I still have my first Dragon Ball toys I ever got. I was a problem kid at school in like 3rd grade, and so I was assigned to do most of my work in an environment where I wouldn't get into fights on the regular. The teacher assigned was this Persian (Iranian) lady, whose eldest daughter was working in London at the time, and as a gift she had bought me a set of different Dragon Ball Z action figures. Goku, Piccolo, Captain Ginyu, Frieza, and Trunks iirc. Still have them 'til today. And I still send flowers to my teacher every Christmas, going on twenty years.
Honestly, seeing someone that passion gives me a smile, i know that sigh of satisfaction at 4:14, thats the sigh u make when ur truly happy n excited lol

I'm actually a little torn. This new figure is amazing. For how posable it is, the joints aren't that visible. That being said, they are still VERY visible. As I don't change poses on my figures often as I display them, I wonder if a more dynamically pre-posed goku, but with less joints is better for me, or this one because it is an insanely impressive figure.
I think it comes down to preference. There are some really detailed statues that don't articulate you may want to look at by a company called Banpresto and then compare to the SH Figuarts figure.
As a kid, I always felt like the collectible figurines were the best quality toys. I'd buy McFarlane quality figurines and the clerk would look at me like: "You know, this isn't a toy, right?" Me: "It is now!"
My older brother actually had a copy of that Goku figure from way back when. When I saw the thumbnail I thought it was a very familiar figure, and when you mentioned that it had a snap-on shirt accessory I knew it was definitely that model. Brings so much memories.
My figure arrives in February, and my only complaint from what I've seen so far is the coloration on the chest piece, but fixing that doesn't look too hard.
I think once you have it in hand, you'll be very happy. And yes, if you are comfortable painting your figures, the chest piece can be repainted. Thanks for watching the video!
I remember these toys vividly. Despite their lack of extensive articulation, they were so damn fun to play with. I had base goku, super saiyan goku, base vegeta, super saiyan vegeta, future trunks, perfect cell, broly, super saiyan teen gohan, super saiyan adult gohan from movie 10. All great toys.
They were definitley awesome for the time! I have very fond memories of them from my childhood. Thanks for watching the video and leaving me this comment.

@@vascotoys I agree I currently have the S.H.Figuarts Bardock,Super Saiyan Blue Gogeta and Super Saiyan Full Power Broly and they are well worth the amount I spent for them
I’m not a fan of how separated the new one’s body looks due to all the deep lines on it. That’s what allows for the movements but it looks like his chest is body armor.
Yeah, not the best looking S.H. Figurart. The figures with his shirt look way better that this. They went way too overboard with articulation with this figure.
I had that first Goku you showed. I traded a bunch of stuff with a friend to get that Goku. Absolutely loved that figure played with it constantly. I kept it hidden under my bed because I didn’t want my parents to know I traded so much for it. One night the dog slept under my bed and destroyed that Goku figure. I was devastated. Just seeing that in your vid brought back so many memories.

