      It requires a room to make echo. This is why strymon calls it a "bigsky"... sky = firmament... - research what firmament means. It is a room, not space... (ancient calls it "a world")

    Thank you for another great demo and review, this time on the RE-202 Space Echo. I've been fortunate enough to be on this Great Planet over 3/4 of a century now, so I have the benefit of using some of the original Tape Echo offerings (back in the 60's), and have that history to fall back on when researching today's offerings in search of recreating my favorite sounds. I stumbled across this pedal when I was reading Sweetwater's History of the JC-120, prompting a search based on some information mentioned there, and immediately put it on my wish list. This demo and review has answered most of my questions and reservations about buying when they are in stock at Sweetwater. Thank you again, Mitch, for another fantastic presentation. Looking forward to more of the same in the future.

    Finally got my RE-202 and thought I'd just share this. I really wanted to be able to use the reverb by itself, which you can do, but only if you turn the echo volume down MANUALLY. My hope was that when I switch off the delay, the reverb could still be on regardless of echo volume or any other settings. I'm sure there is some sort of hack by using the presets or something but this is disappointing as I always leave reverb on. If anyone has a solid workaround, let me know!

    I had the original Roland Space Echo in the mid 70s and I didn’t really like it then. I’m not impressed with it now either. I’ve had the much simpler real taped based EchoPlex which was much more user friendly I thought. At that time. Though I have to admit this new one is a much smaller size which makes it much easier to find a space for it.
    Besides there are analog and digital delays that do much of the same w still less space taking up.

      Hi, Nathan! Thanks for your message, hope you're well and safe.
      The on/off for the device controls the echo and reverb. The Memory switch with a long press determines if the reverb is active or not. If the Echo volume is counterclockwise only reverb is output. With the four memory slots, you could program combinations with both or either effect. The manual is available at the Roland site.

      The old RE-20 can do this if the external pedal is set to 'Echo Level' - even if it is a sustain pedal (i.e. on/off). It seems this is not possible with the RE-202 and for me that's reason enough to send it back. A solution via memory slots would be too cumbersome. I want to use the reverb throughout and highlight some parts with a delay - for context, I play keyboards in Reggae and Dub.

    I imagine I could (and should) send each of the 2 output signals and send those signals to tow separate amps....and place the amps apart from each other..for a stereo presence.

      Hello, great question! The RE-202 does not have a mic preamp built in so it would be best to connect it to the effects loop of a mixer. That would also allow you to easily switch between the vocal and saxophone, as well.
      Give us a call if you need help finding the right mixer. Thanks!

    • @lostreb
      @lostreb 2 роки тому +2

      Vendors (aka Sweetwater) get "advance products" to test and review and "promote" "before" the product actually arrives for public / consumer purchases. I think in advertising, it's called promoting, I prefer "hyping," the product!! That's why Mitch / Sweetwater has a pedal to promote to generate future sales and creating an interest for purchasers to "Pre-Order" the product (under the pretense of order this now since this is on back-order, in this case awaiting arrival, so you can be assured you'll be one of the first to get this when it arrives)! I "think" it's called "marketing" by the manufacturer (with zero regard to how much it may P*$$ off the potential purchasers). I totally understand your comment. I just wanted to "add" to your question / frustration about why a product is being promoted / reviewed when it is not available for purchase!! I've had this same complaint about Sire guitars for over a year now!!!!

      Ok they have sales reports in black and white which indicate how relevant they are. They are still the measuring stick, the standard to which the others are held. Like vanilla ice cream may not be the most flavorful but it sells the most and is the basis of comparison for all other flavors. Shelves are packed with said vanilla and there is enormous demand. Keep in mind, the “Twist” and “Warp” buttons are all but useless, because they are 10x the volume of the dry signal. When they kick in, they way overpower whatever your original signal is. Also, the reverb has ONE KNOB, “level” - you can increase or decrease the reverb. THATS IT. in short, you can get a used delay and reverb pedal for half the cost of this,and get 10x the usefulness out of them. I waited 7 months for mine (on back order most of 2020). Man, am I disappointed!
