- Reaction To Max Giermann as Klaus Kinski (Goldene Kamera 2016) | German Comedy
This is my reaction to Max Giermann as Klaus Kinski (Goldene Kamera 2016)
In this video I react to German actor, comedian and impersonator Max Giermann performing as German actor Klaus Kinski at the Goldene Kamera show
Original Video - • Goldene Kamera 2016 Kl...
The most hilarious thing is the way the audience stares at Giermann. As if they were scared to laugh, like they would be of Kinski himself! That’s the best compliment they could pay him 😂
Klaus Kinski was a Genius as an actor but a maniac in life.
There are rumours that his public persona was an act, very different from his private character.
Klaus Kinski is overrated as an actor. in persona he is a legend. controvers, against all, but gentle and nice if its was needed.
Max giermann manages to give him a positive vibe post mortem and thus portray him as more than sympathetic. Although he was a very difficult person.
@@andreaskairies1523 What part of this video makes him seem likeable to you? To me it's just the same raging maniac that I know him as.
"Zwischen dem Genie und dem Wahnsinnigen ist die Ähnlichkeit, dass sie in einer anderen Welt leben als der für alle vorhandenen." (Schopenhauer)
@@jkb2016According to his daughters, he was the same in his private life. He was absolutely unpredictable, short-tempered and tyrannical.
In the movie set, you saw Kinski at the beginning, were some natives hired for lifting and because they knew the surroundings. After a few days of filming, a few natives came to the director (a good friend of Kinski) and offered to kill him and bury his corpse so deep in the jungle, that no one ever would find him^^
Yeah well, I guess you can't just take Kinski and go with him to civilized people, of course they wanted to kill him
Legend has it Kinski and Director Werner Herzog got along so badly while shooting Fitzcaraldo that one of the indigenous local tribesmen - they were hired as guides and helpers - offered Herzog to kill Kinski for him. Herzog even wrote a book about their relationship.
that is not just a legend, that was true
Ja war echt so😅
Max Giermann is simply an exceptional talent, definitely by far the best and most versatile impersonator we have in Germany. Klaus Kinski is one of his showpiece roles, but the persona of Kinski also provides enough material in terms of quirks and mannerisms.
It's a real shame that the English subtitles were total garbage and so many things were either not translated at all or translated incorrectly.
Those seem to be autotranslated. Some of the previous reactions had those. One should best ignore them.
Max Giermann once said in an interview that he sometimes even finds it difficult to get rid of certain habits that he has developed for a character. For example, he sometimes tugs on his jacket like Stefan Raab.
I can think of two ways to parody a person. The first is a parody of what you see, the second is what Gierman does, imitating the person to the point of method acting, and create a parody from there. As if he is Kinski parodying Kinski.
@@ErwinBlonk True. What's more with Max Giermann is that he has an absolutely brilliant team who do his "rubber masks", hair and make-up. I've seen videos of it. The time and effort is amazing.
@@Steps85 In The Netherlands we had Koot & Bie. They had one guy doing all this for them. They rarely did someone existing but they had a cast of characters. You completely forget it was them. Their strength was creating fully formed character and morphing into it. The make-up artist created a perfect look to it, based on their character description and initial material, without any guidelines on how it should look.
Max Giermann is a German national treasure and a freaking comedy legend, his carreer started out in the german sketch series "Switch" which later got an update as "Switch Reloaded", he created many of the roles he is famous for impersonating for in that show, in my opinion, when he parodies the german legendary entertainer Stefan Raab, that's his absolute prime example of his abilities, he can do him to near perfection.
It was even such a big thing that one time the real Stefan Raab invited him to his show "TV Total" where Max Giermann then impersonated Stefan Raab.
TWO Stefan Raab's on screen xD
IF you're able to find that clip, go watch it! It's hilarious!
He did last time
Definitely his best Kinski performance 😂
The blonde guy, Thomas Gottschalk, had a talk with the real Klaus Kinski on TV several years ago. You can see in his reaction in the end how awesome Max Giermann's impression really is.
Also after Max tells him "you a**hole", he gives the best line in the video: "It's better to be insulted by Klaus Kinski then to be praised by Leute heute (German news show about stars and their lives)"
These are the things why I'm glad I kept up my German and knowing a bit about Germany beyond just history.
You missed Gottschalk saying "better to be insulted by Kinski than be praised by " at the end.
