      Yup! The 4r70w transmission is actually quite tough and will last for hundreds of thousands miles, IF you change the fluid every 60-70k. I also HIGHLY recommend doing the J-Mod, as it helps shifting and longevity.

    If you're buying straight from a PD/auction higher mileage might actually be better as fleet management may have fixed a lot of these things. I had an 09 CVPI got it with 44k miles and nearly all of those issues you mentioned happened before 85k.

      the way some cop cars and other vehicles get sold in a large city is by the cost per mile..a new car is say 1$ a mile to operate, if a car needs repair and that repair puts the cost per mile at 1.30$ per mile the car will be sold without being repaired..all municipalities will sell vehicles as is, and will not disclose any damage or repairs needed..buyer beware..

      I wonder why a 2007 was on the stay away list? The only problem I have had is when I changed the trans fluid and lost 3rd and 4th gear with 122K and 6K idle hours. Had the trans rebuilt for $1,100 with a warranty. At 135K it still runs great after new plugs, coils and fuel filter. Anybody know of tires that don't cost a fortune for these cars? Thanks Steve

Got it at 130k and surprisingly the transmission never gave out on me. Did have to change the fuel pump and the manifold went out at like 155k lol. Sold it in 2018 after I bought my 07 mustang gt. Fast forward and I have a 2014 5.0 and I’m about to pull the trigger on this 2011 PI. Man I’ve missed my Vic the day after I sold it. And I beat the hell out of that car all the way to 270k miles. The rarest and least abused crown vics are the civilian LX models. (Most were fleet cars; very few civilians.). These were purchased by old timers that garaged and babied their cars, also they were an inch lower! Also lighter because they didn't have all the unnecessary aftermarket oil coolers and extra large alternators and wiring. They also got the 2.73 rear gears that get 30mpg highway. No rubber mats to hold in water and rust out your floorboards. And lastly, insurance is cheaper than a p71. I don't want the girl that's been used and abused; I'll take the classy demure gal any day. Also, in "grand marquis" the "S" at the end is silent. It's more like "mar-kee". Your welcome.

    We should all form a national Crown Vic fan club. I am going through the dreaded intake manifold experience right now with my 2008 crown vic lx. It is only a small leak, but just smelling the coolant and seeing a bit of a wet area in the back of the intake manifold makes me sweat with fear, but I think it should be all right. if everyone has survived this experience I am sure my crown vic will not let me down.

    After driving a 1996 and a 2001 and replacing similar things on both cars. I was just driving a LX model car that was upfitted for a police department and then never put it in service. The crown vics I had where very quick off the line and got really good mileage driving around the city and on the interstate. I was happy to get 25+ mpg on the regular. The cars where very tough cars but rust on the frame by the steering gearbox was an issue and caused a lot of problems. The engine and trans where never an issue for either car and they both had a ton of miles on them and a lot of hard miles also.

    All of the pulleys on the front of the motor are susceptible to fail due to the idle hour. My 07 with 120,000 miles, the water pump was the first to go. (easiest and cheapest water pump I ever did by far). and it failed hard, it went from a tiny drip and a little bit of bearing growl to full gusher in only a few days and maybe a hundred miles. Go ahead and order one to have on hand and change it when you do your next coolant flush.

    They introduced an improved intake manifold beginning on the 2002 models and this greatly reduced the chances of problems. The new intake has a cast aluminum piece across the front and a redesigned alternator mount. The new intake manifold has less stress on these key mount areas and a stronger material to support the load.

    great video, thanks.
    2 questions:
    1- why is idle hours so bad?
    2 - is the intake manifold problem inherent in the modular 4.6L engine? so it can affect the other panther body cars and the mustang?

    • @phinphan1467
      @phinphan1467 Рік тому

      To answer question 1, the idle hours are so bad because some were used for cops and cops would idle in them a lot as they do and I can’t answer 2

      @@MooseOG no never had any problems to I had to sell it for a low price because I had problems with life. The car is a champ and worth taking a chance on it. If it's over 150 thousand I wouldn't buy.
      I spent 2500 on 138 thousand and it was a solid Tough car and pretty.

    Currently own a 2009 p71. Previously owned a 2003 and a 2004 p71. Other than upgrades and regular maintenance the only repairs I have had to do from 99k to now 128k is the cooling fan twice, thermostat, and driver door window motor. Transmission shifts like new still. Hoping for a long life now at 128k