Great video!!! The new Sh Figuarts Ssj Goku is perfect, it is astonishingly amazing, a true masterpiece ❤ I sure hope I can get him. And also nice story about your Irwin Toys Ssj Goku, I know what was like having a very special toy back then ❤
I love that era of dragon ball Z so much, including the art style of those early sagas. Goku was suuuuuper jacked and the figure looks just like how he did in the show. A diorama set up of him standing over cut-in-half frieza would be so dope.
Thanks for checking this out! I totally agree. Figuarts us coming out with the 100% Frieza later this year and I will be for sure making dioramas for he and Goku to battle in.
@@kaiju_boi9 I'm really glad you liked this review and want to see me review another figure. @@vascotoys I've only seen one episode of Dragon Ball but I really want you to review the S.H. Figuarts Goku Black. I like Godzilla and seeing Godzilla's new Evolved form just reminded me of Super Saiyan Rose, so can you please try to review Goku Black? Thanks for reading this!
I remember that figure. One of my favorites. I collected from '00-'03. Idk remember how many I had but the only ones I wasn't allowed to have was kid trunks. The models back then were damn cool also.
I used to have so many of those little Dragon Balls from when I was a kid. I've moved multiple times since the early 2000s, even to a different state, and still to this day, I find them in the most random places. They somehow always find a way to follow me through a move lol
The very first one I had was the Super Collection Trunks back then in the 90s. I still remember how I couldn't get the Goku (which is the SS Namek Arc ver.) and was kinda bummed about it. I think I also had the Vegeta too. The only thing that was movable was their arms and that was it. They're pretty much like a Sofubi. (vinyl toys)
Oh very cool, I never had that Trunks but always thought he looked cool. Yeah, the articulation was almost non existent back then. Thanks for watching and for sharing your toy memory with me.
the irwin line releases were always absolute kino or pure arse, i still have my giant ssj goku he's got a strong presence on my shelf still to this day
Funny thing is I used to have ssj Goku and ssj Trunks with sword when I was maybe 6yo in 1993 or something, but had no idea about DBZ at all. Years after it was shown in CN here in Europe and still some years after the show (lost action figures somewhere unfortunately) I realized where those figures were from lol
Honestly, this action figure really is the best version of super sayian Goku and the Namek saga is a really good saga from the iconic transformation to the way Vegeta chops of guldo’s head
This is probably the quintessential version of Goku and the version I most think of for DBZ. Although all versions of Goku are awesome! I would also say this Goku is one of the best action figures I've ever held in hand. I was amazed when he arrived at how great he is. Great job, S.H.Figuarts!!!
The one I got its head is loose smh everytime i try to move the head it pops out of the ball joint, can you help me fix this permanently? Because the nail polish is wearing off when I switch the head. Is there a permanent solution? Like a paint or something?
Ahhh man, I'm sorry. I don't have any knowledge about figure fixes. I would check out Bill Maruh Toycanics or Kitbash Customs. They might have videos to help.
isnt it weird how in their own commercial from the 1:25 mark of this video, they morph from a screenshot of the show to a picture of the action figure and you can see the proportions in the face are completely different. you would think somebody would say "oh no we screwed up, we can't release it like this." but they didn't. it's almost like they didn't even use pictures from the show as references.
That's insane, reminds me of how i still have my 4Kids era Monkey D. Luffy figure from when i was a kid, but recently got the post timeskip Luffy figure by the "Anime Heroes" figure line. funny enough thanks to Anime Heroes i was finally able to get a Kurosaki Ichigo action figure, since as a kid they only had Goku, Naruto, and Luffy because Bleach was on Adult Swim so it didn't have toys. so now i finally have The Big 3 and their predecesor, Goku! lol.
Totally remember those old DBZ figures. I had a few of them. This same Goku and Golden Haired Gogeta were two of my favorite. I remember the Beckett Dragon Ball Z Collectors magazine had a check list of all of them and it was my dream to collect them all some day. Sadly i only had about 6 or 7. SS Goku Golden Hair Gogeta Black Hair Vegito Fat Buu Saiyan Saga Vegeta Cell Saga SS Trunks I feel like I also had SS3 Goku but that couldve just been the next one I wanted on the list
The way you feel about this Goku is how I feel about the SHF second form Frieza since I used to have the Irwin figure when I was a kid. That’s always been my favorite form for Frieza he looks so cool.
Quality action figure 100%. Dragon Ball Z always has the best figurines from what I remembered as a kid. But naw these action figures are incredible nowadays. This video made me consider collecting now that I'm older.
Rare to see toys/games in such good condition. Most children I know absolutely destroy their game consoles and toys when they're kids by taking horrible care of them me included.
