So glad to see you show some love for Randy Newman. He has been one of my favorite artists for years and I can’t tell you how much I love Sail Away. Friends and other music folks I run into often overlook Randy but I think he’s up there with all the best American songwriters. There’s a reason why Dylan once said something along the lines of “Randy is in another league” and went on to praise him as one of Dylan’s favorite songwriters.
I found your channel, while scrolling through UA-cam viewing suggestions. Since then I’ve subscribed and have watched all of your recent uploads and many from your archive. You have been very influential in my music purchase of late, discovering many artists I was not overly familiar with. My music tastes are very similar to yours. The sixties and seventies are still my favourites, as that’s my generation. Seven years ago my wife’s cancer returned after 27 years of remission. We made the decision to sell our house and move to an apartment. I donated my vinyl and CD collections along with my stereo equipment to the Sally Ann due to lack of space in the apartment, and more importantly, my priorities at the time had changed drastically. After my wife’s passing, six years ago, I decided to get back into music and replaced my stereo system and began the process of reacquiring as much of my music as possible. Because of space, I’m sticking to CDs, which I don’t regret. Up to now I’ve been able to replace about a thousand and the search continues. So many are out of print and are very rare, and if can be found are just too expensive. Anyway, I really just wanted to thank you for your videos, and I look forward more to come.
Nice surprise to see « The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society » in your selection, an album that I discovered when I was well in my 40s. I would almost solely listen to that album for a couple of weeks at the time. Admittedly I haven’t listened to it for a long time now, however, I warmly recommend it.
Can't even choose my top albums this year, let alone all time! Constantly changing depending on mood, time of year or not discovered yet, and if I listen to something too often it gets boring, even if I love it. Variety is the key.
I never get tired of listening to great songs over and over. I could listen to Wouldn't It Be Nice, Summer/Highland Falls or Baba O'Reily all day just to name a few.
Hey Mazzy. Love that the Who's Tommy made it for your top 10. Tommy was the first record I fell in love with by the Who. And there's my favorite Kinks record! Then Fifth Dimension by the Byrds - you're on a roll! Enjoyable vid! Cheers!
My List TODAY Pawn Hearts - Van der Graaf Generator The White Album - The Beatles Thick As A Brick - Jethro Tull Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway - Genesis Lola Versus Powerman And The Moneygoround - The Kinks Greendale - Neil Young Close To The Edge - Yes Tea For The Tillerman - Cat Stevens Physical Graffiti - Led Zeppelin Darwin - Banco del Mutuo Soccorso Sticky Fingers - The Rolling Stones In The Court Of The Crimson King - King Crimson Uomo Di Pezza - Le Orme Blood On The Tracks - Bob Dylan
I love all those albums. I would have a really rough time trying to narrow down my favorite top 10 - I know for sure Pet Sounds and maybe some Springsteen and Elton would make that list. I enjoyed listening to you talk about your faves.
Graham Parker "Howlin' Wind" The Band "The Band" English Beat "Just Can't Stop It" Little Feat "Dixie Chicken" Kinks "Face to Face" Clash "London Calling" Warren Zevon "Warren Zevon" Neil Young "After the Gold Rush" Really liked your list, Mazzy. A really fun episode. Love VM "Veedon Fleece" and Dylan's "Blood on the Tracks". Tomorrow, I'd probably pick a whole different list, but it's fun to do, right.
I think thihs video is one of the most beautiful ever. I use Norman to improve my school English. Every time he manages to point out albums and songs that I did't know. Thank you from Italy.
This was a fantastic musical journey, and I enjoyed every moment- thank you. You and my older brother (he's since passed) were the same age. I'll never forget when he rode his bicycle in a rain storm to buy Revolver when it came out, and we sat in his room and listened to it non-stop. I also had older cousins who were a few years older than he was, and they always brought their latest rock records over to our house. "Are You Experienced" "Steppenwolf" "Sgt. Pepper" "Rubber Soul". Records by the Rolling Stones, The Who, Lovin' Spoonful and Cream were often being played up in my brothers room on his Sears phonograph. Those feelings and emotions have never left me, and is why I am still collecting and enjoying records more than 50+ years later.
I enjoyed your comment, and I had to check to see if it was one of my younger brothers posting it! Just kidding, as I'm still here, but being the same age as Mazzy and therefore, the same age as your older brother, I was also the one who first started buying the records, albeit 45s at first. My 3 younger brothers were the ones who would - as one confessed some years ago - come into my room while I was away and play my records. In hindsight, I try to confirm my "badass" credentials by telling people that the first album I bought was "In-a-Gadda-da-Vida" by Iron Butterfly. One of my brothers will then punch a hole in my balloon by saying that, before that, I was buying 45s by The Archies ("Sugar, Sugar")and the 1910 Fruitgum Company ("1, 2, 3 Redlight")! Ah well, we all have skeletons in our closet.
