is everything. Tall fences that don't have gaps separate every property. I wouldn't enjoy going into the backyard knowing that like 6 houses can see everything you do lol.

I have had to struggle like your first startup when I first got married. Struggling just to make enough for the family!! And my First and Second house were the big learning curves for me as well!
It seems to be a great privilege to build a new home from the ground up in the same area as your Mom and Dad!! Super great to see you prioritizing Family as you have been!!! All the best from Surrey BC Canada.

Making our kitchen cabinets from rustic hickory we milled on our Wood Mizer sawmill. A great feeling to go from tree to final form.
    Your spalted Maple looks awesome
