the only thing difficult is removing the pin from the front of the top ram. when the pin is out as far as it will go it is touching the side of the frame and still needs to come out anither 5-10 mm. I can only see one realistic option- cut the pin and when reassembling install the other way. also the hose clips will probably be very difficult- not fun even when i could see them .(i haven't done them yet) so if you are repairing/replacing the main rams be prepared!

There is a lot of variation from car to car for how much room there is between the chassis and the front pin on the main lift cylinder. Unfortunately, we did not know that when we made the video and we were working on a car that had enough clearance for the pin. IF there is not enough clearance, then you can simply unbolt the top's frame from the chassis and lift up the top a few inches, then put it on blocks.

The top on my 2007 XK is working fine, but the covers that are actuated by strings and springs and things are not. Is there another video that details their operation? This video touches on it, but doesn't give the information I think I need.

Thanks for asking. We literally had the car in the video available only for an afternoon and we only had an iPhone available for filming that day, so we couldn't cover any more than we did. Unfortunately, I am not aware of any videos that cover the 'strings and springs and things'. Fortunately, the springs and strings and things are purely mechanical and you should be able to figure out how they work or how they can be fixed by comparing the left side to the right side.

@@TopHydraulics Thank you for your prompt response and encouragement. I am somewhat awash as neither side is working, the spring in the right side holds it open, but the left side is loose both ways. I may try to access the mechanisms from inside the trunk, but with the top down I expect problems. I am going to review your video as I am leery of stopping the top action mid way. Thanks again and any further information you might forward is much appreciated.

same for 1999? Harder/easier? Do you sell the pressure relief valve improvement? thanx

It looks like you have a model year 1999 XK8/XKR, which is not the one shown in this video series. Removal and replacement is somewhat easier on a '99, but it is still time consuming. By "pressure relief valve improvement", you must be referring to the pressure reducer on the pump that is being sold to try and make the hoses fail later. The original hoses on your '99 XK8 are made of biodegradable material, which disintegrates. Someone had the idea of selling a pressure reducer for the pump on model years '96-'06 (not the pump featured in this video series) with the idea that hoses will not fail if the pump puts out less pressure. That does not work out in reality. The hoses on model year '99 will eventually fail one way or the other, so you are wasting money on a gadget that only prolongs the agony. Top Hydraulics' hoses are by far the best on the market. Get a full set of hoses together with the cylinders, see www.tophydraulics.com/jaguar/134-1321-jaguar-xkr-xk8-hydraulic-system-upgrade.html#/30-core_exchange-send_your_parts_to_top_hydraulics_first/45-model_year-1996

I am about to attempt this on a 2002. We got the whole kit from top hydraulics. is there anything i need to know that is different from the car shown here and a 02?

Thanks for asking. The X100 model year 2002 is quite different from the one shown in this video. It's actually easier, but you have to remove the driver's seat to replace the hoses going to the front.

How do you refill the hydraulic fluid? Thanks for the video. Hope to remove hyd pump and send it to you for repair.

    • @TopHydraulics

Thanks for asking. We will actually send the pump back filled with fluid. Thus, all you have to worry about is draining the fluid out of the reservoir's fill plug before you ship the pump to us, so that the package (or the pump's electric motor) does not get soaked in oil.

@@okezieogbonnia3011 Thanks for asking. If you have hydraulic fluid leaking from your 2007 XK top system, then you likely have one or more cylinders leaking and you are best off having them all taken care of at the same time. At Top Hydraulics, we specialize in rebuildng convertible top ylinders, manufacturing new convertible top hoses and rebuilding convertible top pumps. We don't work on cars other than to make DIY videos like the one you have watched. Feel free to contact us directly via email at info@tophydraulics.com and we might be able to find a shop in your area that is capable of fixing your top.
