After rewatching Super Broly with some friends, my non-dragonball fan friend asked "if Broly was so powerful to the point of contending with Super Saiyan Blue with little effort, how could anything stand up to him if he ever gained control of himself", which made me think about how they portray not only Broly, but the power of Saiyan's burdened by overwhelming potential. We have three major players that fit this bill, being Gohan, Kale and Broly. Gohan was burdened with overwhelming power since the beginning of Z, and since the introduction of Beast continues to show that his potential is never fully capped out. However, the one major consistency of Gohan is that after his initial power up caused by anger, he loses a lot of his strength and is unable to fully reach the level of power he had when first reaching that peak. Funnily enough, Kale works the exact same way. Being a mini Z Broly, Kale is burdened by her potential, with her ki being so vast and powerful that it even threatens to damage her unless she constantly releases it. Every time she fights in her Berserk state, she outputs a level of power that dwarfs comparable saiyans and contends with much higher powered states. However, after her connection to Caulifla is reiterated, she gains control of her power, achieving her SSJ2 form, which is still strong, but feels noticeably weaker in terms of pure strength. This leads me to believe that Kale sacrifices her limitless potential to maintain active control of herself. Finally, this brings us to Broly. One of the major questions a lot of people had after the movie (And subsequently during Super Hero) was how powerful Broly would become if he was able to control himself. After thinking about it, I think Broly will actually be WEAKER once he gains control of himself. Now, I don't think he'd be considerably weaker, but he likely would struggle against any of current levels of power shown (Be it Beast, Ultra Instinct or Ultra Ego). At most, he might just be able to keep up with them as he slowly grows more skillful. One of Broly's major advantages is that he is extremely adaptive, and with control, can likely make much better use of that adaptability despite the power loss. That said, it's possible he would also work similarly to Gohan, and gain new peaks of power whenever a threshold is reached and his control is lost again. Do I believe Toriyama intended for Saiyan potential to work this way? No, not really. That said, it's amazing to think about the fact that despite Goku and Vegeta being master class warriors, they are probably the most handicapped when it comes to pure potential. They have to focus a lot more on their own growth rather than huge bursts of strength bumping up their abilities when needed. I think it's why we love cherry picked moments from the ones graced by limitless potential such as Gohan, but we keep returning to see Goku and Vegeta surpass their limits through their own effort and hard work. It's also really fun to see similarities in characters like Gohan and Broly, despite them being very different.
@@TrxPsyche you know the scene my powers growing over flowing or something like that then he expels ki from his body and same for supers broly in that legendary or berserk form he literally gets stronger by the second he has no limits unless he trained his body to hold more ki that's what makes him different he doesn't need zenkai boosts
In the recent manga broly gets control of his super Saiyan form thanks to beast Gohan and works to make him stronger with better control and adaptability
Kid Trunks knowing the Kamehameha Wave isn't really that farfetched. He did grow up with Goten and had a peaceful relationship with Gohan who he probably also saw as a big brother too

