@J... And we all knows that the "invenctor" of mma was Bruce
@J i think you are too young. (And i wrote "invenctor" so)
@J(... and i think you mean "Gracie Jitsu"...)
This is horse shit. This movie is bulshit about Bruce Lee. I see why Shannon Lee is so upset and wants to sue them because it doesn't portray his her father at all. The fighting is bullshit to Bruce would never even fight like that. And then noise that he makes when he make some move doesn't even sound like Bruce lee.
@Loafy you do realize that mma(mixed martial arts) is more than just grappling yea, Helio knew a few different styles of grappling but that was still in that realm, whereas Bruce Introduced the idea of mixing several styles of martial arts both grappling styles and Stand up styles together...Now mind you Bruce was only one of the many who contributed to mma, He was just the most recognized and famous for putting out there. Either way you look at it though this portrayal of Bruce is very laudable at best, He was definitely cocking but he also had the skill and know how to back it up. I'm sure there were many people who could have challenged Bruce, however I dont think Bruce would have fought this way. He himself has even said he wouldnt ever get that fancy in a real fight. He would stress, how important simplicity is and how important it is to not waste energy. Bruce was a tactician, he wasnt just a fighter for show.
With glasses: 99% Bruce Lee
Takes off glasses: 50% Bruce Lee
Starts fighting : 0% Bruce Lee
I agree. Once he took the glasses off, the spell was broken, he just didn't have the eyes. And all the standard Bruce Lee noises at the inappropriate time were just contrived.

@@MrZillasBruce Lee was an actor who was never in a real fight in his life. And he was smart enough never to step in the ring with Muhammad Ali. He knew he would've been picking his own teeth up off the floor in the first round.
@@Emlizardo again somebody who thinks he was just a actor, he was a real martial artist who used real techniques that work irl.
@@younoa8783 And "martial artists" are famous for getting their asses kicked in competitions with brawlers with no formal training at all. People who think Bruce Lee was some kind of superhuman fighting machine, with his "one inch punch" and other nonsense, are fooling themselves. Lee wouldn't have lasted a single round against Ali. Tarantino's scene is based on fact - a stuntman once humiliated Lee on-set by carrying him around on his back, while Lee kicked and screamed like a baby.
@@Emlizardo muay thai is the most common and powerful martial art in MMA and your saying it wouldn't work against an untrained person? Bruce lee understood what works and dosen't in wing chun and wasn't a fake martial artist and blended different ones together which makes one of the first people to create MMA. Lee himself said that Alis big hands would break him compared to his small hands, Sure Ali could beat him in a ring, but on the street ali cant kick and there's no gloves, it would favor in bruce lee more. Also I cant find where your scene is when I search it up?, bruce lee was nice toward stuntman and a lot of former stuntman have said bruce never hit them and if he didn't he would apologise.

Trippin' Balls . . . .
Of course some broad comes in and spoils everyone's fun.
My interpretation of the scene was that is was an unreliable narrator moment. Cliff was thinking of this moment when he was up on the roof and was remembering it in a way to make him look better. I was disappointed to hear Tarantino's explanation of it though, it wasn't that clever.

This scene is worth the whole movie.
Let's be honest, Tarantino WANTED people to be angry about this scene
its called Once Upon a time in Hollywood. its not real
Tarantino's entire ''business model'' as a director is: ripping off older, better movies and creating some BS controversy in the media.
@Joe Dick Seriously? Every movie he releases has some BS controversy going on. Inglorious Basterds had some people whining around, because he supposedly ''made fun out of WWII, the Holocaust etc.''
Django Unchained, had Spike Lee getting his panties in a bunch, because they used the ''N''-word in a movie that took place during the old South/slavery-period.
Pretty much every other of his movies,is accused of ''glorifying violence & being sexist'' bla bla bla...
In reality, he's a hack, who can only rip-off older, better movies. ''Reservoir Dogs'' has main plotline & entire scenes,ripped-off from Ringo Lam's ''City on Fire'', just to name one example.
So, for this movie, he couldn't piss off the black community anymore (not in the current politically correct climate), so he he decided to piss off the Asians and turn Bruce Lee into a bad SNL skit.
@Joe Dick it’s clear Tarantino likes to pull legs. Common you don’t need to research about it.. it’s just common sense. That’s what makes him so cool
@Joe Dick he said in an interview that he personally knew Bruce Lee was arrogant and he said things that wouldn’t mean much like he could beat up Mohammad Ali and stuff. Tarantino made it clear that he is not all what he says he is. But this scene doesn’t say much since he created a character that could beat up Lee. So, whatever Bruce says before that.. all those things he brags that he is great about is just bragging that he often does as per Tarantino.