Thank you! Yeah, you can't go wrong with the cell saga either. The growth of Gohan during that time was incredible to watch and Future Trunks is such an iconic character.
@@vascotoys I actually have the base goku, base trunks, ssj gohan (picollo outfit) and broly legendary ssj hehe. when i was young i was already amazed with just movable shoulders :D
FINALLY someone that f KNOWS what hes talking about, someone that recognizes what part of the anime the action figure belongs to. The Yelling face is when frieza says that hes going to kill goku like he did to his friend, refering to krillin, at that time goku yells and powers up, and that face is that exact moment
Yes! What an important moment that they captured with that face plate. I'm really glad you liked the video and I appreciate you leaving me this comment.
I have SS Goku, Piccolo, Frieza, and Kid Trunks from the Irwin line. Those were always my favorite line of DBZ toys just out of nostalgia. I could never find SS3, but wanted it so bad. lol
Aside from the few quality toy companies, I feel the toy figure industry died a long time ago. It's nowhere near as prevalent in terms of quality and direction as it once was. Most Target and Walmart toys are pretty much glorified happy meal toys😢
It is sad to see the toys made for children are so lackluster at this point. I think you are spot on. The companies making collectibles are doing amazing things, but toys intended for children leave a lot to be desired these days.
lol assembling the effect.. i did the same thing i wanted to port in the wrong side ... i love this figure so much.. new tooling and plastic.... aesthetically great too....figure of the year
I would agree! Figure of the year for me as well. 🤣🤣🤣 I'm glad I wasn't the only one fumbling around with the effect piece. I'm just glad to finally have one. I probably have 20 SHF Dragon Ball Z figures and none of them came with this piece.
@@hexisabeast very cool! I didn't get those ones. I'm glad some of the newer figures are getting these. Seemed like we went a while where figures didn't have them.
Yes! But I purchased it in 1999 in a KB Toys. I mentioned these were re-releases of figures previously released by Bandai. Appreciate you watching and leaving a comment.
I still have that bandai super battle collection super saiyan goku which I purchased from hong kong in 1992. The best figures from that line was Future Trunks, Super Saiyan Gohan and Majin Boo. Though comparing bandai's super battle collection line which started in the late 80s and ended around 1997 with Super Saiyan 3 Kid goku from GT with Bandai's SH figuarts feels kinda unfair as SH figuarts are rather expensive collectibles than toys for kids. I personally collect bandai Dragonstars which are overall nice figures especially the more recent releases with improved face sculpting and they are affordable.
I understand your point. My main reason for making the video was to show the progression of the action figure industry and share my excitement about the new figure and the figure I had as a kid. I appreciate you checking it out.
@vascotoys thank you for your reply. Indeed the level of details and articulions has increased s lot over the years. I think the expectations back then was less high. Same for the star wars figures back then from the late 70s and early 80s compared to the black series from the past years. I remember that i was not satisfied that bandai didn't release any of the cyborgs in the super battle collection line but only main villains and Broly which was a huge figure.
I have this figure. It really is awesome especially growing up with the original. I wish that the extra hair was the OG manga Super Saiyan Hair from the first exclusive release of this figure.
Awesome! It really is a great figure. Interesting thought on the hair. I hadn't really thought of that as an option for this, but could be cool. I do really like the hair sculpts we got though.
This figure looks great. The articulation, the accuracy to the source material, this is something I could see myself buying if I had the income for it. One question though, it looks like the belt is a fixed piece, how does it interact with the left thigh? It looks like you can't afford to move it forward at risk of snapping the belt
The original Bandai versions were called "The Super Battle Collection" if you still want to find them. The gold haired versions were what we all wanted as kids and I actually have the entire Super Battle Collection. While I was in the Army I bought every figure in the original box. Every one I wished I had when I was younger. OP will probably not see this comment but if you have a twitter account I could send you a picture of the whole collection. I'll always prefer the OGs.
@Kelnurok good info and I did see the comment for sure. I actually just came out with the second video in this series where I bought a sealed Super Battle Collection Vegeta and compared it to it's SH Figuarts counterpart. Just posted it yesterday if you want to check it out.
Yessssss! I am so excited we are getting that figure. Having that Frieza with this Goku is going to be the centerpiece of my collection. I'm going to have to make a Diorama to recreate that battle between them.

