Folks, he didn't have to give us his Phil Collins impression... but he did. He went the extra mile and did that for us. And you're goddamn right I hit that Like button immediately afterwards.
Great demo Pete, this sounds incredible - I can't believe we got the re-2, re-202 and the dl4-ii in one week. That enclosure makes me think a ce-1 re-issue has to be on the cards. Hats off BOSS, you are nailing it.
I'm so glad to see that Boss/Roland has stepped up with a pedal that truly models what those old tape units really did. I used to use both a Space Echo and an Echoplex (my true love as far as tape units go), and I can tell ya that those things truly did make the tone coming out of the amp fatter, even when the echo unit was not being used.
You knocked it out of the park again. Your old El Capistan demo made me look deeper into that one, and I eventually bought the thing. Now, I have to get this one. And the little brother, the RE-2.
A while back, you turned me onto the Redrocks distortion pedal. That has become an integral part of my rig. Now, when I'm trying to decide between a Strymon Timeline and an RE 202, you seal the deal for the 202. Thanks again Pete!
This intro song is straight from True Blood then all of a sudden we take a ride on an 80’s soap opera… chillin on a cruise liner! Love it! Great pedal, great demo
Unobtainium becomes a pedal and Pete Thorn delivers his usual kick@ss demo of what used to be unobtainium. Love it and I'm a huge Brian Setzer & Rockabilly fan so I'm ordering one right now from Sweetwater. Thanks, Pete - You Rock the Spice, Man!
Always amazes me the amount of inventive thought, experimentation and sheer ingenuity that goes into creating these bits of kit that have almost unlimited possibilities is mind blowing and just shows what an an amazing thing the human brain is.
This is the first video of yours that I’ve seen and everything about this demo is exceptional (obviously the pedal) but your playing, analysis & review are superb too. Got a new subscriber!
As always Pete, a great demo on every level, and have to say, this pedal sounds fantastic, and Boss did an incredible job revamping it in 2020s fashion! Kudos to Boss and you! I'm with you about a desert island effect: delay without hesitation.
that was my first thought as far as design wise sound wise ive never owned a strymon pedal but i do have the re-201 and love it im sure this is a better version tech naturally progresses faster n faster until people purposefully sabotage the supply chain as well as decideing to cut chip production in half planned out well years in advance is what "they" are best at
This gentleman's playing is so on-the-bead he needs zero effects, just a pleasure to watch. Give him something like this and he's completely untouchable. He always sounds like himself, never like someone else unless it's on purpose. Mr. Thorn is a musician's musician in the very truest sense.
Best Demo Ever. Amazing. Pete you make watching a Demo Fun and give your audience so many ideas on how to use the Boss RE202. I would hope Boss has this Demo on their website😀.
Great, fun review - thank you Pete! I used a Space Echo in my band in the 70's - currently using TC Alter Ego in my studio but I think I REALLY DO NEED that Pre-Amp + Old Tape stuff and whatnot to revisit my youth . . . aaah, nostalgia :)
Pete, I did the same thing when I toggled the preamp on and off in the settings mode -- I thought to myself, "It's subtle but nice." Then I turned off the settings mode, and the preamp kicked-in 😅. Not sure if you ever got to hear the actual preamp. I just got my pedal and am on the fence about it, but it's a nice option to have. For all my breaking your balls I must say your reviews are a pleasure to watch, and I aspire to be 10% of the guitarist you are one day.
When it comes to RE-201 users, my mind first goes to Nick McCabe, of The Verve. That’s an integral characteristic of his sound. Brian Setzer is awesome too! Thanks for this great demo, Pete. I’ll have to check one of these out!
Jesus, this guy’s playing is always so amazing, and I’m just floored at how many songs he comes up with for these demos. I totally forgot why I was watching the video, to see the box do its thing, and I just have been concentrating on his playing! 😳🙌🏻
Loving the pedal and one of the most important things I learned from this video (at 4:06) is that if you are using the pedal in the effects loop of your guitar amp, like I am, switch the input to "line", NOT "guitar"! I had my input set on "guitar" and while it sounded good I found switching to "line" really smoothed the whole sound out, made the reverb in particular less harsh, and made everything easier to dial in. :)
it will depend on the amp and whether or not the loop is line level (like yours) or guitar level. So its definitely smart to try both settings on any effect that has the feature to choose between the two levels.
Pete, whenever I need something new on my pedalboard, or I am searching for something, I always look at your page, your videos. Saying you are superb on demonstrating products, is an understatement. There is no words! AWESOME!!! Just ordered one.... :D