The scary thing is how Max Giermann actually portraits him.
If you seen this Guy and his "characteristics", that's extremely hard to get even close to - especially his "Episodes".
Everyone can scream and shout.
But only Max Giermann can actually send chills down your Spine just like the Original
Like this man is one of Germany's National Treasures
Now that you learned about the Golden Kamera, u might want to watch the video of the comedy duo "Yoko und Claas" and how they sneaked a Ryan Gosling impersonator into the show to win a Golden Kamera for them. Its a fun video (and tells you a lot about the value of these prices)
Here is the name of the video: (1/2) Subtitled: #GoslingGate: Fake Ryan Gosling Prank | Goldene Kamera 2017 | Circus HalliGalli
Second that! But I think Who is Mert should watch both parts.😉
(Important: they have home made subtitles. )
Max Giermann is a brillant actor who got trained in theatre at the most prestigious German drama school there is, the Hochschule für Schauspielkunst Ernst Busch. Some of the best well known German actors get their training there. I love to see his work! ❤
I really like that you do some research (e.g. checking the background of Kinski to understand who he is and learning about Die goldene Kamera as wow).
Yes that's great
I can tell you as someone who watched a lot of movies with as well as documentaries about Kinski that this was spot on. Perfect.
There used to be a series called "Sketch history", where many different historical situations were taken on humorously. Giermann was also in it. So I can say: yes, he's not only a good impressionist, but also a good actor. If he had been lucky enough to have been born in America, he would probably have become a Hollywood star who would have put even Jim Carrey to shame.
The subtitles are so bad, Klaus Kinski would get a heart attack immediately.
ja diese Untertitel sind so bescheuert
Kinski was a real choleric person and he was well-known and often feared for his outbreaks and ourtraging temper. If you really want to know something about him, you have to watch Werner Herzogs Documentation about the making of Fitzcarraldo. They suffered so many setbacks and the nerves of all people involved were extremely stretched out...
The indigenous people who worked as extras on the film even offered to Herzog to kill off Kinski for him, because he was so vile.
Insane. Werner Herzog bio : Every man for himself and God against all
(Jeder für sich und Gott gegen alle) See films starring with Kinski, Impossible Missions, larger than life characters.
I'm not surprised at all that he was so much "softer" on american tv, because he probably needed to promote a movie, and with his usual behavior and language, it would have been one single many minutes long BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP
Werner Herzog said that Kinski hated not being the in the centre of attention. That's when he had his meltdowns. So being the star on american tv was fine for him.
He probably also respected Letterman and the US media/film industry a lot more than German media. He had an inflated ego and saw himself as the greatest. Everything under Hollywood he probably saw beneath him.
Thank you for going into more detail about Max Giermann's performance as Klaus Kinski. Cheers
Great video, Mert! I think it's extremely rare to see a youtuber who takes the time and makes the effort to go deeper into the content of the videos he's going to react to. That's practically a unique selling point of your channel😉 and I love it! Keep it up,Mert! Greetings from Germany.
I have to agree.
i quite like merts reaction content because he seems so genuine too
Love your reactions, Mert, but as always, the auto generated/ translated subtitles of the videos you’re watching are not really good unfortunately
In reality Max Giermann is a really nice and amicable person.
After Kinski's blowup on the set of "Fitzcarraldo", the natives (part of the film) were completely shocked and offered to Werner Herzog (the director and the only person who was able to handle that maniac) to kill Kinski. They thought he was posessed by the devil (and maybe they were right...).
Yup! True story.
Max Giermann is unbeatable as an impersonator. Klaus Kinski is his signature role. In this one he shows Kinski at 120%. Awesome!
Giermann really is one of a kind. My absolute favourite is "Der Papst im Drogenkloster (the pope in the drug-cloister)" ... it´s absolutely hilarious.
too bad the subtitles were absolutely useless :/
Still your reaction is great and adds to the experience :)
Hey Mert, I translated a Anstalt-Video. You find it under:
Die Anstalt ENG SUB: Newton, Scheuer & toll
You picked an amazing piece of max' performance!
I didnt actually know this myself.
Very impressive!
I enjoyed Max in his appearences of the german version "Last one laughing' where he was funny and even made the Kinski, just because he had to, as his signature move^^
I know some of Kinski's work and his "behaviour", so I always die with laughter at Max' impersonation of Kinski. My favourite perfomance. Also, a little bit frightening, just like the real Kinski.