He has his own spaceship, goons/ soldiers, two bodyguards, a private army, and most importantly..............HIS OWN HOVER POD!😲 While everyone else is using their power to fly, Frieza just gets in pod and takeoff😂 Oh and he held the title as strongest in the universe. What a cold name that fits his chacracter too😨 FRIEZA=PLATINUM BOSS STATUS! 😎
I couldn't love this comment more if I tried! Totally agree with you. Thanks for watching!
You vs the guy she tells you not to worry about
🤣🤣🤣 this literally made me laugh out loud.

Wow you replied quick 😂
I remember the super Saiyan Vegeta had the snap on chest armor. I had a bunch of them. Raditz, SSJ Vegeta, future Trunks and chibi Trunks, base Goku, 100% power Freeza, Piccolo (which had removable turban and cape). Now I have over 100 S.H. Figuarts DBZ figures. Crazy.
Yes! DBZ stuff is so much fun to collect. Thanks for taking the time to comment on the video.
I've been waiting on this figure for so long. I missed Awakening SSJ Gokou so this was a must have for me.
Great video man. You're a passionate and long-time fan of Dragon Ball and this was a great review. Cheers!
Thanks Carson! I appreciate you saying that. I have Awakening Goku and love that figure, but this one is WAY better. You will love it.
@@vascotoysMuch love, my friend.
dude! this video is phenomenal, from the thumbnail. to premise and great editing and script. bravo!
Thank you Rocco! Thanks for always encouraging me. As you know, I really try to get better every time I make a video and I am so glad to see people have decided to watch this one.
I know you
Rocco wow I'm subbed to you😂
Thank you for making this.
I've been pretty on the edge on getting this figure and this video has solidified my wand for it now.
Hey that is awesome man! Glad you enjoyed the video.
That's an incredible story. What an awesome gift to receive as a kid. Thanks for sharing this and for watching the video.
Those OG action figures were the best. There was just such a collectible aspect to them
They were great! I agree. That was back in the day when collecting a whole wave of figures didn't cost a fortune.
I agree. I wish my mom hadn’t thrown away all my old toys. Dumb B word throws everything away.
Honestly, seeing someone that passion gives me a smile, i know that sigh of satisfaction at 4:14, thats the sigh u make when ur truly happy n excited lol
Thank you for saying that! That figure is something I have been waiting to get really since I was a kid. I was truly excited and I am glad that came through in the video.
@@vascotoys i can totally see it, and i had the same toy u had back then i had goku, vegeta n freiza. It was so cool, but i lost freiza's tail cuzi it was too fun to spin his tail as a kid lol
Best review of this guy. I also bit the bullet and ordered two for the same reason.
He is still in my pile of loot at bbts and i can't wait to get him.
Your personal history with DBZ toys made this review. Subbed.
It is so cool to hear that and I sincerely appreciate it. I very rarely do figure reviews, but I was just so excited for this that I had to film a review.
I thankfully still have my ENTIRE collection of Bandai and Irwin DBZ figures ❤❤❤❤❤
That's awesome!!! Wish I had kept everything I had.
@@vascotoys that's like the only thing I kept from my childhood for some reason... Lost all my old Pokemon cards, all my old power ranger figures and all my old Star Wars figures from the 90s.. have absolutely no idea what happened to any of those so I damn sure made sure to hold on to all of my old DBZ figures!💯
@@rcdune7132 well good for you for at least having those. I have some of my other stuff, but I stupidly told my parents to sell stuff at garage sales, so that is on me.
@@vascotoys oof... Yeah that's Definitely painful my friend.. My reasoning was because I'm an adult now and I don't need childish things 🤦🏻🤦🏻... Like bro... Every time I think about that moment I just want to punch myself in the head for being so stupid...
@@rcdune7132 ohhhhhh that's the same reason I told my parents to sell some of my stuff. Luckily I was smart enough to keep at least a handful of things.
This is super cool man! I'm super glad you shared this one with us! I really really want one of these now haha
Hey thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and want the figure. As you can probably tell, it is one of my favorites.
As a kid, I always felt like the collectible figurines were the best quality toys. I'd buy McFarlane quality figurines and the clerk would look at me like: "You know, this isn't a toy, right?"
Me: "It is now!"
My older brother actually had a copy of that Goku figure from way back when. When I saw the thumbnail I thought it was a very familiar figure, and when you mentioned that it had a snap-on shirt accessory I knew it was definitely that model. Brings so much memories.
Man that's so cool! Thanks for giving the video a watch and for sharing that memory with me.