Love all the picks Mazzy. I think every single one of them is justified at being in the top ten! I’m a big Nick Cave fan, absolutely love the Beatles, The Kinks, Kate Bush, just excellent choices! I’ll guess I’ll try an take a shot here with… 1. Skylarking - XTC 2. Ghosteen - Nick Cave 3. The Village Green Preservation Society - The Kinks 4. Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band - The Beatles 5. Countdown to Ecstasy - Steely Dan 6. Foxtrot - Genesis 7. Yes - Close to the Edge 8. Hunky Dory - David Bowie 9. Moving Pictures - Rush 10. Avalon - Roxy Music
Dear Mazy, "Good Day Sunshine", I had this song in my head, as my Mom and I prepared for a Church supper. Thank for sparking me that moment again. Best, D.
Village Green - so lovely to see this album come up on your list. It's all the things you've said about it. And it shows that despite its 'Englishness', people elsewhere get it equally, probably because the themes in it are universal.
Great selection. While I have many of these, they wouldn't make my top ten. Like all your videos though, this really encourages me to go and give them a spin. Some new ones for me to look for too. Cheers Mazzy, great fun.
VERY engaging video about the List! I was enthralled by many of your "micro-commentaries"! Very **humane**, if that makes sense. I'll have to look at some of your other eps here now! Cheers!
Only following you for a short time, I was not surprised by many of these choices. But I saw an outlier, seemingly, in your choice of Sea Change. I suppose a 2002 album can represent "modern day" in comparison to all the others except Boatman's Call ('97). Sea Change does sound classic in a 60s-70s sense, with modern decorations dotted around it. Glad to hear you pronounce Ray Davies' name the way he says it! Entertaining post, thanks!
My top ten Beatles. Abby Road Pink Floyd Dark Side The Door's Waiting for the Sun U2. Joshua Tree Jethro Tull Aqualung Traffic Low Spark It's a Beautiful Day White Bird The Rascals it's a Beautiful Day The Animals. House of the rising sun Im almost 70 and I still listen to all While having a drink and a puff
Hi Dear Sir Mazzy. Love your videos. Your knowledge and live of music keep me coming back to your wondrous videos. I agree with your entries.... to your top 10. We have similar tastes. God bless.
Admittedly I drifted away there for a bit, but a rainy day (along Lake Superior shore) has brought me back into the fold. Interesting list: A Kate Bush line, sampled by the Utah Saints, "I just know something good is going to happen" endeared me to her whole album. Ever heard the Mary Margaret O'Hara album "Miss America"? Nice over all presentation, too, Mazzy. The Beatles' butcher block cover on the wall deep in the shot endeared me to you as well. I stumbled upon a butcher block copy (mono) in a used record store in Dinkytown (U of M), in '70; I still have it. Anyway, as the Kinks might say: "Thank You For the Days." ...and the vid. Keep 'em coming.
Good video! I couldn’t pick a Top Ten for All Time!!! The only surprise was you had no jazz recordings in the list since you talk about jazz music and records a lot on UA-cam stations!!
We all have our favorites. So I'll post mine 1 Dark Side Of The Moon - Pink Floyd 2 If I Could Only Remember My Name - David Crosby 3 Tonight's The Night - Neil Young 4 The Doors 5 Crosby, Stills and Nash 6 Bridge Of Sighs - Robin Trower 7 Tales Of Mystery and Imagination - Alan Parsons Project 8 Days Of Future Passed - Moody Blues 9 Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - Elton John 10 Wake Up, It's Tomorrow - Strawberry Alarm Clock
Pretty awesome list! Well done Here is my current list of Best Ever Albums: 1) Bridge Over Troubled Water / Simon and Garfunkel 2) Abbey Road / The Beatles 3) Quadrophenia / The Who 4) The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan / Bob Dylan 5) Blind Faith / Blind Faith 6) Dire Straits / Dire Straits 7) The Joshua Tree / U2 8) Deja Vu / CSNY 9) So / Peter Gabriel 10) Five Leaves Left / Nick Drake
Glad to say I’ve got 6 of the albums from your top ten. Thank you for your take on each of the albums shown, and after your wise words I’ll now be listening to them in a completely different way….👍👏
Its probably Tommy for me. At the top of their game and it has my favorite Who song Amazing Journey/Sparks. And the cover art was mysterious as a child.
Thanks for your opinions on your favourites. I would also list Randy Newman's Sail Away and Kate Bush Hounds of Love two of my favourites, but not in the top ten. For number one in my top ten would be Revolver by the Beatles. Others in my top ten would include Sly and The Family Stone 'Stand', Bob Dylans'Blood On The Tracks', Janis Ian's Breaking Silence, Mahavishnu Orchestra 'Inner Mountain Flame', Gordon Lightfoot Sundown, Carole King Tapestry', Bob Marley and The Wailers Natty Dread', Don McLean American Pie', The Rascals 'See' and Gal Costa 'Bem Bom. Runners up would be Joni Mitchell 'Blue' Weather Report 'Mysterious Traveller, The Beatles Sgt. Pepper, and my Under The Radar album. Although I didn't list any of my own albums in the top 10, my 'Run The Gauntlet' was considered #112 on a list(forgot the magazine) of all greatest albums.
Good idea on the "best" removal, musical taste is a subjective and personal thing, memories associated with music plays into it. When you have an open mind towards music it's freeing and allows you to experience it better. I had the Kate Bush album back then and played it often, others here are new to me but i will check them out.
I have loved Randy Newman's music the moment ever since I saw him perform on TV with a small orchestra. I met him once at The Berklee College of Music in Boston and that was a thrilling moment for sure.
