The world collectively stopped when this song came out. Everyone was blown away ❤
@That's Not Funny,That's Sick yeah, after that, it pretty much ended her popularity
True. I was...but then she went on SNL which I also saw and her career was finished in the USA. From the top to the bottom of the scrap heap in one day.
I believe last i heard she was living poor in north jersey. Her life is 💩now
No offense, but it wasn't that good. I certainly didn't think twice about it when it came out. Don't get me wrong, it's good, but it was just a drop in the ocean of the amazing songs of the 80's.
@@Starlesslight except her version was released in 1990🤦
I am 54 male and still cry everytime I hear this, it might be Prince song but Sinead owns it. The rawness the emotion cannot be duplicated ✌️❤️
Make sure to listen to "Madinka" by her. Great song.. And obviously "troy". Personally think both songs are better than this one
I have to agree I was in love with her omg this song brings back good vibes
Prince wrote the song. Sinead did a decent version but St. Paul Peterson who originally sings it on The Family album “owns it.”
That's your opinion, but like so many on here no one can duplicate the emotion that Sinead delivers her soul and hurt is pretty much shown in the clip
Sinead's keening takes this song to its full potential
A voice that touched millions of hearts is now silent. Rest in peace, queen 💔
Love Sinead!
I'm still not over it. I feel her absence everyday.
This is one of the top ten best covers of all time in my book. The song is hers ever after. She completely owns it.
She made the song hers but she doesn't own it it belongs to Prince that's not get crazy now let's not get crazy
@@jondishmonmusicandstuff2753 Obviously, I did not mean she has legal ownership of the song. I meant it’s “hers” in a metaphorical sense.
Listen to Chris Cornell doing this live on a radio station is the best version to me
I love this cover ... but I still prefer Prince's version with Rosie Gaines.
She totally kill it. But to be honest, I feel like Chris Cornell's version is just as good if not better. ua-cam.com/video/IuUDRU9-HRk/v-deo.html
That is exactly what music should do: Move us. Make us feel. 💜💜
Her version is the best, hands down. Her emotion during the song is what sets it apart from the others who sing it. If you watch closely towards the end, you'll see a tear roll down her cheek and gives the audience a feeling of what she wants you to feel.
I dunno...Chris Cornell doing it unplugged is something else all together...
I don't want to agree with you, but I have no choice but to agree with you. She took the song to a level that the original simply can't match. It's not like Me'lisa Morgan covering "Do Me Baby" or Chaka covering "I Feel for You," this was on a different level.

Prince wrote so many amazing Songs... and this interpretation from Sinead was just so awesome - I can still listen to it and break out in tears.
I only tear up when watching not listening. Still beautiful but seeing her go through 100 emotions on the same face is so moving.
Prince was amazing
Manic Monday 🎼
@@benpotaka5893 Yeah right... from The Bangles - he wrote this Song unter one of his pseudonym/pen name „Christopher“. 👍
prince was highly underrated and misunderstood. people saw him as just prince the pop star and sex symbol but nobody really saw the absolute brilliance of the artist. his song writing is on another planet and also a very underrated guitarist.
one of the greatest song performance ever .god bless her.
Hits you like a dagger. Good way to describe this song. I cry each and every time I view it. The world lost such a deep thinker.
rest in peace Sinead 😢😢😢nothing will compare to you
She is in hell now with her prophet mohammed
To me, this is the signature version of this song. Sinead did another remarkable performance when she performed the song "Mother" with Pink Floyd in Berlin.
Poor Sinead only seems whole and centered when she's performing.
Angela, thank you for another lovely reaction, you're honest and articulate, and greatly appreciated and respected. 😇🤓🌹🕊️
I so agree about Mother....just an amazing version!!!!!
Now she been through another traumatizing event her son committed suicide.
@@deeznuts3145 Wow, that's heartbreaking news, I didn't know that. I hope she finds a way to recover from that. 😇✌️🕊️
Sinead must have been difficult like a pure Irish warrior. I can't fathom her not getting the help she needed. The world failed her.
