I love Gary but 1. He hasn't had hair problems his whole life. His hair lived a better life than a lot of mens' do, he had very nice hair up until a few years ago when he lost it all very fast, there vids of him on the channel with full hair i believe. 2. Hair isn't his life goal, he's a general plastic surgeon who performs other procedures as well i believe, he's just a great spokesperson for hair loss and being comfortable with yourself.

I almost had a hair transplant as a kid, to cover scars from brain surgery, but the surgeon decided against it. He never said why he changed his mind, but 15 years later I literally just realized it was because the only spots that were permanently bald were that way because of a MRSA infection. Not exactly a good idea to do surgery on a little girl who's recovering from massive injuries /and/ was high risk for MRSA. I'm 25 now, and the bald spots are still shiny, and often noticeable- when my immune system decides to do thin it out or my hair is just greasy, but they don't bother me at all. I'm the type of person who thinks scars are cool, and great conversation starters. And yet I have a massive insecurity of my perfectly fine nose... shows how weird the brain is when it comes to judging your own body.
@@papasmurf9205 yet there are things about my body that I would love to have changed. Like my nose, my thighs, the asymmetry of my chest, and other things. I just find it amusing how odd the brain is with prioritizing insecurities. Some people might be missing an arm, but they'd sooner have a burn scar on their leg removed than grow their arm back. Some people freckles are the worst thing the world has ever done to them, while they love their big silly nose.
@@xnellyxs1 pff, that would be amusing. But I've hated my nose since long before my skull got crushed in. My bald spots are a badge of honor for surviving multiple experiences that should have killed me, within a 6 months time span. Combined, it really is an insane miracle I pulled through. The only significance to my nose is my little dog bite scar, and while it is cute, it's technically underneath. I suppose I would probably lose it if I were to change my nose though... another reason not to do so.

He's undergoing treatment that makes the skin in his head very photosensitive (sensitive to light) so he is supposed to keep it cover most of the day until he completes treatment
I thought the doctor has Alopecia...because it looks like he has no hair!! No eye brows, and no eye lashes! Lots of celebrities have gotten some new hair..
Some will say no, especially in the case someone wants their entire face done (might be a criminal escaping and changing identity) or if they see their client is obviously mentally ill and addicted to it

I'm a female 32 I been blessed with extremely thick red hair that grows like wildfire. I haven't cut it since March 2019 and it's currently 45in long. I cut it once it gets to much for me and donate to charity. But a few years back my mom had an autoimmune illness that made her hair super thin and stringy. I cut 30 in off my hair and took it to a wig maker because she was born with my hair color too. So my mom had a wig she no longer has to die her hair or anything. I felt it was the least I could do to give back to my mom for raising me. I took care of her until she passed in Feb 2019. Then following native American tradition cut my hair to help with the grieving and honor her

You seem like you are a much more authentic and compassionate person than most plastic surgeons. I agree with you that it isn't a question of vanity, or at least not mostly about vanity, with everyone who elects to do it, as opposed to the quest to feel right. As someone who had a lot of trauma in childhood, my looks were something that gave me just enough self-confidence to keep going. At times it seemed like the only thing I had going for me in my life. So when I started to lose my hair in my late twenties I felt like my world was coming to an end. It compounded the anxiety and depression stemming from my childhood. When others would sometimes say it wasn't something important, they didn't realize that someone like me just can't shake the feeling that it's something akin to the feeling of not being able to brush your teeth before being thrust into a social world. Yeah, that wouldn't be "something important" per se either, but who could be at peace of mind and confident thinking that everyone thinks your breath smells like rotting garbage? If I ever do decide to do hair transplants, I'll probably make an appointment with you.
I'm 61, did hair transplants in my late 20's by top shelf at the time, Bosley in San Francisco. That inner voice yelled at me to get out of the chair just before the deed. I didn't listen. There are people who committed suicide because of botched transplants. Then there are people like my brother who inherited my Mother's side of the family - thick, full head of hair. What a waste of brain power I went through. My love life would've been better at the time if I had my confidence today and just owned it.
Shortly I'll be approaching a few transplant clinics and your videos are really preparing me for reading between the lines of what the surgeons will tell me. Based on what you've said, at the end of the day I will go for the one who is most honest and not the one who promises the moon. BTW, you are such an articulate, smart and charming guy, I think you would be a great guest on Joe's podcast.