Wow Pete. It sounds killer. Great demo. Could you do a demo later of the small one..the RE-2 ?? That would be great for those who don’t have enough room on their board or don’t need as many features
Having owned an actual unit, and the original pedal, and listening to this. I understand the context over the actual tape, and I love it. But this pedal is dope af.
Thanks for taking the time to make this. I've always been a boss fan and have been looking for a reverb pedal for live situations...my reverb tank vibrates like crazy.
Pete, every single time I'm about to buy a new piece of gear, I have to check youtube for demos and you ALWAYS have a video up for exactly what I am looking for lol. You helped me learn eruption back when I was a kid in like 2009 (your hair was MUCH longer back then lol) and are still helping out today. You Rock! God bless.
Having owned an RE-501 and heard the original 201 many many times, the first thing that strikes me is how much *cleaner* this sounds to original. None the less, the old tape models were/are a pain in the ass so this is really cool for Roland Corp.
Just love this pedal. Position one makes me sound like Clapton, position two sounds amazingly like Hendrix and there is even an internal switch which has Mark Knopfler/Wes Montgomery. I'm getting two.
Cat got your arm, Pete? 😂 Was waiting for your demo of the new Space Echo, knew it would not disappoint in your hands! Bought the smaller RE-2 though because of the much smaller footprint.
Hi Pete! Pedal and playing where just awesome as always. Thanks. I will use any guitar....so long as it's a telecaster., So it was great to see you use one in the video....what a beautiful guitar.
Thank for the video Pete. You touched on all of the things to give people a good idea what it does. Great pedal from BOSS. If I didn't have the real deal, I would be looking for one for sure.
I feel the same about delay. I didn't want to watch this but couldn't resist, this is the Swiss army knife of delays. Sweet vintage tones Going to look up the price now. Awesome job bro!!!
Finally got my RE-202 and thought I'd just share this here. My hope was that I could eliminate a reverb pedal by just using the lovely reverbs in this unit. Pete, you are correct that you can use the reverb by itself but only if you turn the echo volume down MANUALLY. My hope was that when I turn the delay off that the reverb could still be on regardless of echo volume or any other settings. I'm sure there is some sort of hack by using the presets or something but this is disappointing. If anyone has a solid workaround, let me know!
Use an Expressionpedal and program it only for the Delay level knob. Take a look in the manual it’s very easy to use a Ex Pedal with the 202. @Drew DeMaio
I'm not sure if it's best delay pedal ever, but it might be the best-looking delay ever. And it's super versatile and fully-featured. I'm a big fan of tape delay and the Space Echo is perhaps the pinnacle of multi-head delay technology. Great work by Boss. Thanks!
I have seen the earlier vids on this product and got curious about it's availability in Australia. Pre-Order only at the moment. But ironically, and yes I AM this OLD, the Pre-Order price is about the same as when the original RE201 was available! If the RE202 is as good as these demos show, I expect it to remain the same price - near full retail - so it makes sense to Pre-Order if funds allow.
Sounds mint Pete , another fantastic demo . My friends and I went to see you at the classic rock show in the uk early this year in Scunthorpe , it was brilliant , thanks again dude 👍
Pete is such a great player! He also shows you how to get the "Electric Avenue" motorcycle sound around the 7-minute mark. Not sure if he meant to do that, but it is super cool.
Crap. I'm very satisfied with my rig and not buying much in the pedals line anymore but I might have to make an exception for this one GREAT demo as usual Pete
Wow, great playing...I had an original Space Echo, what a pain in the arse to keep going, so glad I sold it...this is on my list defo. Got the first Boss Space Echo modelling pedal, this one is miles more authentic.
Awesome tune to demo this Pedal Pete. For those after the Setzer sound he used the RE301 which has a different op amp preamp vs 201. Apparently 201 just doesn’t get there for him. A Nocturne Dyno Brain is the pedal to buy for this preamp and might get there in front of the RE202.
Folks, he didn't have to give us his Phil Collins impression... but he did. He went the extra mile and did that for us. And you're goddamn right I hit that Like button immediately afterwards.
Pete demoing a new instant classic = like. That was definitely noted though. Master of the craft, this guy is.
Great demo Pete, this sounds incredible - I can't believe we got the re-2, re-202 and the dl4-ii in one week. That enclosure makes me think a ce-1 re-issue has to be on the cards. Hats off BOSS, you are nailing it.
Roland recovers the space echo from unobtainability, and Pete recovered his tele from the Titanic. Sick demo, you've outdone yourself yet again Pete!