I'm not so sure Klaus Kinski would have been proud of Max' performance 🤣 As previous comments say, he was really a maniac.
Max doesn't impersonating Kinski, he's Kinski when he immersed into da character😂
It's great, that you take the time to inform you beforehand about what you are going to watch! Makes a better viewing experience for you and us! :D
Klaus Kinski was a top tier narcissist. He didn't "play" the roles, he "lived" them. The documentary about Kinski by Werner Herzog show this quite well. Though you have to take it with a grain of salt since it was a one-sided report. However it contains some crazy stories what actually happened at the set of some of the movies.
Absolutely insane method actor
Gerard Butler is there, cause they always check which international actor is in Germany anyway, at the time of the Gala. Then they make up an award, that you could present to them, so they don't only have german actors on the program.
True story. If some one cancels for some reason, they make up a new category for someone who is available.
You are great! I know you since yesterday and ... you're in my life and heart nearly at once... After reading, listening and watching cabaret and comedy all my long life, you're a perfect present for my 70th- THANKS Mert 💐💐💐
Greetings from Germany again. Yay you watched Max as Klaus Kinski. ❤
Die goldene Camera actually attracts quite the mix of celebraties from all around the globe.
And regarding Butler: As far as I know he's fluent in english, french and german and dabbles in some other languages as well.
Unfortunately the subtitles are completely wrong most of the time. Too bad since it is an exceptional performance by Max Giermann.
My Childhood Hero is Markus Maria Profitlich from his Show Mensch Markus.
And Bullyparade was also a must see in my childhood days.
I'm from Germany and I love your view on this part of german culture - your commantary to the clips is always great (although your not seeing the picture what it means in germany...) I could tell you a lot what Kinsky is for me and his typical and well known appearances in publicity ... he brought lots of really amazing big art in his films but always was so controvers because of big noise he was always giving to everybody - at least a genious and very tragical person at the same moment..
Joko & Klaas, two german entertainers and TV hosts (Max Giermann also impersonated them in the compliation video you watched a few days ago), managed to send a "Ryan Gossling impersonator" to the golden camera award show, and actually made him win the award by tricking the people who organize and manage the award show. It was part of their popular Late Night Show Circus Halligalli, and you can actually watch it in a subtitled two part video here on UA-cam.
I really like your reactions, keep up the good content!🙂
You have to check out the German version of Last one laughing! Max is a frequent guest there. ❤
Klaus Kinski was difficult, very difficult. But he played the role of a psychopath really intense. Probably he was a psychopath. Check for his daughters and the accuse of sexual abuse.
If u are interested in more Kinski material there was a German TV show called "Sketch history" where they took famous historical moments and turned them in a funny way like they happened the other way around. There was a parody of this iconic Kinski behind the scenes scene in the jungle. This is sooooo good! U have to watch this!
Imagine an Oscar-Nomination... all artists are present in the audience... and Kinsky prevents any Oscar be handed out :)
It`s the cream of German and European film industry sitting there: Actors, Producers, Regisseurs, Bookwriters - and I think many of the german TV- and Film-Audience will know 70% by name, who sit in that audience :) Giermann knows exactly, what he is doing... and this audience would have crucified him - in case he`d failed, to deliver Kinsky in his natural Jurassic-Parc-Quality 🦖
Fun Fact: Sibel Kekili, who he mentioned while describing the second movie, played Shae in Game of Thrones.
The audience was shocked and fascinated at the same time,
because it seemed as if Klaus Kinski had risen from the dead.
Kinski was a dangerous guy, always on the verge of getting violent.
If you ask me, Klaus Kinski was insane.
I am really impressed by your video and reaction. Taking the time to look him up first and search for some information to get what this is all about, with mentioning that you got the idea, although you didn't got every detail, which is absolutly ok. Very well done! *respect
Maybe you can do Max as "Hugo Egon Balder", too. The video at the "Geburtstags" show for "Helga von Sinnen" as Hugo is there, too, and Helga / Hugo are best friends! < if this sentence makes sense! ^^+gg
If you enjoy Max Giermann, you should check out "Last One Laughing - Giermann parodiert Sträter" because in that clip Max Giermann impersonates Torsten Sträter (who is in the room with him). Plus: The translation really good!
