    I was hynotized years ago to quit smoking. The doctor was really sick with a cold at the time and he was about 85 years old. I didn't think there was any chance it would work. He practically fell asleep before I did. LOL Anyway, I left there and have never thought about smoking ever again. Even on the worst days it never occurs to me to light up. That was 15 years ago.

    That was delightful! My uncle was an engineer who also had a great interest in hypnosis and hypnotized me a few times as a child (10-12.) I remember one session, he said he had a long piece of string and was tying one end around my left wrist and that there was a deflated balloon at the other end of the string. And that with each inhale I took the balloon would fill and the air within the balloon would react like helium and causing the balloon and subsequently my hand to raise. Higher and higher with each breath. Until my arm was raised straight over head. I remember the session ending and my folks were so tickled by the whole experience and I was amazed by it.
    That’s such a beautiful core memory.
    It was wonderful to observe the practice in this session. Thank you, both.

    Thank you so much for making this video Rickson. I am 57 years old and the game has changed. I was very aggressive younger Muay Thai and Bjj fighting...... now my neck hurts and my joints are sore. So now I do lots of Yoga 🧘‍♂️ :-)
    I roll rarely as the people I know are too aggressive and that's okay I've had a good time I don't need to hurt myself. And I can protect myself just with the look on my face, my demeanor and if a fight breaks out I'm calm and feel capable still - Train with people that just want to roll at an equal pace and if they're not on the same page as you just don't do it.
    But I always practice Jiu Jitsu in my life - it's not just fighting. Thank you :-)

    Your shoulders being level is likely related to your right side lower back pain. When you sit and lean to one side there are small muscles which become pinched and trigger what is sometimes severe lower back pain. I always used to sit with a lean but sitting straight up, in addition to taking a few 10-20 minute walks per day, assuming you are often sedentary, helped me more than anything. The best solutions are often the simplest ones.

      @hubermanLabclips. First question about hypnosis. Can this be a treatment for mental distress? i.e. I have a friend who is a pacifist to the point of not being able to be around anyone who challenges him in anyway. He says he is 'broken' and runs away. He is 65. He also sees this as totally normal, but knows that has impacted his romantic relationships. If you try to address what he means by broken, it becomes worse. So although he says he wants to talk, he really wants to justify and tell the other person why they are bad. A viscious circle. Two questions: 1. Rather than years of therapy, can hypnosis be used to change the perception of broken into something like say: might make him laugh when he says it? If so, 2. Where does one find a reputable hypnotist in their local area?

    I also found it particularly humorous that he seemed genuinely surprised at a lot of Dr Huberman's responses and perceptions.

    Is there an element here of the subject wanting to please the person performing the hypnosis? I’m not hypnotizable that I know of but when I’ve had anyone attempt it I’ve always felt an immense pressure to “go along with it” or pretend it’s working when I’m still conscious. Does this happen to people who are hypnotizable?

    • @gretajane802
      @gretajane802 8 місяців тому

      Hypnotizability is a spectrum. If you are not easily hypnotizable you can learn how to do it. You have to remember that you are in control. You have to want to get into the hypnogogic state. It kinda like when you are on the verge of sleep. I was not easily hypnotized, but I read books on self-hypnosis and practiced and do it on myself. So useful for fixing my issues. I fixed some serious OCD issues!

    What I'm about to say is going to sound like I'm doubting, but I'm just surprised. I have a hard time believing Andrew Huberman was able to be Hypnotized that fast and also into such a disoriented state. I think trust must be a key factor in Hypnosis because that's a lot of power to have over someone, especially as quizzical as Mr. Huberman.

    • @gamingboi4376

      You state "a lot of power to have over someone" but in reality Dr. David Spiegel is simply a guide. Think of it like learning the piano you could have the best teacher and still learn nothing if you don't follow the instructions. Hypnosis is like that where all hypnosis is self-hypnosis.

Hearing the previous podcast on how hypnosis works and its efficacy made me wonder if that is why Ego State Therpy is so effective and quicker than talk therapy or CBT (cognitive behavior therapy).
