    I remember a magazine ad for Genesis back in 2009, and the ad said something like Mercedes’ and BMW are perhaps the benchmarks of the luxury auto industry, and it took time and dedication for both brands to achieve that. The ad then said that Genesis is striving for that, and they too will get better with time. 13 years have passed and it is great to see genesis continue down that path.

    • @MeynMotorGroup

      Yea my friend and I also remember their goal with the first gen Genesis was to have the quality of the 7 series, in the size of a 5 series, while costing as much as a 3 series. Honestly they kind of pulled it off because even though I didn’t mention the first gen Genesis sedan in this video, I was blown away by how well the Genesis sedan drove and it even came with a 4.6l V8. Such a nice ride Genesis has been crushing it for a while

    Lexus inexplicably chased the German import/performance market and lost, while Genesis has stepped up and conquered the bargain luxury segment. This is what the Lexus LS should have been. Lux buyers lease, they dont care what the their car is worth in 3 years.

    • @benjaminsmith2287
      @benjaminsmith2287 2 роки тому +15

      Infiniti lost. Lexus does well enough on the SUV side but it didn't really sustain on the sedan side. Too soon to tell with Genesis. Lexus LS did great the first few generations but the current-gen car, though distinctive enough, didn't catch on for some reason.

    • @DSRQ1
      @DSRQ1 2 роки тому +7

      @@benjaminsmith2287 Yes, Infiniti lost before the starting gun went off because of its perplexing introductory ad campaign featuring streams and haikus instead of cars. I was a Sales Manager at a busy Lexus store from '98-'05 and we slaughtered the German imports. Within a couple years after that Lexus started losing its way with polarizing styling, chasing performance, and confounding tech, though the RX has always been a top seller in its segment. Korean cars still have one of the worst resale value out of all major established brands on the market today. Maybe it makes sense to buy a Genesis after three years. You'll get a lot of car for the money.

    • @joec.5009
      @joec.5009 2 роки тому +1

      @@bohan9957 Obviously it used to be, but it won't be. the way people are paying way over msrp makes me to believe they will even become a leader in this department.
      it's very simple logic. when the reliablity/dependability is up as well as desirability, the resale value goes up as well. and this is due to a strong demand on their EVs and SUVs such as telluride/palisade. right now, hyundai/kia/genesis are selling everything they make.
      Genesis is a tricky pony because they lack dealership and sedans always depreciate more. i strongly believe gv80, gv70, gv60 are among the best in class in terms of resale. g90 will always be bad because like all 100k sedans, they depreciate really fast because there's no demand. g80 will hold value very well.

    A beautiful car and a technological tour de force. That interior color looks great when new and clean but will give your detailer job security. I can see the rear mats already seem to have ground in dirt. While this Genesis is certainly built and priced for the well-heeled that can afford the high dealer service/repair costs and will likely replace their vehicles every few years. I would be interested to see how all this tech holds up in a 100k mile plus follow-up review as you've done with the 2016 G80 model.

  • @jeffamburgey7485
    @jeffamburgey7485 2 роки тому +6

    Great review Kevin, the car looks amazing, the light wrapping around the fender, to me, is fresh and looks great. The rear is gorgeous, and the front somehow makes me think of an Aston. I think the "magic" your describing is refinement. You know I'm Lexus Boy, and cannot seem to let go of my 18 LS. With that said, and being objective the Genesis is beautiful. Long live the sedan. I agree the delay is probably intentional. Excellent articulation, and the rear flank from the side is very attractive. The LS V6 is not a V8, it never will be, and the "lethargic" feel without the cream torque of the V8 is real, also with Lexus. I did a long road trip in the LS in light traffic and was 32 mpg, no V8 that I know of can do it, and I am good with the tradeoff. Genesis in this and the SUV department are really beautiful in design, if they are mechanically that good, the other guys better look out.

    • @MeynMotorGroup
      @MeynMotorGroup  2 роки тому +1

      Yea my friend I wanted to mention the front did remind me of an Aston. I’m actually going to do a G90 vs LS500 vid seperatley because the LS is heavily misunderstood especially the new one. In my opinion the LS is kind of the driver’s car in the flagship range along with an M sport 7 series. Is your LS the F Sport?

    • @jeffamburgey7485
      @jeffamburgey7485 2 роки тому +1

      Hi Kevin my LS is not the F type, I didn't really see the point. Mine is Eminent White with Parchment interior and luxury package. The V8 missing does change the dynamics as far as thrust, the twin turbo is great but requires getting used to. I drove a 21 and the ride is less busy for lack of a better word, perhaps a little more refined, but we love the car. I just replaced original run flats with Michelin and they are a little better. All I really know to describe my experience is that when I walk up to it, I think what a beautiful sedan, and when I get in it, I think damn this is gorgeous. I've not had many cars for this long evoke those kind of feelings. Mine only has 23k miles and really still feels new. I love big bodied sedans, and I just think the Japanese version of luxury is like a elegant parlor on wheels. The LS is a magnificent road car, I've read all the reviews and some complaints about the driving and or body lines, so I guess I just have a special connection with the Japanese engineers, I think they got it very right. I'm not a baller type......but I think I could if I so desired. Oh, and my wife to this day LOVES the black chrome wheels, and told me so a few days ago when I picked her up.

      I actually like the interior of the non F sport LS more especially for the 18-20 models like you have.