Ooh they have a little brother ???
@@paulcowart3174 Yes indeed. The RE-2 is in their compact pedal form factor. Not as many features as the RE-202 but it still has plenty.
A while back, you turned me onto the Redrocks distortion pedal. That has become an integral part of my rig. Now, when I'm trying to decide between a Strymon Timeline and an RE 202, you seal the deal for the 202. Thanks again Pete!
At least the Timeline has stereo delays.
Amazing musicianship... 20 delay tricks in 30 seconds and still maintaining musicality
superb musicianship
I really appreciate the thoughtfulness that you put into these demo videos!!
This intro song is straight from True Blood then all of a sudden we take a ride on an 80’s soap opera… chillin on a cruise liner! Love it! Great pedal, great demo
Sounds really cool. I love the way they kept the color scheme & controls the same. The smaller size version is probably all I'll need for my purposes.
Boss did a stellar job on this release. It sounds very rich and full. I dig how it's not overly antiquated sounding. Great job Peter
Thanks Peter. You and Andy Martin are great at showing people what any pedal basically can do. Not easy to achieve.
Fantastic stuff Pete -- that pedal sounds F'ing incredible.
Pete has it. I mean he has the `it` in has it. Does that make sense? I mean like a pro`s pro. We love you out here buddy. lol
The application of this pedal to those riffs was top shelf!
As always Pete, a great demo on every level, and have to say, this pedal sounds fantastic, and Boss did an incredible job revamping it in 2020s fashion! Kudos to Boss and you! I'm with you about a desert island effect: delay without hesitation.
I always hit the like button on Pete videos even before the videos start
Another great video from Pete. And congrats to Boss for making a Strymon Volante!
that was my first thought as far as design wise sound wise ive never owned a strymon pedal but i do have the re-201 and love it im sure this is a better version tech naturally progresses faster n faster until people purposefully sabotage the supply chain as well as decideing to cut chip production in half planned out well years in advance is what "they" are best at
As a keyboardist, this is my only external effect pedal. Midi control from the Modwave KaossPad is nuts.
This gentleman's playing is so on-the-bead he needs zero effects, just a pleasure to watch. Give him something like this and he's completely untouchable. He always sounds like himself, never like someone else unless it's on purpose.
Mr. Thorn is a musician's musician in the very truest sense.
Fantastic demo,Pete. The musical portion of the demo was tasty abd extremely clever. Bravo Dude
Pete--you never cease to amaze me with your depth of knowledge about gear and how it can be used to create cool music.
Best Demo Ever. Amazing. Pete you make watching a Demo Fun and give your audience so many ideas on how to use the Boss RE202. I would hope Boss has this Demo on their website😀.
It was also a fave of Randy Rhoads Pete! Great vid as usual!
I’m getting me one. Too bad you didn’t share the setting for the slap sound. That was the best I’ve ever heard.
wow wow this is will be definitely our new toy (we're using the re-20 and it's sound sick) but this one is another level
Remarkable sounds! In the right hands, this thing is mind-blowing and Pete's got the hands.
Pete, I did the same thing when I toggled the preamp on and off in the settings mode -- I thought to myself, "It's subtle but nice." Then I turned off the settings mode, and the preamp kicked-in 😅. That pedal is insane. A must have for sure.
Def a pedal to look at for the board. Thanks Pete
Hi Pete - great playing as usual. Thanks for showing off the features of this!
When it comes to RE-201 users, my mind first goes to Nick McCabe, of The Verve. That’s an integral characteristic of his sound.
Brian Setzer is awesome too!
Thanks for this great demo, Pete. I’ll have to check one of these out!

