Gangrel almost had me in tears. You could tell he really loved her and leaving her was the hardest thing he had to do. I am glad hes in a good place because he was such a nice guy when I met him several years ago.
Loved his OG Impaler DDT finisher on Shotgun. Shame Vince had him nerf it early-on. Gangrel is the most hardcore vampire-wrestler 👍.

I met him and I told him how much I admired Luna and how much I respected her as a woman and as a superstar. I told him how much I felt she was COMPLETELY underappreciated and that if anyone needed to show appreciation and respect for Luna, SABLE should be kissing her ass for the push she gave her!
His response.....he said if she was here and I told her this....she would be in TEARS because of how touched she'd feel. He is such a sweetheart and he has my respect 100000%

I still remember the story about X-Pac bitching that Luna got a 6 rating for strength in the WWF Raw game while Kid only got a 4. Seeing as how Waltman was built like Kate Moss back then it was accurate, if anything giving him a 4 was probably being generous.
Plus I can well imagine that Luna was fucking strong. Not Chyna strong but a fuckton stronger than the likes of Sable, Kat or Debra

She was a very interesting, but ultimately, a very tragically doomed woman😒 she had many facets to her life, including her marriage to 'Gangrel' Dave Heath, which I didn't know of until about a year ago when he was interviewed

Luna is so overlooked as a tremendous influence in women’s wrestling. Folks usually recall the 💩 with Sable. They forget what a great valet she was, she could cut a good promo, she could work, and she was smart…she was a freaking genius to be able to make Sable look decent. I was always such a Luna fan, and I am happy Dark Side of the Ring highlighted her and how great she was in the ring. It also shed light on why she was such a tortured soul and felt the need to self medicate.

Always thought Luna and Sherri from 93 was an underrated program. The big cat fight on Raw where Sherri got her revenge from Mania was a cool early Raw moment.

That episode was something else. Welcome amount of actual wrestling content. Freaking tragic. As the episode ending emphasised, if only the women's division had reached what it is now while Luna was in the ring. Imagine her with Rhea Ripley, Charlotte Flair or Britt Baker. Also glad to see her son, Van. He was on Hell's Kitchen and ended up making a good career in the culinary industry. You can see aspects of Luna's intensity in him.

Luna would be retired by now but she could have done great things with Trish, Lita, Molly, Victoria, Gail and Jazz. She already worked some with Ivory and Jackie. She just missed that golden era.

It broke my heart to hear no one gave Luna appreciation at WrestleMania for doing what she did for Sable during that match. And like Brian, I first saw her at WM9 and was terrified.
That was such bullshit. They wanted her to go out there and make Sable look strong and to not scratch her up. She did exactly that. Scumbags.

Van wasnt just on Hells Kitchen. He is probably the most popular contestant ever on the show. Guy has a magnetic personality and is a hell of chef. He got robbed in his second season.

Yeah I watched the episode and thought I know I've seen him before and when jim said it my mind was blown
Yeah that was BS when he was eliminated the second time. He nailed it all season and had one mediocre night on the fish station and got eliminated. Only because he's an expert in cooking fish, so was judged more harshly. He was far better than most of the remaining contestants.
The most annoying thing was Luna not being acknowledged after her match with Sable. That's another entry in Satan's Book of Charges against Vincent Kennedy McMahon.
Also, she was dedicated to and in love with a business that wasn't in love with her.
Like Bret Hart and the ones who grew up and worked the business like Cornette. Just Bret would go on about it far too much we get what he's on about but he just needed to put it to bed once and for all

I Learned something new while watching this Episode of Dark side of the Ring I had no idea that Luna was Canadian and I enjoyed her Pairing with Gangrel it Added to Gangrel's Gimmick and this Artwork of Gangrel and Luna looks awesome props to Coyote Duran.

I was surprised the episode completely skipped the Royal Rumble '99 story.
Dave Heath (Gangrel) is a dude I have really grown to like in the last couple of years. I have seen multiple interviews that he has done, and he always comes across as humble, honest, and genuinely seems to be a decent human being. I have really been impressed by him, and I hate it that he was never given a chance to get a run at the top, because he seems to be a really good person.
I think in the Attitude era it was hard to get to the top because it was so competitive and he was never going to be a top guy in the WWE with that gimmick but yeah he could have at least got a short IC or European title run but I remember him losing all his matches for title shots. They wouldnt even let him beat X Pac for the European title, I think that match was on Smackdown IIRC. I always hear rumors about how Vince McMahon didnt like the gimmick and Russo was the one pushing it.
On top of that, he has among the most underappreciated pieces of music Jim Johnston has ever made

She wanted to downplay that and have people focus on the action and the story being told in the ring not some beauty pageant! She was above being a Diva. She was a proper wrestler and an all around Tough Lady. She is the only woman I have ever seen on Tv that made me actually believe she could go toe to toe with a grown man in a fist fight and WIN! I completely understand why she didn't accept Madusa's most gracious offer. She wanted a true title run where the title had been given to her by the promoter. She didnt want to steal the title for one night of glory only to be stripped and never booked again!