I'm 34 and recently had a FUE hair transplant in Turkey, 4,600 grafts, still way too early to know the results but since then I've watched a few of your videos and realise that as my hair was always quite fine/ thin before and that it may not grow back very well and I wish I had been told that before

I use to eat regularly at a cafe on my lunch break few years back... Would oftentimes meet this guy at the cafe, nice - friendly guy, we'd chat often, he had an abnormally massive distinct scar on the back of his bald head, he had a limp, and very odd and his actions and his mannerism struck me as he may of had a brain injury, he mentioned he was in a motorcycle accident in the past and i just figured the accident was a result of the scar and limp... About a year into knowing him, we where randomly discussing hair transplants and he explained that how he received his scar... I then realised he didn't have a brain injury, he was just an awkward guy...
We can grow a human ear on the back of a mouse in the 1990s but cloning DHT-resistant hair follicles is somehow impossible? It sucks that alopecia has left many men with zero acceptable options.

My chin implant gave my face the balance it needed. Well done, looks natural and worth every penny I paid. The key is to get a plastic surgeon with a great sense of aesthetics and one who will be honest about expectations and outcomes. Mine interviewed me before discussing surgery to answer my questions, tell me what he could do well, and determine if I had realistic expectations. I appreciate him for that .
Dude, the clean look is badass on you. I felt better about my alopecia by watching a lot of Smallville/Lex Luthor/Michael Rosenbaum back in 2002 when my hair took a permanent vacation.
I bladed in my late 20s, did some medical therapy for a few years, then started shaving my head. Such a rush of relief to just embrace the bald look. The psychological games of following your thinning in the mirror, wondering if you are pulling it off, doubting it-getting rid of all that was the best part of shaving. That was not a battle I was willing to continue fighting, and it would be a lifelong battle if you go down the path of transplants and repeat transplants. I feel normal now, look great too. 💪🏽
Yeah, when you no longer can easily cover the thinning by cutting sides short and changing the combin direction just go bald. I started thinning on top and noticed it in my 25s. It's still ok but if and when it keeps progressing I'll just go bald. I refuse to play the games. I might get a transplant after 35 but no games.
I just shaved it all off at 25. I always knew the medication wasn't worth it, and after seeing the back of my head a few times on camera, I decided the time had come. Once you become truly bald, you are no longer defined by your blading.
I started thinning around 23-24, really got thin on top around 27-28. I started losing my hair at the temples with a more pronounced widow’s peak, then the crown accelerated around 29. I shaved it all off at 29 and never looked back. I wish I did it sooner.
I shave my head but my hair grows so fast i have to shave 3 times a week. My beard compliments my shaved head and my girl loves it but shaving sucks at times
I think you would look cool with a shaved head. When you took the hat off it reminded me a lot of Chester Bennington from Linkin Park. Especially with your glasses.
Its nice to see such an honest outlook on plastic surgery from a doctor who performs it. I was a bit dismayed with my experience. It wasn’t hair, but the doctor and office pretended the results were perfect and refused to admit the issue that resulted. Cosmetically there was some asymmetry which was a possibility i was made aware of and don’t mind as much, but the chronic pain I had was not supposed to a thing.
I have alopecia areata also and even though I’m female I shave my head and wear wigs. Folk said why didn’t I style my hair over the bald patches but I’d rather have it all shaved rather than trying to cover blad areas. It was a huge blow as I was struggling with medication induced obesity which took me from a size 6 U.K. to a size 16 in a matter of months. All in all I’ve been left as a bald Michelin Lady. Not good for self esteem.
You can regrow hair using hyperbarics, or I've heard that from people who got hyperbarics for other reasons... Hadn't grown hair for 15 years and all of a sudden started growing hair after 3 days of treatment
That sucks! I've had meds take me from a size 16 to a 24--Neurontin. My doc watched it happen, after back surgery. He never said a thing--should have told me what the pills did. I got food poisoning and could not keep the pills down, realized they never helped the pain & nerve problems, so I quit and started losing weight immediately--then saw an article in a mag in a Dr.'s office.--Oprah said it was #1 cause of weight gain among drugs. Evil they can do that to people--and ins. companies--it was very expensive. I had tried so hard to lose weight, then took 9 pills a day guaranteed to make me need a crane someday to get out of my house!. Lyrica did the same thing, but worse--30 lbs in just 6 weeks. But I was watching, quit immediately. It worked but I slept 18 hrs/day and could not see straight. It's hard enough suffering w/illness OR a weight gain--both is beyond the pale. You sound like you are doing better--everyone has issues about their hair--I had too much--ir was huge, hot, but it was so straight, it would not stay curled no matter what, and bosses wanted us to look professional, not like students or hippies. I finally just pony-tailed it, kept it trimmed... Then half fell out with back surgery, then more, more... Once it grew back a month or 2 or 3 later but bright white--looked like a halo around my head! In another month, the dark brown came thru again. It was crazy. Baldness must be hard--so cold in winter, and wigs would be hot in summer. But when people can accept and come to terms with whatever issues they face, people as a whole respect them for dealing. And they end up looking MORE attractive. So remember, many will see you as even more beautiful. You won't have your head in a sweater in summertime...you could rock Hawaii! Anywhere other--hairy--people are dying of heat prostration, you may be cool as a cucumber. You also can wear pretty scarves, hats that those of us with straggly buns & huge heads (NOT heads of hair, just huge heads!) can't. Develop your own style, look people in the eye, and know good people don't think anything bad--they are with you. Not easy, I know. Hoping you the best and knowing how hard it is, how scary.
I agree. My brother started losing his hair at 19 and it effected his confidence a lot where as I’ve just noticed I’m starting to recede and thin a little at 46 and I don’t care at all.
Going bald between 20 and 25 runs in my dad's side of the family. I started noticing it when I was 19 and it was half gone when I was 25. Luckily I'm confident in myself so I shaved my head and it hasn't bothered me at all. I personally don't understand why men even care if they go bald.
@@lc6726 I guess I don't think of it like that because I wouldn't want to be with a woman who wouldn't want me if I was bald or went bald. I'm not into vein woman. Plus there are A LOT of sweet caring, smart, very beautiful woman who not only don't care about a man being bald, but even prefer men with a bald/shaved head. But I guess some men want a woman who otherwise wouldn't want them if they had no hair.
One thing that comes across again and again with Dr. Linkov in these videos is his kindness and modesty....putting himself in the place of the person who seeks such surgeries.
@@MrEazyE357 I meant that having significant baldness improves the look of a shave. The hair is finer and lighter so the overall effect is generally improved.

