Great video Keegan 👌 I have tried to understand tss, ctl etc for years. When someone explains it like you have just done .... im like, yip, understand that. Then 2 days later I'm looking at it going 🤔😅😅😅
Excelente Kegga! Muy buena explicación. He visto “coaches” que no entienden TP y tratan de empujar al atleta a quemarse. Dicen “oh, esos números no importan” Keep up the good work, brother!
Gracias!! Resulta muyyy fácil prescribirle al atleta más y más carga y llega un día cuando están completamente quemados 😭😭 es cierto!! Allí nos puede ayudar TrainingPeaks!
Are you going to partake in the Virtual Pro Tour and/or the Grand Tour over on TrainingPeaks Virtual?! Would love to see you compete with everyone across the globe!
TrainingPeaks Virtual also has the Virtual Pro Tour (VPT) which is a season long points system very similar to UCI points in the real world 👍🏻 Varying stage races and classics all within the same virtual pro tour 🙌🏻🙌🏻
Damn Keegan, I had never seen you without a helmet and a glasses on! Barely recognized you! Good video btw! I'll reactivate my trainingpeaks account now, I deleted it because I did not understand 70% of the stats 🤣 (even when reading their docs)
Hahaha thus is the real me with no biking clothes on ;) That’s awesome that you are gonna get back in the TP ship! Glad I could help clear up a few things 😎👌🏻
Yo kega can we get a bike setup video? What’s tires u running / bar width / all the little gains. Sure you can rip up some climbs but are you doing it some some grandpa setup? I’d love to know.
@@PatrickJDicus I can try to do something like that! To be honest it’s not my best area if expertise, but it could be a great instigator for me to learn more ;)
While I believe it’s good to optimize ctl, you need a constraint function as well. In my opinion is you need to slowly ramp up ctl without dropping kj/week
I've found that every day off it takes 3 days to get back, when I take a week off it takes 21 days to get back to the same point. Gains are slow, but loses are rapid
keegan, i believe Coggan (who invented these metrics) never defined CTL has “fitness.” TP, Strava, and others made CTL a proxy for fitness. As you know, you can be unfit (for the demands of bike racing) with a high CTL and fit for the demands of cycling with a low CTL. Especially average people (non-professional) who train 10-15 or even 8-10 hrs a week. I think fitness and fatigue are not accurate reflections of CTL and ATL.
@ again learn how to read. CTL is not a proxy for fitness. example A. I train more than you; i did 12 hrs of z2. you did 6 hrs but 4 hard days and 2 easy. You will be faster. You can have a high CTL but still bot be fast. It’s the constitution of the CTL and it that becomes real relevant when doing non-pro hours of 8-13 hrs a week
@@itsok2023 Hey man, maybe your reading comprehension is low. If you train more, then you will get faster. CTL is one way to measure volume. The more volume you have the faster you will be. I included "training as hard" to cover that issue of training composition. Someone doing 20 hours per week at 50 watts isn't training as hard as someone doing 15 hours at 220. In the end, it depends on what you are training for, but people who train more will be better at what they train to do than people who don't put in as much work. It's a game of getting the most stimulus your body can recover from. People who don't have as much time to train will be able to train at a higher % average of their ftp than people with more time, but they shouldn't fool themselves into believing that what they are doing is what would make themselves fastest, they are just doing the best they can with the time they give themselves to train.
@@Henry-gv8gj "if you train more, you will get faster." Uh, so that's pretty obvious. Example A: I sit on the couch. You train. Who gets faster? DUH! we are past a rudimentary understanding of physiology. CTL is grounded in individual FTP. No shit. Which means it should be used against oneself. Example A: We both have 100 CTL. You have a 400 FTP. I have a 200 FTP. Who is faster? duh, no shit. The point i'm making and it's factual because I understand facts and you are clearly an idiot is that CTL and ATL are NOT proxies for Fitness and Fatigue. Period. To say they are is FAKE NEWS and shows that your understanding of 1st grade concepts is inept.
I know a track cyclist who got to 100 CTL over a few weeks of nothing but hard efforts and no easy riding whatsoever - they peaked *big* *time* for their event but were totally smoked. Getting to 100 on nothing but zone 2 is a lot more doable and sustainable, so the absolute numbers can be misleading. You have to look at them alongside the knowledge of how you got to those numbers.
Timely video! Thanks! I Just started using TP Pro a few weeks ago, and the metrics are helping me stay on track thru the cold US winter off season.
Mega!! I love to hear that 😎💪🏼keep at it and hopefully the worst of the winter is now behind us
Just here to say we're waiting for your next upload . 🤩😍
@@kkostovas it’s coming!!
very well said Keegan! these are confusing metrics for many people so it was a great idea to make a video about this.
Thx Kegga! In my eyes all this talk about TP and all these different variables is all but a money grab. Keep up the great videos and send it!!!
@@tripleb7232 thanks mate! And yeeee it very well could be a money grab 😅
Thanks for the video Ive just started using TP for the last 9Weeks thinking I’m going backwards but I’m actually moving my fitness up nicely
Word!! 😎😎 keep on grinding upwards!
Great info Keegan! Just have to figure out age related numbers. Enjoying your straight forward no BS presentations.
Thanks so much!!
Enjoyed all the info! Keep on truckin!

You don’t know how bad I needed this video, I signed up for TP a few weeks ago but had no idea what those numbers meant lol, very helpful video bro.
Unreal good timing!! Love to hear this :) Hope the video helps!

Yeeeee I agree. The slow ramp up seems to make the form more stable and last longer
Also not forgetting that these numbers depend on accuracy of the FTP value in training peaks, and also accuracy of power meter!
Facts brother facts!

Facts they sadly go away quickly :(
Do you lose a lot of watts when your chain is dead?
I’d imagine yes 😅😅😅
do you ever plan training based off intensity factor ?
At times yea!
At times yea! It can help too
Are you chasing the mythical double peak this season?
Hahaha idk mate 😅 I gotta try and be really good in August and the rest of the year at a good level

People who train more will usually be faster than people who train less unless they are less talented or aren't training as hard

Totally agree! Ctl has to be ‘built’ in the right way to be flying.