Thanks for this… Hooray for the kinks… Speaking of harmony, though even though everybody has heard it a zillion times the first Boston album really is the pinnacle. I’m with you on the Simon and Garfunkel….
Excellent video tackling such a complex topic. You nailed it, unsurprisingly. I adore Revolver, The Boatman’s Call, and Blonde On Blonde. They would all find places in my top 100. From there Hounds of Love is a masterpiece, and I only heard Sail Away for the first time recently but you’re right that it’s an amazing record. My top ten as of today would be 1.) Stevie Wonder- Songs in the Key of Life 2.) Bruce Springsteen- Born To Run 3.) Kendrick Lamar- To Pimp a Butterfly 4.) The Beatles- Abbey Road 5.) Metallica- Master of Puppets 6.) Soundgarden- Superunknown 7.) Madvillain- Madvillainy 8.) John Coltrane- A Love Supreme 9.) Genesis- Foxtrot 10.) Tool- Ænima Highly Honorable Mentions to Dream Theater- Scenes From A Memory David Bowie- Ziggy Stardust Rush- Permanent Waves Iron Maiden- Powerslave Yes- Close to the Edge
Every album you mentioned is unequivocally a gem. It's interesting that you placed Fifth Dimension by the Byrds in your top ten as I love the albums' innovative metaphysical/spiritual psychedelic songs. Many would have listed Younger Than Yesterday, Notorious Byrd Brothers or Sweetheart of the Rodeo. Perceptive insights into each album!
@@mikeymutual5489 I agree with you that Gene Clark was a songwriting genius with albums like White Light & No Other. However, Gene left in 1966 as the Byrds were creatively ascending. The remaining Byrds stepped up and created their master works such as Younger Than Yesterday, and Notorious Byrd Brothers.
@@denniswood1437 They were not "creatively ascending." They relied on Gene for his songs, and only started songwriting after he left. And it took some time for good songs to come.
@@mikeymutual5489 It is true that Gene was the prominent and most prolific writer on the first two albums. McGuinn actually wrote a number of songs with Gene such as "You Showed Me." from early on. It simply is not true that they just started writing after Gene left. Gene was great but so was McGuinn, Crosby & Hillman. You're trying to rewrite history to fit your thesis that Gene was the only Byrd.
????? But it has Yellow Submarine on it. Boy, that ain't a great song !!!!! Not the worst Beatles song (see Act Naturally), but definitely an embarrassing song to listen to.
Revolver blew my mind on first listen. In 1980, I was aged 12 and my parents went out. I didn’t own much then and pulled out this black and white album. It was an original mono pressing I still own. I listened three times back to back. Just ridiculously good.
1) Bob Dylan - Blood on the Tracks 2) Simon and Garfunkel - Bridge Over Troubled Water 3) Joni Mitchell - Court and Spark 4) The Band - The Band 5) The Beatles - Rubber Soul 6) Carol King - Tapestry 7) James Taylor - Sweet Baby James 8) The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds 9) Crosby Stills Nash and Young - Deja Vu 10) Fleetwood Mac - Rumours 11) The Eagles - Hotel California
Must get the Beck and Nick Cave albums coz you've so frequently raved about 'em. Have the others. Gonna get them down and play 'em all today, which is a Bank Holiday in the UK. Great work, Mazzy.
My top 10: Love-Forever Changes, The Doors-The Doors, Jimi Hendrix Experience- Electric Ladyland, Van Morrison-Moondance, Bob Dylan-John Wesley Harding, The Beatles-The White Album, Neil Young-Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, The Byrds- Notorious Byrd Brothers, Rolling Stones-Beggars Banquet, David Crosby-If I Could Only Remember My Name
I bought the LP when it first came out so I’ve been listening to it for a long time. Some of the songs, A House Is Not A Motel and Bummer In The Summer, are accessible right away. The rest of the songs get better the more you listen to them. John Echols is an underrated guitar player who can play a variety of styles. Arthur Lee is a true original and the album has always been popular in the UK. I have the first three Love albums and love them all.@@gostrum1
Hello Mazzy! Great video by the way. Like your list of albums of all time. Especially Revolver by the Beatles. Revolver is also my favorite Beatles album.
Great picks, Mazzy. Here's my list of top 10 albums that didn't make yournda list, not in any order. Didn't include any Beatles because they are The Beatles. All their music is on all the lists. gonna have to do my homework on this one! I love Revolver, Village Green, Hounds of Love, and Blonde on Blonde but need to check out the rest. I wasn't alive when most of this stuff released so I absolutely love hearing your perspective on these. My top albums are a mixed bag of old and new: Ok Computer - Radiohead Titanic Rising - Weyes Blood You're My Lover Now - The Teeth RAM - Paul McCartney Rubber Soul - The Beatles Fate - Dr. Dog Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd Feels - Animal Collective The Soft Bulletin - The Flaming Lips Veckatimest - Grizzly Bear
100 percent on your Beatles comments. The teachers of our lives... and the leader for those who followed record after record. Nice list. I wish I had a top ten I could live with w/o editing every 5 years. In The Court of the Crimson King is my number one. My Beatles always changes. Right now its the rawness of Let It Be. That back to basics thing. You have a nice list there. Thanks for the clip.
