Thank you so much for a very clear and easy video to follow. I just replaced both my headlamp assemblies in less than 10 minutes time, and indeed all that was needed was a 7mm driver, a large flat head screwdriver and some WD40. Great job, thanks again!
Thanks so much for this video! Even though I'm a classic chick that knows nothing of cars I feel confident enough to do this myself (I have the same jeep & year)...provided I have my iPad next to me the entire time displaying your detailed video! - East NY, Brooklyn! :-)
This is literally making me want to keep a Jeep thinking there is someone considerate enough to make a video like this. I have had issues with now two window regulators as of recent. Thank you much,
UA-cam may be the best tool we have to taking on ANY repair task the first time. Sometimes best to review a couple different videos because they vary in quality. In this case no need ! Excellent !
@xXEDWIINXx The headlight restore is a temporary fix. It will work for 6-8 months then the cloudyness will come back. What happenes is the plastic in the lens itself degrades over time and causes them to turn cloudy or yellow.
You guys are the best !! The purchase of my headlights was extremely easy and fast and this video is a real bonus. You should offer the video during the purchase.
I really like all your videos. I think you give an easy, straight forward approach to fixing things on your vehicle without a lot of technical jargon we can't understand. I have used several of your videos to help with repairs on my vehicle. Thanks for the cool vids.
Randy, I can’t thank you enough for this video, now I don’t have to give up driving at night. I replaced my headlights today and I kept thinking “It can’t be this easy.” But it was, and they didn’t fall out when I slammed the hood shut. If not for your video I wouldn’t have dared to pull really hard on the old headlights to get them out, because I wouldn’t have known those studs were holding them in. I didn’t realize how much light the old frosted lenses were cutting out.
@spaberlejr 1. Probably your jeep dealer is the best place to get the clip. 2. Youdo not have to use the new harness just unplug it from the light and plug your original harness in to the new light.
Always enjoy your vids...Used this to replace a bulb and finally ordered the whole lights to freshen the look and improve night driving. Kid is getting the car. want her to be safe.
If I had known... I paid 160 for each headlight!!! And if that wasn't bad enough, They look like the 02 model and my jeep is 04! I will definitely look at your webpage next time I purchase something for my cars.
@msthanku1 HI, We currently do not have a repair video that shows you how to do this on a 1996 Jeep Sport. However you should be able to access the bolts by lifting up the tailgate and removing the bolts that hold the taillight in place. There should be four of them, one at the top one at the bottom and two on the sides. Hope this helps you out.
I ordered both headlights online for $89.25, including s&h. After watching your video, I went outside with the tools you mentioned and did both sides in less than 25 minutes. One of the smaller bulbs was very stubborn to pull out on the 2nd headlight. I would say 10 minutes or less per light should do it. Very pleased with the aesthetics of our jeep now. Before this, my wife said she did NOT want the jeep facing the street. LOL Honey, you can proudly park it facing the street now and we can see at night, too!
+Yankeez Fan Thank you for the positive feedback. We really appreciate it! If you have a minute, drop us a review on our Facebook page to let other people know about your experience with us. Here's a link: facebook.com/1AAuto/reviews/
Thanks so much for this post!! I had been trying to remove the headlight assembly. for about an hour CAREFULLY thinking I might break something, wondering what was holding the assembly in place. After watching this video I was able to change out both headlights in about 10 minutes with no problems. thanks again sir.
Thank you for making this video. It was super helpful and gave more information that what I received reading the directions, which were to take out the long srew and then pull out the headlight to replace the bulbs. That thing did not want to budge and I was afraid I'd break a plastic part. I also appreciated that you gave info. on how to put it back it. I'll be going to your site in the future for any assistance. Thanks again.
This is the process I went through to change bulbs. this is a great refresher because I now have to replace an assembly myself and want to make sure I do it right. thank you for making this video.
I finally got the bolt out ! I just pulled it up as far as it would go and wiggled the cr@p out of it. May have been a bit bent at the bottom as the clearances are pretty tight for the holes. Followed your instructions and I am back to street legal. You really do need to put some weight into it to get the clips unattached and reattached. Thanks for the great video !
No problem at all. Thanks for stopping by and checking us out. We carry a ton of repair parts for the 99-04 Jeep Grand Cherokee on our website 1aauto.com
Thank you for the help here. Mine were so locked in I was stumped. I have used a few of your videos, thanks very much for taking the time. You have always been spot on!

