- Back home Gary is excited to get back to work on his red 1983 Rolls-Royce Corniche because amazingly he has found it a beautiful interior. Seats, panels, centre console - the lot! So with that in place he sets about work rebuilding the car's breaking system (see part details below). Plus, he has a problem with his black 1975 Rolls-Royce Corniche's damaged spark plug thread which requires him to perform a helicoil.

Only complaint about these videos is I wish they were longer, bloody brilliant 🤘😎🤘🚗💨
Great watch as per usual. You need 2 things Gary, a car lift and an hour video for the lads every night and we will all be happy.
I stumbled across this channel. And I thought to myself, 'who is this guy?' he can't be just a car restoration guy, he's got too much swagger. Then I looked him up, and low and behold he's an actor. The quality of your work is amazing sir and the fact that you can do mechanical and bodywork is quite something. The way you use the triumphant horns music piece is also very impressive 🙂. This is my new favourite car restoration channel, keep up the great work!!
Thankyou for tuning in and your kind words! Much appreciated!
Well deserved pick up Gary, look forward to seeing the car complete with the beautiful "new" interior.
You're meticulous attention to detail is infectious. Another brilliant video Gary thank you.
Thanks Adrian. It’s easy. It’s the cars that bring us together and I merely precipitate it!! But thankyou for your kind words. Regards.
I could only dream of having those new brake calipers for my old Corniche! Christmas Day has come for you Gary! Congrats!👍
Video bob will be drooling absolutely beautiful
I’m sure he’ll be copying!! Regards
So happy for you that you found the whole new interiour for your
Corniche! How lucky!
Another mechanic class
Thank you Gary
What a stunning interior and seats to come across. Looking forward to seeing the end result.
Another great episode. Loved the care, and the wonderfully calm explanations.
Thanks guys!
Universe paying you back lad. Lovely stuff Gary
Thanks Simon!
Grey paintwork will look very classy. New interior is absolutely perfect. It's going to be an epic job mind you. Not for the faint hearted.!! Great video.
Seats look superb
What a result Gary a big step forward.
That's spot on. To get it all in one hit...
I know. Extremely lucky! Regsrds
VIDEOBOB WOULD BUY THIS
Hi Gary,Met you at the car show ,You had almost lost your voice,And as you found out l had lost mine,HA ha Love the car ,As a Man U Fan ,Colour is Fantastic.
Post script Not .
The red of Liverpool !!
Wow - that interior is TOTALLY amazing. Will be stunning in your car!
Wow, eat your heart out BobMosely
Another very interesting, and informative video Gary. Your channel has very quickly become a 'must watch' favourite. Keep up the good work!
Thanks mate!
Absolutely ecstatic for you Gary finding that interior! A new lease on life for that car. I do love the red piping with the red car, a perfect sunny, happy color for trips to the French Riviera.
Bit ‘Nikita’ though don’t you think? Elton John? Regards
We’re living on the Riviera and often enjoy a drive along the coast road, where we round the Corniche, always a special moment. It’s truly a romantic place, if you can ignore the rampant corruption.
Gary, I have to agree with some other commenters. A red Corniche is stunning. Plus it looks to be beautiful paint on the car. And with a fresh black interior with matching body color piping?? I’d say keep it red all day!
Lovely interior !! And great colour choice
Life is good Gary!
That interior is the business and will look fantastic in a grey exterior. Another cracking video Gary!
Great job Gary, you’re a good teacher.
Love your channel. Keep them coming!
What a result
Video Bob would love that interior for his Corniche in Vegas Gary.
Another top video with a fantastic Happy helicoil ending. Thanks again
Gary your tool you used for deburing is actually a helicoil removal tool
Thankyou!
Gary,
Your grey Corniche will be even better than the black one when it’s done! Good riddance to the unsightly red paint! (What were they thinking? I have an S1 that some fool painted pimp purple!
I spray painted it over in Matt black for the time being!
Can’t wait to see your next upload!❤
I totally agree. Re-sale red as they used to call it in the trade!! The S1 is a beautiful car. Get it repainted! Regards.
Learned a lot! Great job.
Happy for your good luck with the Rollers interior matches the red bodywork but will look nice in grey looking forward to the end result 👍
Appreciated!
Black with Red Trim.... Video Bob will be v v jealous... well done!
What a fantastic find Gary, it looks brand new! I think the grey exterior with this black and red piped interior will look fantastic.
What shade of grey are you thinking of? One suggestion! I love when they did black interiors with red carpets. It really sets off the black and even more so with the red piping! Can't wait to see this restoration! Thanks so much Gary for again taking us on this journey!
Morning Gary, i could watch your videos all day, you are an absolute genius with the Rolls Royces 😊😊
Much appreciated!
What a find that interior is. It does go nicely with the current red paint work.
Love these videos, keep up the good work…..
