I really like the idea of these box sets, but the fact that they went with the 16:9 discs is so odd to me; especially when it probably would've taken less effort to just repackage the already existing 4:3 discs lol. Oh well, it's good value for the people who don't care about the cropped image I guess. Thanks for the unboxing!
This set was also released in the US as a Crunchyroll Store Exclusive, so (as with recent Crunchyroll releases in the UK) it is that edition repackaged for the UK market. It makes sense they would use those same materials, as it is the same product, and I assume that's why the 4:3 discs weren't used. Of course not having those details specified on the back of the orange box is a bit of a concern, as you would automatically assume it is the same product that was released in the UK as before but repackaged. At least the UK now has the 16:9 version available 😅
The bluray steel books released 2 years ago i think, were far better because the image wasnt cropped or anything. Idk why this box set isn't using those blurays

Crunchyroll (US) released this set in America a few months ago as a Crunchyroll Store Exclusive. The previous Blu-ray sets were released by Manga Entertainment, which later became FUNimation before joining Crunchyroll.
I bought the anniversary set just a couple of years ago from Zavvi, but was considering this set if it was an upgrade in any way or had pavkaging that stood out. But having a flimsy cardboard box and cropping the image to widescreen is a definite downgrade.
i always loved the artwork for this set but i wish they just released a proper bluray set instead of them releasing the same garbage widescreen sharperened badly coloured crap
If it helps the Anniversary Edition, and the Individual Season sets (Steelbook and Standard), released in the UK are presented in the original 4:3 aspect ratio.
Man I saw this at Walmart but it was only the first three seasons I guess buying 3 seasons is more easier than lumping all 9 together But hopefully they’ll be easier available and not sell out

Other than that Walmart in the US does (or did have) have exclusive box sets of Season 1-3, Season 4-6 and 7-9. That aside this unboxing is for the UK version, but contents should be same as the edition in the US.
Contains the US Broadcast Audio (which from my understanding would be the Bruce Faulconer score) and would be the same as what has been used in previous Dragon Ball Z sets on Blu-Ray (in the UK and US).

A lot of time has passed / and now they do a complete blu ray box set / this should’ve have came with this box set 10 years ago / what toke so long / by now they should have made a blu ray and 4k complete steel book box set / this disappoints me deeply 😔

The series was then released as individual seasons as standard and steel book editions. All these releases were 4:3 aspect ratio. In the US Dragon Ball Z was first released on Blu-Ray in 2013 and has since been repackaged many times as a complete series. All of which used 16:9 (except the anniversary edition). This complete set was recently released in the US as a Crunchyroll Store Exclusive, but Crunchyroll (in the UK) are offering it everywhere as a general retail product. It is the first time this version has been release in the UK. In regards to your 4K idea, then who knows what the future could bring, but the series would need to be remastered (again) in 4K and it would be very costly (both for consumer and distributor).
Yet another boxset that you can ignore it seems? onlything i want is a set where you can choose which dub you want, plus the original japanese. in the correct aspect ratio without a filter.. untill they release something like that, i'm not getting any boxset. keep reprinting the same flawed editions in new packaging.. hard pass. I should have collected the dvd's from the early aughts, when they came out with a couple of episodes per dvd, atleast that ratio and the dub was correct.. only got a few of them >_>

@ In the UK the 30th Anniversary Edition Set and the Individual Season sets released by Manga Entertainment had 4:3 version of the series.
I bought all 9 seasons earlier this year i wish they could release the blu ray version of dbgt

The anniversary set is definitely better and i think it gets a bad wrap only cuz of that terrible trailer they released for it.
I have my complete blu ray dbz seasons with funamation , wich i prefer, since this is same print, but with funamation replaced with crunchy roll

As far as I know there is no wide-screen version of DBZ. There is a cropped version of the original 4:3. It looks stupid.