@@brianshaker1885 source? Because if anything it was usually someone in the stage crew who would challenge him
He’s talking about a stunt coordinator who worked with Bruce. Yes, Bruce used to tag the stunt men but it wasn’t due to a lack of professionalism, that’s how they worked in Hong Kong. It’s a tale of 2 different cultures. In America, actors are pansies, they never do their own stunts. In Hong Kong, everyone did their own stunts back in the 60’s. Look at some of the stunts Michelle Yeoh did back in the day. The scene where she’s swinging off the side of a bus. @@gerjaison That's because you need to have a degree in Cardiology to be become a Cardiologist, not a heart attack. If Bruce Lee is a fighting icon then where are his fights? It's like saying Mike Tyson got recognized as a fighter
from his movies and and sparring videos, not from his ACTUAL fights. Bruce Lee, for me, is no other than a stuntman/actor/exhibitionist, not a fighter. Sry for bad eng.
@Terrell Bone there are literaly videos of him fighting and he is the founder of jeet kune doo

wesleypipes lol seriously, what is the joke ??!?
@Prithu Funny you say that. This scene made a community of Asian incels extremely angry. What you see in the comment section is not white male gloating but instead shitposters poking fun at the outrage this scene caused.
@Prithu why do they have to be right wing? I mean theres incels everywhere despite they being incels or not
Because the right wing typically appeals to that crowd.
This whole movie is strange but I like it
Oh my gosh the directors reaction at the end 🤣. I'm in fits.
Most people miss the point about WHY the scene is actually disrespectful. It isn't about if Bruce Lee was an actual fighter or not. It is about Bruce Lee bringing martial arts and Kung Fu movies to the USA. Without Bruce Lee there is no Tarantino, yet he wants to tarnish his legacy just for kicks.
Nope. Lee was suppose to have had a reputation for going too far with stuntmen.
Back then everyone who knew Bruce Lee and worked with him, said Bruce was a great and wonderful guy. Once upon a time in Hollywood is a movie about what happens in another universe.
You answered my question thanks.
It is taken out of context but he did work with gene labelle legendary stuntman/ judo badass who Bruce lee highly respected and later became a student of to learn grappling from and vice versa gene went to learn from Bruce.
This is the only thing we know gene labelle worked on green hornet as well.
And we know what gene labelle did to Steven seagal years later so if bruce acted up there's no doubt in my mind gene would of muddied the waters.
shizloner Yeah ok...
@@robsmith6650 yeah totally bro!
According to LeBell, Lee was a working stiff on the set of The Green Hornet but was kicking the shit out of the stuntmen. They couldn’t convince him that he could go easy and it would still look great on film. The show’s stunt coordinator, Bennie Dobbins, needed a ringer to deal with Lee, so he called in Judo Gene.
LeBell says when he got to the set, Dobbins told him to put Lee “in a headlock or something.”
So LeBell went up and grabbed Lee. “He started making all those noises that he became famous for,” LeBell said, “but he didn’t try to counter me, so I think he was more surprised than anything else.”
Then LeBell lifted Lee onto his back in what’s called a fireman’s carry and ran around the set with him.
“Put me down or I’ll kill you!” Lee screamed.
“I can’t put you down or you’ll kill me,” LeBell said, holding Lee there as long as he dared before putting him down, saying, “Hey, Bruce, don’t kill me. Just kidding, champ.”
Back on his feet again, Lee didn’t kill LeBell. Instead, Lee recognized that the lack of grappling was a deficiency in the Jeet Kune Do style of martial arts he was developing. So Lee trained with LeBell for a little over a year with LeBell showing Lee armbars, leg locks and takedowns, and Lee schooling LeBell in kung fu kicks.
After training with LeBell, Lee incorporated grappling moves into his film fighting. He finishes off Chuck Norris with a chokehold in Way of the Dragon (1972) and beats a young Sammo Hung with an armbar in Enter the Dragon (1973).
Bruce Lee did actually talk about what would happen if he fought Mohamad Ali. He said that even with all his skill, Mohamad Ali would make quick work of him because he was simply much larger with more strength and reach than Bruce Lee.
Of course that would make for a less entertaining movie scene, but it's worth noting that the real Bruce Lee, while he talked a big game, wasn't as arrogant as this version.
Yeah I've seen a lot of Bruce Lee interviews and he never comes off cocky --- usually a humble dude who knows he can't beat guys much bigger than him like Ali or even Kareem
@@fredwerza3478 but can certainly beat guys who don't know how to fight, largely regardless of weight
@@mythicslash3734 eh. Define know how to fight. Because it doesnt take much for a 200lb dude to just get a grip on him and slam him
@@vegetaintherain6354 Bruce lee:oh shit your re the actor who played in Godzilla costume
One key thing to remember about this scene:
This is Cliff’s recollection of events after remembering what Rick told him about the gaffer for Lancer being the same guy who did it for Green Hornet. So he’s just remembering Bruce a different way than others would.
Tarantino is basically calling Bruce Lee a hack in this scene..LOL
Tarantino is a hack.

