  • Today I share the details and fittings we used to combine our 2 RV sewer outlets to one and eliminate the need to move the hose or have a Y in the connection to empty all the tanks. Simplifying the setup process and saves time emptying the tanks is a great idea in my opinion.

    I just took a trip with our new 5th wheel and I had originally thought to myself that having additional galley drain was no big deal, man it sucks!, I thought to myself why did they not just connect the 2 together, your modification is awesome and your video is even better!!, great content, right to the point, very clear and easy to understand

    A couple weeks ago I did a combining of our rear Graywater into the front Graywater sewer line.
    I love it, no longer do I need to connect to one drain, empty it, then move my rig forward and dump the rear tank. It took some doing, but I was able keep my Grey separated from the Black. So now, I hook up one drain line, dump the Black, then dump the Grey for flush out. This is something the factory should do. If I were to do it from the start, it would add 10' of pipe and about 4 fittings. Whereas, doing this as a refit took the same amount of pipe, but way more fittings as some of the existing had to be cut out and replaced for the combining. I was able to get the proper fall. If you have two Gray tanks, do yourself a favor, and combine them.

    Another way to check the fall is with a level. If you have at least a 1/2 to full bubble of fall, that should be enough. One suggestion I might make because of the length where it comes down and out of the frame would have been to put on a junction with a clean out cap so if for some reason a clog happened, it would make an easy way to clean the clog using a pipe snake. Especially if that extra run comes off of the kitchen because of possible grease buildup over time.
    One thing to keep in mind when passing over the axle, pay attention to how much travel the suspension has when hanging the pipe underneath like this because if it hangs too low, the axle could break the pipe if the suspension travels too far. To check it you could pile up a few blocks and pull one set of wheels up on the blocks if you have tandems until the suspension hits the stop and measure how much space you have between the top of the axle and the bottom of your camper. You don't want to accidentally break off the pipe in cases of extreme suspension travel because it can happen quite often when pulling in and out of spaces in the event the tire drops off into a ditch.

      Reading your post I have a few questions. First the clean out, if I was to add a clean out prior to the bend towards the axels, what will prevent the water from sitting in that area?
      2, how much room in general would I need to be above the axels?
      Thanks, plan on doing this in the next few weeks.

    Great idea and plan this myself. One thing to consider regarding the required slope for proper drainage, if you're at a dump station and still on your truck, you may not be able to dump the rear gray tank. Or at least, not fully. OTOH if you don't have the slope, you can still do this mod but just lower the landing gear to dump the rear.
    Another method for this I have considered is using a macerator pump to pump the rear gray tank into the black tank as a flush. You could use flexible hose rather than rigid plumbing so no slope would be required.

    Hi Jared,
    Hope you don’t mind me asking a lithium battery question. I recently purchased a 100 amp hour battle born 12 V battery as well as another 200 amp 12 V battery as I live in Florida and I’m kind of trying to do an emergency system in case of a power outage due to hurricane or grid problem. I also recently purchased the inergy flex system w/extra battery for running my rv which we stay in a couple weeks at a time on our property in NC. My question is even though I know switching my RVs lead acid marine battery to the battleborn lithium won’t be ideal for charging for to maximum...Do you think it will harm the battery long term as I think it will easily cover our 12v needs at the trailer even without using the flex system. Sorry for the long explanation

    Being so knowledgeable about all things RV -- I love your videos -- would you happen to know the actual ingredients of "Happy Campers Extreme Holding Tank Cleaner?" I bought a container and am trying it out in our RV but, curiously, nowhere on the label, or on their website, do they list the ingredients. They simply describe it as "organic," "biodegradable," and "environmentally friendly." Some people say it's nothing but high-priced Trisodium Phosphate (TSP). 16 oz of TSP at Lowes costs $5. The 18 oz of "Extreme" I got on Amazon cost me $34. Wonder if you or anyone in your community might know what this white powder actually is. Thanks.

    I've got a Lance 1081. It comes with both tanks combined. Problem with mine is the grey water valve cable is pretty long so I don't get a full open and I don't think it closes all the way because I have a slow leak between dumps that collects in the dump valve cap. I've wanted to get video of what it looks like when it opens and closes. I wonder if the Kaiser proctology dept could help me out with that. Even if you don't put grease down the drain, you can still get a buildup because you can't stop all grease from going down because you always have residual grease. Jared, thank you--so many of your videos have been helpful to me! I'd love to combine the two sewer outlets on my Grand Design, but I'm not sure it's feasible. I've measured as you suggested, and I only have 1/8" of fall per foot (2 inches across a 16' span). Do you think this may still work, or am I out of luck?

    I noticed you moved the sewer hose storage to the back could youd do a video on where you mounted it. I need to move mine too but I'm a little nervous on finding the right spot. Love the videos!

      John it’s super easy. Order the rec pro rv off Amazon. The under belly of the rv has a frame that looks like a capital I. Stretch out the pipe that’s expandable, get you some stainless steel screws , pre drill and attach.

    How much clearance is needed over the axle for the pipe ? I'm doing this now and to get the fall I need , I've only got about 4 inches . Not sure if that's enough .

    Our Reflection has a 2nd half bath and two dumps. The front dump handles two gray tanks and the black tank while the back dump is for the outside kitchen and the half bath sink and toilet. Unless we didn't use the half bath toilet, I wouldn't be comfortable using 2" ABS pipe. Would your RV have had enough fall using the full size pipe that is factory installed or is that why you used the 2" pipe?

    • @Sparkin8r
      @Sparkin8r 3 роки тому +1

      On this Refection the back tank is just grey. You can see at 1:48 in the video that the pipe is 2" coming out of the tank. (It is even a 2" valve at the tank.) Then it goes to 3" for the connection to the hose. I hope that helps see the differences.

      @billb6121 3 роки тому +1

      Mine has a half bath in back too. Might look and see about the tank connection. See no reason why if it all fits, use 3" pipe and replicate.

      @@johnnyg8391 You have to find the bumpstops and see how close they are to the frame and then measure the distance. If you have a tandem axle, you could probably build something up that's high enough to reach the full travel of the walking beam and put one set of tires up on it to see how close the axle gets to the frame when it reaches the bumpstop.

    Where did you get the gray spray foam. I just finished taking the whole belly pan out of my 2016 303RL Reflection and redoing everything from wiring to plumbing because one of the slide motors went out. From the factory, it’s a rat nest underneath. Like your videos and love doing upgrades like you do. Also waiting on your update on the multi plus 2. We love Boondocking. Already have lithium batteries and was getting the multi plus 1 when I saw your video. Put it on hold until I see what you have to say about it. Our rig is 50amp and this would be a perfect upgrade. Bought a progressive dynamics lithium charger for now. Keep the videos coming. Thanks for the info.
