  • It doesn't get much more basic and easy than this video!! EVERY dog owner should implement this into their daily routines! I take you through a 10 minute 'exercise' that encourages my dog to be independent AND get in some good cardio! Snow isn't stopping us!! What about YOU??
    Would love to hear in the comments how you all create independence with your dogs!

    As much as I wish I had sent my dog to Brandon for training before bringing him home ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU I am so grateful for this down-to-earth, practical guide. His training techniques and tips really work. Thank you as well for dedicating your life's work to rescue dogs, and to rescuing those of us who want the very best for our 4-legged family members.

    I do the same thing with my 18mo GSD. We just go in the back yard, I crack a beer and he acts a fool, just runs laps, picks up pinecones and throws them and chases them, finds sticks that I didn't even know existed. We do that for about 20 minutes everyday when I get home from work. Then we go inside and do some obedience work for a few minutes. After that he's pretty chill and content with laying on the floor and chilling.

      @@AndyKrueger what would an ideal routine look like for a malinois?
      In other videos you said 6 training 10 min each. And then potty breaks otherwise puppy/dog is in crate. When would this dog free time fit in? Daily or weekly or multiple times a day? And is it different for a 5 month puppy vs a 2 year old dog?

    This place is paradise, Andy Krueger! I have a German Shepherd in an apartment, I need to take long walks and release her in a park that is close to my apartment every day. She will start guard training with a trainer, I think this could be a source of stress. After watching this video I realized that I need to take her off-leash trails with me. We have a house in another city still under construction with an area of 14 thousand square meters of lawn. She will live there. I know people who have sheepdogs like border collie, malinois and german in apartment, but they practice sports and take their dogs with them. Thanks a lot for the videos! Watching from Brazil.

    The problem with a 30 or 50 foot leash I learned the hard way along time ago trying to stop her 7080 pound German Shepherd going full speed by grabbing the lawn lead or trying to step on it Moscow with grabbing it was a great way to dislocate my shoulder and my elbow my neck came from me just not thinking so think ahead with along with people and think ahead of your dog look around look at things he might get attracted to and want to takeoff on but do not I repeat do not try and grab that long lead as your dog passes you at 30 miles an hour and he’s 8085 pounds all muscle and expect it to end well for you it won’t it might hurt Him as well it’s always funny when people tell cops just an a long lead of the dog takes off I’ve seen cops get their legs caught up and do a complete flip backwards it was interesting well actually I do love your videos the more I watch what I just had that little part about you should always be able to recall your dog without an E collar and dog she get used to being screamed at in an emergency when you try and stop your dog because most people will scream at the dogs out of panic I wonder where you’re located out of

    Great video Andy! I used to do that mistake, constantly working my dogs trying not to make any mistakes with the playtime and it was kinda stressful for both of us! I now understand the importance of just letting my dog be a dog, letting them go out do their thing! Some times after 10 minutes maybe I’ll say some commands to them just to keep them focused on me and to have the clarity on their mind being able to switch “now we work now we play” I take some good heel or a sit for example and then playtime again! All the heat of the dog has been cooled down and then after a break on their boxes they’re ready for some training sessions!

    A tired dog is usually a well train dog a tired dog is easy to work with sometimes in one of the biggest problems dogs get into with people at home and not professionals to as they get bored and it causes a lot of licking problems chewing problems destructive round they’re just bored so what you’re suggesting they do is a really good idea and I bet they sleep well and that mal looks like they are here but has a lot of energy

    Just discovered your videos recently; although I do not have your dog breed (mine is a standard poodle) I really appreciate this video of letting the dog be a dog. I had to chuckle at your “bad weather” with an inch of snow? As up here in Alaska, got about 5 feet of snow with trails everywhere so the “wide open” spaces aren’t there right now and hungry, cranky moose are currently an issue. Rigged up a couple long leads and took him for a “dog be a dog” and it was quite nice. Thanks for that tip.

    I do agree completely about dogs need a time just to be a dog thank you for pointing that out that’s something people overlook all the time I told people that they looked at me like why are you crazy I need to have him wanna control every second when I was talking about above was in emergency if you need to recall you dog first thing you need to do is scream at the top of your lungs come back or stop or staying a lot of dogs will get startled with people scream at them but I’m sure you know that but what’s the first thing someone’s gonna do maybe not you because you know better is there gonna scream at the top of their lungs so the dogs better get used to being screamed out in emergency Latin Ingri way just an oh my God Way

    I understand the car but whatever happened to the recall what happens for example you run out of batteries or it gets broken for some reason if you call your dog and he’s heading straight for the pond he won’t recall he’ll just keep going well that’s a number one dog trainer I understand it takes a lot more work to do that and you could probably do it with a collar and a car that you have in five minutes but I do admire your safety precautions inAdmitting you need to use it And I’m not against the colors I think LA PD uses it for all their canines although I’ve asked questions of them will they do if there’s a malfunction and nobody wants to out recall or respond to anything with the rain told what to do I haven’t really got an answer oh well good luck enjoy your dogs can you do a great job you really do but just be honest with people and say if I tell my dog to come back and he doesn’t that’s why are the collar on so my dogs neck really drained completely easy to say on my part I know but just be honest thanks

    Question for you Andy. Do you think allowing the dog to just be a dog and run around on his own getting exercise is mentally stimulating to them? Reason I ask is because I’ve heard other trainers talk about the importance of adding obedience while exercising the dog because that way you won’t just build an athlete but you’ll also be mentally draining the dog. What’s your thoughts?

    • @AndyKrueger
      @AndyKrueger  2 роки тому +1

      Excellent question! Ummm, mentally stimulating maybe, but nothing like obedience training. The other trainers are definitely right about that, but does totally depend of course. Since my dog gets tons of training and is very reliable off leash, this method helps him. but if things were different I may work in more recalls etc. I look to mentally exhaust during ob then I let him free roam/ run outside and do his own thing. Helps to decompress mentally and gets lots of great exercise. Every dog will have a slightly different recipe! 🙌🏻

    Hi Andy, I want to thank you for your effort in making videos. I found your channel a week ago and after this video I'm clicking Subscribe button. As a new Subscriber I have a few questions: How old should be in order to use e-collar? (Belgian Malinois) Where are you located (Country, state)? Can you make it video about tracking the progress of the dog or what dog should know at, let's say, 8 weeks, 10 weeks, 3 months, 4 months, 6 months? I want to compare knowledge of my puppy to the expert trained dog and see how far I'm behind with training or maybe I'm pushing my dog to hard too quickly.

    • @AndyKrueger
      @AndyKrueger  2 роки тому +3

      Thank you 🙏🏼
      Age is totally dependent on the dog and trainer, so difficult to generalize! You should implement when the dog is ready. I’m in the Midwest, US.
      I’d recommend changing your mindset a bit. Don’t compare yourself to others so much, just focus on the dog in front of you and never stop learning. You could always find someone who makes you feel ‘behind’, but I’ve found having my own goals that I follow leads to the most success. If you check out my other videos, they may give you some good ideas! I’ve also been posting videos of Freddy since I got him at 10 weeks old, so you can see some progression there 🙏🏼
      I will also answer this in more detail during my live Q&A 🙌🏻🙌🏻