Lots of Bruce Lee stans in their feelings
You don't have to "in your feelings" to plainly see this was maliscious.
It’s funny. I remember reading a book about Bruce Lee in high school. The one thing I specifically remember from that book was him talking about his extreme admiration for Cassius Clay and saying-when asked-that he’d have no chance against Clay in a real fight because of the size disadvantage. That’s the one specific thing I remember from the book 20 years later 🤣
What’s the book called?
people also dont know that bruce style of dancing around he learnt it from Ali with his foot work.
This was a movie, I love Bruce Lee but this scene was fantastic.
Lee tipped the scales at a "buck - thirty five", no chance is right !...
Even Mike Tyson(one of the greatest and most renowned boxers of all time) himself said that Ali would beat him in a boxing match, that he was the greatest of all time, and "Every head must bow and every tongue must confess." Sooooooo....

Perfect take by Brad Pitt's character. There is a reason we have weight classes. 2 professional fighters in the ring with 100lbs difference isn't going to bode well for 120 lbs 'er.
@Ajax the whole point of the conversation was the Bruce Lee character saying he'd cripple Ali. Can you imagine Bruce Lee getting into the ring with 20 year old Tyson? Bruce couldn't generate enough power at 120 lbs to stop that freight train.
@Ajax true, but Bruce's character said he'd cripple Ali...that's the point. I said "2 professional fighters " in original comment.
@Ajax I'm a Bruce fan too. I don't think Bruce was that full of himself as portrayed. He was a master tactician and studied boxing ( as you know). I doubt the real Bruce Lee would make such remarks
@Ajax Bruce Lee was overrated. He never competed professionally. He'd easily get decimated by a novice boxer/MMA guy.

A Oh I’m not lying dude, I like him he was a pioneer for martial arts and a great martial artist, I don’t like the fans that are deluded though. The videos of him sparring don’t show any supernatural speed he’s fast but not insanely fast. Lee was a philosopher first not a fighter as were most great martial artists and that’s fine but I don’t get why people think he would destroy anyone in a fight, the brutal truth is that he’d likely be pieced apart by a MMA fighter a very traditional martial artist isn’t successful in real fights.
