I feel like Tim Minchin is one of the most technically skilled pianist-singers out there. He plays stuff that would be cool and impressive on its own and then sings over it with impeccable, effortless delivery
And the acting performance!
Not just singing! Singing while maintaining eye contact with the crowd!! He is almost never looking at his hands.
and comedic facial expressions at the same time. He is doing 3 things - singing, playing, acting.
And apparently he's mostly selftaught on the piano as well.
He actually trained himself in the blues and used to make a living by playing in blues bands
It's like if Bo Burnham was slightly more serious, but only slightly more serious, and also classically trained
And skilled
I don’t think Tim is classically trained
@@mrwyatt6006 He has a degree in contemporary music.
@@samueldaniels8415 he doesn’t have any formal training. A degree in music is not the same as being trained in music. He is completely self taught.
@@user-pc3io5ji1o You are aware that music degrees require formal training? While he _could have_ been accepted at his university without prior formal training, he would've gotten formal training at university at the very latest.
I love this whole live album. tim is a great performer and comedian
@@abel6298no
the first Tim Minchin song i heard, and haven't looked back since! he's a genius
Once you've gone Minch' you can't go back.
My first was F Sharp, and i played it for my schools talent show lol.
@@zorro_zorroonce you minchin you can’t minchout
@@abel6298 Do you bots just go from UA-cam video to UA-cam video like how Jesus went from Mishack to Shattarack to Abendigo?
he had us in the first half not gonna lie
Yes, that is the joke
If you think this has a twist, look up his song Cont. It’s even more twisted (but cool).
I understood that reference!
Congrats, the video got renamed because of you
He had us in the first half not gonna lie
"A tinge of ginge in your minge" is such a gold line, plus its delivery was pretty funny
Vividly remember seeing this for the first time on UK TV when it initially aired in 2009. My sister and I were in stiches for pretty much the whole thing, while also being awed by his musicianship. A truly rare genius.
I HIGHLY recommend watching the whole thing, so freaking hilarious.
Tim never dissapoints :)
Damn.. as a pianist & singer that's an impressive level of complexity in the piano part. And an impressive transcription job as well on your part.
Tim saying a letter then starting the next word with that sound is so school song from Matilda of him and I love it
Prejudice predates School Song, but as they’re both written by the same person who’s to say one didn’t inspire the other
3:39 HOLY SHIT THAT WAS GOOD
Dunno why almost half the song was cut out here, but I do recommend that people check out the full version of the song (link in the description).
I guess it was cut to make sure people watch it all and retention is good
it’d be too expensive to transcribe :(
@@GeorgeCollierWhat do you mean? I’m genuinely curious as I know nothing about transcription but have always assumed you have done these yourself
@OfficialZack from what I remember they do some, but by their own words, they prefer to hire people who can do it better for certain songs
@@OfficialZack Check the description, he occasionally outsources to other people. Transcribing is a very long and tedious process
Me who thought he was going to make a song out of a musical slur:
Gotta love Tim❤. It's impossible to capture his genius in one video. or even two or three or ten. Virtuosic pianist, broadway composer, actor, writer, poet, comedian, director and top Aussie.
Soooooo glad you brought another one of Tim's creations to your channel!!
He also Did Darkside and F# so not his first time doing so
@@virgilsparda2505 hence why I said *another one* hahaha
Brilliant bait & switch, supported by stunning singing & sublime piano.
I've loved his work since the 90s & he just keeps getting better.
If going to one of his shows isn't on your bucket list, then don't bother having one.
1:45 *Trys to remember where he’s playing and if he can say it* 😂
It warms my heart that this leprechaun is so talented
the piano virtuosity really elevates this.
He had me for a little longer than I'd like to admit
The last run was so fricking sick
I once heard that fabulous song, then was searching it and couldn't find for some reason. Thank you so much!
Spreading the glory that Tim's made :)
Tampon... (tampon... tampon... tampon... tampon...)
He had me in the first half, I'm not gonna lie.
tim is most likely the only person who can pull off this.
Tim is cleva bastard…one of a kind.
Love him
what a masterpiece
My heart dropped at 3:20
It took me a full two minutes to figure out the other word
Just beautiful
My prayers have been heard. Thanks for this blessing
Tim Minchin - Prejudice is the song btw
He had us in a lie by the half before the second.
what is this amazing fantastic madness? yes please and thank you.
Tim Minchin. His work is a rabbit hole you don't want to climb out of.
Truly an Australian boy 🩷
Saw this live and everyone was silent for a bit 😂
Now I wanna see the rap remix
He's appearance is cool
this is so brilliant
Tim Minchin! lol. I remember seeing him on the Comedy Network ages ago. Absolute gold.
They don’t think it be like it but it does.
Im currently figuring out how to make a Alto sax solo for this song for funsies
🤣🤣 omg he's always such a genius imo
Such a good song. A slight correction (I think) but in bar 56 I think the lyrics are "call me ginger 'less you" ('less being short for unless)
'lest you ginger yourself
Ok George you NEED to transcribe the ending to Casper Fox’s cover of Natural by Imagine Dragons. Just keep in mind while watching that he’s a tenor. Trust me, he will blow your mind.
Masterpiece
Tim Minchin is a Legend!