She emoted so much with her eyes and of course her voice, and focusing on her face was perfect!
I read that Sinead's mother had died shortly before she recorded this song and that's what she thought about to get so much emotion in her voice and expression.
True.
I believe she and her mother had had a pretty tumultuous relationship, and we're just starting to get back together, when her mother was killed in a car accident. It's when she starts to sing about the flowers that her mother planted that you can see her truly tear up. Prince wrote this song, but it belongs to Sinead ❤️
"The primary cause of the world's problems is child abuse".
- Sinead O'Connor❤
This is not only one of the best songs of the 90's but one of the best songs of all time. Period. The video is also absolutely beautiful. This song was number one for five weeks in the spring of 1990. I didn't even know this was a cover song. Thank you Angela for your heartfelt reaction.
Sinead's vocal range is extraordinary, she shaved her hair, because record companies at the time were only interested in "bubble gum" songs sung by mime singers. Great reaction Angela
That’s not accurate. She has talked about her hair in interviews and said it has to do with her mother
@1974dormouse that's not why either. It's because the record companies wanted to make her a sex symbol and the sexual harassment that was very prevalent in the music industry.
ua-cam.com/video/bgFftp-5WIk/v-deo.html
You feel the emotion she's putting into the song. Beautiful voice
Her voice is ethereal. Another great reaction.
Another magical song written by Prince performed by a controversial performer whose talent can never by denied. We all feel like you. We've all felt that.
She was so beautiful, her eyes are gorgeous.
It's truly a spectacular heartbreaking performance and a perfect video. I of course prefer Sinead's version. It's like she was recording her life and her deepest anguish. I always love your reactions.
one of the greatest performances of all tine
Sinead made this a hit ! Her voice fantastic .Prince wrote this song and most people thought she wrote it because she made it her song. Thank you Angela!
I was 7 when this came out, and I remember being utterly entranced with this video. I'm 41 years old now and I still go to another realm when this is on.
Rest in Peace sweet Sinead. This song is timeless, Sinead was always raw and true. She was loved by many and will be missed forever.
I just listened to the original, and it doesn't compare at all to this heartbreaking, profoundly emotionally wounding version that Sinead sings! There are really no words to describe or convey her version!
What a fabulous, tender reaction! Just wonderful, Angela. Thank you for reacting to such an impactful, heartbreaking song! Sinead is amazing... and so are you!
She was ahead of her time , her raw yet beautiful voice taking the song to a whole nother level. Thank you
If you don't feel something when Sinead starts crying, well then your heart is stone cold.
Sinead said in one of her interviews that she was thinking of her mom she lost when that tear happened. It wasn’t planned, that’s how deep she travels within the song. ❤
when she made the vid, her mother had died 2 weeks before and it just made her cry when she was singing, and they left it in.
I have liked this song since it came out, she sang it so beautifully
I always felt this is the absolute best version of this song. The raw emotion she is singing with sets this song apart from other versions. The original actually sucks in my opinion.
In my opinion....this cover is without a doubt the best version of this song
Unadorned honesty, direct communication. Truth is beauty.
Such a simple video, such a simple song; so impossibly powerful and fragile at the same time. Sinead brought it.
“It’s been so lonely without you here. like a bird without a song” best lyrics in a song.
How about to be a rock and not roll
This is the reaction we look for I tear up every time I hear it
It was a privilege to start playing guitar listening to these and many others from the time. Too top.
Her mother had just died when she recorded this video. Amazing performance.
not that good
@@RoyBatty555 lmao
Really??
@@marionetaklemcba really. Not as good as the actual writer of this song.
I’ll be honest with you, I knew this song when it was released. I was a tween/teen at the time. My older sister loved Sinead, so I heard a lot of her stuff back then. And I’ve never heard the original. As far as I’m concerned, Sinead is the original. In light of her very recent passing, I came across your video, and I want to thank you for letting it play all the way through and not interrupting it with comments. This video does the same to me, I always end up tearing up/crying by the end because Sinead is so very raw and real as an artist that it’s tough not to feel it.