@@drgarylinkov Just go to a dermatologist and get corticosteroid injections. Also, get a prescription for a JAK inhibitor to modulate your immune response. Furthermore, avoid vaccines because that is what brought back my Alopecia. That happened to a lot of people on the internet forums as well.

This popped up on my feed. Plastic surgery is a great option for many people in terms of self esteem and also helping out in your line of work. Communication with the doc is key. Of course always use a board certified physician and be wary of cut rate places (pun intended). The best surgeons are expensive for a reason!

Just a suggestion why dont you see a barber or hair stylist once a month and get your head shaved. It could be a nice relaxing treat too yourself. But then again I have long hair because I cant stand sitting in a salon while others love to be pampered. For you it would be different after your first shave if you keep it up once a month I dont think you will have to sit in a chair that long. I know doctors like to be controlling or in control so that might be an issue, but go for it dude! PS I liked and subscribed.
I started losing hair mid 20’s standard male pattern baldness. I got a total of 5 ops or 2 scalp reductions (reduced area that needed transplant and got the results of a mini face lift as a bonus I believe scalp reductions are no longer offered) and 3 total HT from age 32 to 48. I still have a medium size mostly bald center but with my hair long tied in a ponytail and a little hair fiber powder and hair color that stains the scalp a little, the end result is the actual and appearance of a full head of healthy hair. I’m 65 and have enough donor hair left for one more HT but I’ll pass I’m good. I spent the equivalent of $40,000 in today’s money and some of the best money ever spent. I was in sales or face to face work and a bachelor that dated as many women as I could for as long as I could. My advice is to fight baldness with every cent you can spare, commitment and keep fighting. Just like you pump iron and work out to stay fit, having hair is the same relative to the better your look the better life goes for you. Fat bald is not a fun way I would imagine.
Genetics are crazy and interesting my husband and I are a 3rd native american we have sooo much hair he even let's it grow and donates it every 5 years, but I try not to give it so much importance after I got really sick and lost half of my hair I was so sad than I realized I was still me with our without it. P.s. my hair did grow back I'm better now.
Problem for most men that lose their hair is that it’s primarily because of DHT which kills the follicles long term. It won’t grow back after a while. DHT is not a factor for women who don’t have enough testosterone for it to matter with extreme rare exceptions.
I've found it interesting that natives seem to never bald at all. Obviously it's due to genetics but it's interesting because every other race appears to be genetically exposed to this problem.
@@ItJustHappened1 The map of the rates of male pattern baldness is super interesting. It’s like it radiates out of the Middle East and gradually gets less the further you get away from the Middle East. Of course there are still many cases of male pattern baldness all over the world, and especially in Scandinavian countries, but the rates are lower for native Americans and Eastern Asian men and they were the furthest away from the Middle East.
I'm half Native American, half white. I joke around that I got the best of both worlds, so to speak. My skin is "white," but I tan very easily. I'm in my [very early] forties and people I work with, as well as customers, both tell me I still look like I'm in my twenties. I joke around that I sold my soul two decades ago and haven't aged a day since, HaHa. Oh, and I still have a head full of hair. Can't grow a beard, though. Well, I can, but the hairs are too thick and they make my skin itch. So I just keep a little scruff/5 o'clock shadow instead.

