    Hey folks, an abused dog would never show that kind of trust and love at the end showing belly and all. Poor dog was living in deep fear and severe PANIC. He pushed the dog beyond that horrible state of mind to show there is nothing to be afraid of. The dog had all the tricks in the book to not confront the fear like snapping,biting,putting paws on the leash and so on. Thanks TDD for breaking the ice and giving that dog a better future with trust,calmness and best of all LOVE FOR STRANGERS.

      You know absolutely nothing about dogs this dog is panicking and stressed out because its being choked out. How would you like being hung from a leash. This man has videos of him encouraging his german shepherds fighting each other.

      robfel68 I agree with you. People are so conditioned to think that treats and passiveness trains a dog. This dog was in a bad state of mind. The dog was throwing tantrums to avoid anyone's demands. He did an excellent job pulling that dog out of its own head. This is exactly what this dog needed. If he hadn't done this with the dog, inevitably she would have had to be euthanized for being a dangerous dog. Not a life. He literally may have saved that dogs life. He understands their body language and knows what needs to be done. Great job. This dog can now be on the road to a happy and content life as long as the owner learns and doesn't resort back to her old ways. Excellent job Dog Daddy.

      Yes, I agree. He did a great job. And I appreciated that he showed that "nitty gritty" hard work in the video, which can be risky because you might get the oddball, ignorant person saying that he is choking the dog.

      what if, she'd been corrected so much for walking away or being not close to him that she was doing everything she could to avoid that correction, which to us looked like a desire to be pet. Belly up is usually an appeasement signal, especially in this context. She's doing whatever she can to avoid that correction and appease the handler (person that was choking her out, hissing at her like a fucking snake and forecefully trying to muzzle her). it has nothing to do with if she likes you. he was putting pressure on the leash during the petting too when she would try and walk away, so its not like she had a choice. He also pulls her onto him twice and she tries to get away from him and is actively uncomfortable w it. She's tolerating it because what other choice does she have. she wouldnt even offer him eye contact ffs. no training was done here, this was just mentally and physically abusing a dog until it was so exhausted and shut down that all she could do was try and appease the guy. despicable. if your training looks abusive it's because it is.

      Agree. You get to see it gradually happening. You also notice the consistency, particularly in the neutral calm but firm energy of the trainer. That’s challenging and some owners just don’t have it. This was a sweet but under socialised dog. Needed boundaries set to feel safe and know how to behave - human children are very similar (Im not suggesting getting physical with kids, you need to do that with actions - showing up essentially- and words)

      I worked with my male Doberman for about a month or so to make him walk normally on a leash. He was still a puppy at that point but everyone in the neighborhood looked at me like I had a demon on a leash. I even had the " bike riding girl gang" say Not to like him bc he was the bad guy from the movie UP. I had a girl with a chihuahua in her arms scream at him for like 3 min when he got loose and and all my dog was doing was just sniffing at them. I ended up yelling back at the the girl to shut up bc she was making all of the dogs including the other neighborhood dogs upset

      @Cynthia Austin - This dog's reactions remind me of the flock of little sparrows eating seed in my back yard. At the slightest change in conditions, they all panic and fly off... even if nothing is there! The most important thing is to stay with the dog as she goes through her fear reactions. And maintain confidence, which gives her reassurance. At this early stage of training, it's more like an intervention!

    The Guide elaborates on the techniques used on the show. The examples given in the ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxECnmSvBSv_NGWx4_ChD73pF3NYZwI2F3 are helpful and some of the techniques suggested very useful. One such technique/tool suggested was the lure stick to encourage a small dog to keep up with the heel command. I have a small dog who lags behind smelling any and everything and find it hard to keep bending over while walking to his level. The lure stick is great also for another dogs focus and sprinting at anything that catches her eye. The stories about different dogs, their different temperaments, have been helpful, especially Lulu's: After reading about Lulu's challenges I felt relief concerning one of my rescues that I have had for 10 years. Over many years I have checked out many training books from the library, watched different shows, DVDS, bought training books, taken lessons and this book is the best by far! Kindness, patience and perseverance works.

DD just did in a single hour what many other trainers couldn't do in months & months of time!! This man is a genius reading dogs behaviors & correcting them. The fact this puppy gave DD her belly at the end shows how much love & respect goes into his techniques. @@colvinsmith9325 it’s not appeasement coming from the dog..do you have dogs by chance? Have you raised these breeds by chance? He didn’t use a snack nor did he use things she accepted. He dominated her mindset by patience and assertiveness, creating a better system for an owner and dog relationship to happen. The dog is happier, how could it not be when instead of getting scolded, the dog has been mentally curbed to for the domestic situation. So now it’s much more positive reinforcement and energy without negative correction. As he said, other owners appeased the dog with treats and food, the dog isn’t appeasing anyone over getting what she wants. Lest you also forget…dogs naturally follow pack leaders instinctively and it works best for them..but let me guess that’s appeasement? 🤔

    • @jaygonzales8258
      @jaygonzales8258 2 роки тому +11

      @@colvinsmith9325 thats the whole point of training, getting the dog to do what it has to do regardless of appeasement.. most people would just throw their hands up in the air and let that bad behavior continue until it becomes a mood, then the mood turns to temperament, then temperament turns into personality trait.. then you have an incontrollable dog because you never took control and let the dog develop bad habits and no boundaries. and now you have to really work and train the dog much more intensely... when it would of been much easier and less firm training needed if you starting taking control on day one you had that dog!
      And ofcourse every dog is different, you wouldn't need the same amount of physical intensity and energy when training a unruly corgi or poodle...

I've seen this in the comments to Dog Daddy's videos and among friends. Lack of skill is one thing, but these people (usually women) pull this moral superiority, one-upmanship, compassion thing about never being cruel, never hurting the dog, and essentially refuse to be firm. Sometimes they're also self-righteous about having adopted a rescue. Drives me nuts.

    Exactly what my dog needs. I asked the shelter which dog needed to go home the most. They brought out “Lou”. They said he had pretty much grown up in the shelter. A behaviorist was working with him a bit and you could tell he was very smart. He lacked any focus, jumped and nipped. Not much socializing to learn the rules. You could tell that he was unsure and needed a leader to guide him. He was about a year old then and it has almost been a year now. He has come so far. At first he was afraid/unsure about everything. Every little thing was new . Cars,bikes,motorcycles,garbage cans,plastic bags,leaves,tools,toys,scooby snacks ... and people. One by one ,through exposure , he has become good friends with all but new people. Only a few people have been able to win him over. Maybe because of the time spent in the shelter, he seems pretty good with most animals. New people are still something we are working on. I want this guy to be able to relax and enjoy meeting people. Not sure what someone did to my buddy, but I’m determined to help him over this hump. Might be time to come to one of your classes to make Lou happy and whole. Your system of training meant that you could not let the dog get its way. Its behaviour had to be defeated by you which took an hour as your repeated. Your persistence and way of speaking to the dog won and by you winning the dog also won as it could let its guard down to receive affection from its leader (you).

      He's very good at being more stubborn than the dog. It's very simple but you must commit to it at all times. Never let them win those battles.