Hi, thank you so much for the video. Being the typical girl that doesn't work on cars, I did it! I know what site to come back to the next time I need some instructions on my car. Keep up the great work!
The 03-04 headlights are clear aswell, but the main lamps have some black paint on the sides instead of chrome like the limited. I saw a tutorial on how to paint the 99-02 so you can make your jeep look like the 03 model.
Thanks...i should have looked this up earlier because I spent over an hour replacing the passenger side lamps by removing the battery, tray, and fuse block to get my hand in there. I was cussing the whole time and my wrist still hurts. Now i know. Great info, thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge.
@connormkoren We carry the direct replacement lights for your Jeep Grand Cherokee on our website 1aauto.com They manufacturer of the aftermarket LED lights should inform you of any wiring upgrades that might need to be done to install their product.
Thank You 1A Auto Parts!! this sure helped, my headlights were stuck bad in the clips. This was helpful so I knew I was going about this project in the right direction
Those lenses are fused to the headlight making them very difficult to separate, unless you heat them up. We carry the ones that you're describing on our website with free shipping. It would save you a ton of time. Here's the part number to our 03 Jeep Grand Cherokee headlight kit with dark housing and clear lower turn signals. Part Number: 1ALHP00217 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
Did this job today -- two problems 1. Used a bit too much force to wiggle the furst head lam free and snapped 1 of the three little plastic connectors where the studs "plug" into. Can I buy these somewhere ? 2. The Head lamp replacements came with all new wiring and bulbs but I could not get to the harness connector to replace the old wiring harness set up. Is there a procedure on how to get to that connector ? I tried taking off the grill w/o success. Thanks again for this video...
I have a 2003 GC and have after market lights. I want to replace the halo's in them due to burnout. IDK how to open the light itself. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
@msthanku1 HI here's a link to the headlights that we carry for your 96 Jeep Cherokee Sport on our website 1aauto.com ;We currently do not carry the bumper piece that you were looking for. 1aauto.com/1A/HeadLights/Jeep/Cherokee/-/-/1996
First, thank you for your video. The walk through was spot on for proper replacement. Unfortunately for me, I bought headlamps that we're supposed to fit my vehicle, and they do, bust they are not very well precision cut, and are poorly made. I got them in, and they work, but I am worried about them. If I buy from you, can I expect the same thing?
You guys are great! I have this car and want to change my headlights. It would be great to provide a link directly to the product that you are installing on YOUR site, so I can order it now. If I have to research it, I'm more inclined to to with the cheapest price. However, I would rather reward your GREAT video and help by buying from you. PLEASE link the part\s so people can buy from you. You deserve it. BTW, I am looking to purchase the headlights in the video for my car. Thank you.
Will LED Jeep lights work if I install them on my 2000 Jeep GC, or do I have to upgrade any parts for it to work? I'm just worried they will be to powerful for the stock Jeep lighting system. Please, let me know! Thanks!
They are a fused lens, they're not made to take apart. We carry new headlight kits for your 99-04 Jeep Grand Cherokee on our website with free shipping it for need a new pair. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
Hi can you show how to replace the bulbs in a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee? Sometimes the headlight assembly kit is fine, but you just want to change the bulbs. Both high and low beams. Thanks!
You made it seem so easy so I gave it a try and purchased both my headlights with at a great price. It was so simple just as you explained and my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee looks great. Thanks!
Thanks for checking us out. We carry these headlights on our website with FREE SHIPPING in the lower 48 states. Here's a link to them, if anyone else would like to tackle this job. www.1aauto.com/1A/HeadLights/Jeep/GrandCherokee/1ALHP00029?VIdeoReply&VideoReply&ATony
Highly recommend some new headlights for your WJ. I have an 01 Limited and the new headlights really helped to clean up the front and make it look new again. People are consistently surprised when I tell them my Jeep is ten years old.
Awesome - worked perfectly. Now that I've done 2, I could do a dozen in the same time - but two points: 1) You might want to see if you can get those plastic clips in advance. Mine would barely move and they broke (somewhat) in the process of prying them off - at first they wouldn't budge, and even then, it was a dog. (the posts on the headlights were all rusted out) 2) before giving the final "shove", make sure all the bulbs are working - don't want to start all over.
If it's no longer holding the headlight in place, you should be able to just remove the headlight. You might be able to get a new bolt from the dealer. If your headlights need to be replaced, we carry them for your 99-04 Jeep Grand Cherokee on our website 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
I was able to remove the bolt as shown in the beginning of the video. A half hour later, I am still unable to pull the headlight assembly. It seems to be stuck or otherwise fastened inside. I have used a screwdriver, a crow bar and brute force. Nothing.. I guess the video needs to address what to do if the assembly will not pull out. Unfortunately that is the problem with so many how-to videos. They do not explain what to do when something does not go as planned. And as a novice, that is probably the most important information of all. Off to the dealer to do the work..
If you could somehow get some WD 40 or Power Lube spray with a straw onto the plastic spring clips it might make the light pull out somewhat easier (look all around the back of the headlight bucket into the recesses with a powerful flashlight trying to see the back of the plastic clips - I think they are lighter color than the surroundings
@dwarttisproctor Thank you for checking out our videos. We carry a great deal of replacement parts for your Jeep Grand Cherokee on our website 1aauto.com we offer free shipping too.
thanx for the video. but im looking for one for the backlight. im having problem with it. ive done everything to it. I think its the wires. what do i do?
OK I just watched this video because I just recieved my new head lamps. They look fantastic!! One question I see that all the bulbs nad harness is already on the new lights...so I assume I just unplug the old harness and plug new one in and I am good to go? Thanks Scott
+Scott James We would reccomend swapping over the bulbs from your original lights. The bulbs that came in your new lights might just be test bulbs and they might not last very long. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 866-403-3393
Wow, seeing videos like this makes me glad I'm able to work on my own car. Glad that jeep does not have a painted bumper since you are basically using it as a workbench and would invariably scratch it all up as well as the headlight face (if it were new).
+Tim Hedderly Thanks for watching and the feedback. If any of our viewers needs to make this repair, we carry the auto repair part shown in this video on our website. Here is a link to them www.1aauto.com/1A/HeadLights/Jeep/GrandCherokee/1ALHP00029?UA-cam&CTA+Comment&PPvAHUU
You may want to check the grounds, fuse and bulb. Also check the wire to the socket to see if there's power going to it, if there is then check the socket too. Hope this helps you out. Have a great day. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
I recently replaced my 2004 Jeep Laredo lights with your limited headlights for a cleaner brighter look. I know how to adjust them up and down. My question is can they be adjusted left or right? They look so good my friend thought I had a new Jeep. BTW thanks for the FAST delivery.
HI, They do not adjust from left to right, they are the same set-up as the OE Jeep Grand Cherokee headlights. Thank you for your order. Have a great day! 866-403-3393
Kick ass man! I was just out in the dark trying to replace a light bulb on drivers side. Flash light and snowy Michigan night was not helping. Guess I just wasn't pulling hard enough. Cheers!
1A Auto Parts I have broken 2 of those plastic clips changing my headlights out. Would you happen to know where I can get my hands on replacement ones? Thanks!
whats that 7mm bolt thread into? im starting with a new header panel and new headlights. i need new clips for the headlights but i also seem to be missing whatever those 7mm bolts thread into.
if you are having trouble getting the H & L beam bulbs into the socket, loosen the 3 small screws circling the socket 1/3 to 1/2 turn, they will slide in like melted butter, then gently retighten. If you touch the bulbs, clean them with a clean paper towel
I had to loosen the three Philips Screws on each of the two main Lamps to get them to twist out. I then tightened them after installing the Lamps on the new Headlight.
my headlight assembly came with the new bubls, new wires, but i dont know how to get to main plug socket to unplug it. it look like you have to remove the grill to get to it. do you know how to do it? thanks.
no prob. i got good taillights recently so i didnt need to do those. but those dern headlights were a problem gonna get some new ones. too hazy there the original's