Dr. Link over, please do a segment on Covid hair loss. I had C19 really bad and loss body hair and tons from my scalp. My GP says it shows how my body was so shocked and traumatized by being so ill. Can you do a video on MGK's transplant? I know he got it right before filming his movie Nerve, and in some scenes you can even see the scar from the FUT procedure. But he never even shaved his head, instead he just rocked a man bun, just like in the movie. It looks so well done now, no one would notice it. This video would be really helpful! Thanks in advanced

I've noticed recently that I have been recommended a ton of videos such as this talking about hair transplants despite not looking it up. I started balding at 18 and started shaving my head at 21, no intention to ever get a transplant as I don't really miss hair. But I think it's incredible how Google and the gang are able to go right to people's common insecurities and throw content like this their way. It seems to be getting trendier recently to humour a hair transplant if you're going bald.
Good information doc. I am 39. I have had 4 hair transplants..2 FUT and 2 FUE. Here is my input. I regret the hair transplants.. It was extremely expensive and I have been shaving my head for years after spending all that money. I actually got SMP done last year and it was the best thing I ever did for hair loss, looks amazing and I unfortunately have to deal with the long obvious linear scar from the FUT. My advice is look into SMP if you don't mind having the shaved head look but make sure you have a good company do the SMP.
I'm thinking about SMP. Most results seem to look good. I think some people go too far with it. As in trying to get their high School hairline back. Instead of making it look like an adult age hairline. What company did you go with?

I watch Joe pretty regularly but I don't remember this episode. So glad I still have all my hair at 50. Some guys can pull it off, but I don't look good with a shaved head. (I shaved it once years ago on a dare... it couldn't grow back fast enough.)
That's what we need from doctors. Good advice and honest assessment. Sadly there are many doctors who just grab cash which makes me uneasy. I'm considering laser for my eyes but I'm feeling pressed by advertising and lack of proper explanation.

I had a hair transplant booked in recently and I decided to cancel it two weeks before. I came to the acceptance that it isnt a permanent fix - it probably won’t meet my expectations and unless Commit to taking finestaride and minoxidil post surgery (both of which I’ve experienced side effects with) I’ll probably need another one in a few years. The truth is with hair loss is you’re fighting a losing battle but it’s crazy that a lot of hair loss clinics (including the clinic I went to) put so much misinformation out there. It even reads on the clinics website that ‘a hair transplant is the only permanent solution for hair loss’ this isn’t true on so many levels. Look at celebrities who’ve had to have 4-5 over the course of their lives. Ultimately, it’s all about doing what’s best for you. I’d advise taking medications like minoxidil/finestaride first and seeing what your tolerance is like and how much ground you can recover before looking at a hair transplant seriously. It’s always a balancing act between restoring your confidence and ensuring you’re not inadvertently causing downstream health complications with your treatment plan.
Thing I always think about hair transplantation is, assuming the grafts take, as you get older perhaps you continue to lose hair elsewhere on your head. Leaving you with little hair islands, separated by seas of skin in between. Chimplants.

Since you have an autoimmune issue yourself I’m interested in hearing your thoughts about how plastic surgery affects the body long term. Things like breast implant illness and issues where it seems like the body wants whatever foreign body(like an implant) out so the immune system tries to attack it. I have hashimotos so my immune system is... confused. It needs to chill out honestly. I heard someone use this example once that it’s like if someone had a bug on their arm the immune systems job is to come by and lightly swat the bug but with hashimotos it brings a shotgun and blows the whole thing away causing more damage than necessary.
I have an autoimmune disease too and no, I wouldn’t get any implants or willingly put foreign things in my body, our bodies are already going into attack mode over the smallest things causing us more harm than good. Also I produce too much collagen so sometimes when I get a cut my body will like over heal itself, and it looks something like a skin tag, risen and annoying (especially when I shave, bc it’s on my leg) my dermatologist has tried to remove them and they grew back, he did steroid shots around them too and that didn’t work either….I just deal with the few I have. I haven’t got fillers or Botox because I’m unsure how my body would react to it, but I have done the PDO threads and that went well.