@@ItsMicobs Yeah, like for me, it's kind of impossible to imagine not watching the dub. The audio quality is way better and the music just makes the scenes hit way harder too.
Facts. The degree to which the music elevated these films cannot be overstated. The opening to Cooler's Revenge wouldn't be nearly as iconic and bada** without Drowning Pool's "Reminded."
Hey, just my take on this: I’m European so maybe we just don’t have the same outlook culturally… but I cannot register how anyone would want to watch the English dub 🤔 The original voices and soundtrack are in a league of their own, nothing compares imo. It’s like stripping it of its soul, sometimes the music and voice acting completely takes away the feeling that was supposed to be conveyed. The result’s that instead of watching a shonen it feels like an American superhero movie, and not in a good way… Moments of despair such as Z Broly destroying the home planet of the slaves should not be accompanied by badass electric guitars as one of the slaves gets teary-eyed, it’s just so out of touch with the story and sounds like one of those edits… I just feel like certain things should be left the way they are, and appreciated as is instead of forcing it into a cultural mold that just doesn’t fit. But again, this might just be cultural differences, just very puzzling to me… would like to know your pov.
@@warenn4753 How people watch It is very easy the audio quality is way better the voices fit way better and the music elevates many aspects of the movie way higher than the original soundtrack which is very old-timey and just not very exciting. Like bro, not all of the script changes in the english dub are great, but overall the experience just feels way better. I also have no idea why you think this genre of anime and manga does not often fall into being very inspiring or heroic it absolutely does. The music helps convey how demonic broly is it absolutely is a contributing factor as to why broly is one of the most popular characters in the entire franchise. Almost no one is going to cry at that scene but what they can feel is how scary and cool broly is. I also have absolutely no idea how you can make the claim that it's being forced into a cultural mold that it doesn't fit when it clearly. Does the vast vast majority of people prefer the english dub for the movies saying that it doesn't fit is blatantly just wrong. These movies introduced me to a genre of music I might not have heard otherwise and I will always love them for that these songs are absolutely amazing.
@@msbkaioken136 I see your pov but it just doesn’t work for me. I’ve watched this movie in Japanese, French and have tried to watch it in English but I couldn’t finish, this scene was the nail in the coffin for me. Maybe it has to do with the emotional connection with the original soundtrack, but for me the Japanese one just embodies Dragon Ball so perfectly, feels truer to the characters and to the author’s culture, plus I never had those quality issues that you mentioned… Again, it might be a preference thing based on cultural factors, but it makes all the difference in my opinion. The voice acting is not bad per say, but the atmosphere is altered by that and most importantly the soundtrack, it’s like a cultural dissonance. Like I said, suddenly it doesn’t feel like watching Dragon Ball but a random superhero movie, it’s just that non-specific. Paradoxically, I absolutely love American music and I’m an English teacher myself, it’s just one of those instances in which it lacks authenticity for me. To put it bluntly, it feels to me like an attempt to cater to the American market more than an actual artistic choice, and it’s so obvious that I can’t watch the movie without thinking about it the whole way through. But I guess when you’ve been introduced to that version first, it completely shift your perception of the original work. I’m glad I now know your opinion though, as we can still all enjoy it the way we prefer in the end 🤷🏻♂️ Hope you don’t take it personally, we Europeans just love the art of debating, doesn’t mean it’s an attack at all. Have a great day!
That beating Gogeta Blue put on Broly was absolutely legendary. They also need to do a major character development when it comes to Bojack and demon Janimba, they're super underrated villians.
You forgot like 5 movies: the original 3 movies of DB, Path to Power AND Evolution In defense of Garlic Jr, he did not know that Piccolo and Kami's lives are linked to Shenron. It is dumb but reasonable. As for the death zone, Garlic Jr had no other option to win. There was nobody who could reasonably stop him. At least he didn't know. The sucking also doesn't seem to affect him. So the only way you can beat him is to hit him with enough force to be thrown inside the death zone. The unfortunate thing about the World Strongest is, it is the most forgetable movie mainly because it doesn't have an amazing transformation or a stay with you moment. It may be the first movie, or the first time, an enemy got killed by the spirit bomb, but it only is remembered if you watch the movies in order. I feel it is a shame because I really enjoyed a lot of moments in the movie like the teacher-studends Kamehameha and Goku vs the bio men. Turles might be a failure as an Evil Goku but I feel as a villain he is very effective. His defeat was also amazing. It might be my favorite Spirit Bomb defeat. Those things and more are the reason why it is easily one of the top 5 DB movies in my mind. Lord Slug movie aged better than I thought. I used to think it is one of the worst movies but a lot changed for me. He seemed like he cared a lot about his empire and wanted to create an environment for his people to flurish to the point he killed anyone objecting. The regaining his youth part really didn't matter storytelling wise and seemed more like a nice reference. I feel the Spirit Bomb in terms of 'strength' was not needed to defeat him but as a symbolism to beat Slug was a good way to go. The warm of the sun the earth needs against the cold world Slug desired for his people. Besides that, I feel the fight against Slug's large state was one of the best fights against a giant character in the franchise as characters really used their sizes to their advantage. The only other instance I think it was done well was Goku vs Oozaru Baby. As a child I used to think Cooler was defeated by the Kamehameha. When I watched the movie later as a teenager or young adult, I saw how Goku performed the attack and it didn't look like the Kamehameha, nor did I hear him say it. Recently I watched the Japanese Dub of Movie 6 where in the flashback Goku actually yelled Kamehameha before firing the attack. Thinking about it, there were several times the Kamehameha was performed in a way it didn't look like the kamehameha at all. Like when Goku used these 'ki blasts' when he was under water against Frieza to distract him, he said in his mind Kamehameha. Really weird. I like both Cooler movies and I think they still hold up today. Still frames of Movie 6 look awful but if you look at them animated, they look slick. Well, executed. Super 13 movie might be the most bland. All the movie cliches can be found. I feel it would have been better if Toei made a filler arc out of the movie before the real androids arrive focusing on the B-Team trying to take them down. They could have been nice ways to build up the real androids. How could that work? Bulma ignored the words of Goku and Vegeta wishing from Shenron the wherabouts of Gero ending up being greeted by weaker androids that are enough to put a fight against Yamcha and Tien. Android 14 could be strong enough to have Goku intercept and beat him in an even fight. But their mission fail to kill Gero as he escaped somehow with the weaker androids keeping the Z fighters not only busy but also having Bulma waste a wish on the Dragon Balls. Anyways, the movie spirit bomb looked the best probably in the franchise. Broly's first movie is the best movie in my mind. Broly's character and the symbolism what the legendary Super Saiyan could be is what intruiged me. It felt like Goku and Broly were both the legendary Super Saiyan. Broly having the destructive nature and power and Goku the spirit and potential. That is why I don't feel how unity defeated Broly was badly done. I made a review about the first movie if anyone is interested. The second one wasn't particually good, but I think it caught up during the second half. The defeat of Broly was pretty fantastic. Movie 11 might be the worst of the original run. Defeated by salt water might be unique but very underwhelming. I still enjoy it more than BoG, RoF and Super Heroes. I haven't seen DBS Broly so I can't say anything about how Soybroly ended. I enjoyed the tournament part of the movie. The environments were pretty good. The finish was cool. Bojack as an antagonist needs some work to be done. Janemba's defeat is one of my favorite moments. One of the best movies. I don't feel I need to tell you why I love the movie. There is a power scaling video arguing that Hildegard is the weakest movie villain and I think it makes sense. I still like the movie in terms of Tapion's character, Trunks actually getting fleshed out and the finishing move of Dragon Fist, the best technique in the franchise. Bills' movie was so bad. Goku is out of character, Vegeta is shitting his pants, the entire concept of SSJG and Goku gave up at the end of movie and risking the earth to be destroyed. Golden Frieza movie had the worst ending. Whis just reversed time to make Goku finish Frieza undoing any consequence. There was no way of Goku and Vegeta would lose. Gohan Beast is one of the dumbest transformations. Like we didn't have enough of those since BoG. Thanks for reading. The best villain was Broly Z.
I always viewed all the movies as basically a brief story of every saga, with Tree of Might and Lord Slug being out of order. Dead Zone/Emperor Pilaf from Dragon Ball, Earth Mightiest/Red Ribbon Army, Lord Slug/King Piccolo, Tree of Might/Saiyan Saga, and so on. Broly kind of deviates from that, seeming more of its own original story, and then being popular enough to get its own sequels. And then kind of reversing it by the time Super happens.
This is why is dbz raging blast 2 is one of the greatest dbz games out since it includes most of these non canon villains or at least some aspects of the movies
I’m not a cell max hater. I’m a hater of mediocrity. The attack looks nice, but Toei animation completely fumbled an opportunity to make a good villain. I’m not a hater. I enjoy good product. You make good product, I clap for you. You make shit product I say BOO.

