Reporting from Aug 4th, 2023: Just ReFormated a Early 2015 Macbook Air with 128 GB Flash Storage and 8 GB Ram. MacOS used: Monterey I updated, installed every app i wanted, including my indexing my entire Photo Library. Then i thought about your upgrade: I bought EaseUS To Do Backup, Cloned my drive to a Silicon Power 2TB NVMe M.2 PCIe Gen3x4 2280 SSD. Bought the adapter ofcourse. Thanks for the attention to detail. Popped off old 128 GB Flash Storage Drive, added the cloned NVME+Adapter and Voila! Works like a charm. I am now going to download all my photos and videos from my iCloud just because i can. Thanks for the great video Brady, Easy to pull the trigger on this project. Im about to do the same to my sister in laws mac, and my wife's macbook air. All we do is photo viewing, sending generated memories, and light word processing.
I recently got this MacBook Air in a trade. For what I use laptops for, this is good for me. While I ill say the display isn't the best, it's not the worst I ever seen. Overall, I am pleased with this.
I can agree with you on the display, but it runs so smoothly and runs like new tbh I don't care for all that extra blah, I even upgraded to Monterey on it. Got mine from BackMarket.
I got a second hand early 2015 MacBook air about 3 years ago and I'm still using it. Just upgraded the ssd to 500gb and it runs like a dream for all my school work. The only thing I needed to fix about it was the battery about a year ago. It's awesome and I am going to use this thing until the day it dies on me
I’m thinking of getting a refurbished 2015 macbook air. Seems like a good choice as it’s cheaper and I just need a laptop for school. I know the new macbooks are really great.. but as a student, saving that extra few hundred dollars means a lot. Do you think this laptop will suffice in 2022? Softwares and everything. Any problems like slow loading etc?
Congrats! The unibody air will continue to be a viable option for many who are just looking to perform average daily tasks (especially students!) for years to come. I’ve enjoyed using mine for college.
Just got the 11in early 2015 MacBook air last week for school. Love the portability and it can be updated to the newest macOS. No lagging and didn't spend no more that $200
Amazing editing and very informative video. Very reliable and easily to understand. You're too underrated, hope you gain more subscribers in the future.
That’s awesome! Thank you for your support, I sincerely appreciate it. I still use my Air from this video daily and love it. Hope you enjoy your MacBook Air!
Great video I have an early 2015 with 4 GB and I was getting frustrated as to why I can’t do something as simple as using my Apple ID and now I know I need to upgrade my OS . Thanks for this video I will now order what you recommended .
I have one of these I bought used in 2019. Has the i7 and 8g ram. Still use it for field machine but it needs a new battery and I'd love to upgrade the storage. Was going to go the iFixit mac approved storage route but looks like this will save me quite a bit. Thank you sir!
If you get an OWC ssd you don’t need an adapter it’s plug and play. I also use grizzly thermal paste and thermal pads to keep my 2015 MacBook Air running cooler so it doesn’t throttle. Runs like a dream!
Nice video. I've owned several of that form factor (2010, 2012, 2015 2x). All 11.6" models. I love the portability, and the 2015 11.6" Air is still a good basic task machine. I did spring for i7 models in the 2012 and 2015 units, as it gave a little more oomph to some of the AV tasks that I was doing with them. The i5 is fine for most folks. 8G is a must. While 4G was available back then, the 4G models can struggle.
you're awesome dude. this was a great video and very helpful. I also really appreciate the fact that you gave a straight up answer to the question of "should i/ is this worth purchasing"? You were the proverbial icing on the cake in my decision to purchase the 2015 model macbook air. and if anyone happens to be reading this, i am a 4th year uni student.
Thank you so much for the kind words! Really glad that this helped you. I still have mine and it’s a great as a run around MacBook! One note, before you install the upgraded SSD, go ahead and upgrade to Monterey. It’ll save you an extra step with a firmware update
Seems like the best MacBook for me. I got it for $427 so yeah, worth it for a MacBook as I'm a reseller and need to be able to list on the go and transfer photos easily between systems. AND I can install windows if I want. Great
I feel SO GOOD now about my somewhat impulsive buy of a 2017 macbook air. Ive never owned a macbook before and wanted to buy something cheaper, now im almost happier I bought the older model!!
It was a bit of an impulse by for me too haha! Really glad you've liked yours. It's such a solid laptop even in 2022. The build quality and software support from Apple are amazing.
Hey, man! I just grub a Macbook Air 13 (2015) 4/128 yesterday for doing the things for my kids's school iPad. That's really a good deal and I looking for upgrade the storage as your video do. Thx for sharing!! Stay healthy stay happy!!

