  • Prevent a hydraulic system failure on the Jaguar XK8 or XKR convertible by limiting the pump pressure to under 1000 PSI. The OEM or aftermarket hoses can rupture due to very high static pressure when the pump continues to run as the windows move electrically. Ruptured hoses are a two-day $1000+ job, the valve is 2 hours at 1/3 the cost.

I never saw you tighten the valve back, but I assume you must have. Great video. The only thing I think you should add is a warning to folks to be very careful when removing and reinstalling the pump to not bump those solenoid connectors. They are very fragile, and not readily available. I paid $325 for the same kit from Gus. I don't remember removing the "pump plug" (2:15 in the video) when I did it a couple weeks ago, and I didn't see it in the video.

Mark thank you for the good advice. Gus warned me about those very fragile solenoid connectors. Fortunately my Jag has that yellow-yellow quick connect to bypass any touch of the solenoids. Yes I should have mentioned closing the pressure relief valve.

@@autosick Mine has the same connectors as yours, but that did not stop this knucklehead when clumsily putting the pump back into position from bashing the green solenoid connector on the solenoid. I got lucky. Cabriolet Tops was only 60 miles up the road from me in Sarasota and sold me one for $80, so I was back in business in a couple of hours, I didn't know it though until I tried to operate the top because I had disconnected it at the same connector you did.

Thanks for highlighting this kit. I follow you due to your R107 videos and it is amazing we have 2 cars in common. I don't use my top for this very fear of hose rupture. I will be getting this kit also. I am not sure why Jaguar designed this such that the pump continues to run after the hydraulic work is done. I would have designed it so once the latch closes, the pump would shut off as the electric windows raised, but this seems like a reasonable workaround for the problem. Thanks again for your R107 and XK8 videos

BB, as you can see I generally ignore UA-cam comments. Lots of people assume I am a mechanic or have some kind of training. I am a hobbyist that likes cars. I must say your taste in vehicles is impeccable. How do you compare the 107 to the Jag? I find the 107 gets more compliments but IMHO the Jag handles much better and is the one I pick when the weather is fine.

@@ohiostatefood Hey Ken (though you can't see, I politely bow to you ) I am a hobbyist like yourself. I have a 79 450SL w/80K original miles. Very nice condition maple yellow w/ tobacco interior. I also have a light blue 05 XK8 w/ 32k original miles. Both cars are garage queens. Never sees rain or worse. To compare the two cars is difficult. What do they have in common? Style, originality, premium build quality, interior comfort, and they both just look cool (oh! and they both don't have great places to put your drink). But they (as you know) are totally different cars. The 450sl is not a high-performance car. In my opinion, the Mercedes 450Sl is just a fun cruizer that turns heads due to its classic timeless style (be it roadster, top-down, or hard top on) and is basically computerless. The Jaguar on the other hand is no performance slouch. A bit too low to the ground as some terrain can contact the low nose. So I feel like I have to be much more careful about where I go in the Jaguar. The Jaguar is fun to drive for different reasons to me. Jaguar is for higher performance cruising while the Mercedes is just old school German engineering fun. Thanks again for your videos, the Mercedes timing chain video, the seats, this one, and several others have been very nice to see what you are getting into before doing it yourself. You are a smart fellow and it is hard to express my appreciation for you taking the time to make the videos you have to help others. Stay virus-free and healthy sir! And I look forward to your future videos if you are able and wanting to do so. And thanks for your comment reply!

What sizes are the hoses and fittings? What is the part # on the relief valve?
