honestly the 2015 mac air is still good for youtube and web browsing. Use mine at the cafe and take it when I travel. if it breaks or gets stolen I'm out $2-3 hundred only
These are easily upgradable with the OCLP patcher and work well with Sonoma. Its also great for casual web browsing, watching films, writing papers, etc. Its not a power house nor will it do what a M series will do but it can easily be found for $150 or less. Someone in the comments mentioned Linux and this is excellent on Linux and if you still need Windows this runs Windows 11 via boot camp.
it runs well enough for casual usage (browsing, note taking, minimal editing, etc.) with the proper upgrades (SSD+ New battery) i'd also advise transiting over to linux (ubuntu) before apple inevitably abandons you this year... an uphill battle to optimize this qt but a full-filling exp none the less. I will admit its quite the hassle and you're more than likely better off getting the newer models. But who doesnt love giving old tech new life!?
i have the early 2015 and it works really well just installed a new battery in it, all the find out Montery which it maxes at for a supported OS is going to be cut off December of this year 2024 how ever i have been doing video editing on it and its not bad for the dual core 1.6 ghz i5 that i have, and it should be good for garage band and logic still have to test thoes yet, anyhow surfing the interet it well ok its not great but it works and yes its thin and ilght and lacks ports but you cna use a hub for type C or adapters but youll going to be liminted to the type a port speeds , now as for the disaply its good its a mac , and yo ucan run extenral IPS panel 4k if you want to as well to improve and you can also upgrade the internal storage your self , but the ram is what ever you got with it i got mine with 8 gigs and its ok with montery as it uses jusr under 3 gigs of ram so 5 gigs for apps is ok just dont push your luck to far and you will avoid swap. over all its ok now once montery is done at the end of this year the next option is going to be stiuck with it till it wont surf anymore then its time to think about 2 new options 1 get a new mac 2 OCLP and use and unsuported OS on it like ventura or sonoma just becareful as you will get a performance hit and you will get higher even resting temps as well. when doing this, Honestly id just buy a new laptop at that point, i tried the newest version of mind craft on mine and it had a huge theromo overload and shut down had to let it cool for a bit before attemting to start back up again but all went well. so no minecraft it cant handel it took about 3 min rufly before it crash me down to lights out .. it can handel some ight duty games really good tho ,and you can run windows 10 on it which it reasched of of life october 2025 so there you have it , should you buy this in 2024 probely not but if you own one already use it for now till you can replace it..Also apple never offered these with 16 gig of ram at least according to my research
My 2015 I am still happy with but battery loses charge so fast so I am trying to decide if I should replace battery. My only concern is software supported updates. I use my for teaching but mostly just use google docs and google slides and web browsing... I am curious if you could help me understand what other problems I may come across. Thanks
Yes! I have used one for about 6 months, mostly for Mac Mail (containing 25 years of email!) and Google Workspace with about 30-50 Chrome tabs typically open. Having said that, I’m upgrading to an M1 or M2 as soon as I resolve some 32 bit app issues.
@@randomperson-rj1pt Yes, at the right price. I also have a 2023 MacBook Air and I use both every day. I believe that there were 2 screen sizes, get the one with the larger screen. I also have an SD card adaptor which holds a 1TB micro SD card and fits completely into the card slot and fits flush with the case.
Correction: these did not come with 16 GB ram, only 2017 models did.
yea i was wondering about this model
but no i7 option for 2017 model

How does windows 11 preform on this machine? Do you happen to know?

Would it be good for uni? I'm looking for a good light laptop that can take notes / use the internet?