You’ve had a right result with that beautiful interior Gary. I think the car should stay red, a real nod to the excess 80’s ! Having said that if you paint it grey you will make a stunning job of it as always. Btw what was the original colour ? Another superb episode, keep them coming mate ! 👍🏼
Thanks Spence. Willow gold…as was the black one incidentally. Regards
@@classic.obsessionVery interesting! I didn’t appreciate it wasn’t always red. Makes changing paint a lower bar, to my mind.
I really like Willow Gold, I love Shad 2’s in that colour, my dad used to take me to Prep School in his ,in the early 80’s
Awesome colour scheme!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻You just can’t go wrong with that. Another relaxing episode, thanks!
Great video Gary. 👍🏻😀
A Corniche is a flamboyant rich mans car ; in red its over the top and likely to attract the wrong attention. Go grey !!!
Sometimes you make your own luck....well done Gary.Cant wait to see the end result 😁👍
Wowww, Gary - so many new bits to play with and acquired very quickly. You lucky b*****....!..enthusiasm a plenty, to press onwith the red Corniche..!
Thanks Chris!
Changing all the brake lines, hoses and callipers absolutely makes sense rather than piecemeal fixes. I’d do the same every time. You virtually never regret spending on such things if you’ve a fundamentally sound vehicle.
I think I saw Bob Moseley peering out from the shrubs Gary.😉
Haaaa!!
Another great video Gary being a former mechanic myself you genuinely come across as you just love working on your cars keep the videos coming 👏
Thanks Colin!
Love your videos, i used to own a 1976 silver shadow 😊25 years ago. I'm getting another one in the next 12 months 😊The red rolls Royce will look awesome in grey 😊😊
Thanks for watching Simon!
Hi Gary I prefer Wurth Time Serts rather than Helicoils I think they are a bit more robust Kind Regards from Liverpool.
That's Video Bobs dream Rolls. Black and Red.
Leave it Red
Enormous callipers, they are really mighty.
They’re just front ones. The rears are twice the size!
What a find! Great video as always Gary, nice to see that lovely Corniche coming together again. I think grey is a great colour, a little more stately than red on a Rolls Royce and the red piping will set off nicely with it. Plus the Elite and the 928 are both red and you can have too much of a good thing!
A brand new black interior in a red Corniche?? I can hear Video Bobs head exploding from here! 😂
I have to say that the miraculous Corniche interior with the bright red piping really does justify keeping the car in that bold red…. why bother with all the extra expense and effort of a repaint… just let the car come together naturally, someone will love it !
Lucky find with the interior . Always thought Shadow/ Corniche cars looked better in darker colours
It'll piss out everywhere, proper language that is.....🤣🤣🤣
Gary,
U said you want to paint the Corniche grey! Ok!
Maybe consider painting it RR pewter! What do you think?
Could be very elegant with that colour interior. Think about it!
Greetings for California!❤
There’s a grey on the newRR four wheel drive that I think maybe a good choice. Regards
More jam than Hartley's! Keep it up lad!
BOOM 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Looks great.
Gary have you put the front seats around the wrong way surely the armrest go in the centre or have you just put place them in for now.
You can leave the colour for now if you like it or change it to a different colour later.
Enjoy your program you make it look so easy best wishes
Hi David, yes they’re just placed in for space. Regards.
What a bit of luck! Your plans for the Corniche sound great.
That car has not aged at all it still looks like a rich man’s car
As usual, informative and interesting. Lucky find with the replacement interior - that leather looks really nice and soft...
Thanks Neil
love your work mate - always a great help to watch your vids with my ongoing restotoration
Enjoyed this!! Surprised you can hit the brake pedal though in those clown boots 😂
Video Bob interior
That’s videobob’s interior !! 🤣
Great stuff! could you tell us a bit about the history of your house? looks very interesting.
Brilliant episode, Thanks!
Onya gazza
You could do with some form of car lift methinks 😉
Tell me about it…
Great treat thank you !
You’re very disciplined with gloves. I’m too old school now and don’t like wearing them.
You are one lucky man 🎉 you better do the lottery 🤣🤣🤣
I feel like I’ve already won it!! Regards
Top job👌🏻🏁😎
amazing that was
Thanks for your continued support as always! Did you sort your tappets?
Surprised those ceramic tiles don''t crack under the steel jacks. But, they sure look good.
They’re double thickness. I planned it especially when I built it years ago. Regards
Gary, you said you will paint your red Corniche grey. Will it be metallic grey? That would look really C😎😎L ❗️
Thinking of going for a flat grey. There’s a nice grey I’ve seen on the new SUV RR…
Cannot believe it was you with the spark plug
Hi John. It may have been or may have been cross threaded by one of the previous owners and I just aggravated it but if it’s done a coupla times eventually it’ll follow the rogue thread. Regards
I’m surprised you can helicoil the head in situ. I’m impressed with the ability to get all the ally swarf up and out.
