Finally...a clear instructional video on how to upgrade both the dash and door speakers as well as all materials needed. I have been looking for ways to do this but could not find anything on this. I upgraded my stock subwoofer a few years back and always wanted to do the speakers next. This will be my next project
Awesome! Glad I can help. 🙂
Wow I finally see someone make the front bracket for the Lexus IS, now I need this for my 23 IS
In my head…you’re my best friend 😂 guess I have another project to do!
I know what my next project is gonna be now 😁
You really did it!! 👏🙌🙌 you’re the man ✊
Love the fogs
I’m early 👀 but definitely nice video. Definitely have to get a new upgrade to the sound‼️
Great video!! Awesome as always!
❤️
For sure doing this 🙏
Appreciate ya man!
oh god first the dash speakers now the doors,
I ran with 2 JBLs that were 4 inches, big mistake cause i had to cut some of the speaker bracket to get it to fit properly but it was loud and clear
1 skar in the center for more bass-oriented sound for a lower price
now you got me looking into the door speakers
I feel you!! I also did 4" speakers on the dash 3 of them. Infiniti and sound bad ass.
@@ralextres who’d you go for speaker choice? I tried all Skars but too bassy and loss of quality on other parts of the sound spectrum
build is so dope
Thank you!
Looks Good, love VLOGs of your progress or updates of your nice IS. Got to check out my 1 off JDM widebody VIPGT-GS.
Add some foam to the back of the adapters and add some deadening to the outside door skin. Replace that plastic cover with sound deading and it will be even more solid.
Finally, I did the dash speaker replacement for Kicker KSC350, now can do the door 🙂 thanks
Awesome!
How were the kickers? I was thinking about also replacing my dash ones with kicker
@@kawasawaski3708 the KSC series is really good - I am satisfied with the improvement. The mid and high range of sound is that good so I will probably choose 8” woofer for front doors, instead of 6.5” coaxial Kickers 47KSC6504 I was planning to choose before. Anyway, I have 8” small active subwoofer in the trunk so 6.5” coaxials should be a good choice too.
do you think i would be better off with 3 kicker dash speakers with 6.5 coxials or 8 inch woofers. I also dont have any other audio modifications so this will be my first time dipping my toes in.
My audio spec is a basic 6-speaker set, only 2 speakers in dash and no subwoofer at rear. If you are planning to upgrade your subwoofer to something better (I assume you have 8-speaker premium spec if 3 dash speakers installed) then 6.5” coaxials should be fine in terms of providing better quality in mid-high range and the upgraded subwoofer as a source of deep bass.
nice work, the speaker adaptor have a hole on top to run the wire thru, so you don't pinch the wire between the adaptor and the door sheet-metal.
Ooo, good to know!
omg ur the goat
Add some foam speaker rings for even better sound from your speakers.
Definitely easier than doing carplay
Haha! Little bit.
always the best videos and you explain so easily. was just thinking about upgraded my speakers and was wondering if you can size up or have to stay own size ?
Thank you! I think you can size up to an extent. But at some point, you’ll probably need an aftermarket amp the handle much bigger speakers (if I’m not mistaken). Also, you run into the issue of the door panel possibly not being able to fit back on correctly without modification.
Feel you with being sick bro, been throwing up with a stomach bug for 2 days now😭
😕
Great video, i have the Mark Levinson speakers but i'll need to change the door small light under it because one of em is kind of broken (doesn't show the Lexus logo like on the other side)
Thank you! And yeah, not sure how ML compares to these. It might be better.
And I really like the lights that I have, been through numerous types, and these are by far the best. You can use code GREY3IS at checkout too. 🙂

Maybe you can end with a subwoofer on the back side. The spots are prepared. 😮😮
curious why you went with 6.5 instead of 8' for the front speakers?
When searching for 8 inch speakers for the front doors, I didn’t find any solid options. They all seemed like they were mostly for base, and less of a speaker. Plus, the 6.5 have more of a range in terms of vocal and music quality. And, they also still kept some base. I’m sure you can use an 8 inch for the front door, I just chose not to.
Try listen Antonine running Dynaudio esotec or editor and anyone running audiofrog
Love that hood any idea where to pick it up I think tanzoworks no longer up
Thank you! I actually sell them. Feel free to shoot me a DM on Instagram. 🙂
In the video you mentioned the fronts sounded more like they had more base. That because the system was designed to be that way. With your dash sepakers having the widest rannge for vocals and the fronts to act as a sub. Pretty standard tuning from factory these days.
Good to know! I’m not too speaker-savvy.
@@Grey3IS not sure how deep you wanna go. But I would look into a DSP. You make major gains in sound quality with that.
In that case do you think going with a midrange speaker would be best for the fronts? I've heard anything with a tweeter gets wasted on the front door speakers since they are tuned for woofers.
@@noahmonte8581 that is true. Having a tweeter fire right into your leg is less than ideal. I'm not sure if the speaker size in the dash but there are options out there for a middler. Or a wideband speaker that will play all the high and some mid range. Audio dynamics, kicker, morel just to name a few all make the components to really improve sound quality. However factory power can only go so far, a small amp would be recommended.