I've been a Bosley customer since 2004. I was in my early 30's. I only had two procedures, but I was supposed to do a total of 3 but never did. I'm 49 now.
"Being bald has become more accepted now" 100% disagree. I feel it's the exact opposite. Shaved head maybe, but even then only certain people can pull it off.
Im clearly balding (and have finally started taking medication for it wish me luck) but i much prefer my balding short hair look to being completely sclap shining shaved bald. I think its a bit weird (no offence to anyone) when its just a completely bald head. Except for black guys who i think look normal without any hair

I love Gary but 1. He hasn't had hair problems his whole life. His hair lived a better life than a lot of mens' do, he had very nice hair up until a few years ago when he lost it all very fast, there vids of him on the channel with full hair i believe. 2. Hair isn't his life goal, he's a general plastic surgeon who performs other procedures as well i believe, he's just a great spokesperson for hair loss and being comfortable with yourself.

I almost had a hair transplant as a kid, to cover scars from brain surgery, but the surgeon decided against it. He never said why he changed his mind, but 15 years later I literally just realized it was because the only spots that were permanently bald were that way because of a MRSA infection. Not exactly a good idea to do surgery on a little girl who's recovering from massive injuries /and/ was high risk for MRSA.
I'm 25 now, and the bald spots are still shiny, and often noticeable- when my immune system decides to do thin it out or my hair is just greasy, but they don't bother me at all. I'm the type of person who thinks scars are cool, and great conversation starters.
And yet I have a massive insecurity of my perfectly fine nose... shows how weird the brain is when it comes to judging your own body.

I just find it amusing how odd the brain is with prioritizing insecurities. Some people might be missing an arm, but they'd sooner have a burn scar on their leg removed than grow their arm back. Some people freckles are the worst thing the world has ever done to them, while they love their big silly nose.

@@xnellyxs1 pff, that would be amusing. But I've hated my nose since long before my skull got crushed in. My bald spots are a badge of honor for surviving multiple experiences that should have killed me, within a 6 months time span. Combined, it really is an insane miracle I pulled through.
The only significance to my nose is my little dog bite scar, and while it is cute, it's technically underneath. I suppose I would probably lose it if I were to change my nose though... another reason not to do so.
Went bald at 22. dad said this simple thing "what you gonna do? wake up and worry about it, how thick, is it falling out? or you could just buzz it every 2 weeks and never use a comb again" i now love it.

He's undergoing treatment that makes the skin in his head very photosensitive (sensitive to light) so he is supposed to keep it cover most of the day until he completes treatment

I'm a female 32 I been blessed with extremely thick red hair that grows like wildfire. I haven't cut it since March 2019 and it's currently 45in long. I cut it once it gets to much for me and donate to charity. But a few years back my mom had an autoimmune illness that made her hair super thin and stringy. I cut 30 in off my hair and took it to a wig maker because she was born with my hair color too. So my mom had a wig she no longer has to die her hair or anything. I felt it was the least I could do to give back to my mom for raising me. I took care of her until she passed in Feb 2019. Then following native American tradition cut my hair to help with the grieving and honor her

You seem like you are a much more authentic and compassionate person than most plastic surgeons. I agree with you that it isn't a question of vanity, or at least not mostly about vanity, with everyone who elects to do it, as opposed to the quest to feel right. As someone who had a lot of trauma in childhood, my looks were something that gave me just enough self-confidence to keep going. At times it seemed like the only thing I had going for me in my life. So when I started to lose my hair in my late twenties I felt like my world was coming to an end. It compounded the anxiety and depression stemming from my childhood. When others would sometimes say it wasn't something important, they didn't realize that someone like me just can't shake the feeling that it's something akin to the feeling of not being able to brush your teeth before being thrust into a social world. Yeah, that wouldn't be "something important" per se either, but who could be at peace of mind and confident thinking that everyone thinks your breath smells like rotting garbage? If I ever do decide to do hair transplants, I'll probably make an appointment with you.
I'm 61, did hair transplants in my late 20's by top shelf at the time, Bosley in San Francisco. That inner voice yelled at me to get out of the chair just before the deed. I didn't listen. There are people who committed suicide because of botched transplants. Then there are people like my brother who inherited my Mother's side of the family - thick, full head of hair. What a waste of brain power I went through. My love life would've been better at the time if I had my confidence today and just owned it.

I use to eat regularly at a cafe on my lunch break few years back... Would oftentimes meet this guy at the cafe, nice - friendly guy, we'd chat often, he had an abnormally massive distinct scar on the back of his bald head, he had a limp, and very odd and his actions and his mannerism struck me as he may of had a brain injury, he mentioned he was in a motorcycle accident in the past and i just figured the accident was a result of the scar and limp... About a year into knowing him, we where randomly discussing hair transplants and he explained that how he received his scar...
I then realised he didn't have a brain injury, he was just an awkward guy...