Thank you. I find people hype up albums as great but when you do a top 10, 20, 50 etc off all time, you know the albums are loved deeply. I was delighted you picked Saint Dominic's Preview. Its my favourite Van Morrison album as well. Here is my top of today, the number doesnt necessarily denote the order but helps me to keep track of the number of albums 1 A Trick of the Tail - Genesis 2 Selling England By The Pound - Genesis 3 Saint Dominic's Preview - Van Morrison 4 Whos Next - The Who 5 Forbidden Songs Of The Dying West - Jackie Leven 6 Wildfire - Elles Bailey 7 A New World Record - Electric Light Orchestra 8 Crime Of The Century - Supertramp 9 The Royal Scam - Steely Dan 10 - Layla abd Other Assorted Love Songs - Derek and the Dominos My bonus is my favourite album thats new to me this year, Living Fossils by William Grey, an Argentinian progressive rock band. I'm sure im going to realise that I've missed an essential album as soon as i send this. It doesn't feel right leaving out David Bowie, Roxy Music, The Beatles, Jim Hunter, Al Stewart and Jess Roden.
Great picks Mazzy; I'm listening to Fifth Dimension now - so good! Here's my Top 10, for now: Beatles - Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band Rolling Stones - Exile on Main Street Jimi Hendrix- Electric Ladyland Miles Davis - Bitches Brew Derek & the Dominos - Layla & Other Assorted Love Songs Van Morrison- Astral Weeks Allman Brothers at Fillmore East Byrds - Younger than Yesterday Led Zeppeling IV Elvis Costello - Imperial Bedroom Hon mentions: Minutemen Double Nickels on a Dime Kraftwerk Computer World
After #1, in no particular order: 1) Quadrophenia - The Who 2) Who's Next - The Who 3) Blood On The Tracks - Bob Dylan 4) Revolver - The Beatles 5) Exile In Guyville - Liz Phair 6) Copper Blue - Sugar 7) Stone Roses - Stone Roses 8) The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society - The Kinks 9) Odessey & Oracle - The Zombies 10) Oh, Inverted World - The Shins Honorable Mention: U2 - The Joshua Tree, Rush - Moving Pictures, Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, Sleater-Kinney - Dig Me Out, REM - Automatic For The People, Joni Mitchell - Blue, English Beat - I Just Can't Stop It, Elvis Costello - King of America, The Beatles - Abbey Road
1. Exile on Main St. (Stones) 2. Sticky Fingers (Stones) 3. Wish You Were Here (PF) 4. Houses of the Holy (LZ) 5. Abbey Road (Beatles) 6. Blonde on Blonde (Dylan) 7. Aladdin Sane (Bowie) 8. Marquee Moon (Television) 9. OK Computer (Radiohead) 10. Discipline (King Crimson)
Thanks Norman for sharing you taste!ι SUPOSE I assume that it's not a "Top Ten albums of all Time" but to be more specific " The Top Ten Pop Albums of All Time from US and UK".
I JUST started my record journey but have committed myself to buying a new record every week. Lucky you, Norman-- you're this week's influencer. So, are you ready to hear which record I've decided to purchase this weekend? Get ready... drum roll please: Kate Bush-- Hounds of Love. Cant wait to spend time taking in this album in and understanding what all the hype is about.
This shows how each of us likes different things for different reasons. That's alright. And I think it's funny, maybe cool even, that we agree 100% on Blonde on Blonde(Bob), and Bookends, which is an amazingly recorded album. I am still struggling with Kate.
I'm with you on 'Tommy' and 'The Kinks Are TVGPS' - in fact, the latter is my favourite album of all. I too would add 'Arthur', 'Something Else', 'Face to Face' and 'Lola vs P&TM' as an indispensable collection. My other indispensable collection would be Eno's first 4 vocal albums! Others would include Fleetwood Mac 'Then Play On', Procol Harum's 'Broken Barricades', 'Led Zep II', Sparks' 'Kimono My House', a Canadian prog band FM and their 'Black Noise' lp, CCR's 'Cosmo's Factory' and Pat Metheny/Lyle Mays 'As Falls Wichita...'. I know you omitted Jazz which does leave out Miles' 'Kind of Blue' for me but the Metheny/Mays album is close enough to Prog so I'm including it. :) I understand the Beatles' sentiments and choice of 'Revolver'. Mine would be my UK 2nd press of 'Abbey Road' ('Revolver' would be next) but for sure, their catalogue is a treasure trove of amazing, ground-breaking music. Thanks for your always entertaining and well thought out videos Mazzy!
I'm from Australia, I'm a bit younger than you but the Kinks' 'Village Green' album is in my top ten as well (got Ray Davies to sign my album cover when he toured in the late 90s - sweet), also you had 'Revolver' there; I have 'Rubber Soul', but seriously, I can barely split those two albums. The Beatles looked their greatest at that time too, the suede jackets and the coolest hair they ever had.
DJ Shadow - Endtroducing Burial - Untrue Jane's Addiction - Ritual De Lo Habitual Nine Inch Nails - Downward Spiral Radiohead - The Bends John Coltrane - Love Supreme The Prodigy - Experience Flaming Lips - Soft Bulletin Neil Young - Harvest Pearl Jam - Vs.
