- Hello everyone and welcome to another video. I mentioned in my previous videos that I really liked my first MacBook which was a mid-2013 model, and I recently had the chance to reunite with it... well, a similar one. But how usable is it in 2024? And how do we install macOS Sonoma on it?

If you are interested in running Windows on a MacBook from this era, I made a video about running Windows 10 on a 2015 MacBook Air. Check it out :)

The 2015 MB line is the toyota tacoma of computing. Still kickin' after all these years of mileage. I use mine for music production.
Thank you for this video! my 11'' macbook air 2015 is still up and running, it still feels fast and responsive and up to most daily tasks. It can handle multitasking fairly well, too. They are definitely well built and long lasting.
I also still have 2015 macbook air 13" and currently still using with my guitar cover editing videos
I have the 11inch i7 8gb 500gb model. My brother didn't take care of it when I gave it to him in 2019, and I JUST now replaced the battery for the first time. Man let me tell you its on par, it still runs smoothly!
thanks👍👍
❤❤❤❤ love it
i'm still using mac air 2015 13" 8/512 and in runs pretty awesome. Just do some regular cleaning yearly and thats it
what do you clean exactly? and have you replaced the battery since you bought it?
Hey, I still use early 2015 pro. And actually used it since 2015. Was wise enough that I bought it at full spec. I’ve considered replacing it with M chip line up but I’m in love with the thing too much.
It can handle Lightweight coding without Lag and Cpu Throthling?
Just sold my early MacBook Air early 2015, 8 gb Ram and got the new fully loaded M3! After 8 years, although it had served me well, it felt like every time I turn it on, it could be the last. It would overheat while doing only 1 simple task (1 app) and cpu would be 80% usage, fans turning at max speed ect. That, coupled with delays in response and freezing led me to replace it. Maybe I could have fixed it but it had a good run and love the new model!
I recently also upgraded my MBA 11inch Early 2015 with 8GB RAM to Sonoma and also experienced the missing icons in the system settings, which will be resolved automatically after using it for a few hours. Also I had a super slow Spotlight. Spotlight even started indexing on every reboot. Killing and reenabling Spotlight via Terminal fixed that issue once and for all.
Actually surprised about the 4GB working so well. Feeling not as bad not having thrown 200 quid more into their throats for more RAM!
Still using my macbook air 2017 which is just 0.2Ghz faster than the 2015 version but I still love it like the day I bought it and I still use it for work
is it really faster only 0.2mhz
@@duynguyenMODDERFIFAIOS I mean 0.2ghz or 200mhz I corrected it 👍
@@Somebodythatoverthinks so nothing change just only 0.2ghz 😭😭😭
Eu tenho um Air de 2013(i7 + 8GB RAM) e me atende perfeitamente até hoje, uso para trabalhar.
Chrome(20 abas) + Opera(10 abas) + WhatsApp + Google Drive + OneDrive
Thanks for the video! I am trying to find the same window at 3:24 mark of your video...where can I find that? When I click on my battery in Systems Preferences i don't see any information like that.
Thank you! It’s an app called CoconutBattery!
I have also question about this laptop that graphics design skill can be suitable for this laptop or not please reply soon
77USD is totally fine. In Germany unfortunately, these 2017 and 2015 MBA still sells for 200€... 😅
I love mine sooo much i completely restored it new screen top case battery cpu repaste love my baby 😊
That's awesome! Thanks for your comment!
Where did you get it?
Interesting as I m having the same macbook…since u have succeeded to upgrade to sonoma…possible to share the sonoma insataller? I failed to do it twice…..really helpful if u can assist….
Hi, thank you for watching! I just followed the OpenCore Legacy Patcher guide.
What ssd names can you recommend to work without a flows with MacBook Air using adapter ?
Still using my 2015 MacBook Pro.
will be buying one for 280$ very soon
@@rtx_____did you end up buying it? i’m thinking of getting one for $300
got the 2014 15" macbook pro for 350$. 256ssd 16ram no dGPU. this thing is fast. I only use it to study, so pdfs powerpoint lectures vlc videos are the main thing I use it for. It is dead silent, macOS is much smoother than windows and more pleasant to use. The display is very sharp and bright enough for 95% of lighting conditions. All in all, one of the best purchases i did. Highly recommended if u have a similar use case.@@TyDixon
Why do people keep mentioning what year we are in,
Please is the MacBook Air 2015 still decent for writing code on Vscode?
If you are looking for these, get the 2013/2015 i7 - they have a higher boost clock and are more responsive. And get 8gb if you want OC/Sonoma.
I use one of these as my daily driver in my backpack 👍🏼- Remember to open and repaste CPU heatsink and clean heatsink fins - heat transfer really suffer after 10 years.
Do you have a tutorial with the opencore how to ipdate the macbook2015 with the new OS?
I can make a video about it but honestly you’re better off with the latest supported version!
I bought 2015 Macbook Pro 15 inch last June because I can install old Windows software. I am an INTEL person
can you install old windows 7 on it without key? i love windows 7
this man has money , even 10 dollars has serious value to him. (me too )
I was planning to buy the macbook air a1465 8gb ram/128gb.
i wanna pickup 2015 macbook air or 2015 13 inch macbook pro for Parsec client. Sorry for the dumb question, which is more heavier? Macbook air or 2015 13 inch macbook pro? I never used mac os before so this kind of laptop kinda tempting to me. And also both are really cheap right now so yeah.