I remember my little brother showing me pictures of this guy a few months ago and I remember thinking to myself, this is the toy I wish I had as a kid! I love this figure so much and it's what Jumpstarted my SH figuarts collection! I love this toy!!
Yes! If we had this figure as kids it would have blown our minds. 🤯
💯 yes!! That’s the best version of Goku with his big boulders for shoulders I can hear him saying,
“It’s done…you’re not even a challenge to me anymore.”
seeing them side by side is sooo insane. towards the end of last year i've been finally taking notice of the sh figuarts lines of figures...and i think i'm finally fully converted. that new goku looks amazing

I’m not a fan of how separated the new one’s body looks due to all the deep lines on it. That’s what allows for the movements but it looks like his chest is body armor.
Yeah, it looks like shit tbh
@@CRL365 100% agree. I honestly feel like the old design + a better face would just be better lol.
Yeah, not the best looking S.H. Figurart. The figures with his shirt look way better that this. They went way too overboard with articulation with this figure.
@@dhgmrz17 Dude looks like a Lego robot... It's REALLY bad.
And how is no one mentioning the chest colour not matching with any of the other skin?
I had that first Goku you showed. I traded a bunch of stuff with a friend to get that Goku. Absolutely loved that figure played with it constantly. I kept it hidden under my bed because I didn’t want my parents to know I traded so much for it. One night the dog slept under my bed and destroyed that Goku figure. I was devastated. Just seeing that in your vid brought back so many memories.
Ahhhh man, I'm sorry it got ruined by the dog! I'm glad the video helped bring back your fun childhood memories of the figure, though. Thanks for watching my video.
This video was so much fun. Well done
Thank you 🙏 I'm really glad you enjoyed it. It was a lot of fun to make.

Great video!!! The new Sh Figuarts Ssj Goku is perfect, it is astonishingly amazing, a true masterpiece ❤ I sure hope I can get him. And also nice story about your Irwin Toys Ssj Goku, I know what was like having a very special toy back then ❤
Thanks so much! Glad you liked the video and appreciate the support.
I still have my original nappa :)
Battle damage SSJ1 is THE Goku I always picture in my head.
Those early figures that Irwin sold in 1999 were from Super Battle Collection which Bandai started in 1991 in Japan of course🤓
I just got mine this week, and it's definitely #1 in my collection

Thank you! Glad I was able to hold onto it!
I had that original Goku too. I remember always wishing the arms bent.
Same here! Thanks for watching the video.
Your reaction when having the Goku in your hands was like my reaction when I first held the S.H. Figuarts Raid On Onigashima Luffy in my hands

I remember that figure. One of my favorites. I collected from '00-'03. Idk remember how many I had but the only ones I wasn't allowed to have was kid trunks. The models back then were damn cool also.
Yes. These figures were awesome to grow up playing with!
“Ultra powered up version” had me
I appreciate you watching!
I used to have so many of those little Dragon Balls from when I was a kid. I've moved multiple times since the early 2000s, even to a different state, and still to this day, I find them in the most random places. They somehow always find a way to follow me through a move lol
That's amazing! I remember having like a drawer full of them as a kid. They were everywhere!

Those super battle collection figures are my childhood, the first one I got was that kid gohan, and I had so much fun with them.
I loved that Gohan figure as a kid! Thanks for checking out the video.
That's so interesting! I bet when you finally saw the show it was a mind-blowing type of experience. Awesome!
wow this figure is actually beautiful, gonna get this myself!
Yes! It's really an incredible piece for any collector that enjoys the dragon ball franchise. Glad you are picking one up!
Awesome and yes, they absolutely nailed this. I think this is the best figure they have ever made (although I don't have all of them).

