I wonder what proportion of a US school's budget is spent on security costs, such as in-school police, bulletproof doors, drills, metal detectors, etc. At my grandsons' school in Queensland, security amounts to occasionally locking a window at night.
Every public high school in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, has metal detectors. Some but not all middle schools have them, but it's said that every scool will have them. People were upset about it, but it had to be done. I think the state, as well as the school budget, helped pay. I know they also applied for grants to fund the program. It's sad. As a UK citizen I find it bizarre and disturbing that a 14 year old can even access an AR-15 rifle and take it into his school. And that schools have to spend money not on books and stationery, etc., but on systems designed to prevent mass killings. I'm *so* glad I didn't have to grow up in such a country.
It's a real tragedy, and this person should not have had access to a firearm. But let's not pretend that this sort of violence doesn't happen in the UK. Witness the knife attack that killed three girls in Southport just back in July.
Passing red flag laws in Georgia would help prevent this type of thing. Turns out the kid had threatened the school previously, yet officials couldn't/didn't do a damn thing. After all, the Indianapolis NFL team is not named after guns, it is named after horses -- that is where this name originally came from.
It's sad. I never went through metal detectors when I went to school, but I would want them if I were in school today. You take care 🙂

Well Cowman, the US would like to have back the MILLIONS of firearms we sent to your little island back in the late 1930s and early 1940s to prevent Hitler from buggering you in the ass. You see, you guys had made the citizens turn in their firearms and your policeman carried little whistles. If the US hadn't given you firearms, you would have been very much like the Polish Army; trying to fight Hitler with sticks.
Apparently, the majority of Americans are very arrogant and they would never turn to another country for advice. Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and even Japan share your success.
Imagine if there was no locking mechanism in place. That kid was trying to get back to the room. It could have been much worse. That I have to get credit to whoever have those installed
Get rid of the guns, stupid.
How in the world did that tech work?? Four people are dead! I was a teacher for 31 years in Canada. Since 2009, we’ve had 2 school shootings. The US has had 289! What’s the difference? We have hurt kids too. We have lots of guns too (I grew up around them as well) but we also have a bunch of rules…training, application process, storing rules, age limits, types of guns. The laws DO work people. Please….vote BLUE and get these laws passed.
Even your two are way to many. But almost 300? It's like Americans love the false and fleeting feeling of "empowerment" far more than their own children...
So stupid, just get rid of the guns!
VERY SAD ONLY PEOPLES CAN PRAY 🙏🏼 AT SCHOOLS AFTER TRAGEDY.
We should require the NRA to place the system that locked the doors and saved students and teachers in every school. It is no different than the cigarette companies pay for medical care.
Show me where cigarettes are protected from government interference in the Constitution?
For God's sake, just got rid of the dam guns!
I agree
That's a flawed argument.
@@rickdworsky6457 What is a "Dam gun"? Some kind of river water deflection device?
" Father of Georgia school shooting suspect told investigators he purchased gun as holiday present for son, sources say
"
Who in their right mind buy a gun for their 14 years old children let alone an AR as a birthday present?!?!?
They also just arrested the father
Republican politicians like MTG and bobert pausing their kids with assault rifles on Christmas cards
Why don’t the US banned guns.? This is awful and should have never happened if the gun law was different
Because the Republican party values civilian gun ownership *FAR* more than it values the lives of anyone, including children. Unless or until Republican values change or they lose an overwhelming amount of political power, the Constitution cannot be changed, which means that guns won't be banned.
Don't know what country you are from, but the U.S. has a Constitution. In that Constitution the right of the people to keep and bear arms is enumerated. I do commend you however for not being one of the MILLIONS of ILLEGAL immigrants that have shown up here in the US hoping to get a free ride on the tax dollars of citizens.
I'm sure the criminals will abide.
These safeguards against gun violence work every time
"Colt " is the name of a gun. Speaks poorly of the parents.
Speaks worse for the gun manufacturing industry. Bastards.
Surely he wasn’t named after a baby horse!
A colt is a young male horse -- and deriving from that, it's been used as a common male name that dates back to the earliest days of the U.S. The "Colt" of firearms fame has a similar derivation, but is even older, dating back to Medieval England, where it became a popular surname. It was coincidentally the surname of the Colt company's founder, Samuel Colt. I do not believe that we can leap to assumptions that the boy's name is firearm inspired, as the name is just very popular -- it has been in top lists among all American boys for many years now. After all, the Indianapolis NFL team is not named after guns, it is named after horses -- that is where this name originally came from. We shouldn't reach to find data that fits our preconceived notions. It is enough to say that this child committed a horrible act, and authorities need to look further to find out why.
Marjorie Taylor Greene congresswoman of Georgia doesn't support gun laws that might curtail killings like this
You her spokesperson?
Quit saying that you are Sorry for what they are going through . Stand up and stand firm against gun violence . We need better Gun legislation not thoughts and prayers . Quit banning Books and Drag queens and do something about the Gun violence in our Schools !!!
Access to a firearm is immaterial when responding to written death threats. Can’t be debated, obviously.
Jesus loves guns! Pew! Pew! Who needs kids? Praise the NRA.
It didn't protect the two children that died
Armed guards at school, metal detectors...nothing more important than children..
So, GET RID OF THE GUNS, dummy.
@Pojo-tq4zkhow many guards? A lot of the school shootings happened at schools that already had armed guards.
this is sad and very sad - but come on as this is a weekend, like every weekend total in Chicago
Big thumbs down to this interviewer for REFUSING to address the real issues concerning mass shootings anywhere and everywhere in our communities.
Colettenewton what are those big issues no one is talking about...gun control?😅
What did she "REFUSE" to address?
@@UtoniumJock The phrase gun control is inflammatory. Might I suggest responsible gun ownership. Friends and I talk of these things a lot.
I would like to see the face of that monster.
Condolences 😢
The Sheriff Department is at fault here also!! 🔮
The gun industry, fool.
The school shootings in America are our worst moments, nothing to be proud of...
Still why did the FBI not dig deeper or keep an eye on this kid? Did the new school know about his threats?
Why haven't we stopped the gun industry?
This just has TO END!
By getting rid of guns.
@@rickdworsky6457 exactly! If that were only possible! Vote 💙and it's a start!
It ends with us.
Technology like that shouldn't exist in schools. America, grow up.
My thoughts are with everyone affected.
Every school in America should have this system NOW! This is what it comes down to! Sad, tragic ,😥
