Jimmy is on of the most underrated drummers , during his 90’s recording he did some amazing stuff .Every one goes on about Dave groul as if he was Phil Collins or Steven Adler. But Jimmy banging on those trash cans during cherub rock set the tone of the whole album .
When I didn't think Jimmy could impress me anymore than he currently does, I saw him live w Frank Catalano (prepandemic). It was totally different to see him in that style, I was not sure what to expect. But it was amazing. He is truly one of the greats.

Dave has a punk back ground where it Jimmy has a jazz influence witch you can hear in songs like Porcellina and the vast oceans. Then there the drummer from tool he quite good as well. Being a good musician it’s always about being technical ( witch unfortunately eat up a lot of my time, I should devote more to playing songs) but more so creating “ Atmosphere “ which Iha and Corgan most certainly created , also Peter hook and Bernard stumner of joy division . Not too mention Hamilton and headfeild . I think it really about finding that certain chemical combination too create that certain “ Atmosphere “ .

Just because the mainstream choose to focus on certain individuals doesn’t mean we can’t open our ears too others . Even different types of sounds , from the electronic synth sets of the new wave/ New Romantics , sounds of the steal drum of reggae too the Progressive sounds of the African Congo’s . There is a wide range of drumming style , that have over shadowed by today’s lame stream sound of Taylor swift , Ed Sheridan and Justin Babers “ Twit wit pop “ music . You it incredibly dull and boring now , the music scene at one point was quite diverse. Where everyone was carving out there own sounds. Where as now it is a generic bowl of soup that all tastes the same.
Just stoked to hear Jimmy talk about Jazz. Huge Pumpkins fan and as much as Billy's guitars are key, Jimmy's drumming steals the show every time. Great to hear these guys nerd out. Thanks.

When I first started playing drums about 25 years ago, jimmy was (and still is) one of my favorites to listen to and watch. He’s one of the best there is imo!
It seems like a bunch of the comments are about praising Jimmy. If you like his drumming I would recommend the Jimmy Chamberlin Complex; their latest album Honor is super interesting (a mix of paychedelic and jazz). He also played with Frank Catalano on an album named Bye Bye Blackbird, mostly contemporary jazz. Skysaw, which he mentions here, is also a great band. I own the album Great Civilizations; sort of a new prog sound. Just showing Jimmy some love. One of the greatest drummer of our generation.
Well Japanese Breakfast just picked Shin Joong Hyun so I guess I gotta pick that up. Doesn't bother me that Corgan isn't here, he gets plenty of play. That Shin Joong Hyun album is amazing. Has been on near constant loops on my Spotify for a couple of years now. Sounds really modern and original despite its age, but also has some clear references to Nico and that kind of thing as well
Love listening to Jimmy talk about music. These guys have such diverse tastes between them, hopefully Billy will actually let them have a bit more input on the next Pumpkins album.
I know Zeitgeist is not exactly loved, probably in large part due to the mixing and high expectations it faced on release, but for Jimmy's drumming alone it's worth reconsideration -
My first album I got given was Dramarama by my dad so I’d leave him and my mom alone (so they could slam heroin in peace) and sent me off to the front of our trailer to the stereo and showed me how to flip the tape and press play.. use the headphones. He never really knew what he gave me that day. I found the love of my life and the thing that made me feel safe. The first album I realllllly connected with and got 100% on my own was Korns debut. I was already very much listening to music any chance I got and had tons of tapes by then.. but that’s the album where I started building on. These dudes have great taste. Musicians’ musicians 👏 thanks dudes.

No Jimmy, no Pumpkins. Like Stephen Perkins, he's crazy underrated. A Fela influence - makes sense, in retrospect. You can hear the "Tony Allen" in the Pumpkins - set them apart. And Jimmy Chamberlain's kinda got a little Laurie Metcalf thing happening. 😉

I don’t like any of his new albums but I totally respect the change in sound over the past 20 years, can’t expect a band to ONLY play 90s music for their entire career or else they’d just become a gimmick band.

It has this overall cohesive feel, but little individual stories told in the type of writing that transports you into the songs. I really love it. It makes me feel a very specific way when I listen to it, and that way is hopeful and content. You should absolutely give it a listen.

Off topic, and maybe it's just me, but Jimmy is giving me vibes of both Tom Cavanagh ( who is a year older at 57, plays Harrison Wells in "The Flash") and Julian McMahon (also in his 50s at 52, most notable for playing Victor Von Doom in the arguably the more successful version of the "Fantastic 4" films), if both actors had a shared sibling.
Jeff is wearing my brothers band shirt! He's a fan them. I haven't met him yet but my brother says he's one of the sweetest souls he's ever met. I actually took a picture with 10 years ago. Hopefully I'll meet the band one day! Pumpkins are my favorite!

Jimmy is my favourite drummer from the 90's... he's so incredibly melodic. Everytime I listen to things such The Everlasting Gaze, it blows my mind!

Saw him (Jimmy) with SP in Montréal in ‘93. Really professional and chops to spare. Low key but high skilled. Nice to see what the greats listen to.