I love how both chest pieces are still discolored😂
A few people have said that. I really don't see it on the new figure.
Wow. This figure is amazing. I have the original gen 1 version and LSSJ Z Broly. I might have to get this guy somehow. Subscribed.
Appreciate the sub and the comment! If you like DBZ, you should try and get this new Goku for sure.
@@vascotoys alright I’ll wait for the update
isnt it weird how in their own commercial from the 1:25 mark of this video, they morph from a screenshot of the show to a picture of the action figure and you can see the proportions in the face are completely different. you would think somebody would say "oh no we screwed up, we can't release it like this." but they didn't. it's almost like they didn't even use pictures from the show as references.
Yes, it seems like a losing proposition the way they decided to show it in the commercial. But I guess at the time, they thought it looked good?
That's insane, reminds me of how i still have my 4Kids era Monkey D. Luffy figure from when i was a kid, but recently got the post timeskip Luffy figure by the "Anime Heroes" figure line.
funny enough thanks to Anime Heroes i was finally able to get a Kurosaki Ichigo action figure, since as a kid they only had Goku, Naruto, and Luffy because Bleach was on Adult Swim so it didn't have toys.
so now i finally have The Big 3 and their predecesor, Goku! lol.

Yes, exactly!
I was thinking about getting this figure and after watching this review, I really really want that figure now thank you😁
I'm so glad to hear the video helped you decide. Enjoy it!
SS Goku
Golden Hair Gogeta
Black Hair Vegito
Fat Buu
Saiyan Saga Vegeta
Cell Saga SS Trunks
I feel like I also had SS3 Goku but that couldve just been the next one I wanted on the list
Oh awesome! I definitley didn't have the Gogeta or the Buu. Thanks for sharing this with me!
The way you feel about this Goku is how I feel about the SHF second form Frieza since I used to have the Irwin figure when I was a kid. That’s always been my favorite form for Frieza he looks so cool.
Second form Frieza is SO COOL! I totally get it. Thanks for watching.
Quality action figure 100%. Dragon Ball Z always has the best figurines from what I remembered as a kid. But naw these action figures are incredible nowadays. This video made me consider collecting now that I'm older.
Thanks for the comment and for watching the video! That's cool that the video made you want to collect again.
Damn i had that SSJ Goku figure. There was one with metallic golden hair too that was sick
Very cool! Yes, that was the Bandai version, I believe.

Rare to see toys/games in such good condition. Most children I know absolutely destroy their game consoles and toys when they're kids by taking horrible care of them me included.
Thanks! I do wish I hadn't lost the pop off shirt piece, but otherwise am happy with the condition of something so old.
You're opinion is perfect. Namek saga is a perfect saga. But for me cell saga is my favourite db saga. Because ssj2 Gohan and a lot of trunks moments.
Thank you! Yeah, you can't go wrong with the cell saga either. The growth of Gohan during that time was incredible to watch and Future Trunks is such an iconic character.
I loved that OGGoku figure too, but my fav was the Vol 21 Gogeta i got for my 10th bday in 2000

I totally identify with this. I always wanted battle damaged DBZ figures.
Oh my god you could grind meat on that....

That original goku figure is from 1991. It's from the Super Battle Collection made in japan, and later China.
Single bang hair looks awesome. It gives me Super Saiyan 2 vibes.
Yes I agree! Thanks for checking this out.
I gotta say that guy is nice, I got both Jiren's they REAL NICE MY FAV CHARACTER BUT THE BEST ONE IS METAL COOLER I'm ngl they cooked with him brah
I heard those ones were great, but I don't have them. Glad you are enjoying them
@vasco toys you can order 3d printed custom parts, such as goku tanktop for the completion of your toy
This figure looks great. The articulation, the accuracy to the source material, this is something I could see myself buying if I had the income for it. One question though, it looks like the belt is a fixed piece, how does it interact with the left thigh? It looks like you can't afford to move it forward at risk of snapping the belt
I'm glad you like the figure! So the belt is a soft plastic that you can move around easily. I dont think there is a high chance of it snapping.
Just posed mine up on the shelf he was worth the wait for sure now for the buff Frieza.
Yessssss! I am so excited we are getting that figure. Having that Frieza with this Goku is going to be the centerpiece of my collection. I'm going to have to make a Diorama to recreate that battle between them.