I’ve done a few of these over the years. These kits are fantastic!
Now you got the interior with red piping you have to keep the car red mate! Oh by the way after 4 garages B/Sing me about my R129 roof I bit the bullet and took it to a specialist who stuck it on his 25 year old computer and cancelled the faults derived from charging the battery from flat - £60! Nothing really!! Took it to the Lygon but never got the roof down, weather terrible! Oh well next time!
Well done Jon!
@@classic.obsession Well done yourself you got a great thing going with this channel. So many seem to really connect with the way you work and attention to detail not to mention the dry humour! Look forward to the red roller's completion. What a ride!!
Hi Gary - I like the idea of changing the colour to grey. For some reason I thought red didn't suit the Corniche. I own a 'Titan Grey' Saab with the excellent colour code '303' (the Airfix boy in me appreciated that no.! It was also the number Eric Carlsson used on his Saab 96 sometimes) if you want to take a look as it's one of the nicest 'greys' I've come across. Great result with the seats too! As a matter of interest, will you be re-colouring the red piping? I think the seats would look a lot better with a dark grey piping! I look forward to seeing what you come up with! Cheers!
I think the red piping would go lovely with the grey and a grey headliner with a black soft top. Regards
@@classic.obsession I suppose it will provide some contrast - looking forward to it.
I do agree Gary the car will look well better grey 👍
You have done for rebuilding cars , what bob ross did for canvas
You’re not the first person to make that observation!! Regards
it’s meant to be, leave the car red, the new interior is matched perfectly, it’ll be stunning.
Great video as always!
Great video as usual! The front seats in the RR Corniche are wrong. The armrests in the chairs must of course be in the middle. Why are they against the doors?
Because they’re just placed in there as I need the space!! Cmon. Dyou really think I’m that stupid?!! Regards
@@classic.obsession 5.46 into the video they are misplaced. But that you are stupid, hardly! You have among the best channels here on u-tube.
👏👏👏👏
A scene from minder...
Arthur: Come outside Dave and have a look at the new Rolls
Dave: I'm not interested Arthur...
Arthur: But Dave...its a Corniche
Dave: Arthur i don't care if its a Cornish pasty...your slate is now upto £300
I saw an episode of minder recently where Arthur buys a willow gold corniche convertible from a show room. Brake pumps were really noisy when he started it up. He ended up saying it wasn’t for him…regards
Beautiful result with the interior as rare as hens teeth. I'm trying to locate a period Corniche wooden steering wheel for my 1973 2 Door Saloon I would prefer, it has to be genuine though, the headrests on mine where special order, one much more heavily padded for the driver, and 2 sets of fog lamps top and bottom of the chrome bumpers, purists have said...that wasn't correct, however I have those on the original Lex Mead Sales invoice, they were for "Continental Driving" all the paperwork including colour swatches for the car, and the aircon tags for the switches too, the green log book, the deposit receipt for the initial payment too. originally ordered in Mercedes Beige! Yes.... as stated on the order to Rolls Royce, it's repainted in Beaudeux... in my opinion is a lovely beguiling colour for the car
I hate it when purists get it wrong but persist they’re right. I have the same problem with them telling me the weather/trim strips along the side of my XJS aren’t original. They are jaguar stamped and were a phenomenally expensive extra when new. Regards.
...well... at least you must have been able to get all those brake components for the price of one of my front brake discs (okay Pads and Rotors for sure, maybe a couple of the Calipers)
Hi. Whats your car?
@@classic.obsession 21 Dodge Challenger Scat pack(stick), but I’ve got the hellcat brakes up front. So some of that lingering Pandemic pricing if you get my drift. Almost 5 grand Canadian for both front rotors lol
Ooph!
@@classic.obsession Porsche 928 parts look like a bargain compared lol. Looking forward to the next video! Have a nice week!
13:57 What about the chips? Do you count on the grease on the tap to catch all of them?
Grease catches most of it and as I said, if you leave the spark plug out and start the engine any other debris shoots out of the chamber. Regards.
@@classic.obsession Thanks for the answer
nice gouse, er, house
You’re just trying to wind up @videobob
It’s his colors!
Haaaaa!!
Nice kit, but that doesn't look like the original RR style hides.
Agreed. It’s difficult to tell though as all the interiors I compare it to are worn in and have patina. I think the pleats should be plumper and more filled. Regards
did I miss an episode? lol. Where did the red Corniche come from and what happened to the interior? 🤷♂
Track back? Are you subscribed? It’s free you know? You’ve probably missed a load!! Regards
Does Videobob Moseley know 😮 the colours are right up Videobobs street 😮
Yep. That’s why he bought one I think..
@@classic.obsessionno great compliment having him copy you.
Swap the roofs from the 2 Corniche