Thanks for posting this rather important video. It clearly got your viewers talking.. I think that's a good thing. Please keep up the great work. Regards, David-
Personally, I think traffics John barleycorn is a top 10 album along with who’s next and a few under the radar ones are Blue Öyster Cult agents of Fortune as well as Aerosmith get your wings top notch music, all of it
Nice list NM. No arguments here. As for Van Morrison 2 of my all time faves from him are Listen to the Lion and Almost Independence Day. And I'm not going to diss even one Beatles song or album.
Love that you love Revolver, but you didn't mention the most amazing song on that album--Tomorrow Never Knows. That to me is the most unique song I've ever heard. There is nothing like that song in all of pop music. Try to play that to a young person today? It's like a dead language. Kids can't fathom it. But to many it's amazing. Certainly, Sui generis.
I listened to every album you listed here. Did they take me back? I heard them coming out fresh and new at a time when music was so vital to my everyday life. The Beatles so dominant in the 60’s, my teen years. Only thing missing from your list I felt was females? None there? I remember liking mostly male vocals, still do, but you didn’t include a single one. Never mind this is a great list I have enjoyed your music choices. Thank you.
I bought ‘Hounds of love’ and Talking Heads ‘Stop making sense’ last week, Xmas presents for my daughter. We share a love of music we play it to each other, send it to each other discover it for each other etc. It’s just fantastic to hear good music, perhaps for the first time. I’m shopping for a turntable right now, it’s been digital music so far. Thanks for your reply.
Have you seen the vid of ‘A woman’s work’ Kate Bush with Tim McInnerney? I saw it for the first time recently, Kate’s voice had me rolling back the years. She’s so special. I’m talking too much. Sorry!
Warren Zevon- Warren Zevon Neil young- on the beach Neko Case- wild creatures Nick Drake - bryter latyer Nick cave - skeleton tree Richard & Linda Thompson - shoot out the lights The Clash - London Calling Elvis Costello- my aim is true Joni mitchell - count & spark Patti Smith - Easter
My list: Astral Weeks (Van Morrison). Blonde On Blonde (Bob Dylan). Every Picture Tells A Story (Rod Stewart). Sticky Fingers (Rolling Stones). Stranded (Roxy Music). Let's Get It On (Marvin Gaye). Blood On The Tracks (Bob Dylan). Caught Up (Millie Jackson). Never A Dull Moment (Rod Stewart). Brothers And Sisters (Allman Brothers Band).
We are all of our time and my Top 10 Albums would change from month to month depending on my memory 😁- first album I ever bought was Bridge Over Troubled Water but I prefer Graceland these days ... 10. Deep Purple - Deep Purple In Rock . 9. Man - Back Into The Future 8. Joni Mitchell - Blue 7. Neil Young - Rust Never Sleeps 6. Emmy Lou Harris - Wrecking Ball 5. The Rolling Stones - Black and Blue 4. AC/DC - Powerage 3. Bob Dylan - Street Legal 2. Paul Simon - Graceland 1. Neil Young - Freedom
Sorry I haven't been commenting lately. I was in the hospital since May and got out 3 weeks ago. I am a diabetic and had my left leg amputated ( my choice and I feel better than I have in years ). Your choices are great. Although I would have included Europe 72 and the Allmans Fillmore show in the top 10 . I really could not due a Top 10 , 20 for sure. Take care Mazzy and talk soon Bruce
Great taste. Very centered in the 60's but absolutley excellent. I'm younger than you (56) and having been influenced by the 60's in my early years of music listener, I was, obviously a child of my own music era, the late 70's, 80's and, as a college student the late 80's and the 90's. In all this refered decades you can find also beautiful, innovative and groundbreaking gems. Yes you refered Beck ("Sea Change" , what a amazing album as you said) and Kate Bush ("Hounds of Love" , again out of this World, like all the others you referred) but I still feel like there is something missing. Thank you very much anyway. 👍👍👍👍👍
Nice list, Norman. Let me share my 5 favourite records ever 1. Tangled up in Blue -Bob Dylan 2. Rubber Soul - The Beatles 3. Abbey Road - The Beatles 4. Aja - Steely . Dan 5. Tapestry -- Carole King 6. Discovery - ELO 7. Sailing - Christopher Cross 8. Synchronicity - The Police 9. Arthur: The decline of the British empire -The Kinks 10. James Taylor Greatest Hits - James Taylor (The first record I´ve ever bought with my own money).
Today. You're very sharp! It's true, some who do this cannot decide . Congrats. Your reviews are sublime.kinks arenot revered as much as they could be.Revolver is so electric! Igrew up with kids singing Hey Jude on the playground so yeah it is part of my childhood
So glad to see you show some love for Randy Newman. He has been one of my favorite artists for years and I can’t tell you how much I love Sail Away. Friends and other music folks I run into often overlook Randy but I think he’s up there with all the best American songwriters.
There's nothing more SUBJECTIVE than music 🎶 Somewhere in East Germany there's a dude doing his top 10 albums of all time ---all Polka music.
Exactly ✌🏼
Nobody listens to Polka in east germany😂. Greetings from Leipzig
Somewhere in Tennessee a dude is doing his top ten list. All banjo music.