Great video!! I had a question I'm trying to replace mine but I need the dimensions of the lights.. how do I get those? I get 3 different ones when I look online so I wanna get them myself to be sure. Just don't know how! Thank you in advance!!
+Annabelle Carrillo Hello, All of the headlights for Grand Cherokees from model year 1999 to 2004 are the same size and shape. Dimensions wouldn't be required for these lights. Thanks! 1AAuto.com

Did this job today -- two problems
1. Used a bit too much force to wiggle the furst head lam free and snapped 1 of the three little plastic connectors where the studs "plug" into. Can I buy these somewhere ?

Thanks just got through performing my own replacement but I was replacing turning lights. Right had to pull very hard but got it off.
Cheers!

now if you will excuse me, i have a headlight to replace!
1A Auto Parts I have broken 2 of those plastic clips changing my headlights out. Would you happen to know where I can get my hands on replacement ones? Thanks!
HI Brock, You should be able to get some at the dealer. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
whats that 7mm bolt thread into? im starting with a new header panel and new headlights. i need new clips for the headlights but i also seem to be missing whatever those 7mm bolts thread into.
if you are having trouble getting the H & L beam bulbs into the socket, loosen the 3 small screws circling the socket 1/3 to 1/2 turn, they will slide in like melted butter, then gently retighten. If you touch the bulbs, clean them with a clean paper towel
Thanks. I have the exact same jeep and really help me out watching this video.
The right side is a little more difficult with the battery. Any help for that?
Curious.... Does one have to "re-aim" the headlight after repalcement?
Yes.

Thanks! 1AAuto.com