@@noahmonte8581 True. You can do without tweeters for the front door speakers if you’d like!
Wow, so it works good on the stock amp, even at higher volumes?
Yes it does!
Please so the rear mid sub mine is blown and I want to upgrade
So there's no point replacing the fronts 8" since is just mids? I was thinking to install components to have separate tweeters close to the ears level 🤔
I like the increase in bass from the new speakers!
I just wondering can you just upgrade the front speaker as a component speakers use the 6.5" woofer and the dash speakers as a tweeter? Instead a full range 6,5" in the front door?
Yes! You can definitely do this!
Sorry, didn't watch previous speaker upgrade video. Are you adding this to a stock system, or is there an upgraded amp that is powering the speakers? I have the same car and would love some better sound.
I am using the stock amp still. 🙂
Why did you pinch your speaker wires between the speaker plate and the door panel? Please fix that. This will eventually wear through the shield of the speaker wire. Also add some of the kilmat between the door panel and the speaker adaptor as a gasket seal.
Good points. I’ll look into this.
When is the new car wrap coming? 😅
I love the OEM grey 🙌.
Based on your comment that the front 6.5"s sound a little muffled, can i just go with two packs of JBL Club 64FSL all around? How do you think you would fee if you went that route??
You could definitely do the same all around!
any plans to do a 4is bumper conversion?
Probably not. I really enjoy the triple beam fog lights that I have.
@@Grey3IS oh no, was hoping you will be interested. Hahah no worries. Thank you!
Hopefully works for a 2016
Should be the same!
Did you sound def the rear or just the front, also are the links correct? The front door speaker link looks like the speakers for the dash, I don’t see a link for the club 6520,
Sorry about the link issue! Not sure what happened there, but it is fixed now. And yes, I did sound deadening on the front and rear doors. 🙂
@@Grey3IS cool man great video brother look forwarding to doing the same in the near future!
Do you have to take off the entire door panel if you don’t want to do the sound deadening to replace the speakers? or can you just take off the speaker cover on the bottom of the door?
Unfortunately the speaker cover is built into the door panel. So, removing the door panel is needed regardless.
The front and back use the same harness ? From Amazon ?
@@rashad8685 It’s the one from Crutchfield! All linked in description. 🙂
Hey man I have a question. Do you and @Miko 3IS know of each other? If so, 💯I really like both y'all content
Hmm, I don’t know them. 🤔
I also watch both of their channels. Miko and grey3is are carrying the 3is community.
@@Clevejunior Just looked him up! Seems like a nice guy. 🙂
How many sound dampening sheets did you use per door roughly? I dont want to order to much
I ended up having a bunch extra. I’d say I used about 3 sheets per door.
Also I would tell people to stay away from tensowerks it looks like I got jacked over 2gs on a order that's been about 6 months now still mo steering wheel and other stuff
Oh man! Sorry to hear. Yeah, I’m not too sure what’s going on with them. It looks like they are at a halt of some sort. I recommend contacting your credit card company and trying to explain that you never received what you ordered. Feel free to reach out if you are looking to purchase some of the things that they sold. I am now selling some of the items that they did, too.
@Grey3IS everything i ordered was custom like the steering wheel and the shifter knob
@@sjgomez79 Ahh, gotcha. I recommend lexusacc.com for those, then. (You can also use code GREY3IS if you’d like) 🙂
did you have any sound dampening things left or did you use it all ? im not sure if i should order the 36 sqf or two 18 sqf which are cheaper for some reason.
I had a decent amount left! I used about 3-4 sheets per door.
Nice vid, what year is your IS and is the screen OEM?
Thank you! I have a 2017 200t f sport. And I have the larger OEM NAV screen. I added CarPlay to it with this module that I sell. 🙂
@@Grey3IS thanks, watched the vid that you installed the module. I have a 2017 too, what year/model screen did you get? Wanted to upgrade mine before getting the module.
@@SamNguyen-mu7wh It’s the screen that came with my car. I have the navigation package, and it comes with a larger screen from the factory. If you were to get a larger screen, I believe you would have to go with an aftermarket android version.
So no upgrading the speaker wire?
Nope!
Nice build but remove the JBL you have a Lexus sir not a Toyota
Haha! I enjoy JBL
Do you know what speakers are the front door ones and size
@@kawasawaski3708 They’re originally 8”, but I converted to 6.5”. I also explain in the video 🙂.
How’s the difference w the door speakers?
It’s great! More bass and sound clarity at high volumes.
Let me know if you ever get subs trying to figure out how to stop the fuel door from rattling can't find a fix for this .
I had subs, but I took them out when I installed my bags. I would maybe try to stick some sound deadening inside the fuel cap door. That might help.
Can anyone link cheaper front speaker adaptors?
Hope someone can help! I know mine isn’t the cheapest, but it works very well. I bet there cheaper ones out there though 🤷♂️.
You turned a Lexus into a Toyota by using JBL😂
Worst speakers. Anything by Harman International is garbage. Get yourself speakers that aren’t made in China. Get a dsp amp and speakers from Germany. Audiofischer Tec
Thank you for your input!
