I don’t care what anyone says. The p71 is the greatest car ever made. Period. They are just jealous with their overpriced wussy cars. The Crown Victoria rules.

I’ve owned my 2005 p71 for 4 years now and have no regrets.
Reliable and inexpensive to maintain. It has now 160k miles and am now looking for another one for backup.
I drive it like the old man I am and the wife also likes it.
The paint is the only negative on it which was a typical issue.

Replace all the factory rubber frame and suspension bushings with polyurethane. ADCO sway bars and bushings. ADTR.net has many other great parts. Full engine, brake, steering tuneup. Just this stuff alone will make the Vic handle 100% better and last another 20 years.

Depends on the rear end (3.27 or 3.55). I can't remember which was which, but one was limited to 129 and the other was 139. It's all about the harmonics of the driveshaft. The different rear gear changes the speed those harmonics are reached.

Ford didn't use the Crown Victoria name on the LTD until the redesigned down sized 1979 model. It was then called the LTD Crown Victoria. At some point in the mid-80's, the LTD name was dropped. I want to say with the 1986 model year, but am not certain.

Gorgeous car, interesting video... although a couple points have me somewhat confused.
At 0:54 you say the Police Interceptor was introduced in 1999. I have a '98 Vic and all my documentation says it's one of those... from the P71 on the V.I.N. plate, to the words "Police Interceptor" printed on both the title & my insurance cards.
2nd: at about 5:44 you mentioned something about body on frame design of the police interceptor. I'm pretty sure all Vics were made that way. Something of a legacy design from the first LTD Vics of the 1970's. Plus, it would've been too expensive for Ford to redesign the civilian Vic into a Unibody type car. I can't imagine the logistical nightmare of needing 2 factories to build such different versions of one car.

      @bigman-jm5mf 3 роки тому +1

In 2001 I bought a brand new all black CVPI. Don't know the full details why it didn't go to the police dept with all the other CVPI's they had parked in the back lot at the time but all the Ford dealer could tell me was the dealership received one car too many. The police dept received all the new CVPI's under their contract and couldn't take the extra one so the dealer was left with one extra car and they offer it for sale hoping someone would buy it. I happened to be in the market for my first brand new Crown Vic, never thinking I would be able to buy a brand spanking new CVPI so I was ready to buy and was more than happy to take it off their hands. It had the nicer interior like the top brass tends to drive so it wasn't just a bare-bones police car. I drove that car about 7 years before trading it on a beautiful top-end Grand Marquis but that CVPI was THE best car I've ever owned and never had a single problem with it apart from periodically replacing tires, brakes, belts, oil, filters, wiper blades, etc... basically all the things that eventually wear out on their own. That car was a one-time deal and I was happy it all came together the way it did.

That package you were speaking of (that it was before he put the police looking rims and push bar) is actually called the
    'Civilian Appearance Package'
It normally consists of full coverage yet conservative hubcaps,a chrome grill and exterior trim,no spotlights, pushbar,or externally visible lights, markings,or antennas.
Also that car nor will any of the cars after 2003 could ever go over 125 to 130 mph unless they were reprogrammed for US Marshal Service and some Military use where transcontinental(regularly traveling the distances of several states or cross county).

Note too, the Taurus & Explorer POLICE packages that replaced the P71 CVPI, did good with the 3.7L V6 but not the EcoBoost 3.5L V6 option. The newer models however, ALL had water pump failures, and transmission issues at around 40,000 miles, especially the EcoBoost units that shredded the transmissions. Not a great idea, as also the turbos on the EcoBoost engines could also be prone to failure.
Ford SHOULD bring the Crown Victoria back with a stronger transmission and rearend setup from a Mustang using the Coyote 5.OL V8 as a standard engine, and the 3.3L V6 as the optional. STILL the best patrol cars EVER built in the past 30 years.

The 2006-2011 Police Interceptors are equipped standard with an open 3.27:1 rear axle (Axle code Z5), with a trac loc 3.27:1 rear axle (Axle Code X5) optional, and are electronically limited to 140 mph (225 km/h) due to critical driveline speed limitations (The weight of the vehicle with law-enforcement equipment on-board makes it highly unlikely the vehicle could ever reach this figure). An optional 3.55:1 trac loc rear axle ratio with 120 mph speed limiter was also available (Axle code C6). The aero redesign was introduced in 1992. There was another redesign for the 2003 model that switched to a rack and pinion steering and stiffer frame, making 03 and later more desirable. But even without those changes the Crown Vic has been a good solid car worth buying IMHO. I had an 86 CVPI 5.8L, a 92 civ and now drive the very best of the Ford Panther platform evolution, an 04 Marauder with a Vortech supercharger and a few other performance mods. I will never sell it.