My chin implant gave my face the balance it needed. Well done, looks natural and worth every penny I paid. The key is to get a plastic surgeon with a great sense of aesthetics and one who will be honest about expectations and outcomes. Mine interviewed me before discussing surgery to answer my questions, tell me what he could do well, and determine if I had realistic expectations. I appreciate him for that .
Dude, the clean look is badass on you. I felt better about my alopecia by watching a lot of Smallville/Lex Luthor/Michael Rosenbaum back in 2002 when my hair took a permanent vacation.
I bladed in my late 20s, did some medical therapy for a few years, then started shaving my head. Such a rush of relief to just embrace the bald look. The psychological games of following your thinning in the mirror, wondering if you are pulling it off, doubting it-getting rid of all that was the best part of shaving. That was not a battle I was willing to continue fighting, and it would be a lifelong battle if you go down the path of transplants and repeat transplants. I feel normal now, look great too. 💪🏽
It's the best thing to do. Accept and live with it. It's not bad being bald. Imagine going blind or deaf. Now that's bad.
Yeah, when you no longer can easily cover the thinning by cutting sides short and changing the combin direction just go bald. I started thinning on top and noticed it in my 25s. It's still ok but if and when it keeps progressing I'll just go bald. I refuse to play the games. I might get a transplant after 35 but no games.
I just shaved it all off at 25. I always knew the medication wasn't worth it, and after seeing the back of my head a few times on camera, I decided the time had come. Once you become truly bald, you are no longer defined by your blading.
I started thinning around 23-24, really got thin on top around 27-28. I started losing my hair at the temples with a more pronounced widow’s peak, then the crown accelerated around 29. I shaved it all off at 29 and never looked back. I wish I did it sooner.
I shave my head but my hair grows so fast i have to shave 3 times a week. My beard compliments my shaved head and my girl loves it but shaving sucks at times

Its nice to see such an honest outlook on plastic surgery from a doctor who performs it.
I was a bit dismayed with my experience. It wasn’t hair, but the doctor and office pretended the results were perfect and refused to admit the issue that resulted. Cosmetically there was some asymmetry which was a possibility i was made aware of and don’t mind as much, but the chronic pain I had was not supposed to a thing.
I have alopecia areata also and even though I’m female I shave my head and wear wigs. Folk said why didn’t I style my hair over the bald patches but I’d rather have it all shaved rather than trying to cover blad areas. It was a huge blow as I was struggling with medication induced obesity which took me from a size 6 U.K. to a size 16 in a matter of months.
All in all I’ve been left as a bald Michelin Lady. Not good for self esteem.
You can regrow hair using hyperbarics, or I've heard that from people who got hyperbarics for other reasons...

That sucks! I've had meds take me from a size 16 to a 24--Neurontin. My doc watched it happen, after back surgery. He never said a thing--should have told me what the pills did. I got food poisoning and could not keep the pills down, realized they never helped the pain & nerve problems, so I quit and started losing weight immediately--then saw an article in a mag in a Dr.'s office.--Oprah said it was #1 cause of weight gain among drugs. Evil they can do that to people--and ins. companies--it was very expensive.
I had tried so hard to lose weight, then took 9 pills a day guaranteed to make me need a crane someday to get out of my house!. Lyrica did the same thing, but worse--30 lbs in just 6 weeks. But I was watching, quit immediately. It worked but I slept 18 hrs/day and could not see straight. It's hard enough suffering w/illness OR a weight gain--both is beyond the pale.
You sound like you are doing better--everyone has issues about their hair--I had too much--ir was huge, hot, but it was so straight, it would not stay curled no matter what, and bosses wanted us to look professional, not like students or hippies. I finally just pony-tailed it, kept it trimmed... Then half fell out with back surgery, then more, more... Once it grew back a month or 2 or 3 later but bright white--looked like a halo around my head! In another month, the dark brown came thru again. It was crazy.
Baldness must be hard--so cold in winter, and wigs would be hot in summer. But when people can accept and come to terms with whatever issues they face, people as a whole respect them for dealing. And they end up looking MORE attractive.
So remember, many will see you as even more beautiful. You won't have your head in a sweater in summertime...you could rock Hawaii! Anywhere other--hairy--people are dying of heat prostration, you may be cool as a cucumber. You also can wear pretty scarves, hats that those of us with straggly buns & huge heads (NOT heads of hair, just huge heads!) can't. Develop your own style, look people in the eye, and know good people don't think anything bad--they are with you. Not easy, I know.