Me Am Love Polka ❤
@@AngeloKellyOfficial okay. I'm sorry. Angelo from the Kelly Family listens to Polka.
I’m shocked that nobody is mentioning Joni Mitchell’s Blue album. And thank you to someone who mentioned XTC’s Skylarking album.
A more interesting exercise would be to have more people list their top 10 then determine common picks….Rubber Soul…🎸
She is amazing. "Court and Spark" is in my top 5.
Joni Mitchell music is soooo complex. Maybe that s why I do not put her in my top10.

Cheers!

Thank you Norm. Looks like I’ll be investing in Becks and The Kinks CDs, as I have other music by these artists.
I love your attitude. Feels right, generally- authentic.
It’s quite a challenge removing any of your selections from your list; the Band’s “brown” album is a must for a top ten list. IMHO.
I love all those albums. I would have a really rough time trying to narrow down my favorite top 10 - I know for sure Pet Sounds and maybe some Springsteen and Elton would make that list. I enjoyed listening to you talk about your faves.
I really enjoyed watching this Mazzy. I saw some of my favorites and others I need to listen to. Thank you for sharing your top 10.
Graham Parker "Howlin' Wind"
The Band "The Band"

Kinks "Face to Face"
Clash "London Calling"
Warren Zevon "Warren Zevon"
Neil Young "After the Gold Rush"
Really liked your list, Mazzy. A really fun episode. Love VM "Veedon Fleece" and Dylan's "Blood on the Tracks".
Tomorrow, I'd probably pick a whole different list, but it's fun to do, right.
Veedon Fleece is such a great album
Great that you list "Just Can't Stop It' - I love that record.
@@hapuka66jones37 One of the most underrated records of all time.
Wow where's the black Sabbath deep purple and LED Zeppelin!
I just posted my list and also put that English Beat album in my top 10. I’ve never seen anyone else put it on their top 10 before.
I think thihs video is one of the most beautiful ever. I use Norman to improve my school English. Every time he manages to point out albums and songs that I did't know. Thank you from Italy.
Caio ✌🏼
Mazzy, you make me weak with your obvious love of these artists / music. Thank you !
A great list. My list would probably change on a daily basis but Bookends would be a constant. It is short but pretty near perfect.
Love all the picks Mazzy. I think every single one of them is justified at being in the top ten! I’m a big Nick Cave fan, absolutely love the Beatles, The Kinks, Kate Bush, just excellent choices!
I’ll guess I’ll try an take a shot here with…
1. Skylarking - XTC
2. Ghosteen - Nick Cave
3. The Village Green
Preservation Society - The
Kinks
4. Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band - The Beatles
5. Countdown to Ecstasy - Steely Dan
6. Foxtrot - Genesis
7. Yes - Close to the Edge
8. Hunky Dory - David Bowie
9. Moving Pictures - Rush
10. Avalon - Roxy Music
Nope, nope, yup, yup, big nope, nope, yup, Ziggy Stardust, nope, nope.
number 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, are okay for me...cool
Stephen Stills ' Manassas' is a shoe in for me.
My top ten
Beatles. Abby Road
Pink Floyd Dark Side
The Door's Waiting for the Sun
U2. Joshua Tree
Jethro Tull Aqualung
Traffic Low Spark
It's a Beautiful Day White Bird
The Rascals it's a Beautiful Day
The Animals. House of the rising sun
Im almost 70 and I still listen to all
While having a drink and a puff
Hi Dear Sir Mazzy. Love your videos. Your knowledge and live of music keep me coming back to your wondrous videos. I agree with your entries.... to your top 10. We have similar tastes. God bless.
I like your pick and enjoyed you explanation. My fave album is ELO "Out of the Blue"
Yeah. I specifically said I didn’t include any jazz or sound on this one. And as much as I love jazz, none in my top ten albums of all time.
Loved your presentation and most of your choices, Txs Mazzy!
Thanks for the Randy Newman tip. First time listen, wonderful record
We all have our favorites. So I'll post mine
1 Dark Side Of The Moon - Pink Floyd
2 If I Could Only Remember My Name - David Crosby

6 Bridge Of Sighs - Robin Trower
7 Tales Of Mystery and Imagination - Alan Parsons Project
8 Days Of Future Passed - Moody Blues
9 Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - Elton John
10 Wake Up, It's Tomorrow - Strawberry Alarm Clock
the first 5 are cool......for the rest mwoah
Pretty awesome list! Well done

Just love your stuff: it always feels like dropping in to see an old friend. 🙂
Glad to say I’ve got 6 of the albums from your top ten. Thank you for your take on each of the albums shown, and after your wise words I’ll now be listening to them in a completely different way….👍👏
Great choices! Sail Away is a perfect record. Dayton Ohio 1903 is a personal fave.
such great variety, absolutely concur with your remarkable selectins
Its probably Tommy for me. At the top of their game and it has my favorite Who song Amazing Journey/Sparks. And the cover art was mysterious as a child.
I'm glad you gave us your subjective favorites. So much gold for me to mine! Treasure trove.
Thanks for your opinions on your favourites. I would also list Randy Newman's Sail Away and Kate Bush Hounds of Love two of my favourites, but not in the top ten.