    Engine: 4.6l V-8, 3 valve P.I.
Speed limited to around 125 mph because the tailshaft bushing would walk out due to lack of enough lube.

Ignore the people who claim "maintenance free." Folks, these are machines like any other, so they have some design flaws and they need routine (fluids, thermostat, water pump, brakes, etc.) and some extreme maintenance, such as one big issue is the poorly designed manifold and intake areas that are prone to coolant leaking which can quickly destroy the engine if ignored.

I have driven at least 10-12 of these things for many, many miles in all weather conditions. Also, bad gas mileage...17mpg if you are lucky. Painful drivers seat. Other than that, a very solid car and is my choice if some a-hole slamming into me is in the cards.

The last badass car ever made in America...PERIOD. I hate the way new cars are made.
The Crown Vic was introduced in 1955 as the Ford Fairlane Crown Victoria. It ended up disappearing from the line in the 1960s and lowkey was tagging itself onto the Ford LTD until 1981 when the car was brought back out of retirement. In 1992, Ford made the Crown Vic THE car made for police use and didnt really hit the streets until 1993. Unfortunately the car was discontinued in 2011.
As a proud owner of 2005 CVPI, this is a greatly made video!

The Marauder project was intended to offer a Mercury Police package.
The Marauder, among other features, has a modified F250 transmission.
Ford, failing to interest various agencies in the higher priced Mercury platform, redoubled marketing efforts to the performance segment.
With typical Lincoln- Mercury thinking during the early 2000's being quick to jettison models other than Town Cars and basic Grand Marquis', within a 5 year window, the Cougar, Continental, Mark7, Blackwood, Sable and the Marauder were discontinued, some models only being offered for 3 model years.
Once Ford killed the CV and the GMQ in 2011, Mercury's time was over. To that end, one level of the Lincoln Town Car was no longer offered to private buyers, reserved only for fleet use.
Ford no longer wants to be in the car business beyond the Mustang but, like the Volkswagen Type 1, likely could have continued CV production in Mexico specifically for it's most successful market, Police and Taxi sales.
Ask any cop wedged into a Taurus( also, now discontinued), Ford or Chevy SUV, Charger, Impala what he or she misses in a vehicle EVERY ONE I've ever talked to says they miss their CV and that whatever they're driving now is not as good as the big Ford sedans.
One cop I know had a choice of
    A. a brand new Charger, or
    B. Stay in a 200K miles CV with a modest pay increase.
He chose the CV. Not because of the money. It was all about the car.
    He has since retired.
He still misses that car ...............

It's nice to see young men (well I assume the author of the video is younger than me?-- maybe a millennial maybe younger?... I can't really tell... it's not that important) who appreciate traditional RWD body on frame large American sedans; and not just the 70+ year old set that remembers these in the 50's and 60's.
Though I have seen an interesting trend as of late: Older people in their 70's embracing the Toyota Prius, Nissan Leaf, and Chevy Spark... while it's the younger folk finding solace in the larger cars of yesteryear. What an ironic flipping of the boat (so to speak)… but I'm happy to see it, and I'll take it for what it is. In a world where 20 and 30-something city hipsters cast an angry glare at older cars that are "wrecking the planet" (those are their words... not mine); it is refreshing to see other youngsters taking the opposite stand.
Good! We need people like that... and lots of them where we can find them. I salute you.

I thought your info was ok. There's still a lot of the "Cop Cars" info you're lacking. For instance, certain year and following it had certain things about them. Cluster, manual throttle, shocks, kevlar doors, trauma plate for both driver and passenger, just to name a few. Also crown vics been around since the 50's and of course, the Ford LTD. You're sound so you would know anything about that. Yes, there was the Mercury Marauder with 300 or so horse power, P71, P72 and the B version those were 250 horse power and the Crown Victoria Lx Sport was 239 horse power which very similar from the Marauder for it does have the center console floor shifter. However, the Crown Vic Lx would not have it for it must be the Sport package with the spoiler, leather seat along with other goodies. Until then...

Too bad we're seeing no new Crown Vic's, I see a lot of Police using SUV's more now. You probably could soup your Crown Vic up some, maybe a belt-driven supercharger. I had a former police interceptor, a 1970 Ford Custom 500 police interceptor with a 428 cobra jet engine, this car was used in Maine then in the 70's.
