I never get tired of listening to Cornette. I’m sure he’s a lot happier with life now, but it’s almost a shame that he’s not involved in wrestling anymore in some capacity. His intellect and wittiness and knowledge of the business is unmatched

Gotta applaud both Jim and Bobby Eaton for their class. The former for calling Bobby to get his blessing, and the latter for knowing what it's like to fight for a spot on the card and not deprive two guys that opportunity.
In hindsight Bobby should have put up a fight it might have saved Bart Gunn and Bob Holly from being doomed under a gimmick that made zero sense.

I had honestly thought the NWA Invasion was Jim's idea. Because on the surface, it seemed like something within Him's wheelhouse.
The funny thing is, Bart Gunn and Bob Holly, with a manager cutting their promos, could have been a passable tag team act for that era, but calling them the Midnight Express doomed them from day 1.
How come they couldn't get Bobby, Stan, or at least Dennis Connedy?
Other than the Smokin Guns I don't recall them being called that.They did get split up soon after Bart Gunn did that boxing bit against Butterbean.

I loved the "NWA Invasion" in WWF angle of 1998. I couldn't get enough of it. I even had my buddy tape "Shotgun Saturday Night" so that I could see it. I had been done watching the WWF's programming (for years) until the NWA Invasion angle made me a regular viewer again. I stopped watching the WWF again after the NWA and Severn left, and I have never started watching that promotion's new material again. I also thought that the New Midnight Express were good NWA World tag team champions. I always thought that Cornette had a lot to do with those, and I always gave him credit where credit was due, but if Cornette doesn't want credit for some great stuff...
I also liked the NWA invasion too just unfortunately most matches were shit on by the wwf live fans chants of boring and silence most matches was met by ....its sad

I’m always impressed with Corny’s record keeping. That’s a lot of weeks and years.
That April 24th, 1998 Greenville, SC WWF show was at Furman University’s Timmons Arena. Memorial Auditorium had been demolished in 1997 and it’s replacement, the Bilo Center, would not open until September 1998.
I didn’t mind the NWA angle that much at the time, as honestly, the presentation sounds about as competent as a Crash TV era WWF angle can be when you break it down and analyze it. Even then you basically knew they weren’t trying to present the group as a threat to Austin, but like a lot of Attitude era stuff, it sounds like something that if you took it out of the context of that loaded show and put on TV in today’s climate would probably have a better result because of the way the show is structured. Back then, it was all short matches and onto the next angle.
Agreed they totally dropped the ball on Severn. I could see him and Corny working in a Brock/Heyman like way if they showed a bit of restraint with him.
WWF was full of those rushed 2 minute matches, so the NWA thing kind of blended with the rest of the blah.

I recently re-watched Austin stunning Sgt. Slaughter and then dropped and did push-ups. Austin's ad-libs were hilarious.

I was at that Fayetteville show. It was my first wrestling event ever and I still remember the New Midnight Express. Two drunks got in a fight during Rock and HHH’s match and Rock got on the mic to berate the crowd for not paying attention to him.
I bet that was a hell of a roast especially since Rock was a heel at the time.