For number one in my top ten would be Revolver by the Beatles. Others in my top ten would include
Sly and The Family Stone 'Stand', Bob Dylans'Blood On The Tracks', Janis Ian's Breaking Silence, Mahavishnu Orchestra 'Inner Mountain Flame', Gordon Lightfoot Sundown, Carole King Tapestry', Bob Marley and The Wailers Natty Dread',
Don McLean American Pie', The Rascals 'See' and Gal Costa 'Bem Bom. Runners up would be Joni Mitchell 'Blue'
Weather Report 'Mysterious Traveller, The Beatles Sgt. Pepper, and my Under The Radar album.
Although I didn't list any of my own albums in the top 10, my 'Run The Gauntlet' was considered #112 on a list(forgot the magazine) of all greatest albums.
Pretty good list. Mine would be very different but different strokes for different folks. Thanks for all the info.
Good idea on the "best" removal, musical taste is a subjective and personal thing, memories associated with music plays into it. When you have an open mind towards music it's freeing and allows you to experience it better. I had the Kate Bush album back then and played it often, others here are new to me but i will check them out.
No Airplane? I am surprised! Surrealistic Pillow is definitely in my top ten.
Exactly! That is a legendary, groundbreaking album.
I have loved Randy Newman's music the moment ever since I saw him perform on TV with a small orchestra. I met him once at The Berklee College of Music in Boston and that was a thrilling moment for sure.
There is something really heartwarming when someone shares a love of music that you have enjoyed for so long
Fantastic video. I haven’t heard many records on the list. Time to grab my headphones.
Love to see St Dominic’s, Village Green, Bookends, and 5D! And Revolver of course, which is my favorite album of all time on most days.
My top ten as of today would be
1.) Stevie Wonder- Songs in the Key of Life
2.) Bruce Springsteen- Born To Run
3.) Kendrick Lamar- To Pimp a Butterfly
4.) The Beatles- Abbey Road
5.) Metallica- Master of Puppets
6.) Soundgarden- Superunknown
7.) Madvillain- Madvillainy
8.) John Coltrane- A Love Supreme
9.) Genesis- Foxtrot
10.) Tool- Ænima
Highly Honorable Mentions to
Dream Theater- Scenes From A Memory
David Bowie- Ziggy Stardust
Rush- Permanent Waves
Iron Maiden- Powerslave
Yes- Close to the Edge
Simply put, beautiful art.
Hey Max, no Stones? I love Beggars Banquet, Let It Bleed and Sticky Fingers and Exile.
Make your own list and post it here in UA-cam!
You spelled unequivocally wrong.
No Byrds album was ever as good as their first two with Gene Clark. Give me a break.
To me, "Revolver" is the high water mark as far as the Beatles are concerned. Just an amazing record all the way through.
Absolutely ✌🏼
1) Bob Dylan - Blood on the Tracks
2) Simon and Garfunkel - Bridge Over Troubled Water
3) Joni Mitchell - Court and Spark
4) The Band - The Band
5) The Beatles - Rubber Soul
6) Carol King - Tapestry
7) James Taylor - Sweet Baby James
8) The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
9) Crosby Stills Nash and Young - Deja Vu
10) Fleetwood Mac - Rumours
11) The Eagles - Hotel California
Love - Forever Changes is a special choice…a favorite of mine.
Forever Changes is one that never leaves my top 10 too.
I’ve tried listening to the Love album a few times.
I just don’t get why it’s so popular
I bought the LP when it first came out so I’ve been listening to it for a long time. Some of the songs, A House Is Not A Motel and Bummer In The Summer, are accessible right away. The rest of the songs get better the more you listen to them. John Echols is an underrated guitar player who can play a variety of styles. Arthur Lee is a true original and the album has always been popular in the UK. I have the first three Love albums and love them all.@@gostrum1
Perfect list of 60s album. Love is an awesome effort. In 70s, Exodus (Bob Marley) . In 80s, Talking Heads. In 90s: Heaven Or las vegas and Mezzanine.

Joan Armatrading: Joan Armatrading
Country Joe & the Fish: Electric Music for the Mind & Body
Voices of East Harlem: Right On Be Free

Nice pull. David Live is the third greatest live album behind the Stones Get yer YaYas out and Cheap Trick live at Butakan. Frampton live is tops too.
Every note. Absolutely
He Used A Pick Axe ⛏
Some nice picks, my dude.
Try Verities and Balderdash by Harry Chapin. And Life’ll Kill Ya by Warren Zevon
gonna have to do my homework on this one! I love Revolver, Village Green, Hounds of Love, and Blonde on Blonde but need to check out the rest. I wasn't alive when most of this stuff released so I absolutely love hearing your perspective on these. My top albums are a mixed bag of old and new:
Ok Computer - Radiohead
Titanic Rising - Weyes Blood
You're My Lover Now - The Teeth
RAM - Paul McCartney
Rubber Soul - The Beatles
Fate - Dr. Dog
Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd
Feels - Animal Collective
The Soft Bulletin - The Flaming Lips
Veckatimest - Grizzly Bear
Here is my top of today, the number doesnt necessarily denote the order but helps me to keep track of the number of albums
1 A Trick of the Tail - Genesis
2 Selling England By The Pound - Genesis
3 Saint Dominic's Preview - Van Morrison
4 Whos Next - The Who
5 Forbidden Songs Of The Dying West - Jackie Leven
6 Wildfire - Elles Bailey
7 A New World Record - Electric Light Orchestra
8 Crime Of The Century - Supertramp
9 The Royal Scam - Steely Dan
10 - Layla abd Other Assorted Love Songs - Derek and the Dominos
My bonus is my favourite album thats new to me this year, Living Fossils by William Grey, an Argentinian progressive rock band.