Absolutley recommend this as well. His perfomance as Torsten Sträter is amazing and you can see that by the reaction of Sträter himself. He is absolutely fascinated by himself presented as a role.
He also shows several of his other characters there and a lot of improv comedy .... here is one short as jorge ... ua-cam.com/video/XskmolqMEWU/v-deo.htmlsi=cNrwdXJwxTZ0h2Up
If Klaus Kinski were still alive, Max Giermann wouldn't dare to parody him, that's for sure.
Or Kinski would've been so impressed with the accuracy, that he would've laughed as loudest in the crowd
@@Anthyrion unlikely. Self-deprecation wasn't Kinski's strongest suit, to put it mildly.
@@AnthyrionThat's right, Kinski was a narcissist and a perfectionist.
Even if he might not have liked being parodied in this way, he would have praised the perfection with which Giermann acts.
@@Ace-Of-Spades--- Yes. In the end it would have depended on his mood that day if he would've laughed or if he would've tried to kill Giermann^^
Kinski thought he was the one and only master of an actor and director out there in the whole world and shouted very often about them amateurs.^^ He was perfectionist and of course, he acts very well. He was exactly one with the role. But he was a bit to far psychopath.^^ Giermann really does Kinski in perfection.
I would recommend to watch the second season of the German Version of "LOL - Last one Laughing". In this season particularly Giermann shows off his impressive range not only of impersonations but his general comedic abilities sometimes inventing gags right there on the spot. I realise however that for a non german speaking audience the whole of the show will probably become a bit tiring. Some of the best of these LOL performances can be watched here on youtube.
Trust me, his impersonation of Klaus Kinski is a master piece of art.
I don't think that Klaus Kinski would be proud.
He would be livid. I can't imagine that he would have liked anyone impersonating his rages.
That was the best impersonation of Klaus Kinski I have ever seen.
The German Bill Hader... 😂
Excellent reaction and I really appreciate that you looked Kinski up before doing this.
Klaus was often a challenging person on camera. But his talent was to play even the most extreme characters to full extend like in Aguirre and Woyzeck. Because of this talent he was often also type castet for maniacs and psycopaths or just typical bad guys. He wasn't easy but he took his job very serious. And he put on a show when on television to make dialogues more interesting to the audience.
ja max giermann ist einfach nur super, ich liebe seine arbeiten
yes, max giermann is just great, I love his work german greetings
He uses more or less Kinski quotes in this scene. Most of them from this iconic behind the scenes scene in the jungle.
Oh damn, the translation is utterly abysmal, almost everything he said got totally lost.
Better than Original Klaus Kinski. Awesome!
If you already like that you would absolutely like Last One Laughing which is a TV Show on Amazon Prime where Comedians mustn't laugh for 6 hours and the last one not laughing wins. It's absolutely impossible not to laugh and Max Giermann is also in this show.
Best thing is, that some actors he referred to as Kinski, were actually in the audience. Max is an absolute Genius.
Max Giermann's parody is frighteningly good. You're never quite sure whether you want to laugh or not. Because there's one thing you mustn't forget: Kinski was a narcissist, a psychopath. His daughters will probably not find the parody funny. But this is where Max Giermann's great skill comes to the fore: despite all the slapstick, he manages to bring this madness in Kinski to life. Laughter liberates. For this reason alone, Giermann's parody is huge!
But I also have to get something off my chest: I like your Scottish accent!
One also extremely funny actor and comedian is Rick Kavanian.
He was a member of the Bully Parade Commedy Cast but his solo numbers are also genius
Now I hope Max Giermann finds this and imitates you. 😂
I dont think you need to know the original Klinski too much. Max said himself in interviews that he never thought his Kinski impression would be too popular because Kinski is simply not a very relevant personality anymore, i mean this man died in 1991 so a lot of younger never heard of klaus kinski before this impression. it probably mainly blew up because of maxs great performance regardless of wether its in imitation or not.
Theres a show on amazon prime called Last one Laughing and Max participates in quite a few of their seasons and experiments a lot, basically not relying so much on imitating and more on other funny things he came up with. I think the english subtitles are also reasonably good, certainly better than UA-cam automated subtitles
This is not overplayed. Klaus Kinski really behaved like that. In real life, on movie sets and in interviews. :D Genius and Madness at the same time.
