Her version is the best, hands down. Her emotion during the song is what sets it apart from the others who sing it. If you watch closely towards the end, you'll see a tear roll down her cheek and gives the audience a feeling of what she wants you to feel.
I don't want to agree with you, but I have no choice but to agree with you. She took the song to a level that the original simply can't match. It's not like Me'lisa Morgan covering "Do Me Baby" or Chaka covering "I Feel for You," this was on a different level.

I was 7 when this came out, and I remember being utterly entranced with this video. I'm 41 years old now and I still go to another realm when this is on.

I believe she and her mother had had a pretty tumultuous relationship, and we're just starting to get back together, when her mother was killed in a car accident.
