Met a Lady at a mutual friends wedding...I was the bartender...later on in the evening we danced....and and danced...and danced...Aha Take on Me, Eric Clapton Wonderful Tonight and Chris deBurgh Lady in Red were especially memorable.....oh yes and the Lady became my Wife ❤
Finally Chris de Burgh , one of my all time favorite singers. He is such an amazing, very underrated artist and a wonderful human being. This is of course his most famous song, but he has so many beautiful songs , too many to mention. Maybe “ Borderline” would be a good one to react too.
The first time I heard Chris de Burgh I was an instant fan. He always seemed like such a warm, approachable person... wish I could have met him and told him how much I enjoyed his music. Great choice for a reaction, Beth. :)
In my mind, it changed to the lady in red hair 😍. Amazing how close to the studio recording his voice is. Always love this song. Respect it even more now.
I saw him in a club in San Antonio. Probably 1983 when he was touring for Man on the Line. I was not old enough to be in the club. Amazing show. And after the show he just jumped off the stage and mingled with the crowd. I wish he had a bigger audience in the US.
Back around the time when this song came out I had gone out to dance club with a female friend of mine. Not a girlfriend but we were pretty close. We danced and talked the whole evening up until they were about the close the place. I asked her to dance one more dance with me and she said there was no more music. I took her by the hand, led her to the dance floor and sang this entire song to her as we were the only ones dancing. I think it made her fall in love with me. We were together for quite a long time, but not any more. I still think about her and that night whenever I hear this song. Magical song and a magical moment.
This is a beautiful song. I love it that you caught a little of Paul Simon in this performance. I saw him a few years ago in Seattle. Kind of a bucket list thing there.
Good reaction! Through the twists and turns of life, Chris had an Irish father but was born in Venado Tuerto, Santa Fe province, Argentina...incredible
A beautiful song with a wonderful voice. I lived in the US in 1987 when this song was on the charts. A dear friend recorded it for me on a k7 tape in memory of when we met. So, every time I hear this song I go back to that wonderful past.
Thank you, Maria! I'm glad you enjoyed my reaction to the song. It's incredible how music can take us back to specific moments in time. By the way, I'm also a musician and have a track on Spotify. I would love it if you could give it a listen! Here's the link: open.spotify.com/track/6qfvKbg6ukHJOGykx2MARB?si=dc5ca0d87d3d40d2. Thank you for your support!
I remember my brother getting the very best of Chris de Burgh out of the library and it had some great song on it particularly ship to shore, don’t pay the ferryman, in a country churchyard and satin green shutters. I bought the 12 inch single of Lady in Red after it came out when I was in Scotland for the commonwealth games in Edinburgh and I left it in the window of my parents car and it warped. I think the b side was say goodbye to it all which was a great track.
My nomination would be Tina Dico. When she was in Zero 7 she was breathtaking, but behind the scenes she was very homesick, so she went home to Denmark and was happy to be a big fish in a small pond.
My beloved parents were married in the late 1950’s and were beautiful ballroom dancers together - they had never danced with another partner. My Dad died at 64 years old, far too young, and my Mum would play this song when she couldn’t contain her grief as it was the last song they danced to. Beautiful.
i took a lux cruise in the Med and my love met me in the bar in a beautiful red dress.....took my breath away and we danced the night away.....this was my favorite song at the time ...... she passed and my heart strongly reacts to this song
Great song. One of the reasons that I love listening to Chris de Burgh. I would also recommend "High On Emotion" as he hits some high notes (for Chris) and just belts it out.
Lovely song back in the day. I had forgotten about it. Beth, glad you did this. Interesting pronunciation of "lady" by the singer. It almost sounds like a short "e" sound (second syllable), rather than a long "A" sound, as in the US.
His voice in this song, flows much like a dress would as she walked across the room. So it adds just that little bit extra colour to the memory. Beautiful.
One of the most beautiful and romantic songs ever. This is the only song of his I've heard, but I've heard it a million times. If it's reflective, he really doesn't have a great singing voice. Fair and shaky. But in this song, it seems to add to the sincerity.
I went to see him in concert when i eas 9 in 1991 and he threw cards into the crowed and i was given one my another fan in the crowed god bless them. I dont think he tried as much as you are saying.. irish people just sing without thinking!!! Perhaps your right but he isnt thinking the way you are!!
I always think its funny how people opinions are so different. why can't you like all of a mans work ? why does it have to be one or the other? Don't pay the Ferryman is a great song but so is Lady in red. It just shows different sides of a talented man. embrace all of it. Its all Good.
I've always loved Chris de Burgh; Don't Pay the Ferryman is one of my favorite songs from the 80s. But you corrected yourself from calling him British to Irish. He's actually more British than Irish. His parents were British but he lived much of his early life in Ireland but he went to boarding school in England. So his accent is more British than Irish.
So....an ex-girlfriend of mine was a piano player and singer and she serenaded me (a short, chubby boy) with this once. I'm not sure a red dress would suit me but when it comes to this song, I am a lady in red :p
Pls, your comments for this other Classico: Colin Vearcombe (Black) "Wonderful life" (live). That song is a classical of 1987. 🇬🇧 This performance was earlier 2000. He died in January 2016😢 Many thanks Beth.😉 ua-cam.com/video/ydb4AM2B6RY/v-deo.html
I think when people object to things being described as "cheesy" they have the slang dictionary definition in mind: "(informal) not very good or original, and without style, in a way that is embarrassing but funny. Chintzy: The movie's special effects are cheesy and unconvincing."
Please show and comment on Frank Sinatra still near his peak, at ua-cam.com/video/8Q0zijm_LOQ/v-deo.html during his revolutionary partnership with Nelson Riddle's arrangements (band doesn't ever play the melody and FOLLOWS his acapello lead. Sinatra had spent years perfecting his breath control, innovating his phrasing, and speaking the ballads directly to each listener! An entire generation of singers tried to copy his style (and several still do, like Michael Buble). By the mid-1960s (his in color specials), smoking and drinking cost him his voice and breath control, so he'd "speak-sing" his songs in a "jazzed up" way (such as hits like "(I did it) My Way."
Why would your people be asking to review this song and not........ " Dont Pay The Ferryman" or "Spanish Train" i think they have missed an opportunity
another classic by Chris you may wish to react to is 'I'm Counting On You' written by Chris at a time the IRA was most active. Here Chis performs the song with Celtic Woman. Beautiful... ua-cam.com/video/fUH7RYIZR6E/v-deo.html OFFICIAL RELEASE
It is ironic that you are reacting to this song and you have red hair this song fits you Beth and yes i do know he is talking about a dress so don't grill me lol
Hi Beth!! I'd love to see you react to this song, "Fascinação", performed divinely by brazilian singer Elis Regina: ua-cam.com/video/rm7ve4VT5wE/v-deo.html ; also this, by Gal Costa, wonderful: ua-cam.com/video/8KHtYIL7_-Q/v-deo.html
I was a big fan in the 80s, but this song - although it made him hugely popular - turned him into something else I could not listen to. His early tunes like Devils's Eye, Just in time, Borderline and of course Crusader and many more are fantastic. This isn't. Sorry.