My friend gave me his 2015 Air (he did NOT take care of it) and I’m in the process of cleaning it up and doing some upgrades. It’s been a fun project and I didn’t even think of dual booting until you mentioned!
You can grab a cheap 2015 MacBook Air on back market. I snagged a 2015 11in air for $200 but it was in fair condition. A little more gets you one in better condition. Not the best in terms of hardware but it runs the latest Max Os but windows 10 is much faster. For my needs it’s perfect.

I have the MBP Early 2015 version 512gb ssd, i5 dual core 8gb ram handed down to me by my bro in law for free. What's surprising is this 7 yr old laptop is only at 510/1000 charge cycles when I got it so the battery was still fine. I just had it cleaned and repasted and it runs good enough for basic tasks (web browsing, emails, streaming netflix) I'll also remove the anti glare film with alcohol to make the screen better. hi, halfway through 2022 here. I just upgraded a macbook air 2015 with a 1TB nvme exactly the same way. Still supported with the latest macOS and works quite well. I even do some work with it (Jetbrains IDE's and some Lightroom picture editing etc). All good all fine. These laptops are around £200 on ebay now. If you can find a good 8GB one it would be good enough for daily use just fine in my opinion.
So I have the opportunity to purchase a 2015 i5 model for 150$ but the only caveat is that it’s 4gb of ram. Should I still go for it? I do a lot of excel work and use chrome tabs so idk if it’s worth it
I recently bought the same MacBook Air with a faulty battery for 160€. Then I paid 60€ for a new battery. Now when I use the MBA unplugged it shuts down with around 20% battery left (used to be around 30%). I guess I still need to recalibrate it by completely draining and then charging the battery in one go.
I‘d highly recommend getting an M1 MB Air for just a slightly higher price - better display, better speakers, better battery life and especially a way faster processor. Also the OS is still supported and will be for some years to come. The Intel-MBAs are just obsolete, especially the ones with the old TN-panels (silver bezels).
Do you still have it? In planning to get one ditching my lenovo legion 5 gaming laptop for weight and battery life. Can i scrub through video editing without lag? Mainly axie infinity gameplay and in 1080p
As much as I like reusing old tech, you will probably spend more money in the long term, as you’ll need to upgrade faster compared to a modern M1 MacBook. Definitely more of a holdover for college students until they can get a new one after graduation.
I really wished that i'm seeing this video before i bought the 2017 MBA 😆 Anyway, great video with the such price-to-performance insight. Going to recommend this video if my friends asking for cheap macbook buying guide 😆

Hi, will the crucial p2 1tb work with macbook air 2017?
Can we buy macbook air 2017 model from apple store like brand new or from any other shops in the market. ?
As much as I like reusing old tech, you will probably spend more money in the long term, as you’ll need to upgrade faster compared to a modern M1 MacBook. Definitely more of a holdover for college students until they can get a new one after graduation.
true but i spent 240 dollars on a 2015 MacBook pro 13" i7 I've just upgraded from a 2012 that a bought new in 2012 with an i5 and 4gb ram

Do you think the 2017 model would be worth it in 2024 for a highsxhool student?
It’s getting tricky now…
M1 MacBook airs have gotten WAY cheaper and may be a better value if you decide to do anything creative-related
I’ve looked at m1 and they are around 700 Which was like brand new price at Costco so I might sit an wait for them to go down. Thanks
