I don't think that statement is true. Uncle Phil wanted to stamp that foundation of structure in Will's life. Will bringing home a friend from his home town seem like trouble repeating itself.
I really don't think Uncle Phil knew the MEGA level of intelligence, talent, and drive he was repeatedly tossing out of the house. Admittedly, neither did I. But now... we all know! Thank you for this amazing interview and studio tour, Sweetwater and the truly Magnificent DJ Jazzy Jeff. What an inspiring and beautiful creative soul.
Man chases his bliss and finds it. Wholesome as it gets. And as we all got older, he made it so he can just play in all our living rooms. Love this guy to death, he's always been more musically interesting than most DJs around. Three cheers for Jeff!
Loved the whole video... But when you said "turning the volume up at the fade out, that's where the magic was, wanting to know what happened after the song", man that's exactly what I've always done, even as a kid. Also "it's not overkill to want the best sound anywhere I go." Love it so much.
I just love how he says "Im working on album with Bob James right now and I'm working on an Album with Rakim right now" so casually. Pure professional! I'm excited to hear those projects
@DJ Jazzy Jeff is my compass to chase your passion I respect him so much when I met him at Namm you could feel the energy from this guy He's truly genuine it all makes sense now
Even if you don’t like hip hop you HAVE to know and acknowledge Jazzy Jeff for he is one of the founders of a whole style of music that is still relevant today. I salute you …. Also I just want to stay in that Studio for just one night 😅
This interview with DJ Jazzy Jeff is very inspiring. Like him Im experiencing some health issues everytime I dj in the club. Im 48. In my mind I can still DJ and play at the clubs every night by my body says no. Its really hard to let go something you really love to do and you are doing for almost half of your life. I have a DJ Store / DJ school before called KR8 Manila but I close it down because I moved here in Shanghai China but I have some friends and former students that still want to learn from me. I really want to have my own studio so I can still continue what I love to do. This interview inspired me alot.
makes me miss being back in 88-91. dj jazzy jeff and the fresh prince, ninja turtles and ghostbusters, mc hammer, magic and jordan, bean bags and nintendo. that culture was in white households, loved, and a part of my best memories i'll never forget. wish i could go back.
4:13 Heart-wrenching to hear! Heart-wrenching! Man, the feeling I got inside when I heard that! I'd imagine Jazz's feeling is the same I've had just from losing a unique mixtape! Then multiply that times ten, I guess!
The stuff we own sometimes ends up owning us... I sold my entire studio to travel fun time abroad with nothing but a laptop and a midi controller. For me the ultimate plug-in is pure inspiration, humanity and fresh air.
Going into DJ. Jazzy Jeff's studio would literally be like a meditative walk in a serene forest trail for me. The vintage Rhodes piano is what closed to case for me. Euphoria. That studio is a producer's Disneyland. That is truly a Creative utopia. Thank you for this. P.o.p.
My all time favorite Dj ever , I am a Dj myself since 1984. I sometimes try to play my sets just like you, started out on turntables and now using my Ddj 1000, my traktor scratch pro with dicers
Whoa, DJ Jazzy Jeff!! As a rock musician I always had TONS of respect for Jeff. His music was always unique compared to his contemporaries! He is as authentically passionate about music as anyone I have ever seen yet he is so down to earth!! Much respect!!
Much respect to this legend of hip-hop for standing his ground in the business! Jeff is also one of the reasons why I started DJing and producing my own music since 1994!!! I’m also a long time customer of Sweetwater since 2015!
Literally Magnificent, iLove Jazzy Jeff’s level of absorption in his soul passion… amazing , how he’s first album with The Fresh Prince had samples of Bob James, now he’s producing albums with him , great circles of connections with architects of innovators and living music legends. Soul glad he fuelled more gusto to create his own studio, and evolving sound.
I'm a software guy, but bought some Physical sythersizors, one being Novation Peak, I like to play around with it but still actually used it in My music yet after 2 years.
Jazzy Jeff, you spoke the words that are swirling around in my heart and mind. I too have been blessed to put out music with my son, a true joy ❤. I have shared the same words regarding finding “your sound” with him and put him on that journey.
Your are absolutely an inspiration and a joy to listen to. I’m blessed to be able to enjoy the wonder of Sweetwater and the amazing people that work there. Thank you for sharing your journey.
Yo mark 25:05....he said everything right there!! "The chord changes...running to turn the song up at the end of the song. That's where the last little bit of magic is." So it's not just me and my brother N'Namdi...!! MADD RESPECT!!
DJ Jazzy Jeff, you and I are on the same wavelength. I'm not a musician, but I am into music and sound. I call my Internet radio station on Mixcloud "The Sound Connection" as a testament to my love of hearing recorded music as the artists intended.
This was brilliant. So good to see behind the scenes of Jazzy Jeff’s studio and also how it came about. I’ve been there with the experience of an engineer not doing what I had told them to do and did the same thing. Started buying my own equipment to record at home. Thanks for interviewing Jazzy Jeff👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
WHEWWWW! I am in awe😮 of the grit, and the grind DJ JAZZY JEFF has continued to put forth, not only for himself, but for all his millions of fans who love music like he does! I will say this, and no more. Respect this brother, not only for his production, and DJ skills, but for what he has done for his people, as far as bringing us closer to one come goal, and that is to leave the hate alone, and all races come together with love to the sounds of music! Great job! My brother Jeff! PS... can I have a lesson on how to build a small studio, and how to maximize my sounds, because I'm not hearing what I want to hear!

I don't think that statement is true. Uncle Phil wanted to stamp that foundation of structure in Will's life. Will bringing home a friend from his home town seem like trouble repeating itself.

Living legend! And he can cut his own vinyl...😳😳😳..super dope!!!
Man chases his bliss and finds it. Wholesome as it gets. And as we all got older, he made it so he can just play in all our living rooms. Love this guy to death, he's always been more musically interesting than most DJs around. Three cheers for Jeff!
It really hits home when he says he's currently in a creative utopia, and I 100% believe him haha

Loved the whole video... But when you said "turning the volume up at the fade out, that's where the magic was, wanting to know what happened after the song", man that's exactly what I've always done, even as a kid. Also "it's not overkill to want the best sound anywhere I go." Love it so much.
I don’t know much about DJ Jazzy Jeff, but in the first two minutes he’s inspired me no end.
listen to the work he did with Will Smith in the late 80s, fantastic work!
He was a very good actor as well in the original fresh prince series.
Yeah yhats all that matters in the end
He’s only part of the first hiphop group to win a Grammy. Nothing worth knowing about lol