It definitely takes on a whole new perspective when imagining the heaviness and deep despair that she felt with the tragic loss of her son last year. I pray that Sinead is finally lifted of her heartache and pain wherever she is today.
Thank you again for this video. You did such a respectful and beautiful job with this.
RIP to the Irish protest goddess, Sinead. 🇮🇪🕊💔
✊🏽🇺🇸
Excellent review, by the way.
No one sings this song like Sinead, such a beautiful soul who has a lot of pain going on in her real life. Sorry to see how much it upset you, nothing wrong with being a sensitive soul. Thank you!
Chris Cornell did. ua-cam.com/video/IuUDRU9-HRk/v-deo.html
Have you heard Chris Cornell's version. Beautiful!
There isn’t a reaction channel on UA-cam more sincere and honest than this one.
The fact she cried was about her mother who she was abused by for years and yet she loved her forever. This was shot by the director in one go and this video was the most real video by any artist ever.
Not only does her outstanding voice cause us emotion. The haunting keyboard pads and the drums reverberate... all that is pure loneliness. It's a masterpiece as a record at all.
Sinead, every time!
SOOOO Beautiful...She was and oh Her singing of this....my All time Top 10 video!!!!
Absolutely beautiful reaction 💕💕💕🙋🏻♂️ 🎤🎶👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽😃

Beautiful reaction to a beautiful girl singing a beautiful song.
Unquestionably among the greatest performances recorded on film in popular music.
Of course we've watched the video, it was all over the place when it came out. It's captivating. It's a heartfelt performance. Above all, it's Forlorn. It puts a whole right in the middle of your soul. I've never heard the original recording, I've heard Prince do it, but Sinead's cover, I simply can't imagine it anything being better than this.
Great reaction. I have never heard anyone else sing this and I don't want to. This performance was absolutely perfect. No one else could beat this.
I love both- as a HUGE Prince fan, I can't help but think how awesome he was and how he liked to share his magic. Another gem he allowed out was "When You Were Mine". Cyndi Lauper and his version are both awesome.
Music/vocals/lyrics should bring the listener to the heights of joy, and to your knees with pain. Art has that ability and this song and performer IS art at its finest. It brings tears to me too. RIP Sinead. Godspeed ❤
I grew up with this song, still everytime I hear it I get teary eyed
I've never heard the original version, but I can't imagine it even comes close to this one. This is Sinead's signature song, and it's all her own.
The Family's version is emotionless pop rock ballad male vocalist average at best for the time. Unlike this.
i leave in montreal ,just turn 61 yesterday and this freaking emotional song got me again even after hearing for the first almost 40 years ago. POWERFULL voice POWERFULL video !!!!!
She owns this song.
Our sister Sinead has suffered so many tragedies. She lost her 17-year-old son to suicide earlier this year. Let's keep our sister in our prayers, or send her good vibes if prayer isn't your thing. 💜
Thank you. Appreciate it , but her son Shaney is ok.
We do not belong to this world. Just came here to help. He was done pretty quick, and he left. I am still here to finish the work as we pleased.
She’s not (y)our sister. Stop with the silly language.

@@normie2716 You are far too kind. @Donald, shut the hell up
No contest... Sinead's version is sublime.
Beautiful song - Beautiful reaction 💖
She was the perfect person for this song.
This may be the best 'cover' of anything ever!
I loved your reaction to the song, very respectful to the music and the artist. Rest in peace, Sinéad
Prince wrote this song about a lost love, but Sínéad sang this about Mother hunger.
Sinéad's mother was emotionally disturbed and abused Sínéad but Sínéad always longed for her mother's approval and acceptance.
Sadly it never came but Sínéad was an amazing mother to her own 4 children.
Hi, her Dad left when she was young, Mum had mental health issues, she went to an Irish workhouse at 14 years old, not pleasant places. The tears are her wanting a loving and missing a normal Mum as a child. Hence the catholic imagery when she is not on screen in the video. "all the flowers died and withered away when you left Mother" is when she starts crying...
