Thanks once again, John for sharing another video with us on the subject. This is another job that frightens a lot of us a little and I would not want to do it. That said, everything becomes less daunting as you become familiar with the car.

If you buy the superior small dia hoses from Top Hydraulics, they give you plastic nipples to join the new hoses to the old, so as you pull the old ones out of the A-pillar you pull the new ones through. The rest of the job is fairly easy except in the area between the rear seat and boot which took a bit of juggling.

Thanks John for the kind mention. The error (Green shower) can also happen if you press the button for too long. When *Bing* you should release the button.

Thanks Udo. There’s not a lot of information on this issue. You’re a very methodical worker!

Hi John, I had the green shower on my XKR X100 2000 USA spec convertible.
On inspection of the original Jaguar fitted lines they are only plastic tubes, very low spec but high price.
I measured my lines and got HEL performance to make new lines at approx £35 each. Jaguar was a lot more expensive. The HEL performance lines were rated at twice the hydraulic pressure. Also discovered that one actuator had different fittings for the union. Was able to get that custom made. Also worth noting, I accidentally damaged a solenoid on the roof hydraulic pump when trying to acces the cd changer. Jaguar wanted thousands for a new pump. I found that a Mercedes unit in a breakers had the same solenoid type, size and resistance. Only had to splice a new electrical connection and all fixed for £45.

Superb work Tim. And thanks for sharing your tips with the TTG community. I certainly think i would have lines made up using the old ones as patterns rather than replacing with O.E.👍

Thanks John, really timely as I had these replaced last week, but it has triggered a 1-7 flashing airbag light, so some more work to do.

Thanks John. I was a little worried about this issue as it doesn’t come up a lot. Adelecio’s less intrusive method is a great idea if you can get it done for that kind of money

Hi John. Very interesting video. I have replaced the hydraulic fluid in my lines in the hope I'm giving them an easier life. Time will tell 👍

Great info as usual John. Mine must have had the problem in the past as there is evidence of oil under the header panel and in the centre light, but it seems OK now. I'm in the UK and the car has always been, so not a hot country. I wonder if like Idalecio someone has replaced just that last section of pipe but fitted a solid pipe and not flexi. That in my view would be a good future proof solution.

Fame at last, thanks for the shout out, but the link you installed doesn't work. TSK TSK. As for the purchase of another Jaguar my brother and I decided it would be unfair of us to buy it when you are about to buy your classic 60's Jaguar for restoration. :)

John, you've inspired me to just check the condition of my hoses near the latch. There's no green shower but the groaning noise every time I operate the roof always makes me look at the interior light expecting a tinge of green.
I live in Australia where temperatures can really climb but the car spends most of its life tucked up in a garage thankfully.
One other point that I've read about is the change of hose material at some point during the late 90s. I believe it was an attempt at cost cutting. Does anyone have information about the hose types and how to identify which one you have. I believe the earlier hoses last longer but that might just be wishful thinking.

Any thoughts on preventative action such as replacing the oil if we assume we have breakdown of the oil due to high temperatures? Would it be beneficial to suck out old oil from reservoir and to fill with fresh oil, or would the new oil just never reach the area of the latch?

See my comment above. The fluid does circulate if you just drain and refill the reservoir.

Hi John, wondered what your opinion of the Nikisil cylinder linings on earlier cars is please. Seems the reason XK8 s are so reasonably priced is because future owners have been put off buying models with the Nikisil coating? Keep up the good work, subscribed now for a few years👍

Hi Philip. @philipmcnulty4140 Any car still running well without smoke, poor starting or low compression at this stage, has nothing to fear from Nikasil issues. Indeed there is a solid argument that a car still running Nikasil bores has the better (lower friction and lighter) engine. 4.2 cars are in all honesty even more bulletproof, than either the Nikasil or steel lined 4.0 litres, but that's related to having all of the evolutionary upgrades to ancilliary components Both of my XK8's have been early Nikasil cars. Its a none problem in 2024 as far as im concerned.