Talented
*Mandatory Disney wanting a ginger for the live action "The Little Mermaid" movie joke here*
they had me in the first half not gon lie
imo the funniest little bit of this is the "ʸᵉᵃʰ" at 1:10.
One of the most outstanding artists of our time, in my opinion. Truly inspired. Thanks for transcribing so much by him!
Btw if you haven't seen his acceptance speech, it's well worth it - watch it with the introduction he's getting!
ua-cam.com/video/yoEezZD71sc/v-deo.html
His ECU speech is great too.
My ginger. Keepin it real.
Madly in Love with Tim Minchin. I call him Timmy in my head so as to dissipate the need to stalk him relentlessly. Bloody Effing pretentious Genius is Timmy. Cuz yeah, Cat Lady needed yet ANOTHER obsession. (sigh...you can borrow MY dark side consentually...Booger Breath.) oh, eff spelling. This is REAL. Ask Bradley Cooper, who has yet to arrest my marriage potential thingy. He's gotten his tongue stuck in Jennifer's mouth again. So sad.
😢❤😢
I kinda get where the "School Song" where Matilda came from now with its gimmick on the ABC wordplay.
By the title and the letters given in the song, I immediately started switching up the letters and got "ginger" right away 😅
Meanwhile, me, who has certainly had enough Internet for today but also apparently has not had enough Internet for today: G-GREIN? GREIN? What's GREIN? 👁👄👁
Damn the ryhmes, this reminded me of lin manuel lolol
yeah
I died at bloodnut
As a fellow ginger, I say yes! Or maybe that's the whiskey...
But...I know a girl with red hair who's name is actually Ginger.....
Ginga is speaking facts
I see what you did there with the title.
This feels like old Bo Burnham, I see many paralells between their music
yeah Tim is one of Bo's inspirations, they know each other as well
That makes sense, thank you for passing on this knowledge.@@peachpink2831
I love how tin minchin just straight up ended racism with this one
sehr wild
jinjja?
Seen this been there done that
Written by a redhead
So basically Randy Scouse Git?
Tim is an institution
Ginger, please.
My beard is ginger, I got it from my granny
I’m married to a ginger and one of our daughters is a ginger so I can say it all I want.
lifetime G word pass
Thank you for your service.
Is it just me but his voice reminds me of James LaBrie
Is that how you pronounce “ginger”? Because……
If its a ginger, then its a finger.
If its a finger then its a ginger.
As a non-native English speaker, I can't help but ask : what is a ginger? Because I'm being hint that he is not talking about the spice thing.
Red hair
@@joelwaite8882Yeah. Thank you for confirming, I searched the word in urban dictionary and I kinda understand the joke now, but, whith all the search and the explaining, it lost its funnyness.
Ginger Spice from the Spice Girls band is a red head.
The world is too ginger for this.
Like only a ni
nja can sneak up on another ninja
😂
So...do piano players simultaneously read all 3 lines of music and play them at the same time? Without a third hand this seems impossible?
Nah, the bottom two are piano, the top is his voice part.
It's rare, but it does happen. It can help decongest an overpacked stave so you can follow the melody. Also when accompanying singers in rehearsal it is common for the pianist to have to play the vocal lines as well as some synthesis of the accompaniment. It's quite difficult!
Organists do it all the time. On the account of lack of extranumerary hands they have to use their feet.
If glimbus doesnt comment, i’ll be sad
Is this Gm key?
E minor
This guy is mentally insane and yet he is so f'ing cool at the same time!!
In real life he's actually very down to earth.
3:39 I'm pretty sure that the piano part is a quote from a Miles Davis song.
I don't know off the top of my head, does anyone know which?
It sort of sounds like Spain of Chick Corea
I hear something else, it's well known but I don't remember the name, help?
I'm curious, let me know if you find it
@@rosshazael I'm still looking for it.. it reminds me a little of Tamacun by Rodrigo y Gabriela but I'm pretty sure there's a salsa song that matches the notes even better
yeah, I can't remember the piece as well, I'm pretty sure it is Miles Davis, but gotta admit it actually sounds quite like Spain
Go and watch reaction videos to this song, it's amazing. so many people can't spell...
What's up my gingers ❤❤
Such blatant homophonia, smh
Ginger?
MORE TIM MINCHIN PLEASE!!!
I explicitly dislike musical humor but that was pretty god damn good.
That's because Tim is a musician who sometimes does comedy, not the other way around. He is one of the pianists and lyricists there is. Watch Darkside - Awesome Version.
That's because most musical comedy is really basic musically. And this is not.
@@JanneBernards exactly.
"If you're a gingerphobe" is so much funnier to me cause of the start of the song. Just imagine that but with the n-word. I mean, I still wouldn't call someone a ginger if they didn't want me to but dang if the other six-letter-N.G.I.R-slur doesn't hit my ears with a 100 times as much force :P
How many G word in this video ?
Ыыыыыыыыы!
Don't say the G word!
Alto Clef? Pandering to viola players?
I had another word in mind💀
Woosh
that's the whole point. The song is about both words.
It's a valid point, I guess... and "getting lectured at" is a valid style of comedy and music... and I get the joke - you're supposed to think, at the beginning, that he's referring to a different word. But okay...
That is of course the point, by analogy.