Love the breathy spoken "amazing" he does live. Gives it even that much more sincerity.
I absolutely love Chris De Burgh! An amazing songwriter and storyteller.

This is simply a gorgeous song. Thanks for reacting to the live version. What a great voice.
My pleasure!

so beautiful song, so many babies were concieved on it
My first experience listening to Chris de Burgh was with the song "Flying". It's worth a reaction to this song from the 70s. Greetings from Brazil.
I saw him in a club in San Antonio. Probably 1983 when he was touring for Man on the Line. I was not old enough to be in the club. Amazing show. And after the show he just jumped off the stage and mingled with the crowd. I wish he had a bigger audience in the US.

And i get to see him live again in Melbourne next year... yay
De Burgh was born to an Irish father and a Scottish mother. His family moved to Ireland when he was two years old and he grew up in County Wexford…
Through the twists and turns of life, Chris had an Irish father but was born in Venado Tuerto, Santa Fe province, Argentina...incredible
@@RicardoCamargowait isnt he British?
@@HeleneOl-os3uqSí, es irlandés, sólo que nació en Argentina, (porque al parecer sus padres eran diplomaticos destinados allí)
This is a beautiful song. I love it that you caught a little of Paul Simon in this performance. I saw him a few years ago in Seattle. Kind of a bucket list thing there.
A Very simple song to sing if you got the vocal training
Good reaction! Through the twists and turns of life, Chris had an Irish father but was born in Venado Tuerto, Santa Fe province, Argentina...incredible

One of the best slow songs ever ❤️
One of the most romantic songs of all time. Thanks for taking me back down memory lane.
Love your reaction... and love Lady in Red, easily one of my top 5 all time favs. Thanks!!!
the cheesiness of the meaning.... ok, but what a melody... so simple and so delivering... beautiful. Thanks Beth
You're so welcome!
not cheesy, just completely emotionally sincere
My nomination would be Tina Dico. When she was in Zero 7 she was breathtaking, but behind the scenes she was very homesick, so she went home to Denmark and was happy to be a big fish in a small pond.

It's not the first time he's SEEN her, just the first time he's really NOTICED her (listen to the lyrics).
Exactly!!

One of my favs when I was a lot younger. Sorry Chris, I almost forgot about you! Thanks for the memories!
His voice in this song, flows much like a dress would as she walked across the room. So it adds just that little bit extra colour to the memory. Beautiful.
CdeB is the best
He gets a lot of flak from many quarters but to me, he's such a natural singer.
"I should have worn red!" ...But Beth, you always wear the beautiful red that God gave to you!!
Haha! I forgot about that mop!
For the less cheesy-pop side of Chris de Burgh, I'd suggest trying 'Spanish Train' 👻 and 'Patricia The Stripper' 😳
Beth is a great Lady in Red. :)

I've heard him for the first time singing the song 'Don't Pay The Ferryman'in 1982.The song The Lady In Red was written for his wife Diane.
AND Viggo broke his toe when he kicked that helmet!
Can't believe there's no Supertramp reacts yet. 🙃
Would love to dance to this song with you Beth!

It is played and sung by every wedding band in North America especially if the bridesmaids are in red dresses
So the band sings specifically about the bridesmaids being beautiful and not the bride? That would be rather unlikely.
@@alittlebitgone well the song is not lady in white.
@@alittlebitgone
Would you actually want the band to sing love songs to your bride on your wedding day?