WOW..what a beautiful reaction..♥
I think you will enjoy listening to Hazel O'Connor singing " Will You " from the 1981 film "Breaking Glass". A great song with a great sax solo.
Nice and cute reaction. This is really a beautiful song. I like it so much.
Beautiful reaction!❤
This is a masterful performance…. The purity of tone, the way she cracks the high notes… and the delivery of her breath…. PERFECT
She totally owned this song.
Pure voice , pure heart❤
I love this, and nothing compares to you. Thank you Mate!
Thanks go out to both Sinead and Prince. Wondrous work.
So, so good. her singing is just so earnest and emotional.
Welcome to our world. Some of us have listened to and loved this song for 32 years 🙂
Hi Angela, As soon as I saw you were going to react to this I knew the tissues were going to be needed! Beautiful song, sung Beautifully and Beautiful reaction Take Care X
Your reaction made me cry harder .
Yes I had a heartbreak back in 89/90 ..played this song over n over ..still touches me today ! And yes as Daniel said watch the "MOTHER" song she performed with Floyd..another drenching outstanding performance !!
The line that gets me every time is about the flowers in the back yard dying when you went away.
If you're still in need of a good cry, find Beeswing by Richard Thompson.
Hauntingly beautiful, and I think I fell in love with her back then. Cry every time.
So Sineads mother died in a car crash when Sinead was 18,the verse about the flowers dying reminded her of her mother which is why she got so emotional.
She makes you feel it
I've been binging on reactions to this song after her sad passing, and your reaction is my favorite. This song came out in my senior year of high school, and it moved me. I see it moved you, too.
I feel sure so many people tear up during this song. Certainly many reactors have. And, yes, Sinead’s tears were real. Because it was during the filming of this video, that one particular line suddenly hit her hard, for her own personal reasons. And that resulted in real tears.
She definitely did a cover of this song and actually I think it became her song and I appreciate it more now than when it was released
You are so genuine and real. You are truly a beautiful soul. I'm a huge Prince fan, but Sinead OWNS this song...Nothing Compares to her version. It isn't even close. Please keep these coming! I LOVE your videos. 🙂
Brilliant, a legend..
Absolutely beautiful song. And perfect reaction. ;) The fella who captures your heart will be a very luck man.
I've been with the same woman for almost 50 years and this performance gets me too she's awesome.
I've always admired how you wear your love and emotions on your sleeve. Don't change!
Sinead was special. No one is like her. She was 20 years old when she came out with Mandinka. Hit everyone with the power. No make-up, no hair,no T&A. 100% dignity.
I am 52 years old, a man with a beard. I shed tears every time I listen to this song.
This song was a huge part of my life in 1990, a relationship that could never be... Brings all the memories roaring back. So very true that Nothing compares to him, ever.
A genius musical idea, arranged and presented in a genius way, and performed by a genius talent.
And it's a timeless thing. More than 20 years later, and we're still thunderstruck by it.
Will never forget the first time I saw this video .... was in a bar outside Detroit, the video appeared on a large projector screen and the entire place became dead silent. Chills. Great reaction!
Of all the reactions to this song I've seen, yours is one of the best I've ever heard. Thank you
She actually starts crying during the part about the flowers dying.. you can see real tears coming down... very powerful. Great reaction.
Played this song after having to leave my love in Buenos Aires. Made me just lose it. Was a wreck. Sobbed for 2 mos. till I picked her up at JFK in NY. I'll never forget how I felt such a connection to a love song. Great reaction!
I remember the very first time I ever heard this. It was on college radio (O'Connor was an indie sweetheart) and a friend who was a Prince connoisseur called it immediately. "This is a Prince song, done by a band called The Family". Oh, I thought, another one of those tunes not good enough for him, so he tosses it away to other "groups". But no, this was Sinead, and what I heard was beautiful.
Prince released a live version of this featuring a vocalist named Rosie Gaines, and that gives you an idea of what he had envisioned for the song. Him being Prince makes the song sound like him, but this will forever be known as a Sinead O'Conner song. Just like "My Way" is a Sinatra song, regardless of who wrote it.