Pro is heaver!
hey! it's still 2023 in some countries! be considerable!!!!! ;)
It's 2023 where I am as well :) the video came out a day earlier than planned haha
you can use this to edit feature length blockbuster movies LOL
I have a 2015 8 GB MBA alongside a 2020 M1 8 GB MBA and a 16-inch 64 GB M3 Max. Like the man said, the 2015 MBA is hard to go back to after an M1. Compared to other Intels, it's alright but the screen is not up to par anymore,. It still plays Street fighter good, but anything not in memory or cache takes 2-3 extra steps every time than what you're used to. It's good if you can't afford M1 but they are probably better Intel MacBook deals than this. The man forgot to mention the Apple logo also glows, so there's that lol.
for some reason i cant get anything beyond high sierra
Install Windows to it, and it's super fast, chrome opens in just less than a second and even with 20-25 tabs open it's still smooth. It's just MAC OS is so heavy for this old guy.
I'll give this a try!
does it support new pages upload versión and installing external Font from internet? does it sincronice with iCloud as 2020 MacBook Pro does? (Im a disegner and formaste book student in college and im looking for a cheap MacBook Air nowdays to write, Watch videos, see some tv shows online and that stuff), will this one work for me?
Hi! Yes, it does all the things you mentioned. It might work for you, although it's definitely slower than modern MacBooks!
Yes, I have Monterey os on my mac air 2015 and it synchronizes icloud drive perfectly for documents and notes, it’s still very usable
I have this MacBook Laptop. But its Ram is 4 gb ...How can i increase its ram to 8 gb thats the problem if you have any solution then kindly guide me... please reply soon...
Hi! Wondering if anyone can help - I still have my trusty early 2015 MacBook Air, which works fine with the exception of websites not displaying properly. Is this due to the fact that I cannot download the latest software? Will the open core legacy patcher fix this? I am not a computer expert and wondering if anyone can help so that I can load websites etc properly. Thanks!
Hi! I think you would be better off reinstalling whichever version is officially supported on your Mac!
Why did you buy a new charger instead of a Magsafe 2 to USB-C adapter or cable for 30% of the cost? It's much cheaper and more convenient.
Great question, and thank you for watching! I looked at them and even considered getting one, but I wasn’t sure if they would actually work. I would much prefer a USB-C to MagSafe 2 cable because I have a bunch of USB-C chargers lying around.
@@WhatNowTech In my experience for 4 years with both Magsafe 1 & 2, they work fine. I bought the cheapest I could find online. I have encountered only one charger, where charging turned off sometimes if the load varied a lot - but that was an old charger, not adhering to modern standards.
Yes, typing this comment on my Early 2015 Macbook Air.
I will replace not earlier than 2025
I'm getting a similar 2015 MacBook air with a bit of a tweaked up specs that comes with 8 gigs of RAM, i5, 500 GB SSD at around $250 , should I get it? or the person is looting me?
not a bad price
Hey. Please tell me you got it
My battery lasts for 1 hour :)
400$ in Syria
Your RAM story is not "true" and as that simple as you make it. You can actually see you have 700mb of swap usage (SSD), which indicates that you are running out of RAM. It will never reach the 4gb because it needs some free space all the time. If you check an 8gb model and load the exact same programs, you'll see usage of way over 4gb (6-7 gb) and 0 swap usage. The operating system will chose to keep more stuff resident in RAM and keep data cached instead of flushing it out. That's how the OS optimizes the RAM usage AND the 8gb machine WILL run considerably faster on a current OS because of this. Just to give you an example. I'm writing this I'm on a 32gb M1 MBP running Sonoma with only Google Chrome open (one tab). My RAM usage is 13,2 gb + 11gb of cached data.
Thank you for your response! (and watching the video) You're 100% percent right, my main point was that you're mainly bottlenecked by the CPU as opposed to RAM. Newer MacBooks with 8 gigabytes of RAM also take advantage of the swap memory but it's not "as big" of a deal because the SSD is fast enough.
@@WhatNowTechYes even when data is resident in memory, you’ll feel the age of these cpus and there is no more you can do about the speed :) But still go for 8gb for Sonoma - the OS was never made to support 4gb machines. You’ll also see on the used market, that 4gb MB airs are only roughly half price of the 8gb versions, because of this. That’s why you got yours so cheap :) I have a lot of old Macs I refurbish myself and I always experience slower startup and general usage on 4gb macs if running Big Sur or newer.
@@OPM_Vikingdo you think I’d be able to run a game like fm24 on a MacBook Air 2015?
@@OliverTaylor-hk2ry You should be able to. SEGA support list requirements for FM24 as: MacOS BigSur, Intel Core M, 4gb ram, Intel HD 5000/Metal 1. So Airs from 2013+ should fit the bill. Wether it's a good experience or not I don't know.
@@OliverTaylor-hk2rydo you run it the game? I would like to know.
Everything was fine until the ram is fine comment
Thank you for watching, and for your comment! I guess I should have been more clear. 4GB RAM is obviously not enough in 2024 and it's obviously not great that it's not upgradeable. But this MacBook is mainly bottlenecked by the CPU anyways.
I have also question about this laptop that graphics design skill can be suitable for this laptop or not please reply soon
