What an awesome home studio, wow. Very specific to his exacting standards, very impressive. The floor to ceiling glass wall is stunning, all the thought and attention to the mic stands, video cameras, and so on is borderline OCD. I'm a technology geek as well, and my head was spinning from it all. So freaking cool. And then the contrast with the simplicity of his desk, with the racks and 500 series (and small monitor), shows his focus is, at it's always been, on making music. Mad respect for the musician, and studio designer in him.

Many successful musicians that came up in the 70s made a fortune. It's unfortunate that today it's much more difficult for that to happen.

Ray used to record all the instruments in his albums when he was young, in the early 80s. He said that way he saved time and money during the production. I was LUCKY enough to get to watch him in the role of producer for a soul singer back in 1987, and it was amazing.
I always figured it must have been what watching Prince was like - Ray was playing EVERYTHING, and he was FAST!
After watching him I considered quitting because he was LIGHT YEARS ahead of me.