Imagine: Klaus Kinski playing the Joker in a Batman movie...
He implements him 1:1. Unbelievable.
Klaus Kinski would be enraged about this, of course. You can see how good an actor is when their counter-part really doesn't need to play their role but just is instilled with the right feelings, like you can see Gottschalk in the end being really insecure about what might come next, looking like he forgot when, where and who he was. Also the role gies Max the chance to call Gottschalk an asshole, which is something like saying that to the Queen. The ranting is on par with rants in British movies, I think, yo you should get the right feeling if you think of those.
his ability to get into a role and thinking about how this persona would behave and really trying to impersonate m is chefs kiss. german jim carre
You need to watch the documentary "My best fiend" by Werner Herzog. It's also available in English an it really explains it all as Giermann basically copies Kinski's major fallouts on set and in interviews that are all covered in there...
Manic performance by Giermann
My favourite Kinski scene is 'Du dumme Sau", Giermann makes a good cover, he is great
Yeeeeah thank you Mert for choosing exactly the Kinski video I recommended you a while ago!!
Love your videos. Keep up the good work :)
Another great one would be Helge Schneider who is more on the comedian side than doing satire and the character Heinz Becker played by Gerd Dudenhöffer who's impersonating a regular table chatterbox type of guy with brutal dark humor. You'll probably love Heinz Becker and Helge Schneider who is a brilliant jazz musician as well.
I like how you prepare yourself before watching and reacting to a video. 👍
Max is one of the best comedy en !
Klaus Kinski wouldn't have been proud. Max Giermann was making fun of him, everybody was laughing. If Klaus Kinski was still alive, I think he rather would have killed him! 😂
Klaus Kinski, das A-loch vorm Herrn... but still a great actor.
😂
Great job, Giermann! I really shoul re-visit some "Switch"
Max Giermann ist ein exzellenter Comedian.
Viele Grüße aus Deutschland 🇩🇪
It was very great theatre !
Look out for Interviews with Kinski. And never forget his daughter Nastassia. Beautiful woman.
Max Giermann is the Best. Look his series "History Scetch" ... its so amazing.
Thanks for your videos and for the work you put in these. That you did research before, is really great. good job, mate!
One of the most talented impersonators today. Love that many younger folks now have a look at Kinski's work.
Which work are the people having a look on? Which work is Max Giermann reflecting?
We have a TV sketch show called 'Sketch History'. There you can see Max Giermann as Caesar as Klaus Kinski.
Watched a documentary with a film student acquaintance of mine about Herzog's work with Kinski some years ago and let me tell you, it was intense.
I mean, when you go to some indigenous tribe in the Amazon and they actually offer (to the director) to kill you bc they think you're an evil spirit, you know you're not just a regular run-of-the-mill choleric.
You want to know who was Klaus Kinski? Watch Werner Herzogs dokumentation about him ("Mein liebster Feind").
He was great. He was crazy.
I love his work so much
Boar wie cool, du kennst Max Giermann 😂💗
that first video you took a glance at (Fitzgeraldo):
I really recommend taking a look at the whole history behind that movie's production if you want to find out just how insane Klaus Kinski could get with his choleric attacks.
The natives they hired as tours and for carrying luggage offered to kill Kinski and hide his corpse at one point.
Hi Mert! The scene with Klaus Kinski in Fitzcarraldo, Peru. The natives there, as film extras. They witnessed the argument and offered the director Herzog to kill Klaus Kinski.
Herzog refused and said he still needed Klaus Kinski.🤣
Dear Mert, to dig into ones live from outside as you do, or the way you do is very much intriguing, especially not speeking the language! I'm not so much a big fan of Kinski, but I thought to understand such as this, nobody from a diffenrent country would be able. You are making an incedible efort and your analysis of people in general is great!
The thing most people get wrong about Kinski is... he wasn't an actor. He was the inverse of an actor. Kinski didn't act on screen at all. Kinski mostly acted off screen trying to be a normal person and given how much he slipped out of role there, he wasn't even very good at acting. :P
Sibel Kikelli of the nominated 2nd film is famous for her Shae in GOT.
Check out the Beatles skit of the Show "Sketch History" with Max Gierman portraying Yoko Ono 😅
that’s hilarious 😂
I'd describe kinski as artistic brilliance and insanity at it's finest. I have nothing but respect for the f*t*d*s*n*b*