I'm sure im going to realise that I've missed an essential album as soon as i send this. It doesn't feel right leaving out David Bowie, Roxy Music, The Beatles, Jim Hunter, Al Stewart and Jess Roden.
Al Stewart is another artist that tell stories👍
Whoops. I forgot all about Bruce Springsteen. I need to squeeze Born To Run in, probably at the expense of Layla
Great picks Mazzy; I'm listening to Fifth Dimension now - so good!
Here's my Top 10, for now:
Beatles - Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
Rolling Stones - Exile on Main Street
Jimi Hendrix- Electric Ladyland
Miles Davis - Bitches Brew
Derek & the Dominos - Layla & Other Assorted Love Songs
Van Morrison- Astral Weeks
Allman Brothers at Fillmore East
Byrds - Younger than Yesterday
Led Zeppeling IV
Elvis Costello - Imperial Bedroom
Hon mentions:

After #1, in no particular order:
1) Quadrophenia - The Who
2) Who's Next - The Who
3) Blood On The Tracks - Bob Dylan
4) Revolver - The Beatles
5) Exile In Guyville - Liz Phair
6) Copper Blue - Sugar
7) Stone Roses - Stone Roses
8) The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society - The Kinks
9) Odessey & Oracle - The Zombies
10) Oh, Inverted World - The Shins
Honorable Mention: U2 - The Joshua Tree, Rush - Moving Pictures, Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, Sleater-Kinney - Dig Me Out, REM - Automatic For The People, Joni Mitchell - Blue, English Beat - I Just Can't Stop It, Elvis Costello - King of America, The Beatles - Abbey Road
number 1, 2 ,3 and 4 is okay for me
The theme is endless. Do the top 10 records for winter, 10 for summer, 10 from each style, 10 from US based artists, 10 from UK etc etc
Great Van pick, love the title track, Listen to the Lion and Jackie Wilson. Sea Change is one I'm having trouble getting into. Nice list!
1. Exile on Main St. (Stones)
2. Sticky Fingers (Stones)
3. Wish You Were Here (PF)
4. Houses of the Holy (LZ)
5. Abbey Road (Beatles)
6. Blonde on Blonde (Dylan)
7. Aladdin Sane (Bowie)
8. Marquee Moon (Television)
9. OK Computer (Radiohead)
10. Discipline (King Crimson)
Very solid list - nice to see Discipline and Marquee Moon on there!
No Who. ??? Have you literally lost your mind.
Rock solid. I plead ignorance, though, concerning Bowie’s Aladdin Sane. Love and have all the others, but will hafta check out the Bowie album.
@@adrianmaddenYou missed Tommy!
Nice list. Four in common with my top 10, wow. The other six wouldn’t be in my top 100 though.
Thanks for the inspiration. I am heading out to record shopping now because of you.
Get ready... drum roll please:
Kate Bush-- Hounds of Love.
Cant wait to spend time taking in this album in and understanding what all the hype is about.
Good choice ✌🏼
Love the Kinks!!
👍👍👍
When you grew up is what made you choose it....
DJ Shadow - Endtroducing
Burial - Untrue
Jane's Addiction - Ritual De Lo Habitual
Nine Inch Nails - Downward Spiral
Radiohead - The Bends
John Coltrane - Love Supreme
The Prodigy - Experience
Flaming Lips - Soft Bulletin
Neil Young - Harvest
Pearl Jam - Vs.
Love your selection. Would like to add another bonus album - Truth by Jeff Beck with unknown then Rod Stewart on lead vocal
Thanks for posting this rather important video. It clearly got your viewers talking..
I think that's a good thing.
Please keep up the great work.
Regards,
David-
Personally, I think traffics John barleycorn is a top 10 album along with who’s next and a few under the radar ones are Blue Öyster Cult agents of Fortune as well as Aerosmith get your wings top notch music, all of it
Im in my 60s and man did you guys just stop when you were 25?. I turned 30 in 91 and alot of my favorites come from that time
Nice list NM.
Never mind this is a great list
I have enjoyed your music choices.
Sorry!
Thanks Mazzy,
I have no records w. several of the artists you mention - so I’ll have to check them out. Thanks for the inspiration 👍

Bookends melody sounds so good. Brilliant album.
Take care Mazzy and talk soon

Get better. Stay well 🥺🤠✌🏼
Which pressing is that 5d Byrd's record? It's got a beautiful glossy cover, very intrigued
Let me share my 5 favourite records ever
1. Tangled up in Blue -Bob Dylan
2. Rubber Soul - The Beatles
3. Abbey Road - The Beatles
4. Aja - Steely . Dan
5. Tapestry -- Carole King
6. Discovery - ELO