My favourites were Lord Slug and Cooler's revenge (faulconer version), Movie 13 (in Japanese), and Super Hero - was just very satisfying to see Gohan make a comeback
Actually, many I came across said the reason why Gogeta didn't chase Brolly after he was teleported by Shenron was that he survived his Stardust Breaker, an attack meant for destroying evil that desintegrated Janemba. Gogeta then knew he wasn't evil by nature, just unable to fully control his rage, and with Brolly teleported out of Earth he no longer posed a threat.
Bro, a rated R murder mystery movie starring Gohan and future Trunks would be fire. Just smart dialog, plot, and stylized Kingsman-esque choreography and action. There's an opportunity to see how smart Gohan is, future Trunks regaining his lost masculinity, and something like a scene similar to when Trunks finds Gohans dead body in History of Trunks, except it's them swagged out in suits at a crime scene in the rain with that classic city lights illumination. Thanks for reading. I know it'll never happen unless someone generates it with an AI video program in a few years and releases it on some site
This is the first I read a comment like this. This would be an awesome OVA special if they ever decided to do that. You could explore so much character depth like you said. I think it would be better with Gohan with trunks and goten.

My theory of Broly becoming stronger with every past minute. I think the sayan ability, becoming stronger when close to death is Broly's secret. Because he's "The Legendary Super Sayan" his ability works already when be takes damage. He doesn't need to get seriously hurt.