@@PeteThorn Dūde, you’re a beast. I’m just a looping artist.. 😜
Suhr's picks its artists for sure!
That’s because this is Pete Thorne man. A legend.
@@caincolesr I know, right? I’ve been watching this guy for years online. I don’t know how he does it. Absolute genius….
It's the pedal on "I Ran So Far Away" by Flock of Seagulls.

Pete has anyone told you lately you're a genius. Man I want that pedal
Just a guitar nerd! 🙏
Very nice. I will be interested to see a comparison of this to the Volante and El Capistan, and that RE-2.
Wow Pete. It sounds killer. Great demo. Could you do a demo later of the small one..the RE-2 ??
That would be great for those who don’t have enough room on their board or don’t need as many features
Hey Pete, as a long time follower I have to say this may be the most beautiful thing I've heard you do!
Having owned an actual unit, and the original pedal, and listening to this. I understand the context over the actual tape, and I love it. But this pedal is dope af.
Thanks Pete! This is the first demo I heard. I saw it was coming out, but kinda forgot about it. Sold! You really showed the depth of this thing. 😎👍
I was set on the RE-2 but that switch between old, new tape and the saturation knob is too good
I’ve been waiting for this pedal for YEARS!! Love my re-150 and to have something similar in a pedal has been my dream for a long time
Thanks for taking the time to make this. I've always been a boss fan and have been looking for a reverb pedal for live situations...my reverb tank vibrates like crazy.
Best demo of this pedal i have seen yet pete. That song you played was awesome.
Love geeking out with you on guitar paddle stuff Pete , I think this is gonna be my next pedal. Great presentation as usual… Keep on rockin…

1000%
Well you could probably crank the saturation, which I didn’t really do in this video… And set the new old setting to old…
i was looking for this Demo and Pete nailed it like no one else here.
The pedal sounds amazing !! I also absolutely love that "Tele" guitar you used in the demo.
Whatever money you get for this video is not enough. Absolutely killer! Forgot about my day for 14:34
Just love this pedal. Position one makes me sound like Clapton, position two sounds amazingly like Hendrix and there is even an internal switch which has Mark Knopfler/Wes Montgomery. I'm getting two.

Absolutely amazing tape emulation - and such a well-presented overview and tour. 🌹 Thank you!

Nice pedal and superior demonstration!!
This is the year of delays...
Check for NUX NDD-7 Tape Echo
It's going to be the budget brother.
The Roland Space Echo was an important component of Gary Moore's sound.
Another great video Pete. I've been waiting patiently for this pedal and my pre-order is already in the queue.

Brian Setzer uses an RE301 Space Echo, but this is close enough for me!
Awesome. That Song ought to be in the radio
man! that was an awesome demo! I don't need it, but now I want it...... thanks Pete!
I regret being a year late to this demo. The playing made me forget about the pedal.
Super demo Pete, ty
Best pedal ever, Miss my oldie, must have..

I was so hoping for a Hyperspace pedal setting oh well, a great pedal and demo!
Great textures throughout-sounds great man✊🏼