I agree. My brother started losing his hair at 19 and it effected his confidence a lot where as I’ve just noticed I’m starting to recede and thin a little at 46 and I don’t care at all.
Going bald between 20 and 25 runs in my dad's side of the family. I started noticing it when I was 19 and it was half gone when I was 25. Luckily I'm confident in myself so I shaved my head and it hasn't bothered me at all. I personally don't understand why men even care if they go bald.

Plus there are A LOT of sweet caring, smart, very beautiful woman who not only don't care about a man being bald, but even prefer men with a bald/shaved head. But I guess some men want a woman who otherwise wouldn't want them if they had no hair.

@@drgarylinkov Just go to a dermatologist and get corticosteroid injections. Also, get a prescription for a JAK inhibitor to modulate your immune response. Furthermore, avoid vaccines because that is what brought back my Alopecia. That happened to a lot of people on the internet forums as well.

This popped up on my feed. Plastic surgery is a great option for many people in terms of self esteem and also helping out in your line of work. Communication with the doc is key. Of course always use a board certified physician and be wary of cut rate places (pun intended). The best surgeons are expensive for a reason!

Dr.Linkov, I love your channel. I love how you not only educate us but keep it real. I think physicians should aspire to become like you. Keep it up!
I started losing hair mid 20’s standard male pattern baldness. I got a total of 5 ops or 2 scalp reductions (reduced area that needed transplant and got the results of a mini face lift as a bonus I believe scalp reductions are no longer offered) and 3 total HT from age 32 to 48. I still have a medium size mostly bald center but with my hair long tied in a ponytail and a little hair fiber powder and hair color that stains the scalp a little, the end result is the actual and appearance of a full head of healthy hair. I’m 65 and have enough donor hair left for one more HT but I’ll pass I’m good. I spent the equivalent of $40,000 in today’s money and some of the best money ever spent. I was in sales or face to face work and a bachelor that dated as many women as I could for as long as I could. My advice is to fight baldness with every cent you can spare, commitment and keep fighting. Just like you pump iron and work out to stay fit, having hair is the same relative to the better your look the better life goes for you. Fat bald is not a fun way I would imagine.
Genetics are crazy and interesting my husband and I are a 3rd native american we have sooo much hair he even let's it grow and donates it every 5 years, but I try not to give it so much importance after I got really sick and lost half of my hair I was so sad than I realized I was still me with our without it.
P.s. my hair did grow back I'm better now.
Problem for most men that lose their hair is that it’s primarily because of DHT which kills the follicles long term. It won’t grow back after a while. DHT is not a factor for women who don’t have enough testosterone for it to matter with extreme rare exceptions.
I've found it interesting that natives seem to never bald at all. Obviously it's due to genetics but it's interesting because every other race appears to be genetically exposed to this problem.

It’s like it radiates out of the Middle East and gradually gets less the further you get away from the Middle East. Of course there are still many cases of male pattern baldness all over the world, and especially in Scandinavian countries, but the rates are lower for native Americans and Eastern Asian men and they were the furthest away from the Middle East.
I'm half Native American, half white. I joke around that I got the best of both worlds, so to speak. My skin is "white," but I tan very easily. I'm in my [very early] forties and people I work with, as well as customers, both tell me I still look like I'm in my twenties. I joke around that I sold my soul two decades ago and haven't aged a day since, HaHa. Oh, and I still have a head full of hair. Can't grow a beard, though. Well, I can, but the hairs are too thick and they make my skin itch. So I just keep a little scruff/5 o'clock shadow instead.

As a black man I shave my head, I also work out alot but it's just a level of confidence and preference. I can shave and go....some women are ok with it, some like hair. What if your woman likes hair and you start to lose yours.....what then....
Dr. Link over, please do a segment on Covid hair loss. I had C19 really bad and loss body hair and tons from my scalp. My GP says it shows how my body was so shocked and traumatized by being so ill. Literally lost handful each day. Currently taking different things to help retain and promote growth AND PATIENCE. T.hank you!

Can you do a video on MGK's transplant? I know he got it right before filming his movie Nerve, and in some scenes you can even see the scar from the FUT procedure. But he never even shaved his head, instead he just rocked a man bun, just like in the movie. It looks so well done now, no one would notice it. This video would be really helpful! Thanks in advanced

I've noticed recently that I have been recommended a ton of videos such as this talking about hair transplants despite not looking it up. I started balding at 18 and started shaving my head at 21, no intention to ever get a transplant as I don't really miss hair. But I think it's incredible how Google and the gang are able to go right to people's common insecurities and throw content like this their way. It seems to be getting trendier recently to humour a hair transplant if you're going bald.

