A more literal translation of the Japanese would be: As for things that you like, are (you) not going to do it by yourself? As for things that (you) hate, (you're) just being taught by others. (I) like tuna so much, so (I) earnestly learn by myself. Which is why the Japanese sentence seems longer than the English. I'm marking all of the subjects because it does not exist in the Japanese sentence. Japanese sentences often omit the subject.
This video is so good I've watched it so many times I cant count them. The tone it has from the beggining till the 8th minute is all aboit work and how it goes for him in a daily basis. From there on is all about his story and what he can tell us about it. What it means for him to be a professional, the best tuna, what he loves, his craft and the final quote... I would PAY to have him talk about himself at my university. What an amazing video about an outstanding man.
Totally wrong though, the head is like a pice of leather. I am a commercial tuna fisherman and I have bought many fish, the scar doesn't affect the cost. This guy is being dramatic for the camrea. The head is literally impenetrable.
Only a handful of people can be reliable like this. Hundreds of business owners rely on gentlemen like Tuna King here day after day knowing that he will make what they need happen. I feel this is one of those quotes that sounds wise to dumb ppl but is not really true though at all... for many things its great to learn from others and you would be considered excessively arrogant if you assumed you could just teach yourself. I love many things that I have been humble enough to admit there are others that know much more about this topic than me and have been curious and eager to learn from others.. the passing on of information from human to human is so important to our nature and success as a species. Also its impossible to teach urself something completely unless u have invented it completely independently urself.. if it existed before much of what u learn has been passed on by another human being .. if you count reading books and learning things as teaching yourself you are wrong because this is still others teaching you.. take learning to play the piano.. for example .. unless u invent the piano and teach yourself completely independent of any other human being you will have already had multiple ppl teaching u before u even sit down to play the first time...