Great comparison. That's who she reminded me of. I just watched the program they are discussing and it was the first time I'd ever seen Luna Vachon. It was seeing Hell's Kitchen with her son Van that made me seek this out.
I love who they interview for these episodes. It's not the best known people who knew the subject but the people who knew the subject best or at least the ones willing to talk about it. Dark Side has more respect for wrestling than most
That's what I like about it, they don't glamorise or over dramatise everything, they just let people tell their stories.
Best example of this was getting Scott Norton on for the North Korea episode. I literally only remembered him from the WCW vs. NWO World Tour game as the dude who looked like he was screaming at someone in his character selection screen lmfao...but he was there and had a ton of crazy shit happen to him on that trip so I'm glad Vice interviewed him

That episode gave me a new appreciation for her. She freaked me out as a kid and she didn't really have much of an opportunity to work when I got older.
I wish Luna could have stayed in WWE a little longer to wrestle some of the girls around 2003. She could have had some great matches with Molly, Lita, Ivory, and Jazz.
I am glad Corney talked about that incident about Paul Vachon marrying the widow. That was the weirdest thing I ever heard. Why did she knock on his door?? Also, I wish they could talk more about Vivian Vachon, who I found out died at 40 in a car wreck. Good show.
Good episode. Mostly remember Luna when she managed Bull Nakano and Bam Bam. She could cut a promo, work in the ring and had a great look. She reminded me of Sherri Martel because they cut great promos and they were so intense in and outside the ring. Like Kanyon, was sad to she what she had went thru in her career. But I appreciate VICE for these documentaries as it sheds light on what they went thru and gives new generation of fans a chance to know what they've done for the business.
Luna was always one of my favorite wrestlers! It is really sad that it took this long for her to get the recognition she deserved, but she definitely earns every bit of praise that she has had heaped upon her in the past few years!

Vachon underwent 40 treatments, one on each week day for five straight weeks, to overcome the throat cancer. In addition, he had the disease burned out of his tonsils and his teeth were removed. I always liked watching Luna while growing up because she was different. That's not disrespectful because I'm different myself. This was the only episode I was looking for with Dark Side of the ring.
I've always liked Luna also. Wwe should of gave her the title.
She was just in the wrong time but it's tragic that so many champions have talked about their belts as props or whined about having to lug them around airports whereas Luna REALLY wanted to be champion ... and she would've been an EXCELLENT champion.

Ive been thinking about wrestling families for a while and I think there might be some co-relation between the dissapearance of lineage, the markish attitud of nowadays cosplay wrestlers and the decline of the business.
@@renatocontrerasflores294 You make a good point. I’m generally not a fan of nepotism, but in places where you see a lot of it there’s usually an emphasis on traditions. The 2nd and 3rd generation wrestlers do often have a certain reverence for those. On the other hand, it’s not always a perfect transfer of values, as Cody shows.
I did not Know Van was Luna's son he was one of my favorite contestants on Hell's Kitchen.

Always remember hearing the story about one of her matches, it might have even been the one involving Sable, where the only person who stayed behind the curtain to congratulate Luna after the match was Owen Hart.
The first time I ever saw or heard of Luna was when she appeared in the WWF as Bam Bam Bigelow's "main squeeze". Bam Bam scared me alone as a kid. I'd never seen someone with a tattooed skull before. Then out came Luna Vachon with her own crazy headwork and the "There is no Dana, only Zuul" voice. I believed that these two people were what they appeared to be.
Trivia: Luna was the first female to appear in a wrestling video game as a fully playable character.

I was on an Indy show once with her years ago, and I was standing in front of the Gorilla position when she was about to go out and she scolded me for it. I NEVER did that again . It's simply locker room etiquette that I learned the hard way and never forgot!

Just something to the effect that when someone's getting ready to go out for their match you shouldn't stand in their way or something like that. I apologized and never did that again! Maybe I wasn't paying attention but it's just one of those things you learn from veterans and try to pass it along to the next generation of kids in the business. But today's ' wrestlers' are know- it- all's and brats so why even try..?! Ha. Once in awhile they'll be a kid who gets it and wants to learn the business but for the most part it's a whole new generation or just simply don't get the concept of pro wrestling in my opinion
Luna Vachon was way ahead of her time. She was ready for the Divas Revolution/Women’s Evolution but, it wasn’t ready for her like Lita, Trish Stratus, Beth Phoenix just to name a few.

Probably the best episode this season. Learned a lot of stuff I didn’t know before. I feel like too many episodes of the season are about stuff that everyone knows every detail about already. Like the plane ride from hell, or the North Korean show.
Luna Vachon was the first licensed female wrestler in video games... It was like someone knew she was bankable AND believable.

I met Luna in the mid 90s and she was with Gangrel before he was Gangrel. She almost kicked my ass for knowing too much of the business at the time. Not the best meet and greet. But I respect the fact she was protective over the business. R.I.P. LUNA

Huge shame with Luna, the whole documentary was fantastic and it was an extremely sad story but what an inspiration for women wrestlers in the business, Luna was a fantastic talent who never got to show us what she could do on the big stage. We should all feel robbed by the WWF/E.

Just another example of how great Owen was.
They skipped the Daughters of Darkness part of her career, Loch & Luna. I was shocked to see that Van from Hell’s Kitchen is her son.
I remember seeing Luna when she was with Bam Bam Bigelow back when I was a kid during the 1993 Survivor Series. And Gangrel was an awesome manger with Edge and Chastain and later on with the Hardys.

Stop the dark side of the ring episode on UA-cam at 1:02 & 10:22. How awesome are those snapshots? Especially at 10:22, Kevin Sullivan vs Dusty Rhodes at the beginning and height of their epic Florida feud. I bet those are Bill Apter photos with his old camera from the 1970s. I'm always going to associate Luna as being the valet to Bam bam, and before that, the one who randomly got involved with Sherri in the midst of her fallout with Shawn Michaels.

Luna's best work was with Bam Bam. The stuff she did with Goldust was pretty good too. Women's wrestling in general back then was practically non-existent, but Luna was great in the valet role. She was given plenty to do.

On the topic of "Luna today": She'd be deemed too problematic and "not reliable" to be signed by the WWE because with today's internet, her shit would be everywhere so her having a top dollar career is unlikely.