In the recent manga broly gets control of his super Saiyan form thanks to beast Gohan and works to make him stronger with better control and adaptability

So you're saying that, during the first Broly movie, Goku ALMOST got God by accident. If only there were a few more Saiyans.
Perfect timing with the sparking zero reveal
7:36 the more I think about it, you could headcanon this ki blast was the blueprint for Gogeta's Stardust Breaker attack. And tbh that sounds sick as hell
I always assumed it was probably a mix of spirit bomb and maybe atomic flash
I have a theory that goku had enough strength for a single attack to wound broly, and so that wound would lead to broly's ki to leak and essentially blowing himself up and not entirely goku defeating him, that's just how strong was broly in the movie
That’s a good theory worth making a video on tbh.
That's exactly what happened.
@@moodzi1322i also thought of this theory too because goku punched where Broly was stabbed when he was a baby.

The final part of broly movie was incredible. That music, atmosphere, voice acting all were perfect. Also the beating gogeta gave to jenemba was epic
The soundtracks to these movies are next level and way before it’s time. Truly made the movies better
Hey, just my take on this: I’m European so maybe we just don’t have the same outlook culturally… but I cannot register how anyone would want to watch the English dub 🤔
The original voices and soundtrack are in a league of their own, nothing compares imo.
It’s like stripping it of its soul, sometimes the music and voice acting completely takes away the feeling that was supposed to be conveyed.
The result’s that instead of watching a shonen it feels like an American superhero movie, and not in a good way…
Moments of despair such as Z Broly destroying the home planet of the slaves should not be accompanied by badass electric guitars as one of the slaves gets teary-eyed, it’s just so out of touch with the story and sounds like one of those edits…
I just feel like certain things should be left the way they are, and appreciated as is instead of forcing it into a cultural mold that just doesn’t fit.
Maybe it has to do with the emotional connection with the original soundtrack, but for me the Japanese one just embodies Dragon Ball so perfectly, feels truer to the characters and to the author’s culture, plus I never had those quality issues that you mentioned…
Again, it might be a preference thing based on cultural factors, but it makes all the difference in my opinion.
I’m glad I now know your opinion though, as we can still all enjoy it the way we prefer in the end 🤷🏻♂️
Hope you don’t take it personally, we Europeans just love the art of debating, doesn’t mean it’s an attack at all.
Have a great day!
It's kinda crazy when you think about Turles' death, Imagine being blasted and crushed to death at the same time!! 😬
You’re right. I guess I always thought coolers death was the most horrifying along broly’s death’s. But turles had a messed up death too
@@moodzi1322 I'm surprised that gohan was able to learn special beam cannon which was piccolo move
That beating Gogeta Blue put on Broly was absolutely legendary.
They also need to do a major character development when it comes to Bojack and demon Janimba, they're super underrated villians.
You forgot like 5 movies: the original 3 movies of DB, Path to Power AND Evolution
In defense of Garlic Jr, he did not know that Piccolo and Kami's lives are linked to Shenron.
Thank you so much for the passionate response. Also I hope you were joking about DB evolution. Ain’t no I’m touching that movie!

The backshots are crazzzzyyyy
Goku: Spirit bomb or sun?
I always viewed all the movies as basically a brief story of every saga, with Tree of Might and Lord Slug being out of order.
Dead Zone/Emperor Pilaf from Dragon Ball, Earth Mightiest/Red Ribbon Army, Lord Slug/King Piccolo, Tree of Might/Saiyan Saga, and so on. Broly kind of deviates from that, seeming more of its own original story, and then being popular enough to get its own sequels. And then kind of reversing it by the time Super happens.
Broly (Z) takes place during the Cell games
Always a great day when MoodZi drops another vid!

Broly’s face cracking open is one of the most metal things i’ve ever seen.

Turles defeat is my favorite one. Love how his greatest strength was also his downfall.
My theory is Broly was so strong he never felt pain before. That's why, after one hard punch, he gave. And he was always jealous of Gokus warrior spirit. His tenacity and will. Broly was gifted with power alone at the time.

He even heads to Vampa to help Broly and co. get established on the planet in safe manner brining capsules to help set up a home. That fragment of Goku would've prevented Gogeta from killing Broly as everything that makes up a fused fighter comes from their base entities. Their mind, their multiplied ki, even the majority of skills they use in combat come from their fusion material fighters.
Super dragon fist will forever be my favourite move, just a fcking dragon explosion