There’s one thing about Japanese culture that’s very endearing to me. It’s not what you do for a living, it’s how you do it that matters. It’s an amazing way to live, because everyone cares deeply about what they do. Everyone works hard because nobody feels ashamed about their job.
How do you know this? Have you asked every Japanese person. Odds are, just as many Japanese people hate their jobs as do people in other countries. Maybe they don't show it, but they still do.
When I was in Japan, I watched this man portion a whole tuna. I fished on a commercial fishing boat in the South Pacific jig fishing for Albacore for a Japanese buyer. We would meet a “Fish Technician” in Tahiti & he would grade the fish. Every fish had to be head gaffed. It is difficult as the boat is moving & your pulling fish by hand as fast as you can. That experience taught me how serious Japan is about their fish. Beautiful video.
His bankai creates a giant fish he can control that tries to swallow the enemy, regenerating instantly whenever it is damaged while his blade gets even bigger. If the fish swallows you, its stomach liquids seal your abilities and poisons/paralyzes you. He can slice through the giant fish to instantly kill you without harming the fish. It also can emit versatile waves of water that can slice and incapacitate at a distance. He can create water walls to block attacks, too. As the battlefield fills with water, the fish becomes faster and stronger.
I've never really liked seafood, no-matter what I try it always has that same unique fishy taste to it that for some reason makes me nauseous. Yet after watching a video like this it makes me wonder if Tuna would be a different experience, it looks like the steak of the sea.
@@_Saracen_ Tuna does indeed have less of a fishy taste than other types. Maybe try canned tuna at some point (though it tastes completely different from the tuna they use for 🍣) and if you have a good sushi restaurant nearby go and try a couple of pieces there. Humankind has constantly ignored God and His message for too long. We act in the place of God who is the creator of nature and the universe. Our sheer arrogance and total disregard for God and His son Jesus Christ have brought all these miseries and miscalculations. Science with all its 'benefits' and ramifications cannot and will never replace God's message of salvation to humankind through His only begotten son Jesus Christ. Therefore my friend if you desire to have eternal life after your short stay on earth then you must settle the sin factor through believing the atonement that Jesus Christ made on the cross of Calvary. All humankind is born as sinners and no sinner will inherit God's kingdom. Please repent from your sins and give your life to Jesus Christ so that you can have the righteousness of God which is only in Jesus. dclm.org/
This is one of my favorite channels by far. Seeing the passion that these people hold for their profession does a lot to my spirit. “If you love what you do, you’ll teach yourself. If you don’t, someone else will teach you” Amen
"If you love it, you'll teach yourself. If you don't love it, others teach you." That quote really resonates with me, as I've been of a mind to teach myself blacksmithing, instead of going to a school for it, or finding a master. I want to explore it for myself, and find my own success with it. After having been "taught" things I didn't care about my whole life going through regular school and college, I feel for the first time that I'm learning something truly worthwhile and exciting. I can definitely understand how Mr. Yamaguchi must've felt back then, and probably still feels now, doing what he loves. He has pride in his work, and takes responsibility for the product. This is a man worthy of respect.
He had a master.. His father...If want to learn smithing find a craftsman.. They want to pass on their skills and knowledge. They want to keep the art alive. Save you a tremendous amount of time. Be humble and respectful and they will show you everything..
@@thereissomecoolstuff There are definitely advantages to having a mentor, and to anyone who has one in mind that'd be willing to teach them, I'd say go for it. My father is a well-known luthier (and craftsman/handyman of many other categories), and I've been learning his craft as well. But the point behind that quote, is that if you truly enjoy what you're doing, you'll go above and beyond what someone else could simply direct you to do. My father is a great craftsman, but there are things you *can't* teach someone - it's up to each person to learn all they can, from any source, and continue raising the bar. Another quote comes to mind, "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink." With as many sources of knowledge as there are on the internet, as well as more books existing than anyone has ever had access to in previous times, it's very easy to immerse yourself in any sort of craft. Fundamental information, project ideas, instructional videos, bits of wisdom and efficiency from experienced hands, not to mention networking and discussion of both masters and novices, and everyone in between... all of that is obtainable without ever having any formal apprenticeship or schooling. Sure, a mentor can help guide you through it, and perhaps bring out more of your potential (if they're exceptional teachers), but for people that don't have any (or at least easy) access to such people, they must find their own way. Some people even learn better teaching themselves, such as myself. You say having a mentor will "save you a tremendous amount of time", but that time spent figuring things out for yourself is absolutely *crucial.* A person who's learned through trial and error, and careful observation is much more knowledgeable and competent than one who's simply been instructed to do it the "right" way, and hasn't experienced their efforts amounting to very little. Failure is necessary, and those with the drive to push beyond it will have an advantage over those who took the easier path. I like to think of this age we live in as the "age of the autodidact", as there has been no better time in history for it. As long as there is information and people willing to absorb and apply it, a craft will never die. Blacksmithing in particular is on the rise.
I like it when he can pretty much identify where it came from by their scars. Like the tuna with a possible spear punch from maybe North Carolina. Amazing work sir. Watching you is an art
If you ever want to question what passion looks like. Watch these videos and how Japanese people talk about how much they love to do something. Awesome.
Many people think he blamed fishermen in North Carolina. But actually he didn't apply the idea to all of them. He just blamed only fishermen who fish by leisure fishing, not professional people. Also it's not only North Carolina, but also Boston to him. The subtitle is a bit inaccurate. for example, 7:14 should be changed to "Of course I believe there are professional fishermen (in North Carolina)".

When the lady volleyball team, er, never mind.) and the boat owner/captain knew you knew. You bring the beef into there boat and iki jime his bad self, gut and hang because the middleman and the final customer-probably a Japanese business man or a salary man- expect the best handling and actually puts trust in the whole system. As for things that you like, are (you) not going to do it by yourself? As for things that (you) hate, (you're) just being taught by others. (I) like tuna so much, so (I) earnestly learn by myself.
Which is why the Japanese sentence seems longer than the English. I'm marking all of the subjects because it does not exist in the Japanese sentence. Japanese sentences often omit the subject.

"If you love it, you'll teach yourself. If you don't love it, others teach you."
That quote really resonates with me, as I've been of a mind to teach myself blacksmithing, instead of going to a school for it, or finding a master.
Another quote comes to mind, "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink."
With as many sources of knowledge as there are on the internet, as well as more books existing than anyone has ever had access to in previous times, it's very easy to immerse yourself in any sort of craft.
He's the tuna king while sleeping 4 hours/night. With that sleeping routine, I wouldn't be the sardine slave
