    I grew up on food stamps in a cockroach infested apartment with a mattress on the floor but my parents never stole. I became a young single mother and struggled at the age of 19 and had to scrounge up change from under my car seat to buy food sometimes... I never stole.
    My parents raised me with morals. I stole a bottle of Tinkerbell perfume when I was too young to know that stealing was wrong... and my mom took me outside and whooped my butt. It's one of the earliest memories I have and I learned stealing is bad!!!!
    Thanks to the morals my parents raised me with and watching my dad work hard despite being poor I worked my way up to owning three rental properties, having a large house, and have owned several businesses throughout my life.

    They also ignore the fact that a lot of these "stats" are based on prosecuton or, at the very least, filed charges. If you're not going after criminals, of COURSE crime stats look better.... because there's no crime being charged. Doesn't mean there wasn't a crime committed.

    • @justforever96
      @justforever96 2 місяці тому +1

      No, he covers that repeatedly. Most of the time crime numbers come from a separate crime report, a survey essentially, where they just ask many random people about the crime they have experienced. It can vary though, that's why it's important to know the source of your statistics. And he points out that when they changed to the new crime reporting system recently, crime numbers immediately went down significantly, which at the very least suggests you need to look into the reports and find out why. Because it's very telling when to change your data collection and immediately get totally different results, that the new collection method is the reason for the drop, not an actual amazing coincidence in crime reduction at the same moment.

    • @Phil-ey6yh
      @Phil-ey6yh 2 місяці тому +2

      @justforever96 I've gone over both the FBI Uniform Crime Report and the National Crime Victimization Survey. The UCR deals with just reported crime, the NCVS compiles Reported vs. Unreported. Usually the stats rise and fall together. The latest trend over the last 4 or 5 years is showing an inverse correlation.
      For the tests 2015-2020, in cities with a population over 1 million, reports resulting in an arrest were running about 44%. Since 2020, that number has dropped precipitously every year down to a current level of about 20%. Current stats show that roughly 8% of violent crimes result in an arrest/ resolution, and property crimes are a horrendously low 1% .
      More crimes go unreported because of changes in policing and policy... primarily policy... more crimes aren't being reported or acted upon. That will give a false sense of crime being on the decline. Unreported crimes are on the rise according to the NCVS.

    • @Mike80528
      @Mike80528 2 місяці тому

      If someone is homeless and jobless (not all, but most, homeless are jobless), then how do they acquire food or resources? Do idiots really think they can manage solely on the generosity of others?
      That said, I do think many homeless are stuck in a catch-22, and society makes it worse as there are no longer options to be self-sufficient (living off the wild land in any way). You either work in society or are cast out with no options to survive. I don't have an answer to that, but the rule of society must be enforced consistently and uniformly.

    • @geoffreylincicome7298
      @geoffreylincicome7298 2 місяці тому

      @@Mike80528bro all that is said by someone whose never lived with homeless people or who was never homeless.
      You know what gets you out of homelessness? Determination. Willingness to be better willingness to strive for better. I've lived with homeless people who made more than I did a day when I worked a legal job.
      They have the means and fortunately the time to get themselves out they CHOOSE not to.
      This catch 22 you believe exists is false... homeless will never become better if all we see them is as charity cases or that they are victims. That will actually create that mentality and attitude inside of homeless people. Falsely creating a sense that they are owed something. They are not.

      @@tubester4567 That's certainly true, but I don't think the OP was suggesting that the homeless were committing the bulk of the crimes either. She just seems to be making a general statement about Americans being concerned with the separate issues of homelessness and crime, along with it affects quality of life. With that said though, there's no question that homelessness and crime are linked. Most individuals who are homeless didn't end up that way because they're the most sane, stable, intelligent, hard-working people with no personal issues, and that they somehow just ran into a rough patch and some bad circumstances. As a recovering addict who has been both homeless and spent considerable time incarcerated, I know all too well about the close link between alcoholism/addiction and crime. I think it's a safe estimation to say that the vast majority of homeless people likely have mental health issues or problems with alcoholism/addiction, and there's no doubt that a rather large portion of homeless individuals have a criminal record or actively engage in criminal activities as a part of their lifestyle. Although I'm fairly Libertarian with most of my views as a conservative and am all for helping people in those situations to an extent, there's a delicate balance between assisting the 'needy' and enabling self-serving, criminal, or deviant behavior. The fact is that we live in an amazing country with plenty of options and resources for well-intentioned people who are legitimately going thru a rough patch or bad circumstances, and there is abundant opportunity for those who are willing to work hard and practice discipline/personal responsibility. We reap what we sow in this life.

      That has always been that way. Cops cant just show up to deal with something like that unless the property owner makes a complaint. Best they could do is knock on the door and ask some questions. They can't go inside, they won't get a search warrant based on some neighbors calling to complain. And they are short handed in most places as it is. Don't blame the cops, like they could just enforce the laws if they _wanted_ to butv they are too lazy. They already have to deal with constantly arresting serious criminals only to have them walk with no bail, and a slap on the wrist if and when they actually show for trial. Most charges are just dropped. If they don't get fired and villified in the media for doing their jobs. What do you want them to do, launch a full scale investigation? Kick the door in and clear the house out for you and hope the neighbor didn't actually give them permission to be there? Hell they probably have squatters rights and the cops will be fired for violating their rights.

Eventually I came across a recruiting station for the Army, signed up and did 14 years before the cumulative damage to my body made continued service impossible. To wrap up, I was a petty thief, a loaf of bread, a couple produce items and a package of lunch meat, but I don't think that made me a bad person. He actually has a good family, has a wonderful and loving mother as well as 2 sisters who are happily married who are all willing to help him and take him in. He is one of many like this. And he’s been to jail countless times since he’s been 16 or so (he is 46 now). Every one of the men I’ve met and known who are homeless “by choice” have at least 2 mental disorders diagnosis and have been to jail multiple times all with a violent crime history.
    Yet these pandering idiots sit in their shi shi cafes drinking their soy lattes while renting out their $5000 apartments who’ve never met a homeless person let alone work with one and would probably run from them if approached by them in the streets continue to spew this nonsense. It seems to me that we might need to revisit the idea of insane asylums again. Maybe we could try them without the torture and medical experimentation this time. Just because a system was horribly abused in the past doesn't necessarily mean the whole idea was without merit.

    He's also wrong about people not thinking about when crime doesn't happen to them. I left a major city for a rural area and every day I think about how safe it is. I start work at 2am in a nearby small town and have to walk across a decent sized parking lot and dark and secluded market area to get to my building and in 2 years of being here I've never even felt sketched out. The strangest thing I've had happen to me was an elderly lady approaching me asking me if I could get her a coffee from my work because she missed the last bus home. The kind of person approaching me if I were still in the city at 2am in a dark parking lot would not have been a confused old lady. I would also constantly be worried about my car. Here I feel like I could leave it unlocked and there'd be no problem.