I am 39. I have had 4 hair transplants..2 FUT and 2 FUE. Here is my input. I regret the hair transplants.. It was extremely expensive and I have been shaving my head for years after spending all that money.
I actually got SMP done last year and it was the best thing I ever did for hair loss, looks amazing and I unfortunately have to deal with the long obvious linear scar from the FUT. My advice is look into SMP if you don't mind having the shaved head look but make sure you have a good company do the SMP.
I'm thinking about SMP. Most results seem to look good. I think some people go too far with it. As in trying to get their high School hairline back. Instead of making it look like an adult age hairline.
What company did you go with?
@@JB-1138 I'm in the Chicago area and did Magic Ink. Scalp Micro USA just opened a clinic here and that would be my first choice. I agree some people go too far with the hairline but I kept it reasonable. It does look like a shaved head. Give it a shot

I watch Joe pretty regularly but I don't remember this episode. So glad I still have all my hair at 50. Some guys can pull it off, but I don't look good with a shaved head. (I shaved it once years ago on a dare... it couldn't grow back fast enough.)
That's what we need from doctors. Good advice and honest assessment. Sadly there are many doctors who just grab cash which makes me uneasy. I'm considering laser for my eyes but I'm feeling pressed by advertising and lack of proper explanation.
Doctors are also just not the gods in general that people think they are. People take their word as gospel and they're wrong all the time.

i think it is very different when talking about people not needing plastic surgery and getting it vs someone not needing liposuction and getting it.
Being honest with yourself and comfortable in your own skin is true confidence that can't be bought.
I had a hair transplant booked in recently and I decided to cancel it two weeks before. I came to the acceptance that it isnt a permanent fix - it probably won’t meet my expectations and unless Commit to taking finestaride and minoxidil post surgery (both of which I’ve experienced side effects with) I’ll probably need another one in a few years. The truth is with hair loss is you’re fighting a losing battle but it’s crazy that a lot of hair loss clinics (including the clinic I went to) put so much misinformation out there. It even reads on the clinics website that ‘a hair transplant is the only permanent solution for hair loss’ this isn’t true on so many levels. Look at celebrities who’ve had to have 4-5 over the course of their lives.
Ultimately, it’s all about doing what’s best for you. I’d advise taking medications like minoxidil/finestaride first and seeing what your tolerance is like and how much ground you can recover before looking at a hair transplant seriously. It’s always a balancing act between restoring your confidence and ensuring you’re not inadvertently causing downstream health complications with your treatment plan.

Well, Rogan makes a good point. You are not getting hair back with these procedures, you are moving it around.
Thing I always think about hair transplantation is, assuming the grafts take, as you get older perhaps you continue to lose hair elsewhere on your head. Leaving you with little hair islands, separated by seas of skin in between. Chimplants.

Since you have an autoimmune issue yourself I’m interested in hearing your thoughts about how plastic surgery affects the body long term. Things like breast implant illness and issues where it seems like the body wants whatever foreign body(like an implant) out so the immune system tries to attack it. I have hashimotos so my immune system is... confused. It needs to chill out honestly. I heard someone use this example once that it’s like if someone had a bug on their arm the immune systems job is to come by and lightly swat the bug but with hashimotos it brings a shotgun and blows the whole thing away causing more damage than necessary.

I have an autoimmune disease too and no, I wouldn’t get any implants or willingly put foreign things in my body, our bodies are already going into attack mode over the smallest things causing us more harm than good. Also I produce too much collagen so sometimes when I get a cut my body will like over heal itself, and it looks something like a skin tag, risen and annoying (especially when I shave, bc it’s on my leg) my dermatologist has tried to remove them and they grew back, he did steroid shots around them too and that didn’t work either….I just deal with the few I have. I haven’t got fillers or Botox because I’m unsure how my body would react to it, but I have done the PDO threads and that went well.
Doctor have you ever had a mole removal on the eyelid of a patient? What options would you recommend on a mole on the eyelid? Considering it is a delicate area and needs to open and close and maintain the original fold
I’ve done many eyelid mole removals. They work great. Go for excision over shave.

100% disagree. I feel it's the exact opposite. Shaved head maybe, but even then only certain people can pull it off.
Im clearly balding (and have finally started taking medication for it wish me luck) but i much prefer my balding short hair look to being completely sclap shining shaved bald. I think its a bit weird (no offence to anyone) when its just a completely bald head. Except for black guys who i think look normal without any hair
